This is my second visit here, and I am remiss in not having reviewed my first visit - but, ""s for each visit! This place is non-descript yet just off the main park downtown, and an easy walk from most of the major hotels in town, or the central parking lot - plus lots of street parking as well. It seems rather small, with one area for bar seating and small tables, plus a larger dining area "next door" to the bar, but I like the bar ambiance, so it may be challenging on busy tourist days. Luckily, I travel on non-busy days and have always had a good seat. The ambiance is great, with a typical, colorfully decorated pub feel with TVs offering an invitation to relax and have a pint - or two! The menu is varied, and I had planned for what I wanted, but when the server/bartender/boss offered the daily special as an option, I quickly jumped at the chance. The special was a queso dip with house-made chips, and I had to try it! Sadly, I also ordered my usual, the Cobb salad. Sadly, because after the "appetizer" arrived, I quickly realized the full consequences of the saying "your eyes are bigger than your stomach!" The dip and chips were plentiful in both, and for me would have made a great meal on their own. But I was committed and managed to finish the salad. On my previous visit, I had the mac 'n cheese and the Cobb salad, along with a Guinness dark! That was sooo tasty as well! The food at this visit was great, and the service was as well. Sam, who is the owner, bartender, server, and jack-of-all-trades, is always friendly, professional, and efficient, no matter how busy it is, and this visit was the only one outside the kitchen. If you're in the area, give them a try! And leave room for dessert - I have yet to do that, but you can learn from my mistakes! read more

Fitzpatrick's Tavern absolutely delivered. We went all in on the food, and everything came out spot on. The spicy wings had great flavor--more on the spicy side than "hot," which honestly made them even better and more enjoyable. The Reuben with onion rings was done right--classic, satisfying, and the onion rings were perfectly cooked with a great crisp. The bread on the sandwich had the perfect crisp as well, which really brought it all together. And the standout was the spicy melt burger. My friend ordered it medium rare, and it came out perfectly medium rare--juicy, flavorful, and cooked exactly as requested (which doesn't always happen, so that's worth noting). Everything was executed really well, and you can tell they take pride in the kitchen. Easy 5 stars. Would definitely come back. read more

Ordered the Reuben at Fitzpatrick Tavern and immediately understood why people stop mid-conversation when the food arrives. Corned beef piled high, Swiss melted perfectly, sauerkraut doing its job without being dramatic, and rye bread toasted like it actually cares about you. This sandwich had no business being this good. CALAMARI NOOOOO!! I've never had calamari that looked so appetizing, but turned out to be complete burnt rubber. The poor server, Nick, was alone on July 3rd of a 4th of July weekend so service was a 2 star at best. Came here for dinner after exploring the bustling streets and lights around downtown Solvang. The wait was a little long but the waiter did his best to get through the line as fast as possible. We were asked if we would like the inside bar, table or outside seating. We chose to wait for an inside table. Once we were seated, we ordered the calamari, poutine fries, chicken pot pie, and the Dublin era burger with onion rings. The waiter asked if we'd like our apps out first and we said yes please. Food came out pretty fast so we were happy. Calamari- 6/10 There was a lot of it. It was thinking pieces with a lot of breading that made it really crispy. Just no flavor and the dipping sauce was a salsa. Although, the salsa was good, it just didn't pair well with the calamari. Poutine Fries- 7/10 The fries themselves were over salted and there were more than a few bites that were hard to eat. It comes with shredded cheese instead of cheese curd, which I was ok with. The gravy was really good but we could've used a lot more gravy. My husband enjoyed it overall though. Chicken Pot Pie- 8/10 The dish looks big but the serving is shallow so it's really not THAT much pot pie. The flavor of the gravy was really good but lacked salt and pepper. My husband added a good amount of both to his food and it made it much better. The crust was delicious and really pulled the whole meal together. My husband was very satisfied. Dubliner Burger- 8/10 I really enjoyed the taste of this burger. It was more cooked than I prefer but saw on my receipt that the waiter put medium well for the cook. He didn't ask me how I'd like it cooked or else I would've said medium. He was really busy and under a lot of stress though so I forgive him. I wish there was more of the garlic aioli, it would've helped the dryness from the meat. The bacon was delicious, but the real star of the burger was the bun. I don't know where they got it from but I wish I would've asked. I would've bought some to take home if I could've. My husband really liked the onion rings as well. They don't sell liquor here, mostly just beers in case you're looking for that, be warned. All in all, we enjoyed our meal. Yes, it could've been better and service could've been more attentive, but it was a busy Saturday night and the waiter was manning the line, tables, and running all the food on his own. He did it without an attitude and tried to the best of his abilities. I'd eat here again. read more

I waited at the door for 8 minutes waiting to be seated, Every employee looked at me before I was seated, when I was seated I started to look at the reviews and my heart dropped! Oh no, why did I wait ! I wanted to give them the chance to prove the reviews wrong. I was prepared when a young gentleman brought a menu , I was ready to order! I ordered a lemonade, fish and chips , There were 12 folks eating when I came in . Less than 10 minutes later my fish and chips came , the fries were almost too cold to eat and the fish was greasy but edible. I ordered an additional order or fries/chips , when they came they were very hot , I was happy . The inside was decorated like a pub should be , I finished my meal and asked where the restroom was, it's outside and shared with other businesses, it needed to be cleaned. This is a really good spot to grab a bite around 5:30pm during the holiday. You get front row view of the light show and some delicious food to accompany. We stumbled upon this spot bc the Wood Fire pizza shop was closed: Mac and Cheese: My 8y/o shared with her buddy and there was plenty to go around for the two. From their response, it was a thumbs up. Sheppard's Pie - I have to say this was delicious. It kind of reminded me of sloppy Joe covered with mashed potatoes. The mashed potato was creamy and melts in your mouth. I are or 2 days layered cold bc I didn't have the appropriate tools to heat up and the dish was still good. The flavor tasted the same as it did when it was hot. Chicken sandwich with salad - my daughter loved the avocado and tomato in my sandwich. The chicken was juicy and flavor was good. Not salty. Beef stew: thumbs up from my friend's daughter. She ate everything including the bread bowl. The wedges were huge and pretty good. Not too salty. Definitely give this place a try. We ordered a takeout tonight and the food was great, and prepared pretty quickly, considering it was Friday night. My fish and chips were hot and crispy, tasted really good. Chicken wings were delicious, too, and Parmesan truffle fries didn't disappoint either, they were definitely cut by hand and had just enough flavor not to overwhelm the potatoes. Solvang has a pretty slow night-life. We were looking for an evening cocktail, and Fitzpatrick's was still open. It looks like a pretty cool pub, and they had fish and chips on the menu, so we took a seat at the bar. The cocktails are not spirits-based. They are strictly beer and wine, which was a bit of a disappointment. My wife ordered a beer, and we split the fish and chips. The fish looked as it should have, with a good looking batter. The stick itself was very fragile. Picking up a piece had it disintegrate, so a fork was necessary. The fish lacked firmness, and was of the slightly mushy variety, which was a bit off-putting. With Solvang being limited during off-tourist hours, Fitzpatrick's is a good place to get a late bit and a cold brew. read more

I was looking for something open "late" on a Sunday...and after being in San Luis Obispo..fish and chips had been on the brain. I liked the signage and although I should have tried Danish food I opted for the ladder. It's definitely "pubby". I got there a little after 7:00 p.m. The waitress was nice and attentive enough. I kept it simple and ordered the plate of Fish and chips. There was two other tables and at 7:45 p.m someone else came in but were told that the restaurant was closing. This was the best fish and chips that i have had. My only pet peeve is the whole cleaning while customers are eating. Always takes away from the experience. It was costly at being $30 (with tip) for just the dish. I had a chuckle as I heard a lady upon leaving say the public bathrooms were so nasty. stopped by solvang as a mini pitstop and ate here before we left. amazing service! everyone was really friendly, quick and happy to answer any questions. the place was very nice, it was really clean so i really appreciate that. we observed the way the owner spoke to customers and it seems he really enjoys what he does, so he gave off the "cool uncle" vibes. we ordered the chicken pot pie, shepherd's pie and the poutine. for the chicken pot pie, i think that might've been the best thing i had during my visit here. it was creamy, well seasoned and very comforting. although i can't say my review for the shepherd's pie might be valid since it was my first time actually trying a shepherd's pie, but for my first time i was pleasantly surprised with the flavor. there was a smoky taste and if that's normal for a shepherd's pie, it was a nice addition. however, unfortunately for the poutine our table didn't really like it :( the gravy and onions were good, but some parts of our fries looked and tasted very burnt, majority of the fries were very dark, but that might've just been due to the gravy. i know people are complaining about the cheese but i actually liked the cheese since the cheese around the end of the plate was crispy so it was a nice change of texture. we still left very full and happy, i would most certainly come here again for the fantastic service and the chicken pot pie. the poutine, unfortunately not so much. read more

I was in Solvang and looked up the highest rated restaurant in town and this place popped up. Let's try it? We sat outside since it was cooler with a breeze, inside was warm and humid. I asked for the most popular plate and it was the Corned Beef. We were served quickly and the food looked delicious. Let me tell you it was very bland, not even salty which means it was boiled way too long, the meat was firm and needed to be cut with a knife. The potatoes were pre cooked and cold. The best thing on the plate was the Cabbage and Carrots. The entire time we ate dinner our soda cups and water stood empty, not one refill or even asked for one. I even placed the empty drink cups at the edge of the table as a hint for the waiter and nothing. I will not ask for a refill it should be done without asking. There is nothing fancy about this place, which oddly has its bar separated in an adjacent room from the main dining area, which also has a bar and several booths. Excellent. "805" enhanced beef batter over fresh cod....fat fries and generously large four pieces of fish The chicken pot pie matched the outline of. A Deflated NFL football. The crust was bakery quality and the chicken pieces were plentiful, mixed into a delicious creamy filling with potatoes, carrots and onions that were seasoned perfectly. The corned beef and cabbage was perfectly cooked-tender and sweet with potatoes, carrots, and onions. Highly recommend this spot for lunch or dinner. When I did not hide my disdain for his comments he just shrugged it off, breezed by one more time to comment on the weather, and then grabbed my plate (I wasn't even done with it) but at this point was very over this establishment. Popped by whiskey n rye for a side dish just to check it out before we headed home and the service was fantastic. Coming back next weekend but will not be visiting here. We've been here a few times. The food is usually good and no longer wait. Today is a crowded day in town, so it would be thought that all of the restaurants would be properly staffed because Solvang is popular during the holidays. Someone dropped the ball here. Two people on front of house staff. One bartending and the other serving. No bussers. The two guys are doing it all, which is leading to a hot mess. Large parties taking up most tables. The libe to get in is forever. The manager needs to re-evaluate how many staff are needed because this is nuts. My wife and I sat down and were seen by the bartender and two servers or bus boys. The bartender kept talking up the folks at the bar and the servers or bus boys were chatting with each other. I thought for a moment the bartender was going to greet us as she walked out from behind the bar right past us and then right by us again as she returned to the bar. It was at this point my wife and I decided to walk out and go to another establishment.
