It's been many years, so different people, but everyone I encountered, was so nice, friendly, helpful! I wish I had asked names, so that I could shout them out! One woman, light brown/blonde hair, seemed to be in training, and she was very helpful, the young man helping her, and who also helped my fiancé choose a lobster he has blonde hair, so very helpful! I had another wonderful experience returning to Giovanni's Fish Market. First and foremost, be prepared for a wait. It took me about 35 minutes to reach the front of the line to order, plus an additional 20 minutes for our food to arrive. However, remember that you are waiting for fresh, high-quality seafood. Last time I passed through, I missed out on their clam chowder, so I made sure to try it this time. It was outstanding, easily some of the best clam chowder I have had in a long time, second only to Splash Cafe in Pismo Beach. Since I ordered my chowder in a bowl, it came out almost right away, though my friend's order took a little longer. We secured great seating with a beautiful ocean view from the outdoor dining area, where we enjoyed watching the local seals. Overall, it was a fantastic visit with reasonable prices; my clam chowder ran about $16. I will definitely stop here again whenever I pass through. We came here because we wanted something fast as we were traveling through on the way to Cambria. This place was opposite of fast. We got here at 4:30 pm on a Sunday, it took us about 20 min to order, and then another 40 min to get the food. So about an hour to get the food. Not only that, but they messed up our order. I had wanted to get an extra order of fried green beans, but instead they substituted my French fries and so we didn't get French fries. And when I pointed it out, they didn't really fix it. I don't think they were very concerned. In terms of the food, the salmon rice bowl was excellent. The clam chowder was delicious. The fried green beans and grilled shrimp tacos were pretty good. The calamari with chips and the fish and chips were pretty greasy and the poki bowl wasn't very good. We didn't even realize there was a back seating area until we went to use the restrooms. The food is not worth the wait. Waited one hour in the hot sun in line to order. Waited another 20 minutes to pick up our order. Come to find out, folks can order online. UGH! The chowder lacked potatoes and clams. The fried combo-and chips was good, I really liked the fried scallops... so fresh and juicy. There's really not enough seating, people are hovering tables waiting for folks to finish up. We weren't too bothered, as we guilty of hovering as well. After our long long wait and hussling for a table and completing our meal... we strolled down road... guess what. There are other restaurants 1 min walk away. There is another ordering station on the opposite side of the building (away from the ocean), which may have a shorter line. We ordered the fish and chips, coconut shrimp, oysters, and clam chowder. The fish and chips were really good and the fries had a nice crispy coating. The coconut shrimp and oysters were also delicious. The clam chowder was just okay in my opinion, it was a little too thick for my taste. It's a casual, local seafood spot with a fast-food style setup: you order at the counter, grab your food when it's ready, and find your own seat. Debated about which place to have a meal at Morro Bay, since was just dropping by for few hours. There's so many restaurants so not easy to pick one for a meal. This place seemed to be the most iconic and being at the end/start of the strip, it definitely had the most folks, lol. The back/side of the building had another window for ordering take out. Seemed to be same/similar menu as the waterfront side, and pretty much no line, so maybe worth getting food there to avoid the long wait. Since it was my first time, figured might as well be the lemming and line up in the front like all the other tourists, lol. Great seafood market with a nice selection of dishes to choose from. I got a poke bowl 1/2 tuna 1/2 salmon. I got it aloha style which means they add avocado, eel sauce, spicy mayo, and green onion. It was as good as any place that just specializes in poke. My wife had the Combo and Chips that has fish, shrimp, calamari, and scallops. Everything was well prepared and definitely worth price. Our order taker was friendly and the guy calling out the pick up orders was very nice and very generous offering things like malted vinegar, hot sauce, and other condiments. We had lunch here after reading reviews on Yelp. There are 2 windows you can order from; one was right by the water and another around the back where there are seatings. Service was friendly. You'd order at the window and pick-up from another one. So glad they provided shades for outdoor seatings because the weather was really warm. this fish market is a great spot to visit for fish dishes and great views of Morro rock from the seating area. the snapper burrito was amazing, comparable to the burritos at Wahoo's chain. poke was mid; not too many toppings and the fish didn't have that strong salmon flavor. however, this is a fish market and not a poke house so I cut some slack. the staff were friendly and efficient. there is only outdoor self seating but doesn't require a purchase to sit and enjoy the nice view! would recommend for first timers visiting Morro Bay. read more

The fire cracker shrimp bowl was just as delicious!!!! Spicy, juicy shrimp and a whole lot of them!!! Line gets long, but it flows pretty smoothly. In the continued search for good clam chowder, we stopped here for one of the many meals we'll be having this weekend. The menu is extensive but I only had one thing in mind and thus I got the CLAM CHOWDER BOWL $6.99 and HALIBUT fish and chips $24.99 plus $2 garlic fries upgrade. Sorry to say this place is as many have said, a tourist trap. The halibut batter lacked seasoning it was practically tasteless. It's freshly fried however. Fries upgrade helped the fries only. The entire basket didn't taste much like anything and the tartar didn't help. The clam chowder was very salty. And I mean, very. It barely had clams in it and didn't taste rich and mostly had big cubes of potato. It was disappointing. The lines can get very long very fast. They have a good spot with greats views or Morro Rock. We stopped by Giovanni's for the first time during our trip to Morro Bay and were really glad we did. The fish & chips were the star of the meal, light, crispy, and full of flavor, with perfectly tender fish. The oysters were fresh and delicious without any sauce, the clam chowder was hearty and flavorful, and the crab quesadilla was loaded with crab in every bite. While in town for 4 days I decided to order the fried combo with chips along with a bread bowl of chowder and a cup of chowder. The gentleman taking the order was friendly and engaging. I ordered and sat on one of the outsides benches outside. This was a grab n go style. In the fried combo there was fish, scallop, shrimp and french fries. All the items were very fresh and nicely fried. Clam chowder had a lot of flavor and hearty, however the sourdough bread in came in...it was stale. I had the Aloha Salmon Poke bowl, I enjoyed it. My mom said the crab legs were okay. Garlic fries were delicious, but heavy and oily. Clam chowder bowl is also delicious. The service was quick and great. Outside there was self serve water with utensils. This is more of an outside eating experience by the dock. It was time to put Fresno in the rear view mirror and spend some time on the coast, what better place than Morro Bay. I was craving a fresh crab sandwich and looked up restaurants on Yelp, Giovanni's caught (wink) my attention, the 2+ hour drive went by quickly and parking was a snap. The line to order was light and ordering was painless, I left a good tip in the jar, received my beer and located a table next to the viewing window, the order was just minutes away and in no time I was ready to enjoy a seaside lunch. The garlic fries were my first try and I must say they lived up to their name (((WOW))) delicious and with a few sips of the beer my journey to seafood land began. As you see in the pictures the meal was laid out very nicely and perfectly cooked. I used a fork for the fries because the garlic mix was abundant and I was trying to keep the food off my fingers. The crab sandwich was fabulous and paired well with the garlic fries and a Modelo beer, I loved the crunch of the fried crab and the flavor of the sauce mingled with the roll, with the nutritional voyage on the way I was enjoying the bay with sailboats and chartered sea craft passing by, yes the scenery only added to the enjoyment, something never available inland. read more

Continuing our trek down to LA, we stopped in Morro Bay to catch some beautiful ocean views and some delicious seafood. Giovanni's came highly recommended online so we were eager to give them a try. We arrived an hour before closing, so the lines weren't long at all thankfully. Despite that, we chose to order from their side takeout window to ensure our food came quickly (we were hungry lol). We got the fish & chips (upgraded the fries to garlic fries -- highly recommend), clam chowder, and poke bites. While I'd skip the poke bites next time, the fish & (garlic) chips were so good. The fish was buttery and flaky, and their housemade tartar sauce was delicious. The garlic fries were some of the best I had, beating out Gilroy Garlic Fries at Giant's game for me (sorry!). Been awhile since we have had Giovanni's so we stopped and grabbed some chowder and fish. We'll it is definitely not to the quality that I remember. It started off fine with the front person taking our order and us having a seat to wait for the food (to go order). And that was the best part. It was a slow day with only 1 person in front of us and maybe 4 behind us but it still took 30 mins for our order and 3 people behind us got their orders first. We go to pick up our food and we are missing half our order. When my wife goes to ask about the other food, the lady at the window gives her attitude and says that is everything. Luckily for us we had our receipt and showed her that we did not have everything (4 items missing). The worker throws the rest of food together spilling food all over the containers and gives it to us and leaves the window. We leave and get home to see that none of the fish came with any starter sauce or lemon and the chowder bowls are not even filled up all the way. I take some responsibility for not double checking the foodnfor lemon or tarter sauce but I thought that they were standard items. The chowder was good, but the fish and fries were oily and tasted like the frying oil had not been changed for awhile. I use to really enjoy Giovannis but I think we are gonna look for a different option going forward. read more

One of the best views in the bay. The day we went the sub was out and the temperature was perfect. The crabs out front are a nice touch. The shell / wings you can take a photo of is a nice touch. The fish they used for the poke was rich and fatty, best poke I've had outside of Oahu! And you can eat it all outside, looking out at the ocean, in the shade with a nice breeze.
