My husband and I originally set out for red lobster on sweetest day 2011, but refused to sit out a 1 1/2 hour wait,So a friend suggested that we try Aliotos because they had seafood selections on the menu. Thank God we did! I ordered a seafood sampler tray which included a lobster tail, shrimp scampi, fish filet, scallops, and king crab legs, Yummy! The meal was accompanied by drawn garlic butter heated with a continuos flame, choice of potato, soup, and salad. for $30. this was a steal! I could not finish this large portion so I brought it home for a late night snack! My husband ordered the duck which we were amazed by the large portion size (a whole half of a duck) with the same accompaniments that I was served. He also raved about the flavors. His meal was $15.95. The service was fast, friendly and warm. Our waitress was attentive, yet not overbearing. We equally enjoyed our dining experience at Aliotos and will be returning for a repeat order! read more

I guess it's time for another review. I go to Alioto's periodically when I want that Italian supper Club feeling and last Saturday was no exception! The bar has that old time feeling and Mike who has seemingly been there forever, sling the drinks! From craft cocktails to wine or beer he is a master. I had the Ribeye special and it was fantastic!! It came with French Onion soup and salad and everything was wonderful. Now I admit the crowd skews a bit older, at 62 I feel a little bit like Cramer at( Del Boca Vista) but it's always fun. If you are a grandson, this is where you go to eat with your grandparents. And you'll be happy, trust me. I have been coming here for years with both sets of my grandparents. I'm down to just my 98 year old grandma now, and this is where we go about every 2-3 months. The waitress remembers us each time, include that my grandmother is blind and won't need a menu, and that she's diabetic so will need soup right away. We are always impressed. The food is great! It has an old-time supper club feel almost. Every time i go i get the Steak Romano which is amazing. comes with soup and a salad and a pasta side. my lord that's enough food for me to eat! There are always banquettes going on int he other rooms, I've only been in the main dining room which is filled with Christmas lights, white table cloths and candles at each table. I feel like I'm the youngest person by 30 years when i look around the dining room. But to be honest, what makes this place so great for me is that i get to spend time with my 98 year old grandmother and talk to her about the many stories she has about her life. I'm pretty confident I got the best service I've ever received in Milwaukee at Alioto's last night. We were originally planning on dining at Maggiano's Little Italy, but the 45 minute wait for a table was a little longer than we were willing to deal with. We were seated immediately at Alioto's. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and somewhat telepathic...I had things before I realized I actually wanted them. Strange, but incredibly nice. We snacked on some mozzarella logs before our meal...pretty good stuff. Our French onion soup was tasty without being overwhelming where sodium was concerned. My roommate has his 3rd martini ordered before dinner arrived, so I'm pretty sure he approved. Salads were...well...salads nothing special about them to mention. I had the cheese ravs, which were nothing to write home about. Same can be said for the red sauce, edible but nothing special.The meatballs were something worth mentioning though...so damned good. Moist and incredibly tasty! I followed my dinner with a cup o' joe and bowl of spumoni. Both exactly what I hoped to receive. Alioto's was an extremely pleasant experience. It's not a place you're going to bring a date to, nor is it a place to celebrate a special event. What it is though is a nice little supper club that serves a decent meal and leaves you feeling like your money was well spent. read more

This is definitely old time/old town Milwaukee. The fish is pretty good as long as you get the fried fish, you will be happy. Watch out for the baked cod it is way too dry. The people there are really old and they will give you an idea of what Milwaukee was like fifty years ago! I don't think they remodeled the place in the last 30 years. My sister says it's actually more like the last 50 years :-) I wish they would have had potato pancakes to accompany the fish. But, just go ahead and enjoy a classic Milwaukee fish frie! read more

Ive been going here since i was a child. Tonight, food was hot, however any concern of a pandemic was gone. Customers walked around freely with no thought of a mask in Milwaukee county. Staff worked their butts off to get customers the food with minimal support from the obvious management. Very disappointed. read more

Alioto's is a Milwaukee landmark, having served my grandparents years ago. It has a large senior's menu that for $12.95 offers soup or salad, entree with potato, ice cream and coffee. In addition, they gave us a card for $10 off at the next meal because of the nuisance of all the construction on Highway 100. The service is always great and the food is well-prepared. I've been here for banquets and private dinners. They have a very loyal clientele and a great separate bar room. read more

My wife and I had been at Aliotos in the past and really enjoyed ourself. Good food, good service. We went there Friday night September 24th and were extremely disappointed. There used to be a multiple page menu and many choices. We sat outside because of the virus danger. The seating was not very comfortable card table chairs The table was wobbly. The napkins were paper. The menu was one page which included lunch primary on one whole side. Besides the seafood which covered one whole side of the sheet, the other side had all lunch items except for 3 dinner choices. I understand that some modifications had to be made because of the virus scare but to go to only 3 choices besides fish was very disappointing. I realize the it was Friday fish fry night. I reserved Aliotos for a funeral luncheon. It was referred to me by Holy Cross Cemetery as a place that can accommodate large lunch groups. We had a group of approx 40 people and they handled the entire meal seamlessly. They had no problem with people moving around socializing and the server gave special attention to my young grandson, trying to keep him happy. I was very pleased with the service and the food. We selected a set menu and everyone seemed to like the food. Note that they do not take credit cards, only checks and cash. read more

My parents took my brother and I here when we were kids. About 12 years ago this was where we went to dinner when my parents met my boyfriend (now husband) for the first time. I thought it would be nice to go back and noticed that they have a gluten free fish fry option on Fridays. Hubby got that and said it was just ok. I got the chicken parmesan with pasta. It was ok - but the marinara/ pasta sauce was very basic/no real flavor besides plain old tomato -like it was out of a (cheap) jar. Hubby said his salad seemed like something you'd be served if it had been prepared that morning and then sat out all day....not fresh and crisp. Bread is not served warm nor is the butter so it's like slathering cold butter on basic grocery store white bread. I was underwhelmed by the food considering the prices and then there was the service and the decor. Our table was under a very large hanging light fixture.... which had 3 huge dust bunnies just barely holding onto it. Our server, while polite, was slow....the kitchen was even slower. It took about an hour and a half to get through our meal and more than an hour of that was waiting for drinks/waiting for our order to be taken/waiting (and waiting and waiting) for our food/ waiting for the bill / waiting for the waiter to pick up our credit card for payment. Also, I noticed that the average age of the other patrons was about 75...... my husband and I are in our 30s and felt very out of place. read more

Last night we opted for Alioto's because there have been very good reviews on the fish fry. I had visitors in town from Australia and we wanted the best fish fry for our last dinner. The six of us were seated immediately and had a great first impression of the establishment and our server. However, from that point forward, our experience became worse and worse. Long story short, they had a large party which bogged down the kitchen and wait staff. Four of us got the family style fish fry. When the food arrived, we had one platter of fish and chips to share. It would be nearly a half hour before we saw our server again. Prior to this, we did not receive two soups and two salads. Our drinks were empty -- water and soft drinks -- and we began receiving fries and fish about 10 minutes apart from each other. We didn't initially receive tartar sauce or lemon either. I will say that the fish was very good and the fries were satisfactory as well. However, their "famous" potato pancakes were rushed and undercooked. I was also surprised to find that they weren't served with syrup or anything else. The final point of dissatisfaction was that soft drinks were not listed on the menu. Thus, we assumed that like most establishments, refills were complimentary. Unfortunately not. Each average-sized glass was $2.50. I'm sorry to say that the $115 spent at Alioto's was a terrible waste and our party left quite disappointed. In my opinion, if you're unable to serve other guests (and we DID have a reservation) due to a large party, please increase staff or don't accept other reservations during that time. The food is OK. The fish fry is about average! The atmosphere is that of a high school cafeteria...this is no exageration! They aren't skilled at the art of making cocktails...they serve a martini in a tub glass over ice...not a martini...sorry! Depending on what you order, the prices are average, to high. The wait staff is O.K., considering they have to squeeze between tables in some areas. There is never an atmosphere of relaxation...it's hurry up...eat...get out! So if you are in the mood for a good tasting meal, with no atmosphere, and you feel like you are on an assembly line...Alioto's is the place! read more

This was our first trip to Alioto's and it was not a particularly pleasant experience. Our waiter was either brand new or completely inept. He brought the wrong salad for my fiancee, couldn't tell us about the menu items, called the soup du jour "Spaghetti-O's for adults," forgot to bring me my glass of wine, and never once refilled my water glass. This was a celebratory dinner we were having after closing on our first house. I wanted it to be a wonderful evening and we had even dressed all fancy for the occasion. While it didn't ruin the night, I was certainly put off and my desire to attend the restaurant again is quite low. Our first trip was likely our last. read more

I really wish I could give less than 1 star - but one star was the lowest. We met our family at Alioto's on Good Friday - we were seated in the BACK of the restaurant away from the other patrons. After we had had ordered our first round of the family style fish fry the waitress said you have exceeded your limit of fish. I asked for a copy of the menu and when another wait staff brought the menu back he said "I know what you are looking for. The menu doesn't state all you can eat or that there is a five piece limit per person." I informed him that our waitress should have said that when we ordered or the cheap a@@ owner should print new menus indicating the fish limit. After an additional confrontation with a manager; who felt that we did not hear the waitstaff the first time when she said we had reached our limit, he came to tell us the same thing. By this time I was extremely pissed and told him to walk away and get our check before we really act up in the restaurant. The wait staff felt it necessary to tell the new table next to use (another black family) that the fish limit was 5 pieces per person, but neglected to tell the table full of white patrons the 5 piece limit. Needless to say I will not be returning to ALIOTO's and I hope that many others don't and this old run down restaurant can close their doors for good. read more

When I first walked in I was not greeted whatsoever but rather asked by an older blonde lady "Can I help you?", as if I was there to do something else besides eat. The waiter, an older man, came over without greeting me and told me the soups of the night. When my friend arrived, he came over and took our order. My friend (a vegetarian) asked for the pasta especial without meat and he immediately and very rudely said "no meat? It's going to cost you the same!". He made me feel like we couldn't or didn't want to pay. When he brought out my friend's dinner he completely moved her salad over (which she had just started to eat) to place her pasta, instead of placing it next to it. My Italian sandwich had pretty much two whole brats with onions and peppers. I had to cut the brats so that they'd lay flat so that I can eat it. My friend's mostaciolli was bland pasta with what looked like jarred tomato sauce poured over it. It had no color, texture or seasoning. He never brought our check over so I ended up going to ask for it at the desk. It was very obvious that he only treated us like that because he was conversing, laughing and spending time with the rest of his tables. No, he did not need to converse with us but he did however need to treat us with respect. I have never used the "race card" but we were the only minorities (Mexican and Black) in the dining room, so was it because of the color of our skin? The stereotypes that surround us? Little does he know that we're both college graduates and professionals. I left your establishment feeling awful! I e-mailed the restaurant to share my experience and have not heard back. read more

This is my first time posting . I was looking forward to trying out this supper club . Thinking it's been around for some time. My first impression entering old time 90's decor, white linen table clothes,dim lit lighting , pleasantly decorated for Christmas season, and easy listening music. Maybe 4 other tables dining . We told our server it was our first time there and mentioned we were celebrating a birthday . The menu selection was rather small .I ordered 6 oz filet and 4 grilled shrimp ,with parlsy red potato( server recommended) and French onion soup. Husband had half rack ribs , French fries ( the only 2 choices for potatoes)and the French onion soup. I thought the soup was "ok". Could have been hotter and not exactly impressed , wondering if I should have ordered salad . Only had like four dressing choices , none I really wanted. Meal came with basic sliced white bread . Filet was cooked medium as I ordered. Lacked seasoning and flavor , came with sautéed mushrooms and au jus. Those also lacked flavor . The 4 medium shrimp were overly seasoned that they were very salty . The potatoes ended up being plain over boiled red potatoes . My husband thought his ribs had a strong flavor that he did not care for. They were tender nor were they dry. Came with very small portion French fries . We had only water to drink. We over heard the table next to us mention the lady could not even chew her roast beef sandwich . Their waitress graciously offered to take it off the bill. I did notice the husband did not eat much of his food nor did he want to take home . No we did not complain . Earlier first time stopped and checked out rays butcher shop. Thought between the $57 lunch and $ 13 tip . Upon leaving , ray's would have been a better choice, for us. read more

Yes, ONE STAR for the mighty Aliotos.... And oh, how the mighty have fallen. After our most recent - and last - experience here, we will never go back. My mother in law called a month in in advance to reserve a table for our family dinner on December 23rd. My husband and I arrived first, only to find they had no reservation. Somehow it never got written down. You'd think at that point, when my husband and I were standing in front of her and requested to have our name put down, she would have, right? No, she didn't! The woman kept asking our name ("Smith, party of 4? Are you Witner, party of 7? Jones, party of 8, is that you?"), but didn't write it down when we (repeatedly) told her. This isn't a guessing game. Did she forget her meds that day? How hard is it to remember a (somewhat) common last name and number of people, or to write it down when we requested it to be? When our in-laws came, she STILL didn't write it down. When my mother in law heard about the debacle, she had the woman check for the other reservations they made for Christmas Day. Yes, they had the reservations down in their name for that day. Thank God. There was a point we were thinking of just walking out of the restaurant at this point and finding another place to go. Good thing it wasn't that busy at Alioto's that night, since we had spent about 20 minutes at the reservation station at that point! Sheesh. The evening started out on a bad foot and continued to go downhill from there. We were placed at a table back in the far corner, in no-mans land. There were several open tables which would have sufficed. I'm really not sure what that was about. We didn't request a private area - the area we were seated at was more akin to a wedding rehearsal dinner. Now... the process of ordering proved to be a difficult one. 30 minutes after being seated, the waitress finally came by to take our DRINK orders. Yes, we didn't even get our food orders in at this point! I ordered a drink that was apparently a summer drink (which I didn't know at the time). The print on the drink menu said it was from the previous summer, but she still presented it to us, so I felt it was ok to order off of. This created a big issue. The waitress didn't believe my drink was on the menu. She didn't even know what my drink was. She came back several times to check exactly what it was - for a seasoned vet, as she appeared to be, this was really perplexing and disappointing. Not to mention embarrassing, since I just wanted a drink at that point! Next time around I got a brandy old fashioned - about the only thing she did right. My mother in law had to repeatedly ask to see a senior menu. It took 3 times for the waitress to bring it. This is just unacceptable. On a BUSY day, I can understand. The restaurant was less than a third full though! There were hardly any people dining that night and the lack of the professionalism on Alioto's part was frustrating. Finally, we got our food. It took an hour just to get our order in!! This was a ridiculously long time to get any sort of service at all despite slow night at the restaurant. Wow. The food itself was good - albeit not that hot. It was probably waiting on a counter to be brought to our table. Once again, prior to receiving our food, we had considered leaving $20.00 on the table for the drinks and just walking out. Now comes time to get the bill. IT TOOK ANOTHER 30 MINUTES TO GET OUR BILL! My husband and I had to leave, as we had to work the next day. Unfortunately our in-laws had to wait to get the bill...30 minutes later. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE, ALIOTO'S! I've never experienced such horrendous and unacceptable service. We laid down the law and said going forward, we will never do Christmas dinner (or Easter, or any other family dinner) here ever again. Alioto's was once a go-to place for family dinners, funerals, etc - never again, at least not for me. This once great Italian family style restaurant / supper club has now been replaced with places that can provide service the right way. Maggianos, although a chain, is right down the street. Next time, we'll just make our reservations there and be done with it. read more

I created a yelp account strictly to express how disappointing this restaurant was. At around $20 a plate you expect a pretty great meal. I had the salmon on pasta and it was dry with what seemes like bland canned sauce that was barely warm. My husbands prime rib was half fat and wasnt trimmed at all. When asking the waitress about the steak all she says is thats how ita suppose to come. We had a party of 12 and every single plate had a nasty garnish of thinly sliced oranges and a leaf of romaine lettuce. Why?? Another member of our group asked for her burger well done it came rare and some one elses duck was suppose to medium and was well done. Not worth the money. read more

Well let me start from the beginning. We arrived at 1:15 as we had Reservations for 1:30, at least we thought so. After repeatedly approaching the reservation desk and checking in we were finally seated at 1:50. This is after seeing people arrive long after us and be seated immediately. I guess it helps to know the staff. Cocktails were brought but we were never asked if we cared for another the entire time. Turkey dinner "special" was something that resembled something you would get in a T.V. dinner. Cold, bland, canned gravy. Two of us ordered the stuffed cornish hen, what a mistake. One was plump but the second was very over baked. Skin was shriveled meat was dry stuffing outside of bird was burnt. The bird seriously looked as though someone had stepped on it, or maybe drove over it. Road Kill? Sweet potatoes out of a can, Really!? Yes they did remove one of the meals from the bill, but did not offer any apologizes. After the bill was brought to me, I had to remind them that dessert was included in the meal which was not offered until we asked. Never again will I or let anyone I know enter this establishment again. McDonald's would have been better, too bad they were closed. Alioto's should do the same....... read more

I've always loved Alioto's fish fry, but this Saturday I used Alioto's to cater an event. The guests had 2 choices -- Steak & Shrimp or Chicken Parmesan. Both were amazing! Tons of compliments from the guests. But most importantly to me, they were so accommodating re: guest count. Like any event, people were last minute, and the staff at Alioto's kept helping me with logistics. We had extra guests show up that didn't RSVP, and the team from Alioto's went back to the restaurant to get more food. I have never heard of that, and would never expect that kind of service. OUTSTANDING. I would highly recommend Alioto's catering. read more

I had the worst lunch ever in Milwaukee at Alioto's this week. French onion soup with no melted cheese. Scallops that tasted frozen and were almost all breading. When I cut open the first one, a gush of oil spilled out of it -- really gross. Only good part were the masked potatoes. read more

Every time I go here, I feel like I bring the average age down about 15 years at least. It's definitely a crowd more for the senior citizens, but my parents like the fish fry, so I go with them once in a while. The fish fry is good, but avoid the salmon - the one time I got it, it was like soggy. Not sure what they did to it, but not good. Waitstaff is pretty slow and there can be a wait, but try the bar area if you don't mind not sitting in the normal dining area and you can usually get a table faster. read more

We love Alioto's fish fry. We have tried other establishments for a fish fry but always return to Alioto's because we know we will be satisfied. Bread is always fresh, slaw, tartar sauce & fries are delish. We also love their Wine & Pizza deal for $35 (not on Friday). You can chose your wine and cork up if not finished by the end of your visit. Pizza is thin crusted and served with delicious garlic bread & salad with choice of dressing. You can't go wrong. The staff is friendly & experienced and we have always received excellent service! Thank you all for your hard work, especially on those busy Fridays. read more

This is yet another long-time stand-by for my husband's Italian-American family. He says he's been to the Alioto restaurant after every family funeral; their facility includes several banquet halls. But the way we use/know them is for their Friday fish fry. We've had it for take-out a couple of times, and for the money, you can't beat the amount of food they cram into the styrofoam to-go box. They include quite a few chunks of lightly battered cod and a huge portion of fries in the box, as well as a separate small container of very fresh coleslaw. It's an impressive amount of food, which, despite the fact that they don't take phone orders is worth the few minutes' wait by their front entry. read more

We had our wedding reception here, 9 years ago. I received a call from them on our drive home from our honeymoon. They asked were our cake was from, it was so good. I thought it was odd at 8:30 AM. A half hour later the health department called regarding multiple complaints, requesting our guest list for the investigation. The end result was over half our guests very sick, missing work and a few elderly guests hospitalized. Aliotas never said a word, they clearly knew what was happening. No follow up, no attemp to remedy, nothing. While I realize it can happen anyplace I would have expected them to act in a concerned, professional manner. They were unresponsive and rude. This was the restaurant chosen for a dinner after a family member's funeral. I had never been here before. The interior is dated and tired, diners were all over the age of 65. The waitresses are incredibly rude and they all have MAJOR attitudes. Did they not know they were serving people who were just moments ago viewing their loved one for the last time? They could have shown a bit more care and kindness to us. Instead, our dinner plates were literally thrown at us (landing on top of the silverware), glasses were filled under waterfalls of splashing water, glasses were sticky and visibly dirty, plates were snatched before the food was finished and the food...definitely mediocre...at the very best. It's a wonder this place has been around as long as it has with the poor service and less than stellar food. read more

Very good food. Very good. Very nice staff except for a couple lazy ladies that may or may not be there anymore, and I have eaten here many of times whether it be a duo, trio, or large groups so I have seen almost all staff members. The reason I had to knock down a star in this review is due to the fact the dishes/plates are overpriced for what you receive, most of the time. This is me not being cheap, as I have eaten at the finest of restaurants to the hole in the walls, some of the best places in my opinion. Again, it is very good, but this is mostly a place where older folks eat, and locals/friends of this extremely established restaurant frequent on a regular basis. Like cheers, they know your name. Which speaks volumes to their customer service. There is a hot chick that I think runs the place now and I won't mention her name, but she could get the strap... on. Circling back, great food, great staff except for a small few older lazy women, and slightly overpriced dishes. We decided to give Alioto's a try for a Friday fish fry yesterday. There were three of us: my husband, our friend and myself. We arrived around 7 and decided to eat at the bar. Our bartender got us our drinks pretty quickly, but never asked if we'd be dining, so we asked for menus. About twenty minutes later we had to ask him for another drink and ask if we could order. He said someone would be out to take our orders. He then set placemats and silverware in front of us, and a woman delivered bread, but no butter, then vanished before we could place orders. After asking repeatedly to order, we gave up and asked for our drink tab to be closed out, as it had been an hour and still no one had taken our order. If the food is good at Alioto's, we never got that far. We will not be back to find out. read more

I had the most amazing lunch ever at my favorite restaurant, Alioto's today. I had pan fried walleye pike served with potato pancakes and coleslaw. Kudos to the chef Patrick Lathon for the most delicious potato pancakes I've ever eaten, they're made from scratch and were the perfect side to go with the fresh and delicate pan fried walleye pike. The service was fantastic (thanks Cindy Reyes) and I was feeling special and loved by all the employees: wait staff, busboy, cooks, hostess, head chef, and the owner Tom Warren and his son Michael.
