First time we ate here was last July and we were so impressed with the food and service - so much time had passed before we realized we hadn't been back! We decided to come here for dinner last night and take my siblings to try as they have never had Afghan food and were met with the best standard that I'm sure they will compare every other place to moving forward. We craved it again today and went back for more after church lol. This review is long overdue and Alibaba Kabob House will 100% be a place we will frequent to. Ali provided great service both times he has helped and Minna has always met us with kindness when checking to make sure all is good. Her food is made with so much love and you can taste it in every bite - honestly the best Afghan food I've had. So flavorful and meats are cooked so perfectly - chicken made juicy, steak super tender, and we love that we get so stuffed but the food tastes so clean we never have felt heavy or disgusting after. The Mantu is just *chefs kiss* SOO GOOD. I want to go back and try other things on their menu. This spot is truly a gem and as much as I want to be sure they continue to get more business, selfishly I want this to be a secret gem that only us locals know about lol. Thank you for bringing amazing food and service to Pittsburg!

The food here is absolutely scrumptious! I know this business has been around for some time, but I finally got around to dining in this past weekend and thoroughly enjoyed my experience! The owner is very kind -- and the service is wonderful. The ambiance is cozy, and it's a great space for family dinners or a simple meal for one depending on your goal. I cannot wait to return! Truly the best chicken kebab in the far east bay!

Came here for dinner on a weekday and really liked the food here. We got their chicken kabob and chicken korma plates and both were delicious. They have a nice indoor seating and ambiance, great for gatherings. There's parking available in the lot next door and the staff is very friendly and attentive. Will be back to try more of their food.

I revisited Alibaba and I did enjoy it just as much the second time. This time I tried the chicken korma. It was whole pieces of chicken, dark meat, bone in, covered in sauce. It was served with rice. It was good. I'll be back to try more of the menu.

We drove to the restaurant because we couldn't reach them over the phone for takeout. Tye staff was very friendly and helpful, explained all the dishes and what was in them- Worth the wait, we ordered beef tikka kebab, shish kebab, bolani, samosa, extra nan and mantu. Everything was so good and great sized portions. We were so hungry only got one photo. We will definitely be back to taste more of this amazing food.

Mantu was great! They all got to it before I could get a picture!

We finally were able to try this place! We did takeout and my pictures really don't do it justice. Overall, the food is very good I would say 4.5 in taste. Mantu was excellent and their dish is now one of my favorites I have had at any Afghanistan restaurant! 5 stars! Very soft and tender inside and just melts in your mouth. Dolmas- grape leaves filled with rice ( Idk what else). This particular one was a little hard and dry inside. It was ok- I like it to be moist with moist soft rice not dry. 3 stars here- still decent, but could improve. Chapli kabob- very good and moist and tender. Many times these are dry to overcooking bc thin. This was very good and one of the better kabobs anywhere and a bit more thicker than the usual thin chapli kabobs I have had. More like a juicy hamburger patty with good spices. I liked it! 4.5 stars. It came with seasoned rice as opposed to white rice which they also offer. I don't know what exactly is the seasoning( sumac?) that makes it brown but it was so good! The rice was moist and tender. So get the seasoned rice since you can get white rice anytime, so get a better tasting rice with rich flavor( like lamb or beef broth maybe used?). It also came with a square of Afghani bread. My daughter wanted chicken kebobs. Solid and good. Only thing was I think it only had 6 chunks( is that considered 2 skewers worth?). I wish it came with like 2 more chunks! 4 stars in taste for this- good but a bit bland as I would use more spices and sprinkle more sumac on top. I can't wait to try this place again and expand my selections! This is a solid and tasty place and I want this to be a successful restaurant in the area! We need to continue to support our local good restaurants out here, so giving it an overall 5 stars! Very friendly staff and clean interior as well. Takeout held up well.

Hidden Gem in Pittsburgh - Absolutely Delicious! I came to Alibaba Kabob House on a quiet Tuesday afternoon, dining solo, and to my surprise I was the only customer here the entire time. Honestly, I have no idea why, because this place is AMAZING. I ordered the beef tikka kabob and the chicken korma plate and... bro... DELECTABLE. The first bites instantly took me back to the very first time I ever had these dishes. I actually let out a little giggle of joy -- the flavors were that good. You can taste the love and care in every bite, and that's not something you find everywhere. The beef was tender and flavorful, the chicken was rich and comforting, and the spices were perfectly balanced. Please don't sleep on this spot and try something new

Hummus, 2 skewer combo: Chicken & shish kabob, 2 skewer combo: Chicken & beef kabob.
    Melissa G.

EVERYTHING WAS GREAT! I started with the Hummus and Mantu as appetizers -- both were bursting with flavor, but the Mantu was so good it's going to be a must-order for me every time. For my main, I had the 2-skewer combo with chicken and shish kabob. Both meats were juicy, tender, and perfectly seasoned. Just when I thought this place couldn't get any better, our server surprised us with a sample of another dish that was just as delicious. The ambiance is unique -- stepping inside feels like a little blast from the past -- and the whole place is spotless. Highly recommend!

I got a suggestion email from Yelp & it had this restaurant listed, so I checked out the menu & my husband & I went the same day! I'm not sure what restaurant was here before, but the decor kind of reminded us of an older Italian restaurant. There's a nice bar area, but no liquor, so I'm not sure if they're trying to get their license still. It's still their grand opening, so I'm sure there's a whole lot they're working on. But despite that, their service & food was delicious! I ordered some green tea while we waited for our order of bolani, & it had different herbs & spices in it that made it even more delicious. We were also given complimentary side salads, along with some hummus & warm pita bread. The house made mint yogurt dip was addicting, & we put it on everything -- not just the bolani it came with! For our main course, we both ordered the vegetarian kebabs, which came with basmati rice and afghan naan. The mushrooms, zucchini, onions, bell peppers, & tomatoes had lots of seasoning & were absolutely tasty! The staff was very kind & attentive, checking in regularly, & of course giving us lots of complimentary dishes. Despite everything we ate, the bill was surprisingly cheap & we definitely plan on coming back soon!

I ordered Shami kebab through DoorDash pick up and went to pick it up myself. When I open my order at home, it's NOT the kebab and I don't even know what I'm eating. We were the only customers and they still managed to mess this up. Very frustrating and disappointing.

Food and service were great. Had an old homey type of feel to the place. Walked in and felt welcomed by the staff. Ali was our server and was personable and helpful guiding us through the menu as first timers. Tried as much as we could stomach and really liked it all. From the lamb and beef kababs to pulao(my personal favorite) everything was seasoned incredibly well and not overwhelming at all. Rice was fluffy and cooked to perfection. Meats were seasoned and charred from the grill and super tender! The chef(Ali's mother) came out to greet us and check on us a couple times bringing out extra chutney and yogurt. Will definitely be visiting again and trying a couple more things. They were out of the dough for the Bolani but will definitely be trying that next time.

Combo kabob plate. Some meat did not last long enough for the photo to be taken.

Great first time experience. I ordered the Doogh drink, because I was curious. She warned me it was a yogurt drink, and loved it. Order it if you too love salted yogurt with cucumbers served with ice. I also ordered the Mantu dish. This has got to be the best appetizer. It's perfect. It has beef inside, and topped with this yummy red sauce. I meant to save some for later, but I couldn't. I also ordered the 2 combo kabob skewer (Pick any two kabobs). I ordered the chicken and the lamb. It must have been my lucky day because It was served with two kinds of rice (see my photo). This dish also came with two garlic chutneys, so delish I drenched my lamb and chicken in it. The meats themselves were already seasoned, so if you prefer less garlic don't use the sauces. Thank you.

I went back to introduce five different friends to the Afghan cuisine…read more The gracious Yasmeen had a table organized and reserved for us. We ordered one potato bolanis for appetizer with beers and five orders of kabob. There were no kabob leftovers! Everything was freshly cooked and delicious. The kitchen was kind enough to serve the food family style and there was plenty of spare naan and rice, but the delicious kabobs were all gone. Folks really liked the lamb, but my favorite is still the mildly spicy chapli kabobs! I took a bolani home. It is perfectly crispy after a few minutes in the toaster oven. It is a smallish restaurant but Yasmeen manages the front end well with a helper. Highly recommended!

Not a simple order by any stretch. Getting the owner (?) on the phone to place the order took some persistence, but once we connected, she was fantastic. She helped us figure out quantities, steered us toward the right dishes for the vegetarians and the kids, and was upfront about what contained nuts. She even threw in extras (salad and dessert) to complete the meal. I felt like she treated us like family. Pricing was very reasonable, everything arrived on time -- delivered by her uncle, no less -- and there was so much food that every guest went home with a takeout container -- the true mark of a successful spread. My husband was considerably less thrilled that I didn't save any of the meat dishes for home (he still laments it every time we talk about this awesome catering experience to others). For dine-in, our favorites are the lamb kebob, the Qabili, and the chicken kebob. We'll keep coming back.

I'm not an authority on Afghan food so this is rated as an outsider…read more Overall the food can be summarized as: lightly seasoned, enjoy the simple flavors of each component, and Must use the sauces to complete the dish. I personally think everything needed some salt, but maybe it's meant to be this way. Highlight is most definitely the green sauce (yogurt and chili, not spicy), baklava (sweet sticky on the bottom and flaky crisp on top, not overly sweet), yogurt mint drink (dough). Shami beef and chicken kebab were juicy and not dry. Through a bit of miscommunication.. I was given the yogurt drink instead of the normal side of yogurt cucumber sauce for the meat, and was warned by Ali that some people don't like it since it's a yogurt drink with salt, but honestly it was great and was essentially a yogurt mint sauce I expect from other Mediterranean/Middle Eastern type places but more watery. So admittedly I just took sips of this while taking bites of the kebab and rice and it was pretty much the flavors I was looking for, but an extra step. Beef Mantu was another source of confusion since there are regular and homemade versions (I didn't realize). They made me the homemade version without confirming with me on the phone; no problem. It was filled with lightly seasoned beef and topped with interesting spices. Overall not bad not great, definitely needs sauce / salt. Too light in my opinion. And for $25 I wouldn't get again not worth it. The customer service from Ali was great. Knowing this was my first time he explained everything, offered to charge me less due to the miscommunications (I declined), and gave complimentary side of sauce and baklava as a nice gesture. Good food. I know how to order next time. Extra green sauce or yogurt drink all over.

Service was pleasant, and we received enough attention throughout the meal course. Great, open seating with the view on the Monument Boulevard, that was bright and comfortable. The outstanding Afghani food, and even better the desserts with saffron tea made this experience complete throughout. Would highly recommend Narunj Palow with thinly sliced dates. Turned out to be a little bit pricier than I thought it would be for a lunch, however, it really did worth it.
