--- I just wanted to express my frustration about PacSun locking their doors an hour early last night. It's really rude to close up shop before the posted hours without any notice. If they needed to close early, there should have been a sign on the door or at least an update on their website to inform customers. It's really inconvenient and disappointing to show up expecting to shop and find the doors locked. Especially considering me and all my friends traveled a decent amount to even get here. Do NOT BUY Algonquin Commons Gift Cards. They charge a fee for every month that you don't use the card. Essentially almost $30 a year - so the gift card I received as a present is now worthless. Algonquin Commons Guest Services says they can't do anything to help and neither can the card issue. Yes you can - Algonquin Commons Management needs to find another Vendor to offer a card that doesn't charge these ridiculous fees. read more

Just wanted to do a shot out to the fantastic staff (Paulette, Kristy and Julie). I came in with a plethora of online purchased clothing items to return on Saturday 11/7/20 (I have one of those body types, that makes buying online difficult). Julie didn't look at me like oh another return. She smiled and not only returned the items, but helped to repurchase two items online in different sizes at a savings. Since the dressing rooms were open, I was able to try on some clothes and make a purchase. Oh, Algonquin Commons, I want to rate you so much higher, but I can't right now, because if you look at the number of open stores vs empty stores, the ratio is sad. For those who aren't familiar, Algonquin Commons is an outdoor mall in Algonquin. It's not like Old Orchard (reviewed here on Yelp), where there are wings and it's enclosed within itself (if that makes sense), but more like a high end strip mall in design. I drive up and down Randall Rd all the time and frequently run errands to places within the mall. It's sad to see that a good chunk of one end is basically comprised of empty stores. Algonquin Commons just can't get anyone to fill the spaces and with stores closing at an alarming rate, I'm worried about this mall. Currently, Algonquin Commons houses stores like Half Price Books, Hallmark, Aeropostale, Claire's, DSW, Francesca's, White/Black, Nordstrom Rack, PacSun, Torrid and Pottery Barn, to name a few. Even with the empty storefronts, this is a good place to go if you're looking for a new outfit or need a cheap pair of shoes from DSW (a favorite store of mine) or are looking for a deal on books/movies from Half Price Books (another favorite store)! Trader Joe's, located at the end of the mall, is really great if you're looking for special foods and brands. (I buy their chocolate chunks for cookies I make-- so good!) There's also an Ulta, which is good to have close by in case of a make up emergency! Bonefish Grill and Dukes Ale House are both good choices for a day/night out. Biaggi's is, too, though it's not my favorite place to eat (reviewed here on Yelp). Parking is ample. It can get crowded on weekends and evenings, but during the weekdays (before 3:30 or so) or early on weekends, it's not too hard to find a good spot in the lot. Occasionally, the mall hosts events like car shows and movie nights. At the time of this writing, they have Flags of Honor standing tall around the mall in honor of those who fought for our freedom and didn't make it back home. They keep a pretty active Facebook page, so be sure to like that if you're interested in their events! Overall, this isn't a bad mall. It has decent stores, a good parking lot and some tasty food options. What lets it down is that so many of the stores are empty. I hope they find a way to fill them soon. read more

The Algonquin Commons may be the best thing to happen to Algonquin they have everything and it is so close and convenient!

I would give them ZERO stars if I could. We received a $50 gift card to Algonquin Commons as a gift. We did not run out and use it - we were there yesterday and when we tried to use it we were told it had no funds. I said that is impossible we have never used it. The lady next to me says they charge $2.50 a month after a year of inactivity - I said what? I called the number on the back and was told the same thing and the service rep clearly deals with this all day because her answer was if I could I would, it is legal and in the fine print. So, it is legal therefore it is ethical? We went right over to the customer service office, BUT there is 1 person who works there and they "would be back in a hour". At this point I am furious. Someone gave you $50 CASH and because "it is legal" you take a service fee for what? Inactivity on the card? I told the service rep. on the phone I would tell everyone I knew their policy and stance of "it is legal" and in the fine print. On my way to American Eagle, I told at least 5 patrons of the Commons, who looked at me as if I was a nutcase. I told the American Eagle gentleman, who got the brunt of my frustration, I told the hostess and waitresses at Olive Garden VERY loudly about it, the cashier at Petco and Kohl's all within 2 hours of the "it is legal" and in the FINE print stance. If you're going to hide behind it is legal then do it PROUDLY on your gift card holder in Helvetica BOLD or BLACK and on the front of the card. Perhaps USE or LOSE. I will continue to tell everyone buyer beware of an Algonquin Commons USE or LOSE Gift Card sales program. It is legal and in the fine print. Have a nice day! read more

I feel like I'm "stuck" with the commons. If it weren't for Trader Joe's or Victoria's Secret, I'd be going else where. This has to be the most f'ed up parking lot around. I feel like a mouse in a maze trying to get out of this place. Don't even bother going there on a Saturday afternoon, its a mad house but if you can get down Randall Road, I guess you deserve to go there. Stores seem to come and go here so double check to make sure your favorite establishment is still in business before you go. read more

Algonquin Commons is a ubiquitous strip mall on steroids. Right on Randall road, positioned for maximum traffic exposure, it contains LOTS of stores...generally tending towards the upscale end of things, such as Abercrombie, Coldwater Creek, and Biaggi's for food, although there are many restaurants there. I have a few issues with this mall. One...high sales tax compared with surrounding areas. I believe it's 8.5%, while most of McHenry county is 7.5%. This DOES make a difference. Two...the A-C gift cards....avoid them at all costs. As they are used for multiple businesses, they can basically make their own rules, and steal your money after a set period of time. Just get a gift card from the individual store, which does not expire. Three...the flow of traffic through the various parking lots is terrible. There are lots that you seemingly can't get out of, unless you go back the way you came in. There are ravines that cannot be crossed, and tons of stop signs along the shop. This is understandable, but there seems a fundamentally flawed design in the flow- you're positioned along a major 50-mph road, but you can't easily get to the shop you want. read more

The office of customer service is rude and thieves. Make sure you never buy a giftcard there. We had one that said expires in 2021 and went to use it and they took $75 off of a $100 giftcard to keep for themselves. Went in to the office and the lady working gave attitude and said oh its a bank issue so call the bank we get them through. Of course a bank cant do anything because the money goes to the Algonquin Commons. read more

Algonquin Commons have announced Nordstrom Rack will be opening in the Fall of 2016 as well as Lane Bryant. They have Announced Phase 2 of the rehabilitation & asphalt project. They will be resurfacing the parking lots by Fuddruckers and On the border. read more

I'm surprised the Algonquin Commons gets so many bad reviews! Is there traffic? Yes. Is the parking lot crazy? Yes. Is this any different than any other shopping plaza within 40 miles of Chicago? No. It just is what it is. I was surprised with how many stores and restaurants this area has! All of my favorites are here - Maurices, DSW, Charming Charlie, Charlotte Russe, Old Navy, etc. The stores are a little spread out - either the same size or a little bigger than the Arboretum. Everything is in walking distance on a nice day. Going in the morning is best - traffic, parking, and the crowds are not as bad. Everything pretty much opens around 10AM. read more

Comment is directed at management and the pr department along with a few of the shops. The commons is known to publicly advertise family friendly events such as today's "Trick of Treating" where they welcome families there while they host events to bring business that direction. Great public relations concept IN THEORY. I have watched over the years as the businesses went from almost all being involved and happily welcoming potential (or existing) customers to this years at least 25% or more stores hanging signs on their doors excluding themselves from the event. Listening to others there and after the event it was widely agreed upon that this year was not worth the trip out there. Not many events in the center staging area as the past years. More disappointing are the stores who are more than happy to be part of the advertising portion affiliated with "The Commons" simply refuse to stand outside (or even inside) to smile and hand out a $.01 sticker or even a coupon welcoming shoppers back. Seriously? I would be fine paying $5-$10 per kid for this event if that meant they would be part of upping the community morale along with the events image. This is about families coming together and watching the children having fun, not stores closing doors with "no candy" signs! Here's what EARNED "The Commons" a 1-star (would be zero if an option) when I voiced my concern AS A CUSTOMER on their Facebook page THEY DELETED IT! When I pointed out J. Jill who advertised 30% off this weekend and had a "NO CANDY" sign on the door should of had enough customer PR courtesy to SMILE and hand out a coupon at the door vs shutting it off to the children IT WAS DELETED BY THE COMMONS FB PAGE! I went there today with my sister and I realized that I had forgotten my 10 dollars off of a thirty dollar purchase. The sales associate Kaitlyn that helped me was super nice. When I told her I forgotten the coupon, she said she "didn't want me driving all they way back home to get it" and gave me the ten dollars off anyways. Nikki helped me as well and they were both so helpful and so friendly towards us. The staff is always there for any questions you may have. This Victoria's Secret is definitely worth going too. Maybe tiny and doesn't have a plethora of clothing to choose from but the staff certainly makes up for it! read more
