My daughter and I went here before an event at Concordia. We never heard of it and due to the name we didn't know what kind of food to expect. We pulled up and we're shocked that it was a Mexican restaurant. But we like Mexican so we were good! To begin there was only one waitress, so the service was not very quick at the start..... I didn't have high hopes. However, the menu had a lot of choices and the margaritas were very good! I ordered the pork belly tacos, and my daughter ordered the shrimp tacos. We were amazed! Not only were the chips tasty with a nice seasoning the food was amazing. The food came out quick and accurate. My trip here was just fine! Average and fine. Felt so bad for the servers as they were obviously short staffed. They got our order wrong and fixed it right away though! We ordered the chips con salsa. The regular salsa wasn't my favorite, very tomato puree heavy which reminded me of marinara. My friend thought it had some heat. The jalapeño ranch is definitely the one to get. Very unique option. We also tried the chips con queso, which had great flavor and the perfect consistency. I got the crispy tacos with added jalapeños and double beans. The taco shells were thin and crispy without falling apart, and the portion size is large. They told us it would be a 45 minute wait for two, when we asked if we could sit at the bar they shared there were high top tables available to seat yourself. I was really excited to try Highland House for Mexican food to celebrate cinco de mayo. They have a big bar right at the entrance, however I was not a fan of the music, early 2010s pop, which took away from the mexican ambiance. We got margaritas and chips, salsa + jalapeno ranch (yes you have to pay for them). I got my margarita in a mug, which I was not too thrilled with, but the spicy mango habanero margarita was fantastic. We then got birria tacos which were dry and not super flavorful. The shrimp quesadilla was amazing, very cheesy and lots of shrimp. The staff was great, very nice and attentive, and we got our food very quick. We were in and out within an hour. We had another great experience at the Highland House! The food was delicious! My wife got the avocado burger and I got the Caesar salad wrap which was awesome! Came in the middle of the afternoon on a Sunday and had outstanding service in the bar area even with a pretty busy bar. Server was attentive and friendly and didn't miss a thing. We were able to watch baseball and relax with alcoholic and non-alcoholic margaritas. The food arrived quickly and was very fresh. My Mexico City Shrimp truly surpassed my expectations (I've been here before and it's always good but this was different). It had a great balance of sweet corn cake with a moderate spice in the shrimp marinade. There were 6 healthy sized shrimp and the meal was filling and fairly priced. This may be my new favorite dish here, usurping the steak fajita bowl. Cinco de Mayo with a friend was fun at Highland House. We kept it simple with margaritas and appetizers but the service was good and the food was fabulous. We decided at the last minute to do drinks and apps for dinner. My friend hadn't been to Highland House before so I treated as an early 81st birthday since I'll be out of town on her big day. I always take her out for margaritas on her birthday so I did it early this year! We really enjoyed the food and drinks. We had fun watching people and talking about our community events. It was a great last minute celebration! The food was plentiful -- we both had leftovers! She enjoyed the Trio with salsa instead of the ranch and I ordered wings. We shared the apps between us. Food if you have no where else to go and the menu is nice with a lot of options. The atmosphere was great, very family oriented, but also great for just two or four people to hang out and enjoy a nice meal and conversation. We recently had a really nice time at Highland House! It was my first time visiting in ages, so I was excited to return. It was a last minute idea on a Friday night, so I was worried we might not get a table (four adults and three kids), but I forgot how massive this place is... so many tables! That being said, the place was super busy but we still got seated right away. I'm a big fan of their back patio. It's vast, and also really private, so it feels like you're in a little oasis back there. Especially with all of the colorful walls and chairs, the pergola-style overhangs, and fun music. We were quickly greeted by our very sweet server who grabbed us all waters, kids menus, and margaritas right away! For the kiddos, we ordered a quesadilla and chicken tenders right away for them to share. We wanted something to snack on ourselves, so our server recommended the dip trio - yum, just what we needed! Out came a basket of season tortilla chips paired with chunky guac, queso and a jalapeño ranch or sorts. It was a great app to have with the (massive) margaritas that came to the table. Let me tell ya, you get the bang for your buck with these, and they're so refreshing. Their food menu is massive, so I was having a tough time trying to decide. Tacos, enchiladas, burritos, fajitas, salads, sammies, burgers... you name it! Something about the fish tacos were speaking to me though so I went with with blackened Mahi Mahi. I have to admit, didn't love the fish itself. It was really pretty dry, so I was bummed! But loved the fresh avocado and cilantro-chipotle aioli on top. The plate came with plenty of other food on it, including a seasoned rice, nicely flavored corn, refried beans and cabbage. All of that had me satisfied! Came in honestly because there's not a lot of other options in the area, and I hadn't been in years. It was basically empty when we got there at 3, but was crowded at the bar when we left at 4:30pm. Our server checked in on us multiple times, and the food was quick. Definitely surprising that they don't give free chips & salsa like I remember them doing years ago. We instead ordered the dip trio-- queso, guac, and jalapeño ranch. The ranch felt really random.. is there no salsa in this place? The guac and queso were GREAT. My Nana just got a Caesar salad, you can see from the photo just how massive the portions are here. I ordered the Baja steak bowl and it was delicious. I enjoyed the combination of flavors like the pickled onions, corn salsa, and the avocado cream sauce. I ended up using the guac & jalapeño ranch from the app on top and it enhanced the taste even more. We both had leftovers and left feeling happy. Ordered a steak burrito, which was nothing but steak, which tasted "off", and tortilla. I was expecting a typical burrito that is stuffed with many different ingredients, they seemed to stop after putting the steak in. I actually sent it back, as I've tasted meat like that before and ended up with a very severe case of food poisoning. I'm not going to say this was spoiled meat, but it certainly didn't taste good. The tortilla chips and salsa were also just very average. The chips were coated in some kind of spice, which detracted from them, and the chips themselves were tough. Date of visit: July 24, 2023 It had been just over a year since our last visit to Highland House, which was the location for our rehearsal dinner. It was great to come back and have such a great meal--especially with just a couple of good friends instead of a giant group! Our server was very attentive and efficient, the food was out before we knew it--though good conversation can have that effect on you. I went with my usual ground beef quesadilla--it's always enough for two meals for me and warms up nicely for lunch the next day. While I wish the chips and salsa were free, they are always tasty and staff doesn't mind bringing you a second bowl because you hungrily wolfed down the first one in a matter of minutes! I visited the Highland House with my sister and our elderly parents, one who uses a cane to walk and the other who is using a scooter. We walked in and struggled with them to get up the stairs. The host just stood there watching us, never pointing out there was a ramp we could use. The food was terrible. My sister ordered the Enchiladas Rojas and there was no sauce on them whatsoever. She asked the waitress about this and she said they "lightly brush" sauce over the enchiladas. What? Enchiladas come with sauce on them! She brought my sister a side of sauce and it was terrible, tasted like warm red water. She stopped eating her meal, said the rice was gummy and the beans were gross. My Santa Fe salad was boring, the chicken breast was plain - no spices, not grilled. Upon exiting, once again struggling to get my parents down the stairs, I asked the two (yes TWO!) people standing at the host desk (who were watching us) if they had a ramp. Oh yes, of course they do - to the left of where we were! Instead of informing us of this while we were helping 80+ year old people, they stood their watching until I asked. Inexcusable. I was told it was a Mexican restaurant, but the items were so limited. Then we had to pay for tortilla chips as an appetizer. WHAT??? What Mexican restaurant doesn't throw in a complimentary basket of chips and salsa. They came out had some burned garlic powder sprinkled on them and the two ramekins of sauce were nothing more than watered down ranch dressing and some kind of salsa. Too quickly after ordering, our food came out--under 5 minutes. Which is a red flag for me that this was already prepared and waiting to put on a plate. The food wasn't hot. It wasn't cold either, it was just room temperature and tasteless. We've been to many Mexican restaurants including all over Mexico. This was about as 'Mexican' as Taco Bell. A quick look around the restaurant had me wondering why, since there were plenty of seats around. First was the appetizer, a nice elote dish. Next came my massive burrito (which I did not finish). A few drinks and this was a great night overall. I don't know why I don't come here more often, maybe it's just distance. But when I am in the area, I will be looking to come back here again. A nice sized restaurant with a sizable menu full of appetizers and entrees. Our mid-afternoon visit was timely for some half price apps and a few drink discounts as well. The chicken lettuce wraps were super tasty and included a nicely spiced sauce. My husband and I came here for dinner after adventuring through a State Park. Barley able to walk (this whole coronavirus thing killed my endurance!) and starving to death, we were thrilled to sit outside in the beautiful evening weather in the corner that was much further than 8' from a other patron. We ordered margaritas, that's what you do at the Highland House. They have many flavors and serve on the rocks or blended. It's a personal preference, but i enjoy my flavored drinks blended. I have a weird fascination with the blue of a rainbow margarita and they serve just the blue. Heavenly! Love the chips and salsa and ranch dip! I'm pretty sure it's Lawreys seasoning (a godsend to grilling/cooking) but it pairs so well with tortialla chips and ranch! I don't even like ranch!! The menu has been redsigned and updated since myast visit. Less offerings across the board. My husband ordered the new streak and bacon tacos - 2 tacos plus refried beans and rice. He said they were delicious! I went big and had the lobster and shrimp enchiladas, which also came with rice and beans. It was good but not very hot. Honestly; I've had better from other relatively local resturants. I probably wouldn't order it again. Both plates had a unique housemade pico de gallo with cucumbers, and it was pretty good! Overall experience was good, all the staff was friendly and seemed happy to be working. There were different employees for seating, ordering, receiving food, and cleanup. The Highland House is definitley taking measures to ensure safety of staff and customers. Definitely recommend for those A+ maragritas! I'd like to return when they get back to daily specials too. I want to love the highland house, but I generally leave underwhelmed with my experience. Some highlights of this restaurant - it is HUGE, you can always be seated with ease which is nice to know, especially when you show up with toddlers (which is the case for us most the time). It is a great family spot with affordable and large portions. Its above average noise level also makes it a good spot for said toddlers as you don't feel that your table is going to disrupt your neighbors meal. The margaritas are huge, easily 2-2.5 drinks worth! Service is always quick, we've had food come out before drinks at times. My biggest grief is the food - the menu is WAY too big, you simply don't know what to order and it feels like I strike out every time. I was told to get the fried chicken sandwich and it came overcooked/dry and lacked flavor. My French fries were also luke warm. I wish they would revamp & cut back on the menu so they could do a few things great instead of a lot of things mediocre. read more

I just picked up a large order for our pre-Super Bowl party.... chicken wings, cabos chicken, taquitos... nothing tasted fresh.. tasted like it was made yesterday and reheated to the point of being over cooked. Wings were the tiny store brand type of frozen ones you buy..tasteless. Taquitos were rolled fried burned tortillas with 1/2 tsp of some kind of 'meat' inside. I have been to the highland house twice in my life, once about 20 years ago, and again tonight. Both times, I was completely unimpressed. The service was friendly but terrible. There were three of us in our group and the waitress was unable to remember which of us ordered which drink. She promised to bring items (plates for our appetizers) and never did. She completely screwed up one of our group's order, bringing the wrong item. She was very slow, as well. I ordered the coconut spring tacos and a prickly pear margarita. I don't think there was much, if any, alcohol in the margarita. The tacos were awful. The shrimp was chewy /hard, the tortillas were chewy and the tacos were slathered with a sweet chili sauce which would have been good, in moderation. At the end of the meal, the waitress came to the table to have us pay our bill, with a small handheld credit card machine. I know lots of places do this, and it bugs me. I don't need my server eyeballing me while I decide what I'm going to tip her. I find it awkward and I would prefer they just take my card and come back so I can write in the tip. I wish this place was better.
