Second time here in the last couple of weeks. This time I brought a couple of new people along. To me, they do a lot of things right, but there are still a few "unforced errors" that keep this from being a truly great meal. Food: Once again, the star of the show was the brisket. It is just so very good. I ordered the Panzanella Salad topped with brisket. The salad itself was excellent, and the addition of the brisket made it an outstanding choice. Our table shared an order of the Texas Twinkies. They were delicious, but definitely on the spicy side. In fact, some of us were literally in tears! So, know what you're getting. The others ordered the Mac & Cheese with BBQ Chicken, the Sloppy Joe, and the Double Smashburger. Everyone enjoyed their meals, but no one was raving about them...except me and the brisket. I tried the Smashburger and found it a bit underwhelming. The beef didn't have much flavor, and there wasn't enough char to create those delicious lacy edges that make a smashburger special. The side of haystack onion rings was very good: hot, flavorful, and generously portioned. Service: Our server was polite, but not especially friendly. Even though there were very few people in the restaurant, there were a couple of times when I had to flag them down for things like more water or another drink. A couple of our drinks, including a Bourbon Old Fashioned and a Bloody Mary, were served with an elaborate smoked presentation using a wooden smoke box. It's an interesting idea, but it felt a bit over the top. Atmosphere: I like the feel of the dining room. It's small and full of character. Our table in the corner was a tight fit, but once we were seated, it was comfortable enough. Tip: Get the brisket! read more

A big disappointment. Looking forward to our first visiit at Slloppy Joes. We had a Saturday dinner reservation for 5 We were seated in a very crowded area very close to another table with six people. The place was so noisy it was hard to hear people at our table. Even the server asked us to repeat orders. I ordered the special which was a 16 oz. ribeye (medium) . When the food was brought out the meat looked like it was even cooked. I have never tasted any type of meat that was so salty. Overall the dinner was a waste of our time and money. Ironically, the restaurant is located across the street from Johnny Manhatten's, one of our favorites. read more

6 of us went for dinner and it was quite busy but staff were attentive and food came up pretty quickly. Onion strings and cheese curds were tasty apps with homemade ranch. I had smoked wings which were very flavorful. My wife life the salmon rice bowl and everyone was pretty happy except for my mom who didn't like the Mac and cheese. It was very cheesy but the sauce was grainy and an unpleasant texture. Would definitely return. read more

The menu is HUGE for a little place. You name it they had it. French onion soup-check. Pot pie-check. Burgers-check. Protein bowl-check. All with a full bar. Service was fine. But the food was the star of the show. read more

This restaurant has been a fixture of the area for years but my first visit was 3 weeks ago, the week ownership changed. Matt, the new owner, stopped at our table to introduce himself and give us a bit of his history with the restaurant. He is very pleasant and incredibly knowledgeable. We were there on a Thursday which is all you can eat rib night. Since it was our first time we opted for the brisket / rib combo with baked beans and signature maple glazed mini potatoes . Since then we have taken friends there twice more. The wings are smoked, huge, and juicy . The sauces are to die for - especially the secret weapon. The smoker Mac n Cheese has a load of Brisket, Pulled Pork and Chicken on top of Cavatappi pasta with a 7 cheese sauce. This is enough for 2 meals. All the meats are cooked to perfection. Monday nights are half price wing nights and they do not cut either the size or the quality for the special. I do a lot of my own smoking so I am a bit of a snob about restaurant smoked meats. They knock it out of the park! This has quickly become our new go to spot. Looking so forward to taking more people there. read more

Ordered take out. Got the Henny Burger. Very basic, flavorless burger. Requested no cheese as I'm lactose intolerant, apparently that was too hard of a request because the burger ended up having cheese on it. Don't understand the hype about this place. read more

This has been a long time bookmark of mine so I thought that I would get if off the books today for lunch. My BBQ experience tells me if you smell smoke 90 % of the time it's going to be good and I smell smoke in the parking lot. The building looks over a hundred years old with a nice small bar as you walk in with a tin ceiling. They have a small dining room with stone walls which just screams old. My service was great from the young woman who took care of me and she got a 34% tip, they were slow when I was there and she did a great job. They have two of my favorite foods baked French onion soup and smoked ribs. I started with a whiskey old fashioned sour which was decent. I ordered the full rack with Mac and Cheese and frys as my second side. I started with the baked French onion soup that looked amazing presentation wise. It was hot and cheesy with a decent amount of cheese, croutons and onions but very average because the broth had no depth of flavor at all. My food came pretty quick and it looked delicious. The frys were not seasoned and not cooked to order or sat to long because they had no crisp in them and they were not hot at all. The Mac and Cheese looked creamy with spiral pasts cooked past Al Dente but not to total mush and very average again with no big cheese flavor like it's made for the masses, Mac and Cheese needs bold flavors like aged/sharp to offset the bland macaroni in my opinion. The ribs on the other hand were very good and the star of my lunch. The ribs are always naked sauce on the side so I can taste how good or bad they are. The sauce was ok but I didn't use much of it because the naked ribs can hold their own. The ribs were tasty and seasoned nicely fall off the bone tender/moist with a good smoke flavor and better than average. I'm a BBQ hound and I get Bbq all over the country and I have seen this so many times and it's just part of Bbq which doesn't necessarily affect the review. Lots of Bbq places have really great meats and average sides which is ok in my opinion because I'm there for the smoked meat. Overall I enjoyed my Bbq rib lunch and I'm very glad that they were my new restaurant of the week so I would definitely go back the smoked meats. read more

HIDDEN GEM! Wow, what a great place. Very friendly staff and awesome food including house smoked BBQ. Great rustic decor and atmosphere.

Poor food and even worse customer service. Stopped here with friends and we were convinced that none of the bartenders or servers wanted to do their jobs. Not to mention it looks like no one regularly cleans the place. Visibly dirty floors and the bar was a mess. If you're considering stopping here for a bite or drinks I would suggest skipping it. You're better off stopping at a fast food place for better service and a cleaner environment. read more

This bar and smokehouse eatery was recommended to me by a nurse who really knew her food. My wife and I went for dinner on a Wednesday night, and it was really a mixed bag of emotions for both of us. The building is very old and very rustic. It has a very nice patio and is accessible. There is plenty of parking. Since I did not have any mobility equipment with me, we decided to get our food to go. I sat in the parking lot for my wife was going to go into the restaurant to pick up our food. The idea was to order it on their Internet ordering system. It failed. So, my wife decided to go in and order. Let's just get to the food. Each dinner entrée comes with two sides. Each sandwich comes with one side. I ordered a half rack of ribs with a side of their Carolina coleslaw and their barbecued baked beans. My wife ordered a pulled pork sandwich with the barbecued baked beans. She also ordered another side of baby russet potatoes. The entrée comes with a choice of three sauces of which I ordered none. I stuck with the basic rub. My wife ordered the barbecue pork sandwich on a pretzel bun. She was given barbecue sauce with her sandwich. The ribs are a very reasonable portion of baby back's and the rub that they use is excellent. Unfortunately, the ribs were not made that day nor do I believe that they were made the day before. They were a bit on the dry side, although they were excellent quality, but they tasted old and reheated. Coleslaw was extremely spicy, which is OK, but I don't like spicy coleslaw. They should at least acknowledge on the menu that this is a dish with some real heat. The beans were very flavorful, but again their age was felt in every bite. The sauce was extremely tight, and basically somewhat dehydrated. My wife's pork sandwich was very, very good, and the bun, of which you have a choice of three types, was also good. Her beans came from the same bat as mine. She added some of the barbecue sauce, which was excellent by the way to the beans to lose them up a bit. The big winner, though, with the potatoes that she ordered à la carte. They were cooked very well, and according they put on them is an extremely tasty rub. These are highly recommended. I don't know what to say. This restaurant has good chops, but you've got to go there when the food is fresh. I would suppose that they're doing a lot of cooking on a Friday or an early Saturday for the big crowd. I think they are doing themselves a disservice by serving what I'm going to call stale food. I think leftovers would be a more fair term. I don't appreciate paying retail for leftovers. The dinner bill was $47.00 and would've been worth it had the food been fresh. read more

I called ahead as my mom uses a walker and I wanted to be sure she could get into the restaurant. There's only one step in front and there is a path/ramp under the tent on the side. I was assured she could access the restaurant- not only that, they would set a table for 3 for us! When we arrived, the hostess and bartender met us at the front door and helped us in! Great customer service and we were off to a fabulous start! The food was delicious, we had pulled pork, sloppy Joe sandwich, and a tuna melt. Started off our dinner with onion strings and these were a generous portion. In fact, all of us had leftovers to take home! This day the restaurant had a fundraiser for a great cause, all proceeds from the carrot cake went to the cause. Omg, they should add the carrot cake to the menu- delicious! On the website it says place closes at 10:00pm. No where does it say kitchen closes at 8:00pm. We ordered drinks, received them and then asked for menus, it was 8:03pm. Bartender said 'Sorry kitchen is closed. I can get you some chips!' Mean while plates of food continue to come out of the kitchen for the next 20 minutes. Would have been nice to have a free drink or some sort of gesture to say sorry can't serve you any food. FIRST AND LAST TIME IN! read more

Really wanted to like this place as it's close to the new house.. unfortunately I can't recommend it.. I'm giving 2 stars because the waitress was AWESOME.. GREAT SERVICE and very helpful. The food was a 1-2 star max.. Started with the breaded mushrooms which were big as advertised, but rather burnt and flavorless (they do have a good ranch) We both had the all you can eat ribs. Sadly, they were obviously yesterday's cooking.. dry and very over cooked. My sides were decent.. good sweet potato fries and decent beans . The plain fries were decent, but mac n cheese was again old, somehow dry, and not even warm enough to melt the shredded cheese tossed on top. I really hoped I'd found a be regular spot, but I don't see myself ever going again or recommending it to anyone read more

After a shopping trip to Cabela's, we searched the Yelp app and Sloppy Joe's seemed the most promising in the immediate area, and we enjoyed it! Multiple staff were welcoming, friendly. We chose dining area seating, although the bar area seemed friendly, and highly engaged in a Packer game on one of their many TVs. We went with the sloppy joe with tots and the pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato fries. I think only later did the waitress tell us about them being known for their brisket. (I coulda had a V8!) The pulled pork was great! The sauce was unique, and the sweet potato crinkle fries were out of this world. Their namesake sandwich was just okay- green peppers, mild seasoning, no sauce- I like a saucy sloppy joe. We really enjoyed our visit, and want to come back while in the area for that brisket. Cute place. Great service. Ryan was our server. He was great. Smoked wings were so good. Brisket was a little dry... really wish restaurants would learn that the flavor is in the fat, chop it all up together for a blister brisket... that's how it's done in the south!! Good flavor though. Since the night 21 years ago while we were exploring for fun new places to go out in the boonies and we wandered in here and played bar dice for shots with the bartender, Sloppy Joe's has been our "Cheers." 21 years later, we live out here and are only a little more than a mile from the bar we call one of our top 3 favorites. We're here probably 2 or 3 times a month. The owners rock, the staff is awesome, and even though it's a bar, the food is better than many places that consider themselves primarily a restaurant. Every item on their menu is excellent. Great burgers, excellent fish fries (perch is THE BEST anywhere) and their brisket is some of the best in the area (they smoke their own). read more

My favorite dive in the Germantown/Richfield area. They have amazing barbecue and bar food. This is a favorite stop for my family after church on Sundays. I feel like we always happen to have the same server every time we go in, so I can't speak for the service as a whole, but our waiter is always friendly and attentive and quick! I love salads, especially ones that have so many toppings that they barely qualify as salads anymore, which is why I ordered the Southwest Pulled Pork Salad off of their summer specials menu. The salad was served with a generous portion of delicious smoked pulled pork, corn and black bean salsa, haystack onion rings, cornbread croutons, and a SIDE of southwest dressing. Love when dressing comes on the side. I could have done without the cornbread croutons which were oddly cold and soft and didn't contribute much but they were easy enough to pick around. The rest of the salad was great. This is a great place for groups, to get a good Sunday Bloody Mary, and especially for some good ol bar food. Give it a try. read more

I've been wanting to come here for a long time and finally made it last night. Truth be told, I've actually been in this building before. It has been here for at least 100 years, probably more, and has been a night spot or restaurant for as long as I can remember. That is also true of the more famous place across the street but that isn't the subject today. You enter into what appears to be a neighborhood bar that looks to be a comfortable place where everybody knows your name. Several regulars were in place at the bar. We were warmly greeted by the bartender who asked if we were there to dine, and then asked if we wanted to sit at the bar or if we wanted a table. We opted for a table. A friendly hostess/waitress then showed us to their intimate dining room and we were promptly seated. There are a limited number of tables and I suspect it would take longer to be seated on a busier night. We were promptly greeted by a friendly waitress with menus for us. She told us about the house specialties, brisket and ribs. We talked about the brisket and placed a bar order. She returned with our drinks and a small sample of the brisket for me to try. The sample was delicious and well prepared, but with my eating issues, It turns out brisket is not for me. (There is a hint of spice that my wussy tongue can't handle.) My dinner date, however, assured me the brisket is as delicious as promised and anyone with regular taste will love it. The dining room demonstrates the historical nature of the building. Brick and fieldstone walls with charming countryish decor welcome you, and a large flatscreen television, tuned to a sports network, lets you know it might be an old structure but this is a modern operation. There's not much to absorb sound so it can get a bit noisy. We ordered a half rack of ribs and the house specialty chicken pot pie. The pot pie has a wonderful, flaky crust, reminiscent of a croissant. One very refreshing thing about the pot pie is at many restaurants, you have to dig through the vegetables to find an occasional piece of chicken. At Sloppy Joe's, you have to dig through the pieces of chicken to find the vegetables! My dinner date reports the ribs are excellent, tasty, well prepared and the sauce is spicy and delectable. The half rack was served with baby baked potatoes with a maple bacon glaze and bourbon brazed carrot pearls. The carrot pearls are delightfully different. We were both too full to try their desserts, which have a great reputation. I may just go back sometime for a piece of carrot cake and a cup of coffee. We stopped in for a lunch on a Friday. Barely more than a handful of customers Ordered a fish fry and they had potato pancakes on the menu but had none on hand. The waiter had no clue how to do his job. Ordered a drink that was supposed to be 8.50 and we paid 18.00 because everything was an add on. We never caught it until we left. Food was disgusting and there is no point in adding any further comments. Will not return nor recommend this business. read more

We love Sloppy Joe's. We jump in the car and make the drive from Tosa on a regular basis. I can honestly say, we've never had a bad meal or service here. We both had burgers today- I had the Mushroom & Swiss w/fries and my guy had the Black and Bleu (which also has delicious and perfectly cooked Nueske's bacon) with tots. We both were feeling a little indulgent and kicked everything off with some Haystack Onions. God, they are always soooo good. Back to the meat. Both burgers were cooked to temp, moist and delicious. We stopped on a Saturday night for dinner and found a packed house. We waited about 40 minutes for a table; the hostess checked in with us frequently to give updates which I appreciated. Once seated our waitress was prompt. My husband ordered the French onion soup and a burger and I had just the burger, upgrading from chips to fries. The burgers arrived fairly quickly given how busy the kitchen was. This is a basic but good burger. They were both cooked to our desired doneness and came with the toppings we wanted. Unfortunately, my bun was terribly burned and inedible. The fries were good but I have to say, I kept sneaking chips off my husband's plate and kind of wished I had those instead. What is it about a well made house made chip that is so good? My husband's soup never arrived; he wasn't hungry enough to miss it but it would have been nice if our server had apologized for the oversight. Overall it was a good, basic bar meal and we'd stop again when we're in the area. read more

Another great place in Hubertus! The owner was awesome! Introduced himself to our group and was very gracious. We had cocktails and listened to some live music. We also had a chance to sample their brisket and it did not disappoint! The meat was tender (not dry) with a nice smoke ring. Great on its own but they also had a bbq sauce and a horseradish sauce that were delicious! We were out and about on 11 February and decided to stop at Sloppy Joe's based on a local Yelp search of the area. The building in which is named Sloppy Joe's has a really interesting past, you can read about it online or in the restaurant itself. The waitstaff and bartender were super nice and attentive. There are many intriguing options on the menu and daily specials that you can choice from as you like. My wife had the cheddar chicken breast burger with tots as a side, and she really enjoyed the sandwich and took the other half of the sandwich and the rest of the tots home to be reheated the next day. She would definitely come back for the sandwich, not to mention the cheese curds. Now onto the cheese curds, this was an excellent starter, even the table across the dining room agreed with our choice. If a regular gives it a thumbs up, than it is a go! Since we were at a restaurant titled Sloppy Joe's, I had to try their aptly name sandwich, and onion strings as a side. The pretzel bun was nice and soft and a good match for a sloppy Joe. As for the sloppy Joe, it was alright, and there was a lot of meat just not sloppy. As a personal preference, I like a wet and bold tasting sloppy joe--a two or three napkin event, but again that is a personal preference. Mistakes happen, but recovery is key. Ordered online , with expected pickup time of 7:15. Waited at bar until 7:40 for my order. Three different people told me order will be ready in few, ready in 5 minutes (told that twice), finally a manager told me 2 minutes, set his phone in front of me with timer going. His idea not mine. At 2:30 first of two orders came out so he stop his timer. Most importantly no one ever apologized or acknowledge the order was way past due, never offered a beer for the inconvenience, nothing. Finally, as I walked into the restaurant a couple was ordering their meal, as I left they were halfway through eating it, clearly the kitchen dropped the ball on my order. Again it happens, but the fact there was no apology speaks volumes. I am not going to be a repeat costume. read more
