2/10 Terrible experience. We were excited to try a new place and were extremely disappointed. The food wasn't the problem, it was ok, the oxtail and fufu were good! I've had better though. The ginger juice was yum! What made it bad was the fact we had to wait over an hour to get our food. We also had to ask multiple times for water and our waiter would just not bring anything. Amazing takeout spot if you're willing to try African food they have Fūfu, fried rice, and Jalloh and many more options. This is my second time trying Safari and I loved it! The food is delicious. The lamb spelled and tasted roasted, well seasoned. The jollof rice had the perfect amount of spice. The plantains weren't overripe or too greasy. The goat pepper soup had depths of flavor. It looks like a plain broth but, as a Jamaican, I'll be back for more. This is my favorite spot for West African food in Boston, and possibly New England. Went back recently for the third time and the food did not disappoint! Everything is delicious, and the service is great- it is a small family owned and run restaurant. This place is small (4 tables) and takes quite awhile for the food to arrive, but brings in a lot of kick and value. I really enjoyed the jollof rice with lamb ($16) and my friend got the jollof rice with fried fish (decently sized whole fish for $15). The food was ready in time (big plus if you are familiar with west African restaurants), large portions and the sweet plantains were very good. The jollof rice was rich and salty and fatty, and the lamb was seriously to die for, fresh fried and spicy as hell. The friend plantains and salsa added great sweetness and acidity. I ordered the cheb chen (jollof rice with fish and vegetables), the portions were very small for the price. The food is very well seasoned, big piece of fish... Spicy and very yummy. My only issue is the size is very small. Otherwise, I could eat this dish for lunch and dinner. And their vegetables are very tender. read more

There was in my food, which is disgusting in itself even more so that it's a global pandemic. Proper precautions aren't being taken here if employees were wearing a mask, gloves, and hair nets in the first place this wouldn't have happened. Not to mention they did enforce a person limit. Not a thing to complain about - well, I wish their hot sauce was more spicy, but that's because I use ghost peppers as a warm up...so that's more a me thing. A good friend of mine told me about an African spot that just opened up and I was excited. She told me the owner was really nice and he let her try a taste before she purchased. She said her food was really good. I was just glad there is an African spot that opened in this area. We have everything else, just not that. Me and my bf went in and we told him our friend told us about the place. He has a few dishes out behind a low window where you can see everything. BF saw the Cassava leaf and he ordered that. It comes with white rice. Tasty as ever and authentic as the owners are originally from there. The owner explained a few of the dishes to me and persuaded me to try the fish (Attheke). I was a little leary because I normally don't eat any fish unless it's fillet. He told me not to worry about the bones. When I got home and started to eat it was the best fish I've ever eaten. I was able to rip the bones right out. The fish was nice and crispy on the outside and the inside was nice and flaky. Couscous was cooked perfectly and that onion & tomato topping just threw it over the top! Amazing! My BF also got a bottle of homemade ginger beer and that was tasty as well - strong, yet tasty! Prices are what is expected these days. This is not your typical "fast food". You will pay an average of $13 a dish, but it's as close to home cooked as you can get and worth every penny. The place is small, yet clean and very welcoming. Owners personalities are great as well. They want you to feel cozy. Don't be afraid to ask about any of the dishes. If you're not afraid of trying new things or you just want some good authentic african, go for it! We came to Boston for our son's college graduation at Gordon college, Wenham, MA in May. We ordered large pans of Jollof rice, plantains, fish and lamb, all of them were delicious and kept well in the fridge for about 3 days. We had guests from California, New York and New Hampshire, all stayed in vacation home and needed to just warm the food and eat any time one of us was hungry, no hassle for ordering or going to restaurants. It was OK. First experience with non-Ethiopian African food. I love Ethiopian plates, but didn't really dig the West African cuisine - that doesn't reflect on the restaurant as such. Also, avoid if you're a vegetarian - there's literally like one dish you can have (jollof rice with sweet plantains). This restaurant is Amazing. I usually order the same two meals because I can't bring myself to try other for fear of missing out on these two dishes. Attieke with fish and a side salad of cucumbers, tomatoes and fresh sliced onions. Jollof rice with fish and a side of plantains. The rice is cooked and seasoned perfectly. The portions are huge. You are given a whole fish that can easily be eaten in one sitting but if you can control yourself save some for the next day. Easily two meals but you may not be able to stop. When they opened a few years ago. I was excited! A new African restaurant on my route in and out of Dorchester. I walked in and was hopeful that the food was good. The family that owns this restaurant is fantastic. And the food worth my 45 min commute. Now I will drive just to get my fix from them. And the food remains just as good as the day they open. And we all know that is rare. It's nice to walk into a place and they are consistently warm and cozy. It's a rainy day as I write this and I look at my son and said I want African food.... Update: my recent order was not that great. My son said ma where did you get that food it was not good. And I felt the same way. I'm disappointed. Hopefully it was an off day for them.
