I love this place ..if you know about trinitarian culture you should understand that being polite isn't their priority but having, but cooking well, treating you into a spice and variety if meals it's definitely their goal. I love the pelau and my mom always enjoy the ox tail dish, but my family favorite has always been the Roti.. it's part of our culture the spicier the better. But it has options for everyone to enjoy. Sure it's always pack it's terrible to find a parking spot .. but it worth the effort just to enjoy a savory and fulfilling meal. I've had great. that wasn't it. there was a certain umph missing from the food. and customer service usually isn't A1 at foreign establishments so... & I also tasted Sorrel for the first time. it was bottled though... so probably not the best stuff. I heart roti. I heart goat(s) both to pet and to eat. Ordered a chix roti, and a goat/rice & peas dish. Ali's roti was alright, I wouldn't kick it out of bed, but I wouldn't invite it home to meet the parent either. I think that the roti and I just didn't make a love connection- this is peculiar because again, I heart roti. The goat was fantastic. Every forkful of goat-cabbage-rice & peas made me want more. I'm a New York born cat with a Caribbean background so of course I love me some roti. I've had better in New York but Ali's is the best roti spot I know of in Boston. The boneless curry chicken with chickpeas, brown rice and beans, and curry potatoes are always a safe but delicious choice to make. I want to be a little daring and probably put some mango or try something else. I'm a little iffy on the beef and goat. I think it's hard to mess up chicken so I just the chicken. Usually a large roti costs about 9.50 I think so not too bad. read more

I decided to try this place immediately after landing in Boston. Straight from the airport to this place. So many food options but I always wanted to see what a 'roti' was about. I original came in wanting oxtails but it is not available on Wednesdays. I tried the chicken roti. I told the young lady who made the order that it was my first time as she asked me what I wanted inside. She stated the traditional way its made and I told her go for it. It was so big that I asked her how she was gonna close it. When I picked up the bag from the counter, it was so heavy, totally unexpected (They may want to put a disclaimer so you don't drop it as that would be a tragedy). When I got home and opened it up, the presentation was beautiful and when I took the first bite, it was so flavorful. I'm not even halfway through and I'm really full. I think this location of Ali's is the best. Right at Blue Hill Ave and Morton, just double park the car and run on in. My favorite is the shrimp roti with extra steamed vegetables and pepper sauce. For about $6-$8 you'll get two meals out of these bad boys. If you're not familiar with rotis, they are a Caribbean "burrito" made with naan-like Indian flatbread and curried meat and vegetables, usually goat, beef, shrimp, fish or chicken. read more

Ali's is a gem!! I LOVE this place and when I get down to the area its a must. The goat roti is my favorite item but you have a choice of chicken and fish also. They also have an incredible Caribbean vegetable meal which will blow your socks off...its a hole in the wall but you will leave satisfied. The meat is tender and sweet and the dough from the roti will melt in your mouth. I have to say I have never had a bad meal from Ali's. For Trinidadian food DON'T go anywhere else! :-) read more

This spot used to get high marks from me but due to my last visits to the Tremont spot at Ruggles and the spot in Mattapan at Blue Hill Av and Morton St. I am very disappointed in Ali's Roti. On Thursday Feb 14th I visited the Tremont shop and saw a sign posted stating the hours have changed during the winter season. OK. But I was there on one of the days and during a time when it should've been open, but it wasn't. And the girl was just sitting at one of the booths reading a magazine. On Wednesday Feb. 20th I went to the Mattapan spot. It closes at 9pm. I got there at 8:50pm and all the food was put away. One of the workers asked me if I had called and I said no. So I got nothing. Whoever owns Ali's Roti needs to re-prioritize. Business survival today depends greatly on SERVICE and Ali's Roti doesn't seem to care to provide any even during business hours. Sad. read more

Ali's has a delicious dhalpuri roti skin and he fills it with flavorful curry chicken, potatoes, and all the hot sauce you can tolerate! She has no class and no sense of what professionalism or customer service is. I will not spend another dime in a place that don't know how to speak to their customers.
