Working in Montreal for a couple of weeks and it's dinnertime. I usually will head into downtown to…read moreget dinner, but I was feeling lazy this evening so I did some Yelp'ing around what was near me. I found Twister Burger which was didn't have a large amount of ratings, but they had a big menu so I chose them! Here's how it went. Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right off a pretty wide street that doesn't seem like a main road is this gem. There's no private parking lot so you'll have to park on the street in the neighborhood, but I didn't have a hard time finding space. Once inside you're transported back to like... the 40s? 50s? Whenever the soda fountain era was with the black/white checkered walls, neon lights and the whole thing. Lol. It was cute. The restaurant is fairly small and that's okay! It makes for a more comfortable and cozy feel. I got my food to go so I didn't have to stay long. Service: The gentlemen behind the counter was very helpful and make sure I got everything that I needed. He also helped me since most of the menus are in French. Food: I started off with their Taco Salad, but as of now I don't see it listed on their menu anymore. Anyway, it's basically their now Southwest Salad which contains mixed greens, corn, red onion, avocado, fried tortillas and shredded cheese, served with chipotle ranch. But instead of being in a bowl, it's in a fluffy, crispy taco shell which was very flavorful and enjoyable. It worked well. The name of the place is called Twisted Burger so I had to try at least one of them. I decided on the Trio Diablo Burger which is 130g beef (1/3 lb), jalapeños, monterrey jack cheese, habanero salsa, grilled onion, chipotle mayonnaise and lettuce, and tomatoes. It kinda slid apart in transport, but I was able to put it back together at my hotel room and it was fine. Nothing super crazy or explosive to report. It was a decent burger and satisfied my cravings for sure. The beer-battered onion rings were okay too. Nothing special and I don't think I was expecting anything out of this world either. Most beer-battered onion rings taste the same, so it's good that it's a familiar flavor to recognize. Value: My taco salad was $14.95CAD, my burger was $10.95CAD and my onion rings were $4.95CAD. This is a GREAT DEAL on the amount of food I had for sure. Looking for a cheap date, something quick, nothing fancy, I dig this place for sure.

I sort of knew what to expect but this particular location looked to have been around for a while. They had old signs inside which to me had a very nostalgic feel to it. I love that kind of fast food diner kind of feel to a place. I reminds me of being young! Anyway I had ordered for take out since I was staying nearby so I had ordered the large poutine, smoked meat sandwich and onion rings to go. The onion rings were awesome! I got a nice bag of rings and they were only 2.20! The smoked sandwich was ok, not as good as Schwartz's but what is? It was made with a very good quantity of meat just like all Montreal smoked meat sandwiches should be. The poutine was huge! The curds were proper or at least the way I like them... they have that rubbery texture to them and they stayed steaming hot in their container. This food is what it is, fast food. They have a wide variety of items and combos including pogos (corn dogs), steamed hot dogs, burgers, club sandwiches, spaghetti and sauce etc. It's not a typical fast food joint but they have a lot of choices and I was pleased with what I had.

It is sort of like a Weinershnitzle meets French Canada over gravy. Yes, as in gravy and cheese over your Frites, as in the popular dish that all Quebecois love, Poutine. Here you get Poutine as a combo trio to your soda and burger, hot dog, double hot dog, etc. And not only Poutine au Quebec, but Poutine Italienne. Yup, meat sauce like on your spaghettio's, but on your fries, avec fromage dribbles. This place has the decor of a dive diner in a Saturday NIght Live Chicago diner Skit from 30 years ago with John Bulushi. (Cheeburger cheeburger, Pepsi, Pepsi). And true to form, they have Pepsi here, not that other cola brand. The two guys working in here at 9pm were from Pakistan. Very nice fellows, spoke good English. I didn't hear their French, but they taught me how to say thank you in Pakistani. I think. I had the Hamburger with Poutine and Pepsi. Eat that every day and you will take years off your life. S'il vous plait, do not Super Size Me.

My sister was trying the ramen dog and mozzarella/hot dog. I didn't enjoy the line up in the cold, my toes were super frozen. The service is average; they rush you to make your choice. After receiving the corn dogs; you hope to find a warm place to try them. We went inside the metro to eat them. They are delicious, but since it's deep fried, you feel the heaviness of it in your belly. I was happy to try them but the experience to get them and eating them somewhere warm was horrendous.

I went on their second day of being open and for the ramen hot dog and the Gamsung hotdog (mozzarella cheese deep fried with pieces of French fried potatoes on top). Both were delicious but my favourite was definitely the ramen, it was so crunchy. You order on the right hand side of the restaurant and then wait in the line on the left hand side to receive your food (pay attention to your number as they will call it out to let you in the restaurant to pick up). Once you pick up your order you have a choice of 8 sauces. My server put a bit too much so I say less is more when it comes to sauces. They have a menu on the side with their recommendations of sauce to put on which Kogo. You also don't want to overwhelm the Kogo with too much sauce because there's so much to taste already. I put spicy mayo, mayo, and honey mustard on both of my Kogos and it was too much. The sauces were good but it just got too much. If you want to put more than one sauce, ask the server to only put a little. My friend got the volcano with chill sauce and recommends that one. He also got the ramen hot dog with spicy mayo and he said it was a bad pairing, he thought the spicy mayo would've been good on another hot dog. I also got the pineapple juice and it was pretty good! A bit ordinary but good to pair with your meal. Prices are around 4.99-6.99 per Kogo so not cheap but they are loaded so it's worth it. Lines seem long but it goes by quickly.

Yes, Canada has many casual chains like the U.S. and, if you're a foodie, the full Canadian food experience is not complete without exploring them! With that said, the menu pretty much consist of sandwiches or entrees that include some form of rotisserie chicken, plain or with sauce. Oh, and, of course, they serve a fast food version of poutine. Like I said, OF COURSE. On our first trip to a St-Hubert Express, we ordered some rotisserie chicken to share and had 2 different sides - fries and rice. Interestingly, their chicken entrees come with 2 sandwich buns. Obviously, you can either eat the buns alone or make a makeshift rotisserie chicken sandwich by shredding the chicken off of the bone, but, who has time for that???? Wouldn't one just order the sandwich if they wanted this option? Nevetheless, you have options. As for what does make sense, the chicken comes with a side of gravy and good thing it does. The rotisserie chicken was a bit on the dry side so I dipped it in the gravy every chance I had. It's not the worst rotisserie chicken, but they could do better. The rice was on the hard side, as though it was uncooked. Not sure if it was meant to be like that. The fries weren't bad though and kind of reminded me of McD's. This location is located on a main road, but it does have a large parking lot. Also, it's seems to be located in a large shopping area where there is an A&W, Dollar Tree and multiple supermarkets. It's definitely convenient and many customers go for takeout, but the restaurant does have a decent number of dine-in customers during dinner time.

Bravo à cette équipe toujours souriante et qui s'empresse de nous servir! Endroit prore.read more

I'd never had the French Canadian heart-attack-on-a-plate, and was a little nervous as it just looks like it has A LOT going on. I sludged into La Banquise dead sober at 4:11am, as this is a legendary spot that is open 24 hours. I sat down in a bustling no frills atmosphere and remembered my deep appreciation for a 24-hour diner. You see people for who they really are this early in the morning. A couple in front of me was in a heated argument about what "being exclusive" really meant, while two separate groups of 4 to my right were feeling no pain and enjoying a poutine night cap. There I was, sipping on my black coffee mentally prepping myself for the 45 mile (72 km) day I had in front of me. The dichotomy of life. I asked the server what the most popular item was, and he said La Scooby. This monstrosity consisted of fresh cut fries, cheese, gravy, ground beef, bacon, onions, fried pickles, and caesar dressing garlic sauce. I got the small ($12.40 usd), but this thing was a TANK. It was bigger than my head and I have a HUGE head. The large must be a family style portion or somethin. Upon first bite, it was damn good. I completely see the poutine appeal. Is it an ideal meal dead sober at 4:11am? No, absolutely not, but this is an S-tier hangover food. Also, if there is ever a day when I need some extra calories, it's on a 100k step day. All the staff was so welcoming, and surprisingly chipper this early in the morning. SHOUTOUT TO LA BANQUISE! THANK YOU FOR FUELING THE JOURNEY! IG @johnny.novo Tiktok @jnov__ Substack @johnnynovo

Not accessible. I had a very hard time moving around the restaurant with my crutches, especially…read morewith the stairs. I took my niece from New York City here because La Banquise is supposed to be the "must try" poutine spot in Montreal. We had a great night overall: soccer game, drinks at Mellon Brasserie (none of us were drunk; my wife was 100% sober). Everything was fun and chill. But La Banquise completely ruined the end of that trip, and I'm not okay with letting this go. We paid for the food and service. But it doesn't matter if you pay $1 or $100: at the end of the day, we were customers, and we deserved to be treated with respect. We waited for our Uber outside. It was cold, and I'm on crutches, so my injuries hurt badly in the cold. After waiting outside for a long time with the Uber not showing up, we went back inside to wait near the door, in the corner, not blocking anyone. The staff at the door immediately came in and started rudely and aggressively kicking us out. He refused to speak English with me after I clearly said, "I don't speak French, so talk to me in English." He kept talking French and was rude to my wife, my niece, and me. He told the waitress in French that we were "blocking the way," which was 100% false. (My wife speaks French) We were just standing near the entrance, waiting for a few minutes, trying to get out of the cold. When I went to the cashier and explained, "This guy is kicking me out. I just paid for my meal. But it doesn't matter if you pay $1 or $100: you're still a customer, and you shouldn't be kicked out and treated like trash just because you're waiting for your Uber on crutches. I'm on crutches, it's cold, and my Uber isn't here yet," they called a waitress who also started telling us to leave instead of helping. She didn't try to find a solution; she just said, "No, no, leave, leave." This is not just bad service. This is disgusting, disrespectful treatment of a paying customer with a mobility issue. My niece, who had a blast all night, ended the trip saying, "What the f....? You bring me here and they treat us like this?" She now has a bad impression of Montreal because of this place. My niece is from New York City, and she's also posting her own review. That review will be seen by people in New York and by tourists looking for recommendations. If you treat tourists like this, you're not just ruining one night, you're ruining the image of the whole city. Montreal is supposed to be a welcoming city for tourists and people looking to have fun and be treated with respect. La Banquise failed that completely. The food was okay, but the experience was terrible because of how we were treated. This is unacceptable. You should be ashamed of how you handled this.
