I paid $15.34 for a grilled chicken salad, when I got back to work and opened the small portion of old cheap ice burg lettuce and few pieces of old saturated gross fried chicken soggy and disgusting, terrible flavor! I get the economy is rough right now but this is not okay! the old generic ranch dressing was also old and gross as well ! Very clean. I liked it. 4 stars. Service-adequate, awkward. I asked for gravy on side....but they put it on biscuit. They were not bad. 3 stars Food- Had a chicken fried steak, eggs over medium, hash browns and a biscuit. Gravy was basic, steak was bloody red and chewy, but tasty. Eggs and taters were good. Been going for about 18 years. Its my favorite place. Get the corned beef hash - its amazing!

This place is no frills and old school: solid food, good prices, and friendly service. Hubby got the early bird with 2 eggs, potatos and toasts. I got the hungry baby with eggs, potatoes, bacons, sausages, and 2 biscuits and gravy. We washed it down with hot coffee. Yummy. Service was friendly and super efficient. Before I leave reviews, I read other folks reviews to see if maybe I missed something during my visit(s). I went to leave a review on this place, read a review that bugged me so I had to go back to eat there to see if the negative reviewer was right. I didn't see the issues I read about. Alice's Restaurant is a little hole in the wall, greasy spoon type place. Started in late 1970's by 3 folks who later sold it. About 10/12 booths/tables and a small counter you can sit at. Food is good and tasty, place always looks relatively clean. Prices are average for a breakfast place. Parking in the front and side of the building. Only thing, Sometimes the service is slow.... Even when they aren't busy, but they eventually come around. We really like Samm... fast, efficient, makes sure our order is right, smiles, and seems to enjoy her job. While this is a pleasant little diner, which my husband and a friends do enjoy going to, the fact that we never know from one weekend to the next if they are going to be open is very frustrating. We have driven there numerous times over the last months, the last one being this past Sunday, to just find them randomly closed. I understand being closed on a holiday, but if a holiday falls on a Monday, they will close the whole weekend. And this past weekend there was no holiday, there was also nothing posted as to why they were closed, they were just closed. You shouldn't have to always call a restaurant to make sure they are open before you go over, but here we are. read more

The server was very sweet and the food was basic (frankly it was bland AF) but it was a diner that was open early and near my house. It has unique decor that is a little strange but I get down with strange. I like the painting of Alice on the wall and the cute story on the menu about the drama she had with Coca Cola. Really though the food was super bland. The salsa was bad. In Tucson, Arizona. It was affordable, though, which is hard to find these days. I would have given it three stars but my girlfriend just reminded me that they had a Trump sticker in the kitchen that I caught a glimpse of when I went to the bathroom. Instant downgrade. Trump sticker aside, the food is deserving of only two stars. Highly unlikely that I will return but I have a soft spot for diners so I hope Alice does well despite her apparent distaste for human rights. read more

I found a hair in my omelet on the first bite and inside the eggs. I asked for a new one. I had to wait till other tables received their food and my friend was done eating. When I received the omelet, it had very little filling. nothing inside just on the edges. The cook (obviously not a chef) was mad and let me know. Will never go back or recommend this place. I've wanted to try Alice's Restaurant for years and finally had the opportunity on a recent Saturday morning. I just love a down home, hole in the wall diner and this place qualifies as such. There is Coca Cola memorabilia EVERYWHERE and the story of it all is on the menu. Quite a unique and fun story. The place was moderately busy, probably half full. Ordered my favorite breakfast. Corned beef hash and eggs. I asked for the hash to be crispy and the cook prepared it perfectly. Eggs cooked to a perfect over easy. The home fries I ordered were OK, just not very seasoned but nothing that a little S&P and Tabasco won't take care of. Not sure if it was a mistake or it's just their way but my sourdough toast was unbuttered. When it got to my table it was hard and dry and barely warm. The butter I was served separately was hard as a rock so there was no spreading it on the toast. My husband had the chicken fried steak & eggs, hash browns along with a side of biscuits and gravy. Oh and a side of bacon. Hash browns were exactly as requested - crispy. Biscuit and gravy were decent but the bacon...the bacon tasted and looked like bacon you might pick up in the refrigerated section of the 99 cent only store. Super thin, not much flavor. My husband LOVES bacon and typically saves one piece of bacon for the last thing to put in his mouth at any breakfast restaurant. He ate ONE piece of the bacon and left the rest on his plate. In my experience in all my years, chicken fried steak is typically a pounded out, tenderized piece of beef or cube steak. This one was actually a steak...a regular steak - battered and fried. Very nice try to do something different however it was tough and my guy only ate half. I'm happy that I can now take Alice's off my list of places to try. I just wish I liked it more cuz I was really looking forward to having a new neighborhood breakfast joint for the weekends. read more

The food and service is okay, but wait staff insisted I either let them hold the coffee I brought from home or return it to my car. I don't appreciate being treated as a child or a criminal; I was not sneaking in contraband nor was I trying to cheat them of a sale. Worst Experience Ever... My father took me here once back in 2006, we had lunch. Nothing special but cool little hole in the wall joint. In 2007 I brought my wife there for brunch and again good experience. My wife and I decided to bring our friends to this joint in 2013 for breakfast. We hyped this place up to them. It wasn't busy at all and we were seated quickly at the tables in the back by the kitchen. We all take turns ordering and I got the breakfast sampler that came with pancakes. I asked if I could get blueberries in the pancakes and i was told "sure". After 45 mins of waiting our food comes out and it looks good, however, my pancakes are missing blueberries and the waitress brings out a short stack of pancakes as well. My meal came with 2 already and now I have 5 pancakes in front of me with zero blueberries. So I inform the waitress that my pancakes are wrong and why did I get 5 pancakes? She states "That's what you ordered" I said, no ma'am, I asked for the 2 pancakes that came with the meal to have blueberries added to them not give me an additional stack of pancakes. She takes my plate and states that she's going to have to pay for this mistake and walks away. Next thing we know the cook comes out greasy and sweaty with both plates of pancakes cupped under his arm pits and YELLS at me, "what's your problem here?" I tell him what happened and he tells me the same thing the waitress said and told me I was going to pay for 5 pancakes to which I told him in a LOUD voice, NO I WILL NOT, give me my 2 pancakes with blueberries, its not rocket science. He then YELLS back at me.. FINE, ILL MAKE YOUR DAMN PANCAKES! And throws the plates into the trash breaking the plates and calling me an A$$HOLE! I flipped out and jumped out of my chair, I'm 6'4 400 lbs and I'm not going to be bullied by nobody so I told him to bring his a$$ back here if he wants to take this outside and I said SCREW YOU! We're leaving and we all got up and started to walk out. The waitress said she was going to call the police and I told her GOOD because I'm about to beat the sh*t out of the cook. He came back out and said, YOU CANT LEAVE and that we better pay for the food, I went into a complete rage and we got into a fight. I told him he better prey to GOD that I don't beat him to death and I walked out. The waitress locked the door and we waited 30 mins and the cops never showed up and we left. I have never been back to this craphole and I urge people never to go to this terrible establishment when you're treated like crap as a paying customer. read more

We really like this restaurant and Samm our server. But its becoming very pricey. Soft drinks are $3.89, Coffee $3.79. If you order pancakes there is a separate charge for syrup(1st time ever seen this in a restaurant). Just ate at Jerry's Bob's. Coffee is $3.19, Coke is $3.29. Had delicious pancakes. After having breakfast, I asked for soup to go. They asked if I wanted a cup or a bowl. I ordered 2 bowls of soup to go. Now if a cup is 8 ounces, I assumed that a bowl would be more than 8 ounces. When I checked the order after I got home it appeared they had given me 2 cups instead of 2 bowls. When I went back to check it out, I was informed that a bowl was 9 ounces. So, a cup is 8 ounces, and a bowl is 9 ounces. The cook or owner -not sure- told me not to come back after I asked for my money back. I won't be back- that is for sure- and not because he told me not to come back, but rather, because I do not appreciate being ripped off. I have been there several times and the breakfasts are usually palatable not the best, but not the worst either. Also be aware, although it is posted on the menu somewhere that the gratuity is already added to the bill. read more

I really love Alice's, and I'm not sure why they have low reviews. The food is affordable and tasty. They have dozens of menu items. The corned beef hash doesn't come from a can. The service is great; we've been treated like regulars by our third visit. The ambience is fun, lot's of memorabilia to look at, or if you'd rather, a great view of the Catalinas. I was so hungry and I got the Bubba item on the menu. Those biscuits and gravy filled me up and were great. Waitresses were all very friendly and service was fast. I must have had a few dozen breakfasts at this place and not much has changed. The kitschy Coca-Cola decor is still there. The servers are still serving up the same eggs, bacon, hash browns, pancakes, omelettes, etc. But... I have found there's more to the menu. On my last couple of visits I have dug into the lunch side of the menu. My tuna melt, on rye with swiss, was nicely done. You get a lot of choices for your side; fries, onion rings, coleslaw, cottage cheese, fruit, etc. Be healthy and choose the fruit or pick something fried and spend a little extra time at the gym. The onion rings next to my sandwich surely went from the freezer to the fryer. They were freshly fried and hot but I wished for maybe three or four more. I really can't complain for the less than six dollar price tag. I dragged a buddy down here for lunch recently and we both had the fish and fries basket. You also get another side, so we both chose coleslaw. The server even told us that the fish was frozen when we asked what the difference was between the fish basket and the cod dinner (the cod was grilled BTW). The fish and fries were, again, freshly fried, hot and crispy and the coleslaw was a perfect accompaniment. The variety of hot sauces on the table allowed us to doll up the tartar sauce to our liking. Neither of us could finish our fries because there were so many. We both walked away satisfied. So the bottom line is... breakfast may be the most important meal of the day, but it's not the only thing on the menu here. read more

Don't waste your time or money here! I used to frequent this restaurant years ago and it was decent food for a reasonable price. The reason we stopped coming here was the owner and their list of rules plastered all over the place. Fast forward to today. The hash browns were way under cooked. The English muffin was cooked (not toasted) on the grill and only on one side. The sausage was cooked again only on one side. So I guess to make up for all the under cooking of the other food they over cooked the eggs. The Biscuits and gravy were bland at best. Then to top off our experience the owner through out a customer for bringing in a water bottle. Screaming at the customer that " It's my rules! Get out!" It's currently 102 degrees out and any smart Tucsonan carries water with them. Well not only did they lose a customer and her son by throwing them out, but they lost my family's business also. read more

My husband and I had tried the little Swiss bakery next door a while back and had been curious to try Alice's, so after hitting up an antique show on the far east side we thought we'd finally try it. It was pretty cute inside and also pretty busy. After getting our dribk orders, it was quite some time before someone came back to take our food orders. My husband actually had to flag a server down. He seemed stressed and side-tracked. I ordered a breakfast sandwich on a biscuit with a side of homefries, and my husband ordered the French toast meal. Our server brought out our meals in decent time but apparently the cook had forgotten my fries. It was pretty disappointing too because my sandwich was tiny and drab. It would have been a nice balance to a boring main dish. The biscuit was falling apart too. Crumbling apart on the bottom. It tasted very rushed. The homefries were brought out as I took my last bite. I sent them back.....I wanted them WITH my meal. Our server was nice despite his frazzled disposition, but we're not going back.
