This time we went for a work related Christmas party, there was approximately 175 people and the party was in the downstairs banquet hall. Our party offered free beer and soda with a cash bar. Drinks were reasonable but just ok. Food was served buffet style. We had 3 main courses, beef tips over noodles, baked chicken and baked cod, for sides we had salad, rice, and mashed potatoes with chicken gravy and cake for dessert. Servers were attentive and picking up the dirty plates as fast as they came Hall space was nice, we were seated at round tables, 8 to a table, there is a small dance floor and room for a dj or live music. They even have one of those chairlifts to help people who cant make the stairs. (I did not see an elevator) Parking was easy as they have a large lot. Overall a good experience read more

I wanted to pick up a fish fry on my way home from work and, even though I didn't have them bookmarked for some reason, Alioto's popped into my mind as a place that serves Friday fish frys along my way. Apparently they don't accept call in orders for their fish fry, which seems odd to me, but I was told to wait wasn't long if I wanted to stop in and place it to go order. I ended up ordering a four piece cod with crinkle fries for the side. They didn't provide disposable utensils or ketchup packets by default and, having never been there before, I don't know if I was supposed to request them, so buttering the two pieces of bread was a little difficult. Not as difficult, however, as eating the crinkle fries. Although crispy, they're among the most bland fries I've ever had and I couldn't finish them. Not a single speck of seasoning or salt. I'm not a big ketchup person, but I wish I'd had some to use. As a huge contrast to the fries, the fish was excellent. The pieces were large and meaty with a light, crunchy breading. I'd gladly stop and get the fish again, but pair it with the red potatoes instead of the awful crinkle fries. As a note, when you enter the building there are two doors to choose from in the vestibule. I believe the left door goes to the bar area. Ive been driving by this place for years always wanting to stop and after seeing it on fox 6 this morning i decided today was the day! Im sorry i didnt do it sooner as it was amazing! I had baked cod and it was great! Loved the tarter sauce and coleslaw! My friend had perch and said it was the best she's had in a long time and she tries it everywhere we go! Overpriced, bland food for the older folks who are set in their ways. Alioto's is a supper club that is overrun by the elderly. Not that that's a bad thing, necessarily, but elderly Americans are not known for their discerning palate. I think people come here because of tradition, not because the food is delicious, which it isn't. Don't get me wrong, the food is definitely edible, but the lack of flavor and spices will leave you yearning for more food....at a different restaurant. We've been here several times, by request of family, and it is the same every time. Plates of lukewarm, mediocre food, overpriced at $20+ a plate. The cocktails, however, are pretty solid, and they can make anything from a Brandy Old-Fashioned to a Sex On The Beach. Service is generally good, for how busy it can get, especially during holidays, and there is plenty of parking. Reservations during holidays is an absolute must, and even then, you're often waiting an additional 20 minutes or more for a table. We were here for a Lions Club meeting in a back room. When we arrived we were told to order off a special menu. My husband and I both ordered the lasagna that came with a side salad. It was filling and tasty - we enjoyed our meal. A second time here in March we ordered specials of Ruben Sandwich and meatball Sandwich. The Ruben was stacked with in house corned beef. We came to Alioto's for a small banquet (about 50 people) after a family funeral. If you come for a restaurant meal I hope your experience might be better, but because my food at a small banquet was practically inedible I would never consider coming back -- and on that basis I can't recommend that anyone dines at Alioto's. On the plus side -- everyone at the banquet had a choice of four entrees -- chicken parmigiana, petite filet, salmon with pasta, and pork chops with potatoes. Some of the other selections may have been good or very good but I did not taste them so I can't review them. The wait staff did their job in an acceptable though rudimentary fashion. On the negative side -- my plate. I opted for the pork chops -- a calculated risk on my part. I love well prepared pork chops -- but they are also difficult to cook well. The kitchen came up woefully short. The chops were dry and chewy. Not even a dollop of salty gravy and a plastic cup of applesauce could redeem them. The undressed oven roasted/baked potatoes were cooked through. That's good if you like plain potatoes, but they brought nothing of interest to the plate. Something as simple as a plastic cup of sour cream would have helped. I had to settle for unused butter left from the bread course. I'll admit -- I deliberately opted for the most challenging plate to execute well at a banquet. Had the kitchen nailed it, or even prepared it halfway decent, I'd be writing a pretty good review. Unfortunately for Alioto's, (or any establishment) everything needs to be on point. If not -- then from me -- two stars at best. read more

I'm not someone who normally writes reviews but i had to in this situation. Ordered the Italian Beef Sandwich with fries and it was extremely disappointing. The Beef was barely tender and almost completely flavorless. It came with an Au Jus sauce that was also flavorless and did nothing to help the sandwich. The fries were dry and mealy in texture and also completely disappointing. On the plus side, the sandwich was a substantial size, but I threw the majority away so it was a complete loss for me. read more

We were here for a post-funeral luncheon so not sure about the full menu if dining here and not at an event. It turns out I was here over 35 years ago for one of my sister's wedding reception but I have no recollection of that... must have been a good party! Obviously this place has been around a long time. The set up for the luncheon was a typical party room way in back. The food was good for a large group of around 100. The petite fillet mignon was decent and medium doneness. My experience with Alioto's is from a group gathering. We didn't have an open menu to work with, but 4 decent choices: Filet (beef), chicken parm, some sort of fish (maybe the cod?), and a veggie pasta dish. Most of the folks around me got the filet option. While it was smaller (I'm guessing the "petite" cut vs. "queen"), the flavor was fantastic. I savored every bite. And the button mushrooms just kicked it into another gear - they soaked up the beef juice and amplified all the flavors. I'm not eating potatoes currently, so I shared those (my wife gave me her salad, so it was fair). I knew a few people that got the chicken parmesan, and they really enjoyed it. it was served with mostaccioli. Service was well done - very friendly and efficient. The building itself is a little dated, carrying an old-timey "supper club" feeling. But the layout is pretty good to where they can cordon off areas for private gatherings while keeping a separate "public" are going. They do a GREAT job with groups - if you look at their website, they have various menus and options for whatever group event you have going on, broken into "school dinner", "bridal/baby shower", "funeral", etc. And various offerings under each of those categories. They just make it easy for you to plan something. With my son in college not too far away, and other family in that area, I think we'll try to hit Alioto's as regular diners and check out the full menu. read more

I've been to Alioto's so many times now that I've lost count! We typically come for the fish fry and old fashioned's because, Wisconsin, and Alioto's do these things very well. We usually meet in the swanky lounge because the decor and seating reminds me of a slower time when people took the time to enjoy life without having to run off to this place or that. And it's swanky. The bartenders are always busy but also, always friendly and quick to take care of you. Come here enough and they remember your drink of choice. The option to eat at the bar is nice for the days you don't want to go to the dining hall, with the bar setup for your meal right there with your drink. There is also popcorn in the swanky lounge, in case you can't wait until dinner orrrrr if you stay for hours chatting after dinner! One of my favorite memories has to be when one of the bartenders dusted the snow off our cars at the end of the night. Now that's service!!! There is a large dining hall where you can put your name on a list when you arrive and then go wait in the swanky lounge until they call your name over the loudspeaker. There is usually a wait but usually a pretty short wait but there is the option to make a reservation or even get your food to go. The servers and bussers are always very efficient but it may be a good idea to look at the menu beforehand. When they're swamped, they're ready with pen in hand for your order: food or drinks from the bar. My usual, the baked cod, is flaky and of substantial size. The coleslaw and potato pancakes are a must! I always leave here with lunch for the next day. I always enjoy the change of seasonal decorations throughout the restaurant/ bar and appreciate the extra touch to make the guests feel like they're with family. There is a very large parking lot surrounding the building but also a carport area for dropping off during the rain or just to be nice because you know you won't find parking anywhere close to the door. The first time here you might now know which door to enter but if you remember, restaurant to the right, liquor to the left, you'll be okay. I've only been here on Friday nights but I have noticed there are also some great specials throughout the week. HOWEVER, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and taste of all the menu items in the buffet for our private party. Over the years, we've eaten at Alito's about five or six times; the last time, five or six years ago. On Saturday night 3/10/18, it seemed all of Tosa was busy as could be at all the usual dinner houses, so decided to give Alioto's a visit. We were surprised that it wasn't jammed and were able to be seated immediately. Now, for those already familiar with Alioto's, you know this place is a favorite, old school, supper club"ish" restaurant favorited by 'ole timers. Safe to say, we definitely weren't the oldest ones in there Saturday night (LOL)! In fact, there were a few table of young folks there, too, which makes me want to say, listen, you young folks, there is no reason NOT to go to a place to eat because folks older than you frequent the place. C'mon! I had my best meal here Saturday night; Lamb Chops. They were really good! Tender, made to order perfectly at medium rare, served with minted aspic. Dinners first come with both salads and soup, both of which were very good. Cheryl had the grilled shrimp and she said it was excellent. Our server was Sandra, a hard working, efficient lady who was on top of her game 100% and really nicely took care of us, making our meal that more enjoyable. We ordered Italian beef sandwiches and seeing as this is an Italian restaurant, we thought they would be good. We could not even bite into the meat. It was like leather. the waitress suggested a meatball sandwich instead and she brought that out and the meatballs were just pure mush. We will not be going back very very disappointing. read more

Mr Martinez had an order screw up and was comped a fish fry which he graciously gave to our department which the three of us picked at after lunch time. It was late and we already had lunch but we picked at it, it was a freebie. Who knows how old it was when we were given it but as take out, it was not bad at all with plump chunks of fried moist fish, irregular shaped pieces and not processed fish. Fresh bread, butter, tarter sauce and my hated crinkle frys. Dam this take out the fish fry was moist, batter was soggy but not bad for left overs. The crinkle frys were not dry and moist and for left over take out we were digging this comp fish fry. This warrants a stop by because if the old/seconds were not too bad than how is the actual fresh fry, I'm told you can't get in here for the fish fry but I don't believe it so I'm going to try. read more

Only thing I thought could use some improvement would be the attitudes of the servers. It appears they have some that have been there since the first brick was payed down to build the building and they are just flat out rude, cranky and have no interest in doing their jobs. We never got refills on water, bread, (which was stale like it came off someone else's table) or even checked on until it was time to pay the bill. Then she was Johnny on the spot. Attended a lunch event here. It was a buffet set-up where the food was pretty decent. Lots of variety: pasta, beef tips(?), chicken parmesan, salad, tiramisu, etc. Service was just okay. Pot of coffee looked like it was supposed to be poured for folks (in small pitcher type containers), but both of the small ones were empty. For them to have such small containers for a party of 50 and not to refill them (even after we told them they were empty) until after the buffet was open was odd. They also started taking the buffet food away before everyone was done eating and started breaking down the tables and cleaning before everyone was done talking. It wasn't even as if we were there that long nor that loud. It was just odd. One day I would like to just go to the restaurant portion and see what it is truly like as a day-to-day customer. Scheduled buffet for a post funeral service for 150 people. The moment the final guest got their plate, the servers were packing up the buffet set up. Many guests mentioned to me that they didnt get to try some foods because the food ran out and the servers refused to bring out more, upon request. Cake ran out, relish tray gone, coffee, lasagna, chicken parm, eggplant, all ran out... We paid for a buffet and got nothing of the sort. We were also told that we had the dining areas to ourselves until 430pm. At 2:45, the servers started packing up the room and closing up tables while we were all still mingling, sitting and talking. They were actually resetting tables while we still sat at them. They took our drinks not even empty and cleaned up before we were done. By 3:30pm everyone had been ushered out. It was very clear that they fed us and wanted us gone. EXTREMELY rude. I cannot express my disappointment in Aliotos. My dad selected this restaurant prior to his death. Our family and friends had one last opportunity to spend time together and reminisce of the memories of my dad. Aliotos stole that time from us; time that we can never get back. I strongly recommend against this establishment. I would never do business again with a facility that treats mourning guests so poorly. read more

The high light was the bread and over chilled butter. The entrees were decent but nothing spectacular. The food was average portions and the salad was awful. I think the house salad was made the week , or month before and I can't believe they would consider it edible and serve it to humans We had ti get our own drinks from the bar where the relic bartender was less than friendly. Two people at the bar and you would have thought we were bothering him for our over priced and under poured cocktails. Came here for a thanksgiving meal with my Dad. Even though they were extremely busy, the hostess and our waitress handled the constant crowd the best that they could. Our waitress was wonderful at multitasking and we were able to order and receive our food quickly. I was going to order the traditional thanksgiving dinner, but it is always tough for me to turn down shrimp when it is an option. Shrimp can sometimes be a letdown when I order it, but I am happy to say that the grilled shrimp were absolutely delicious, and a welcomed lighter option on a day meant for gluttony. Our drinks were refilled, bread was good, but our salads could have been fresher. My Dad had the turkey dinner and shared some with me. It was tasty, but I was happy with my choice. Our waitress confessed to being new when she could not answer questions about menu items. Showed irritation when asked to go find out. We waited ONE HOUR for our salads to be brought out. The "house Italian" was only red wine vinegar. I honestly did not have any oil in my mixture. Only Italian Restaurant I've been too that did not have parmigiana cheese on table. I've been eating here for over 30 years. Went for a fish fry tonight to celebrate my birthday. This place has really gone down hill in my opinion. Fish was nothing special, didn't touch my salad, lettuce was limp and looked a week old. French onion soup here has been my favorite forever, didn't taste the same and wasn't hot. We decided to stop at this establishment because it was a family owned option. Finding the driveway from the opposite side of the road was a bit tricky. This restaurant has vast space for seating and a large menu to match. It offers many American and Italian meal options. The atmosphere was classic dinner club dining with warm jazz music. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food was served warm with a very minimal wait. The portion sizes were large and reasonably priced. This restaurant is perfect for family meals and seems to be group outing friendly. Two meals were ordered. The rib meat quality was slightly fatty but the sauce had excellent taste. The salad was crisp with higher quality lettuce. The garlic chicken pasta included chicken breast, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower served on a bed of spaghetti. If you are looking for locally owned restaurant, this is a great option. I would recommend this restaurant and eat there, again. read more

Usually I'm very satisfied here at Alioto's but today I am extremely disappointed and offended .I received excellent service from our server but the management this evening could not even come to the table to make sure everything was OK . The pork chop was pink at the bone. My polite and seemingly hard working server was apologetic and professional. I cut into my meat....... She came back and noticed before I opened my mouth and said," I am so sorry, I did put that in as medium well as you requested ,I will take that back so we can make that correctly; I am really sorry! " She took it away and returned in less than 7 minutes. She sat it in front of me and it appeared blackened on the outside (burned appearance)!! I cut into it (she had walked away already); It bled more onto my plate..Now I'm pissed on the inside (cool on the outside). She stops back with a look of concern. "How is it now?". She saw the puddle of blood on my plate. She seemed pissed (she is trying to make a living via TIPS). This is screwing with her livelihood. She storms over to the Caucasian Female manager to express the issue and pointed over at my table of 8 African American individuals. The Manager looked over our direction ;frowned in disgust; reached under the counter; grabbed a $10 coupon; signed it; handed it to our server; stayed at the register. It pains me to give a Milwaukee institution such a low rating. I have heard about Alioto's for decades, driven past hundreds of times, and yet had never been there until recently. We thought we would be walking into a dimly lit, red banquette/booth situation. Um, no...it looks more like a cafeteria. Quite bright lighting, round tables with low-backed chairs. Interestingly, at least half the table weren't set up for dining but rather had card players at them. Is this the norm? No judgement for that, it was just odd. All told, on a Saturday night, we were one of only five tables of diners. There were three tables of card players. For such an institution we couldn't help but wonder why it was so empty. I ordered a brandy old-fashioned sweet; I'm not sure if the bartender understands how to make Wisconsin's signature drink because this was not good. We started with the toasted ravioli - these were very good with the exception of the "marinara" sauce for dipping. It's basically plain tomato sauce out of a can. My son had the meatball sandwich. He said it was passable but had nothing on the meatball sandwich from Glorioso's. My husband had the lasagna; it was fine but nothing to write home about. I had the Sicilian steak. The meat was very, very tender; I could have cut it with a fork. However, it wasn't seasoned at all. I rarely add salt to my food at a restaurant but I went back for the salt shaker three times for this steak. How did the cook not season this while cooking? The accompanying vegetables were fine, if a bit oily. We ended the meal with the strawberry Schaum torte - THAT was delicious. If it wouldn't have been rude my son would have licked the plate. Overall, we won't go back to Alioto's. I wish now that I had gone there decades ago so I would know what all the fuss was about. read more

This was our first visit and we were expecting a "supper club" atmosphere, and it kinda is, but in a more generic style. To be fair to the servers, there was a very large group of retired golfers there the night we went. It was clear the staff was having a hard time keeping up with them, so wait times were probably long for that reason. Everyone was friendly but clearly working hard. The menu is full of old-style items, both Italian and "regular" (steaks, chops, etc). We chose the Veal Parmigiana (a first for her) and the breaded pork chops (featured on the 'lighter fare' page of the menu). Both were served with a salad. Nothing to report there. The basket of bread was tasty, and there were a few cellophane-wrapped bread sticks jammed in a cup on the table. The meals arrived and I could tell that I was in for an adventure. The pork chops were breaded, but thin, and lonely on a plate with a piece of lettuce and a couple of orange slices. They were overcooked, but the breading was oddly soggy. They were completely flavorless, and I imagined they tasted like what cornflakes would taste like if they were made of meat. The side of pasta was pretty much noodles with Ragu. Her veal looked just like the chops, only with sauce on top. And they tasted almost the same as the chops - that is, they lacked any flavor at all. Overall this was an odd and disappointing meal. Ordinarily I'd go back to try again, but I don't think this restaurant is for me. We had a laugh at the cash register. There was a small shelf with bottles of Alioto's Spices for sale behind the counter ($5). We said "so that's where all the flavor went..." Forgot to mention: The veal was $25! read more

had dinner last night there and it was the worst food I have eaten. I ordered a combination plate, the perch were very soggy and the shrimp were raw the scallops were dripping with water or some kind of liquid , the other guest had walleye but said it was the worst he's had, it tasted like salmon he said. we never saw the waiter until we were through eating, he never came and asked us how everything was so we could send the food back to have it fried more. I've had very good fish fry from El Greco. Cheaper and you get soup and dessert with your meal. I was very disappointed in Alioto seeing that google said it was the best fish fry . NOT!!!!!!! Just left Alioto's from another AMAZING meal! We wanted to take our kids out for a nice meal without having to cook right before Christmas. We started with mozzarella sticks (wonton wrapped which automatically = deliciousness) and Their eggplant! The best I have ever had. Our two older boys (14 and 11) shared a 14" pizza. It's hard to please these two, but they loved it. My husband had the chicken parm- also loved it, and I had their ribs- let me re-phrase, I had their perfectly cooked fall of the bone ribs, which I will most definitely have again! Our 16 month old enjoyed buttered noodles too. This was our second visit here within the past few months, and we absolutely love it. The food is always amazing and the service is always wonderful. All of the bad reviews seem to be "filtered". Interesting, yelp. Very interesting. Anyway, I went to Alioto's a really long time ago when I was a kid. It was pretty darn good back then (okay by "back then" I mean 2003). The service was excellent from what I remember, and the food was stellar. Today I went for the fish fry, and let me say, I was utterly disappointed. First, the crowd is old. Like I'm talking Perkins on a sunday morning kind of old. You are drowning in a sea of white hair and oxygen tanks. And the food caters to that generation. Bland and tasteless. The menu is confusing. Let me explain the fish fry so that you will not be yelled at for asking about it. There is the fish plate. Its $9.99 and it comes with 2 pieces of (small) fish, fries, and coleslaw". The "Alioto's fish fry" is $11.99 and is supposed to be their equivalent of all you can eat. It is not family style regardless of what the menu claims. You start with 3 pieces, and you can have up to two more pieces after that IF they allow you to (you have to be the chosen one). When I asked the waiter what the difference was between the "Alioto's fish fry" and the "fish plate" was, he sighed rudely and spit out a confusing explanation about how you "Aren't ALLOWED to share this meal family style" and how "There are no take home bags. You HAVE to eat the fish here". I'm sorry, I didn't know eating fish had it's own set of strict rules! We proceeded to order and the waiter walked away without saying a word. Before we even had the chance to butter our bread, the waiter threw our plates down on our table and said "here!". The fish was okay. Not a Kegel's Inn or a Packing House kind of quality, but it was relatively satisfying. A little bland, and the breading was a corn meal breading which I was not too fond of. The fries were tasteless and not salted. And the coleslaw had some sort of seed on it that just ruined the dish. I finished my 3 pieces of fish and had to eat it without anything to drink (the waiter did not refill our water cups until the end of the meal). We were completely ignored while we ate. The waiter never checked up on us, never refilled our water glasses, and never asked me if I wanted those hidden two pieces of fish. INSTEAD, after I finished my meal and was waiting around for 10 minutes, he came over with another plate of fish and chips and said "here, I finally got your fish. Just take your fork off of your plate." I was surprised because I didn't even want it haha. We were ignored for another 20 minutes before he finally gave us a bill and spit out the same uniform "thanks have a nice night" he gave the last four tables. Just awful customer service. read more
