So you think living minutes from Pismo, Avila, Shell beach and Morro Bay that we must have had the best fish and chips! Nope, it's Lompoc! That's right ladies and gents, this little gem right here is beyond delicious. Staff here is friendly and the ambiance is quite pleasant and welcoming. We initially came to this place in hopes of finding some authentic British fish and chips. However, we were left disappointed by the bland flavors. Family combo (2.5/5): The family combo we ordered had five pieces of fried fish, five pieces of fried chicken, and 21 pieces of popcorn shrimp, along with hush puppies and coleslaw. Both the fish and chicken lacked flavor without the condiments. The fries were also not very crispy. Clam chowder (5/5): The clam chowder, however, was filled with a good amount of clams. Service is counter service and the interior had a holiday pub vibe with all the Christmas decor. This was a fine meal in a pinch, but not sure if I would come back.

It's been at least 20 years since the last time I was in Lompoc. I was thrilled to see that Alfie's was still open. The restaurant changed for the better. The food stayed delicious. The fish was crispy and not oily. I got the 3-piece combo which was a lot with the fries. I will definitely come back the next time I'm in Lompoc.

Found the place through Yelp and so glad I did. I went with the two piece fish and chips. You get two 3 oz pieces of fried fish, fries, and hush puppies. They also put some of the fried batter that falls off the fish when frying. They had three different kinds of malt vinegar which was interesting. One was a little on the strong side, it said it was craft brewed. I went with the brand called Four Monks. The fries were crispy but the hush puppies were awesome.

Stopped by with my family to grab a late lunch. I didn't know what "hushpuppies" were, so I asked the guy. And he gave me not only a detailed description but 2 free samples of these "hushpuppies." We chatted a little bit, and I found he was the owner of the place. He said the restaurant was around since the 1960s, and he loved this town (Lompoc.) I ordered the combo bucket, which included fish, chips, chicken strips, hushpuppies, and coleslaw. And these were de-licious!!! Even my mom, who doesn't usually eat fried food, thoroughly enjoyed this bucket of fried mess. Too bad it's 5 hours away from my house. Otherwise, I'd probably come here at least twice a week! The inside of the restaurant was inviting and spacious, and it looks like a great place for a group hang out as well as family's gatherings.

Quaint small town fish & chips spot. They have wine & beer. Friendly service, but it seems like it's just 1 person manned. Although it didn't take too long for our food. You could tell that the fish was fried in fresh oil because the batter was super crispy, didn't have a weird aftertaste, and it was a beautiful golden brown. Parking is small. Bottles of condiments and table were a little greasy/sticky. Women's restroom was clean but stank. Not sure if that's a sewer piping issue like some places have. Clam chowder was good. $68 for party of 4.

This was a random find for me. I was in Lompoc to check up on a construction project. My stomach was rumbling but the only options in town were tacos, pizza or hamburgers and none of that perked my interest. I stumbled on Alfie's Fish and Chips. I ordered the two piece complete which comes with hush puppies and coleslaw as well. The fish was breaded and fried to perfection. The hush puppies had a nice crunch but not overdone. The employees were friendly and professional and the place is spotlessly clean. Alfie's was a great find. Will definitely eat here again!

I saw this place featured on the local news, so I had to try it out. I thought it was certainly fine, but definitely overrated. The service is counter style, so you order at the counter, find yourself a place to sit and and they let you know when order is ready. They may offer the most authentic English Fish and Chips, but I certainly have had much better elsewhere. The fried fish was very crispy, but not necessarily the tastiest. The fries were also very crispy, but seemed to have the texture of being previously frozen. I ordered the two pieces of fish and chips which goes for $12.79. It's served on a bed of deep fried shredded onions which I've not seen anywhere else. I didn't find this particularly appetizing and perhaps that's what makes it so authentic. This gives the basket the appearance of looking much fuller. Personally, I'd rather they offered more chips to fill the basket.

Last night I had one of the finest seafood casual dining experiences at Alfie's. I am on a week-long business trip for training and staying at a local Embassy Suites in Lompoc. After a long day of work, I was feeling some fish and chips calling my name and chose Alfie's for its proximity and easy-to-find location. From the street, the place has a curb appeal and looks and feels like a nice and fun place to eat. There was no second guessing myself after walking through the front door. The smell of delicious seafood enticed all my senses. The place is well-themed with beautiful décor inside and plenty of seating for dining couple, families, or large groups. The gentleman at the front counter made excellent, knowledgeable dinner suggestions to me based on my preferences he inquired to know before I made an order. I spent just over $50 (including a tip for the nice counter guy) and settled on a Clam Chowder with a Bread bowl, Cajun Catfish Combo with Shoestring fries, an order of Calamari and four Jumbo Shrimp Side entrées. I was offered containers to take ketchup, lemons and other items from the self-serve condiment counter while waiting for my order. When my order was ready the presentation was beautiful. The items were individually properly and neatly packaged in a large bag for take-out. The bag smelled so good and special that I strapped it in my front passenger seat as if it were a child. When I got to the hotel down the road, I unpacked the food on the table and dived in. The food was still hot (as if it were fresh out of the kitchen) and I enjoyed the best dinner ever. The clam chowder was full of flavor; creamy and chunky with just the right amount of crunch with the added oyster crackers. The bread bowl was warm inside with a crispy outer crust. (They even gave me the gluten-doughy-center core from the bread bowl, which I loved!) The Jumbo Shrimp was perfectly seasoned and crispy. The calamari was excellent. The catfish was perfect-- juicy with the perfect amount of herbs and spices and crunch. The meal was enough for two people, but I binged, and the post-meal coma made me feel like a king for the rest of the night. Before this week is over I am coming back for more. This restaurant is a model for what others should strive to become. Thank you!

This is supposed to be Coconut Shrimp. Very disappointed, have never had a bad experience until now.

Great place to stop by for lunch in Lompoc. The fish and chips were just right plus the hush puppies were a perfect combination of soft and crispy on the outside. The clam chowder was really good as well. And all the food is fried in peanut oil. All this plus friendly service makes this a great little local spot. read more

Well I haven't had their chips been a healthy fish and it is excellent really look greasy but it's very tasty so who cares about the grease but I would definitely stay away from their clam chowder and the pools bread bowls it is definitely not worth the price and it's just not good at all soup isn't hot bread bowls are Half Baked not good read more

Been coming to Alfie's Fish & Chips for years. Always good, sometimes they will have fried Twinkies. Their coleslaw is the only complaint I have, it's very dull and not good. The kids always enjoy the hushpuppies. Plenty of parking but the dining area is limited. read more

Used to be on Vandenberg AFB and could come quite often, now we're in Santa Maria but will find the time every once in a while to come back for some great food! LOVE the hushpuppes! Great food, good price, friendly staff. read more

My husband loves the fish and chips. Their family combo works out great for our family; we usually end up bringing some of it home, too. The coleslaw is sweet and actually has flavor rather than being the generic bland. Not too much seating so if you time it wrong you might be hard pressed to eat there but we haven't had a problem. Although there is outdoor seats (2-person tables) it can get quite cold what with the wind, fog, and coastal combinations. Overall, I really like coming to Alfie's. I just wish it was a bit better priced. read more

This place is amazing! I got the 2 piece fish and chips complete (2 large pieces of fish, chips, 2 hushpuppies and a 4 oz. coleslaw), a side of clam strips and 2 jumbo shrimp... I couldn't have been more impressed! The fish was flaky, fresh and mild and you could taste the freshness of the hushpuppies and coleslaw! Their clam strips are amazing as well as their jumbo shrimp. I tried all of these items because everything looked so good and I was NOT disappointed. The atmosphere is quaint and comfortable and the staff are extremely friendly. I have no complaints whatsoever towards this restaurant and I feel that if you are looking for a fish and chips meal that you will enjoy and dream about every night again for the next couple of weeks-- this is the place. I read the other reviews and I have to disagree with most of them. The food was perfect and the condiments on the tables made it easy for me to amp up my food as needed. Also, my fellow diner had the chicken strips and said they were amazing so if you don't like fish she would highly recommend them. If you complain about the price, you don't understand the fish and seafood market right now. Excellent, delicious fish and seafood are expensive now. You get what you pay for. If you are disappointed in the price of your meal-- get something cheaper or go to McDonald's and get a fillet of fish. At least at Alfie's you know you're getting Alaskan Cod and not a mixture of different fish. Overall, I had an AMAZING experience and I WILL DEFINITELY go back! read more

After driving around for 20 mins trying to decide where to eat, accidently stumbled upon this place. Was hesitant to try at first, but why not. Thankfully we did, the fish and chips combo was hot, crispy and fresh!! It came with hush puppies and coleslaw as sides. Both items were delicious. Also, tried the fried clams, very good but serving size was a bit small. Not a fancy place, but not a hole in the wall either. Order at counter and pick up your own order when its ready. read more

Having moved here from New England last year, I had yet to find a decent Fish n Chips out this way. Thank you, Alfie's!!!! It was delicious. LOVED it with some lemon and malt vinegar. Zero stars. Geez super bad food. Ordered two fish and chips two drinks and clam chowder and over $50.00, I don't mind paying that much if the food is excellent but this place is awful. The fish was dripping in oil and the orders came out super fast and super hot. This means that old food heated up in the microwave. Food had no flavor and the fries also dripping in oil. I could not eat it and I should have asked for a refund but decided to never return again. I even got a headache from the grease in the food. The place was empty and that should have been the warning. I can't believe this place is open. Only one employee working the cashier and also cooking. Another bad sign I should have walked out at that point but had already paid. Hundreds of better places including Taco Bell. The people with high rating are not being honest. Don't believe me -- try it and kiss your hard earned money goodbye! read more

This place used to be my absolute favorite. I don't know if it changed management or what, but I've been really disappointed as of late. The normal fish and chips order is good, along with the cole-slaw (which has a nice sweetness to it); but as I surveyed the fryer-area, I noticed a large amount of grease caked onto the vents, and what looked like mold on it! Ick. Maybe they've fixed it since the last time I've been there (few months ago), but that's rather offputting. read more

We love Alfies! The staff is always super sweet to our kiddos, and we really like the atmosphere. Yes, the prices might be more than the usual fast food, but this isn't fast food. This isn't a chain, Alfie's is owned by a wonderful local family, andthey buy quality ingredients that have also gone up in price. I can't understand the "bland" comment on the chips! I love the chips! :) Also, at the holidays they have PUMPKIN hush puppies PUMPKIN! You have, have, have, to try them if you love all things pumpkin like we do. Love Alfies!! read more

I LOVE Alfie's!! I've never had a bad experience with the food or the staff here. Everyone is always so friendly, and it's really cool to see the fish coming right out of the fryer! I've started going there with my Dad every Friday, as a Fish Friday kind of thing, and it's something I look forward to all week! Last week, we happened to get there in the middle of the dinner rush, but the staff worked really quickly and we waited in line only a matter of minutes before we placed our order. : ) read more

I'm going into this based on impression. I didn't eat, so I can't tell you that. Skip if you need to. I lived in England, and I would expect it to be a lot like it since they advertise that complete with telephone booth outside. They DO sell fried cod, which common. The fries are steak fries, not chips--like British chipped potatoes. Was looking for the experience, I guess; but I didn't stay. If you like fried stuff, you'll probably dig it. It looks good inside. People do seem to love it. read more

Had dinner here Saturday night. I ordered a small clam chowder and the Pop Fish combo meal (fish, shrimp and chips). Since I'm allergic to shrimp, they allowed me to replace the shrimp with clams. The clam chowder was good, but a little thin for my taste. But, I really enjoyed the rest of my meal. I would definitely go here again. read more

We always have the fish combo and the shrimp dinner. Extra hush puppies on the side. Not really fast food type of joint nor is it a fancy restaurant. Prices are not out of the ordinary. They don't have a 32oz cup, but the refills are free. Employees are always friendly. read more

It seems rather small, with one area for bar seating and small tables, plus a larger dining area "next door" to the bar, but I like the bar ambiance, so it may be challenging on busy tourist days. Luckily, I travel on non-busy days and have always had a good seat. The ambiance is great, with a typical, colorfully decorated pub feel with TVs offering an invitation to relax and have a pint - or two! The menu is varied, and I had planned for what I wanted, but when the server/bartender/boss offered the daily special as an option, I quickly jumped at the chance. The special was a queso dip with house-made chips, and I had to try it! Sadly, I also ordered my usual, the Cobb salad. Sadly, because after the "appetizer" arrived, I quickly realized the full consequences of the saying "your eyes are bigger than your stomach!" The dip and chips were plentiful in both, and for me would have made a great meal on their own. But I was committed and managed to finish the salad. On my previous visit, I had the mac 'n cheese and the Cobb salad, along with a Guinness dark! That was sooo tasty as well! The food at this visit was great, and the service was as well. Sam, who is the owner, bartender, server, and jack-of-all-trades, is always friendly, professional, and efficient, no matter how busy it is, and this visit was the only one outside the kitchen. If you're in the area, give them a try! And leave room for dessert - I have yet to do that, but you can learn from my mistakes!

The Reuben with onion rings was done right--classic, satisfying, and the onion rings were perfectly cooked with a great crisp. The bread on the sandwich had the perfect crisp as well, which really brought it all together. And the standout was the spicy melt burger. My friend ordered it medium rare, and it came out perfectly medium rare--juicy, flavorful, and cooked exactly as requested (which doesn't always happen, so that's worth noting). Everything was executed really well, and you can tell they take pride in the kitchen. Easy 5 stars. Would definitely come back.

The location is on a busy street so as you dine and you look out the window you get to see all the people driving and walking by. It's great if you love to people watch. Some of the plates coming out looked AMAZING. We had the Crab Dip, House Salad, Crab Louis Salad and Clam Chowder. Everything was delicious and satisfying. We even took home a slice of Key Lime Pie. Learned that one the hard way and won't be ordering it that way again. Stick to the straightforward fried preparations and you'll have a great meal.

I think it was an honest mistake. Also the food was good so I will be back.

For this town, I think Alfie's stands out. I know most would say "That doesn't say much" however, my husband, daughter of 3, and myself are all huge fans, and we just love our 2 piece complete. There's something incredibly satisfying about the "bland" cole slaw and "bland" fish, as well as the "bland" hush puppies. I believe that if you "KEEP IT SIMPLE" (as they have) you are enclined to be able to alter the taste to what you like. I like to think of them presenting you with a canvas that you may paint for yourself. The food is delicious, and there are so many choices (accouterments) that you can add. If you're thinking about it giving it a visit- You won't be disappointed. The family and staff are as nice and pleasant as can be. If you have a problem, they will fix it with what matters most. AN HONEST SMILE ON THEIR FACE! I believe they value their guests, and I think that's what I like best. read more

After loving Alfie's for a very long time, this is the first time I was disappointed. I had the fish and shrimp and it was very little fish and shrimp it was all fried oily batter, couldn't tell fish from shrimp and the portions of actual fish and shrimp where almost not in the fried batter. So disappointed! But, some how I knew that when they moved they would no longer be the true Alfie's. Why are you letting this happen? I am going to try one more time because I hate to see Alfie's close but it will if they keep up with this quality of food. If I wanted fried batter I could have stayed home and cooked my own and saved money. read more

Alfy's has been a standard of great fish and chips for decades. I've look for a great fish and chip Place throughout Southern California and Alfie still is the best. I wish they had more chains but I'm glad the one that is open is open. Reasonable and tasty who could ask for more. read more

We love our visits to alfies! It's a little pricy so we don't come often, but the food is delicious and the service is always wonderful. My favorite is the kabob and the popcorn shrimp. And my husband always loves the clam chowder. read more
