We met our guides and were divided into two groups- we had a total of four kayaks (includes our guide's kayak). Our group was small and our guide was overly knowledgeable. He grew up on the island and we got a lot of historical information. Our group of three only needed one water battle each and we ate a snack at the waterfall. However, We would have been fine without anything. Brought a large ziplock bag to pack our trash out. This tour is a must do if you're able to paddle and walk on a trail and through streams with some uneven rock in the water. This is not a rushed tour- safety was always important. The kayaking was easy and beautiful. The guide gave us helpful advice on kayaking. We left at noon and I felt that we were not in the morning rush of lots of kayaks. So going back and forth in the kayak, was like a private tour. I would suggest water shoes- we bought at Walmart on island. There are some streams and mud to walk through. One area before the falls you need to climb up about three/four made up steps. Our guide was Nui and he was delightful and gave us a list of places to eat since we needed his expertise. Selecting a tour company is big decision. I will say that we met a charming other guide from another company and we were very pleased that we went with local Hawaiian guide. read more

This was a must! Kayak, hike and secret waterfall! Our guide was Kamu/ Kumu, sorry if misspelling. He was awesome. So much knowledge to share about the history of Kauai. The kayaking isn't that hard, a bunch of beginners and we all did fine. BRING WATER SHOES! The hike is more like a small walk on big rocks and then a hike part. The waterfall, I can't say enough about the waterfall, serene, gorgeous, 1000% worth it! Bring food. We didn't get a wet bag so anticipate that. Also go early, we didn't have too many people going at 9, but by the time we left there were lots of kayaks and more people coming. Would love to do this again one day! read more

We really enjoyed our time kayaking on the river, hiking and swimming in the waterfall. It was our favorite activity of our 12 day vacation! Our guide, Ryan was really great, he took care of my 6 year old niece as if she was his own, carrying her through the stream crossings. Mana was our guide. He gave practically no instruction for those of us that had not kayaked before. He and one kayak of our group were way ahead of all the rest of us. The hike had slippery large rocks. Again Mana walked way ahead and only one couple stayed at his pace. On the return trip, while waiting for last kayak, Mana borrowed an eFoil electric surfboard and went for a ride. Mana was out for a good time for himself. He is a nice guy but a poor tour guide The rocks are very dangerous. read more

Any tour can be great if you have the right guide. Rocky was experienced with the area, very knowledgeable on the all hiking trail or no trail, plants, trees and wildlife in the surrounding area. Our guide,Rocky did an amazing job of interacting with all of us even though we were a very diverse group (age and skill level). He was extremely knowledgeable of the Hawaiian culture, plants and wildlife in the area. Some of his talents included weaving flowers out of bamboo leaves while leaping rocks or wading through the stream. The hike to the waterfall was not too difficult. Went with my husband October 24th 2019 for our Kauai Vacation and hands down one of the best activities we did in the island. I get motion sickness and thank goodness it wasn't bad at all. The hike was fun. It was challenging but an awesome experience. Once you get to the waterfall it's just perfect! We had a blast! I see some reviews that say the hike and kayak were easy and that you didn't need a tour guide. I see other reviews that say it was strenuous even for people who are in shape. So. Ow you get my opinion. I certainly don't think that I could have found the secret waterfall without a tour guide. Maybe if I had a map that told me to go left at the big palm tree and right at the little palm tree, then maybe I could find it on my own. Not!!! But, I admit, I'm directionally challenged. There were times we were definitely following a path and there were other times that I would've had no idea which way to go. Unless you know the area, I don't think I would suggest trying this on your own. As for the challenge and difficulty, I guess I would put it in the easy-ish to medium category. The hike wasn't hard at all, hard as in difficult, it was muddy and slippery so you had to be careful at some spots, but if you have hiked even the first two miles of the Kalalau trail, you could do this one with your hands tied behind your back. Again, I wouldn't consider the kayak strenuous. But you're not floating and being carried by momentum, specifically on the way back. The guide said the tide had come in and we would be going against the flow... Which we were. It still wasn't strenuous as in you need to stop and take a break in the hour that it took to get back. But there was a time that my arms were feeling it. I loved it! The view was beautiful, to me, it was a relaxing hike and kayak. And the time at the falls it was not rushed. We were given as much time as we wanted. And our guide, Eric, was a very knowledgeable of our surroundings and the vegetation and even gave us a history lesson on the Hawaiian Islands. read more

Did this tour with my 16 yr old twins. Helpful, if you have some kayaking experience, but not necessary. The tour guide is very patient. We had a larger group, as one of the tour guides didn't show up. The hike can be challenging, at times. Mostly because a good portion of it, you hike across smooth wet rocks. Rocks can be slippery & difficult to navigate. That was the part I least enjoyed. I'll include a pic. Wear rubber sturdy booties if you have them or a sturdy sandal with a substantial sole. I also don't recommend this for kids under 7/8 yrs old. The falls, are beautiful. Our tour guide, stopped a few times and showed us many local plants in the rainforest. He also gave us a nice history lesson of the area that we were hiking in. The city has also recently put in a deck for part of the trail to the falls, which was very helpful. Bring bug spray if you have it. I didn't & have a few mosquito bites. I didn't read that when I researched the tour and came unprepared. Pack a light lunch and you don't really need a towel read more

This tour was fantastic! We took our kids, ages 5-9 and they did phenomenal. Our guide was a MAJOR reason the kids did so great. Eric is local to the island and provided a ton of information about the history of the island, and the culture. This made the experience even richer. The views along the river and the hike are breathtaking. If you don't have water shoes, hiking in tennies would be ok, but prepare to have soggy feet. Bug spray for the hike, and sunscreen for your legs in the kayak will make you more comfortable. read more
