Dr Alexander is the best vet. She has treated all our pets for many years. She is very kind and is very perceptive with the pets. We had to let go of one of our kitties at a young age due to an aggressive cancer (due to an issue with her spine we could not amputate to save her). Dr Alexander and her team were so compassionate. Another dental cleaning, and I feel much better about little Mia's teeth. She has a small mouth and her breed is prone to dental disease. She lives with my parents who are retired and aren't the best at brushing, especially those back teeth. Mia gets her dental cleanings with Dr Venkhat, and her teeth are porcelain after! She tolerates the anesthesia well, and they also kindly trim her nails and give her vaccines while she's asleep, so we can minimize vet visits. Dr Venkhat also recently treated Mia's UTI. His practice partner, Dr Meredith, who is super sharp and kind, updated me on Mia's results and steps moving forward. Mia has recovered well from her UTI. I have MetLife pet insurance, and Dr Venkhat's office has always provided me prompt copies of the documents I need to submit for insurance reimbursement. They aren't in network directly with any outside pet insurance, but they do have some of their own plans, including a wellness plan that looks like it actually is a better deal than MetLife's. (I stick with MetLife because I get it through my work benefits). The office staff always coddles and spoils my fur baby, and Dr Venkhat's expert skills as a vet make me reassured that Mia is in good hands when she's not feeling well! I have had Mr. Cheeto for 7yrs 8months. He was seen by a vet in Dublin but now that I have a better insurance I'm able to take him to Alisal Pet Clinic. I was quoted for his teeth cleaning. I was worried that he might have something wrong as his gums started to show discolor but Dr, VK said its all good. Mr. Cheeto was kindly greeted by the Vet Tec Eric and the front desk staff was also very kind. Thank you for taking such good care of my Cat. He means the world to me and you treated him like family. Dr. Sai lead me to his clinic and I had to take her in a year later for health issues. I feel a gentle vibe from the staff and doctor Sai. I called Eric 4 times to ask questions for home care and he patiently helped me. The whole team is hands on and helpful. They are not cold and I don't see them hurting my cat when I'm not around. That is my fear. I'm traumatized and paranoid from previous experiences. So grateful I found them to take care of my beloved cat she is 14 and gets treated like the sweet princess she is when she's at this clinic. She will take her time making sure my pup is relaxed, yet all the while she contorts her own body to make sure my dog gets her vitals and shots. Thank you!! All the staff here are wonderful except for one rude lady at the front desk. Last visit I entered the office she looked me straight in the eye, said nothing, got up and shuffled papers in the backroom for a minute and returned to her desk and eventually said "NAME!" or something rude like that lol. Working at a dog daycare we require vaccination records to be sent either by the pet parent or vet. When calling to get updated records, we were refused to get records sent over since the receptionist said they have sent them already. I asked her which day it was sent only to be dismissed by her. She said she didn't want to keep sending it to multiple places. Very unprofessional. read more

Personally, I prefer Dr Alexander over Dr VK. I felt the latter was pushing for additional treatments that weren't critical and it just felt a little sales-y. We have seen Dr Alexander a couple of times now and she has been great. She's very direct, straightforward, doesn't beat around the bush. I like that. Also a shout out to Christina - she's amazing. The staff and Doctor are extra knowledgeable and responsive when you need any assistance with your pets. I cant thank Dr Kuncharapu enough for stress the importance of pet insurance and how much I could save for the care of my pets. I have had insurance every since. I absolutely love this clinic. Been using it since 2006. The vet I'm seeing is Dr. Meredith Alexander. She goes out of her way and out of her office hours to make sure my dogs get what they need. That including calling around and working with other third parties for my dog. The staff are really nice and they always follow up after major service or surgery. Besides that the doctor rescued few dogs she found wandering around and put them in good homes (I'm one of the homes) So she does really care about the animals' welfares. Plus she knows little ASL (sign language) so that's a bonus. read more

Our Dog Riley has chronic bronchitis. It took us $4000, 3 vets and exploratory procedure to get diagnosed. During that tough time we grew to really love and respect Dr. T. He always was kind and went out of his way to help keep charges minimal. Last week I scheduled an appointment at Alisial to get Rileys shots and med refills. Dr. T is no longer there (They say Mondays) but I think that is just so we stay. 1st when I went to schedule appointment I was hung up on apparently they are learning how to use the phone. Then I was told I could drop off my dog but I would be charged boarding fee even though he was only there for a few hours. But if he made to much noise I would need to come get him. I had asked that his nails be cut. I was told $21!! Dr. T had been cutting his nails for free during visits. It should be no more then $10!!! We were there already and I did not want to stress my dog out again so I agreed to the $21 just to pick him up and see that they did not even bother to cut them. We were told that Riley would need a $55 exam to check him before any RX given even though he has been diagnosed with a chronic condition and he will nee the same meds for the rest of his life. We said ok. When I went to pick him up the Vet had nothing to say about the exam or my dogs health just that he could use a teeth cleaning and I should buy there package deal. When I went to check out the price was way more then I had ever paid. The receptionist informed me the Dr.T had not updated his pricing in years so the new vet did. Riley had gotten 3 shots that day the vet did not explain about the shots or side effects nothing. I asked the receptionist and she handed me a pamphlet. If you are like me and have been going to Alisal because you felt like Dr. T treated your animal with love and kindness and made you feel like your fur babies were more then just a paycheck then dont go to this new Vet. If I could give a negative star I would. Worst experience I have ever had with a Veterinary Clinic. I just called in at 5:55 pm in regards to Lola, my dog, that I had brought in 2 days ago. Dr. ALexander saw Lola and said that she had bladder stones and put her on some medication as well as antibiotics. Well earlier today I had found some blood in Lola's urine and I was concerned and wanted to call the Doctor to see if that was normal with her being on the prescribed medication. I called in at 5:55pm and Jessica picked up the phone. Told her that there was blood in the urine and she put me on hold to consult with the doctor. Well Jessica did not put me on hold and I could hear her discussing with Dr. Alexander on what was going on. Dr. Alexander had said that we are closed have him call back tomorrow. Just leave him on hold for a just a little bit longer and act like we are doing something. She also said that I was a A&*%$^ because I was questioning her all the things that were recommended for treatment on the day of our visit. I hear Jessica and Dr. Alexander laughing at my expense while I am calling in genuinely concerned about Lola. Jessica gets back on the phone and tries to tell me that the doctor has left for the day. I immediately lay into her telling her to put the Doctor on the phone now. Dr. Alexander gets on the phone and tells me that it has been a long day and that she could be home right now. It is 6 pm when she says this and I have a legitimate concern. Alisal Pet Clinic has taken over $500 from me and the website says they are open to 6pm. I am telling her how unprofessional she is and how embarrassing it is to run practice like that. She then hands the phone over to Jessica and Jessica starts to apologize. Are you serious???? Yesterday Dr. Alexander calls me saying that we need to run diagnostic on Lola's urine. Sending the urine to the lab cost $85 bucks which I paid. I had already paid ~$291 in total the day earlier for the doctor's visit. Yesterday she says we need to run tests on the urine to determine what bacteria and so forth is in it so that they can recommend the right medication for Lola. That would cost and additional ~ $264. But on her visit I was quoted ~$306 for the whole thing. I have the quote printed out as well. So I told them $265 + $84 is more then the $306. It's actually about $348 bucks. Dr. Alexander tells the receptionists (Christina) on that day that because I had declined the full analysis the day prior it costs more now because it was a combo package. I mean okay, I was thrown off but I still paid. Now after this fiasco, and utter unprofessionalism by Dr. Alexander and Jessica for fumbling the phone call, all you had to do was press hold and you would of done wonders for both patient and clinic, I wonder who will call me to tell me the next steps after they get the diagnostics for the urine back. They were so eager to get my money over the phone but offer no customer service. Now I need to switch veterinary clinics. Do not go here!!! They are the type to smile in front of you, eagerly take your money by offering a menu and array of items, more then what they quote you over the phone, and offer no value in return. This had to be an epic fail on their part. I mean WOW, I have never experienced anything like that before. Your pet is part of the family. You ask for help and they laugh at you over the phone. Shame on them. They all need to be retrained and Dr. Alexander should be ashamed of herself! read more

5 stars for DR. ALEXANDER!!! We were loyal to Dr. Tumang for years and seven different pets, so to lose him was really tough. We always felt that he was honest and conscious of finances. After reading the reviews about Dr. VK, we became very skeptical of this clinic and have chosen to see Dr. Alexander who also practices there. She is awesome. She has been so sweet with our two dogs, especially during some intense health issues. We appreciate that she is genuine and we don't feel "nickle and dimed." Whenever she has called about our test results, she is thorough and really patient in helping us understand the details of diagnoses. She works at the clinic three days a week and the days she is there have been busy. No need to abandon Alisal Pet Clinic, just be sure to see Dr. Alexander! read more

I brought my 7th month old rescue here for vaccines and a check up about a year ago. They took my dog inside while I waited outside (due to covid) which is totally understandable, however I have no idea how their manner was with my dog after the took him away (I have a feeling not very good). When the they were done and the vet (Dr. Alexander) came out to talk to me, she made numerous snide remarks about my dogs behavior and personality. She said "wow he's a handful. Well.. thats the one you chose." I'm sorry but who says that to a brand new owner of a rescue pup? They told me he's reactive (which he is), but they shamed me for it, instead of supporting me and trying to make my dog comfortable. I spoke to the vet for maybe 5 minutes, and she did not explain pretty much any of the things I was paying for. I left paying at least $300+ for a first check up and some booster shots. After the vet left, the tech continued to tell me how my dog was going to "become aggressive" if I dont socialize him. He was still a puppy, and not even full grown. I'm not sure in what situation you think it's appropriate to use those kind of scare tactics with a new rescue dog. Well come a year later, I bring my dog back for more vaccines. I didnt get to meet with the actual Vet, which is fine. But clearly my dog was highly traumatized from his last visit there. They came back out and told me my dog is "aggressive." He doesnt have an aggressive bone in his body..but he was SCARED about a bunch of strangers poking and prodding him.. as I'm sure many dogs are. And even if he was behaving that way, why are you shaming me for it? My dog is anxious and definitely needs some extra care, but as professionals, shouldn't you be equipped to handle the most "difficult" and anxious pets? I went home and cried because they made me feel so shameful about my dog. I'd strongly advise any pet owner with an anxious, nervous, or "handful" (Dr. Alexander's words), to NOT come here. I went to a different vet and they had NO problem with my dog and helping him feel comfortable, and did not make me feel bad about his nervousness. read more

Lauren from the front was amazing and I really appreciate Dr. Kuncharapu taking in my Roxie on such short notice (day before thanksgiving 3 pm) Roxie had symptoms of allergies like wheezing, sneezing and clear runny nose. They were so timely and caring and helpful. They were very considerate of the fact that I was on a budget (I spent $300 on her last week after buying her food, toys, bed etc and adoption fee). It would be 5 stars if not for one of the vet techs here. Our kitty was very very sick, only we didn't know how sick until after coming here. My very first visit, I literally had to wait almost an hour to see the vet. I was given no reason or explanation until the actual doctor showed up in the exam room. The vet tech (or assistant...not sure what her name is or her title) loves animals but has zero bedside manner. She kissed my cat several times right on the face, which I found rather odd. Anyway, fast forward to the next day, we had to put our cat to sleep. This particular lady did the kissing on the mouth thing again with our cat, which I just found socially unacceptable and awkward. Then, after our cat passed away, she reached down and kissed her again and whispered something in her ear. Frankly, I find it a violation of our "space." The positive to this place is that 1) the vet is hands down one of the best I've come across and 2) the receptionist lady is super friendly and caring. Now if they could just do something about this particular vet tech, I'd come back with future pets. read more

I am going to assume my girly pup got this treatment cos she is a rescue, and the dr. as he said "we already have invested a lot into BigDawgsRescue"... #1) when i scheduled the appointment to get our pup fixed, i was told Anesthesia is a separate charge, if i want the dog under that is going to cost extra (mind you that we had prepaid for the spay ahead through the Rescue guys- guess i should've asked if Anesthesia was included). #2) when i dropped her off, there was nothing wrong with our pup. They put her under the Anesthesia and decided they cant do it cos she has a horrible rash on her belly. Odd, cos when i dropped her off, she was PERFECTLY FINE. You dont examine the pets BEFORE starting procedure? #3) Dr started to say she has fleas, hence the marks on her belly. She takes her monthly medicine, so he retracts the comment She does get a reaction to grass now and then, but she was fine. i get the "Oh it is a horrible rash, not from grass, this looks really bad, she is going to need proper care and antibiotics, is not that i dont want to perform the operation cos we do alot for BigDawgs already, we go out of our way and not get compensated enough, we do alot for BigDawgsRescue (could you repeat that again, cos you didnt mention that enough) #4) when i went to pick up my dog, she was covered in urine and extremely stressed out. Dr. Tumang is always patient with me...the neurotic dog mom.. and answers all my questions. First of all, anyone who knows me knows that's a HUGE DEAL. Dr. and Kyle are always kind to my dog and the dogs that I see visit his office. My husband recently met the Dr. and liked him very much and that means a lot since my husband is very particular. I recently found out that the rescue organization I got my dog from knows Dr. Tumang personally and absolutely loves the guy as a vet. The rescue dog woman is very picky in whom she adopts her dogs out to and who does the vet care for them. If she loves the guy, then that's good enough for me. Dr. Tumang and his entire team are wonderful. They truly care about the well being of my pets. He is even able to get my super skittish large dog to calm down and have a good visit. As my pets are very senior, I find that his extra time to call on the phone and check on both of them personally is priceless. His team treats my girls like family and the office even call us to let us know if they are going to be closed for any multiple-day holiday in case we need anything. When I moved here I went to a very large and highly recommended vet hospital/clinic in San Ramon... They charged for a grooming and a vet visit... My dog kept shaking her head after so I took her to Dr. Tumang as a neighbor recommended and he found a dirty cotton ball shoved deep in her ear! If the vet had done a simple cursory examine at that other clinic they would have caught the cotton ball their groomers left in place, giving my dog an ear infection! So that other clinic charged for visit and didn't do it. They never offered money back... Thank goodness for Dr. Tumang! Hands down you will get personal care for your loved furry ones that will make you rest better at night because you know they care about your pets as much as you do. read more

THE NEW VET KILLED MY MOM'S DOG!!!! As an animal lover I beg you, please be warned about taking your pets here. Our story ends so tragically, and it absolutely did not have to, and it's all because of Dr. Venkateshwarlu Kuncharap's neglect and poor judgement. My mom's 10 lb toy poodle was seen because he had eaten a bone and was ill with vomiting/diarrhea. They did an x-ray, confirmed there was a blockage, and tried to get a surgeon to come in that day. When they couldn't get one, they scheduled the surgery for the following morning. He did not make it. He died right there on her living room floor that night. If the vet had just told my mom to take him in to ER that night, instead of going home, he would have survived. I have had him sent for a pet autopsy, as we build our case against him. We have FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE CA VETERINARY MEDICAL BOARD, and with the ALAMEDA COUNTY VETERINARY MEDICAL ASSOCIATION, and are pursuing a VETERINARIAN MEDICAL MALPRACTICE LAWSUIT. read more

I can't recommend Dr. Tumang and his staff enough -- I can't imagine taking my pets anywhere else. I began taking my dog there back in December of 2002 and the doctor could not have been more attentive, gentle and careful with him over the years. Growing up, I never had a dog that looked forward to going to the vet. I can honestly say that, when Charlie lept out of the car and realized where we were, he would get excited. Dr. Tumang was very concerned with making sure the animals feel as little pain as necessary -- you can really tell that their comfort is of ultimate concern to him. With terrible sadness, Charlie passed after being hit by a car recently. This review is my way of thanking Dr. Tumang for his wonderful care of my best friend over the years. When the sadness wears off a little, it will be time to adopt again and I'll definitely be coming back in with my new little buddy. If you truly care about your pet, don't go anywhere else. You won't find a vet that will take better care of them anywhere in the area. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. Dr. VK is horrible. I use to take my dog here but a new Veterinarian has taken over and he is absolutely horrible. He is not trustworthy and gives shotty answers to questions. First off, he told my mother earlier this year that she only had to pay the pet visit fee once per year and if she brought the dog in again in the same year, she would just have to pay for the services. Then, of course, he charged for the pet service fee again. :( I took my dog in because of what looked like a cyst on her head. Once I got in to see him, the first thing he says is that it needs to be cut off. She will need to be sedated and we can do her teeth cleaning at the same time. I was immediately thrown off. I did not request nor come in for a teeth cleaning and this guy is acting like it is a must (like its already happening). I question the expense and he starts going into how its gone down in price and it is only $550. The dog will need to be put under... On and on. I tell him honestly that that is not what I came in here for and pretty much that him pitching it to me is putting me off. I hoped this would help him to understand how his way of going about things is being received by me. He says he could drain the cyst but it will just fill right back up. After talking, I get him to say that it could never fill back up its just a possibility. Then, I decide on just draining it at this point. Now he tells me it could be a mass that we would need to send in to see if it was cancerous... I reel him back in. Let's just drain it. He drains it. He says there is a mass and that no puss came out. I see it is visibly smaller on the dogs head and I question what he is telling me. Then he says there was liquid (or whatever you want to call it). As I am leaving the vet, he admits that it could just be a bug bite that the dog had a bad reaction to (causing the liquid to fill around it) and I should just monitor it. I felt like the vet was just trying to sell me on more services and until I said no, did he move onto a cheaper option. Everything was about money. He should have started out the whole intake telling me the different possibilities and different courses of action, not trying to sell me on teeth cleaning and putting my dog under. This guy should find a different career. read more

My daughter's kitty was in really bad shape when we brought him into see Dr V. Kuncharapu we were thinking we would have to put him down due to the severity of his wound. We thought the cost of treating him would be way out of out reach. My grandkids were crying and resigned to the idea they would never see Rinto again. But to our amazement and since gratitude Dr V fixed him up and I didn't have to mortgage the farm to do it. The whole office is so caring and so wonderful. They're worth 10 times what they charge. Sounds like Dr. Tumang who is great is no longer at Alisal Pet Clinic full time. There is a nother vet that is there the majority of the time. 3 highlights from this visit with new vet: 1) My dog loves everybody and has no problem going to the vet. Loves the lady that works as the receptionist at Alisal, was fine with Dr. Tumang but when the new vet walked in my dog immediately hid and didn't want to come out. We have NEVER seen him act this way toward a human. As Bill Murray say "never trust a person your dog doesn't like". 2) We came in for a simple rash but instead were told of all the problems our dog has and the treatment he needs- change of diet, full blood work, prescription drugs, biopsy, teeth cleaning etc. We were just in for a normal check up 7 months ago with Dr. Tumang and everything was fine then. 3) Vet was over 20 mins late for our appt and then left multiple times during our visit for 10-15 minute durations. We were there for over an hour before we gave up and simply left. I guess new vet was too busy talking other people into things they probably don't need as he tried to do with us. Looking forward to what a different vet has to say. Gave 2 stars because of my past experience with Alisal was good and the receptionist was very nice. I would highly recommend Dr Tumang and his staff at Alisal. I found this vet after we moved from Livermore to Pleasanton. It is conveniently located and has reasonable hours. We have always been able to get in for appointments without any problems. We have an 18 year old cat that needed to have a large tumor removed. Her age, her blood work and the size of the tumor were all concerns. Dr Tumang consulted with another vet to discuss the case and provided me with clear options and helped me to understand the risks. The whole team knew I was worried about the outcome of the surgery. The vet called me as soon as the procedure was over to let me know she made it and that he was able to remove the entire tumor. He said that he'd like to keep her until closing that day to ensure she was watched and had enough fluids in her. The incision was about 5 inches across and had a lot of stitches, but the cat did not seem to be in pain nor was she bothered. She healed up nicely and just had her stitches out today. I am so happy that we decided to do the surgery. Definately, try them out if you are looking for a vet. read more

Dr T has been my Vet for about 4 years, since the changes going on with Dr T only in the office part time and a new vet taking over and front desk changes the place is not the same very unorginized and was not impressed with the new vet felt very rushed and his bed side manner was should I say he didn't have one. We've had serious problems with our puppy, he has a skin problem. We have gone to 2 different vets and none of them have been able to tell us what's wrong, but yet they keep prescribing allergy medication. anyways, we decided to look for a different one. This place seemed nice over the phone. we throughly explained the situation and how bad it was... Took him in for a visit, when the guy came out he told us all kinds of bullshit! WE KNOW he has a skin problem, WE KNOW it might be mange/scabies, what was f* up was that they didn't even do anything to him and he seemed like he didn't even want to touch the dog to check him throughly. We understand they have a family like we do too, we are just trying to help a dog because he looks miserable... He went back inside & a girl came out with a 1k quote... which is quite stupid because they don't even know exactly what he has.. It could've been so simple to say see a dermatologist, THATS IT. but instead kept giving us the run around... we had high expectations about this place... so disappointed. read more

I hate to write such a bad review however when it comes to my dogs they deserve nothing but the best and that is not what we got here. My hubby and I rescued a dog and this is the vet they use for spaying so I went and here's my experience: arrive by 8 am and wait, as they said be there between 8-9 am, the reception is was apparently late to work so at 8:05 the door opens and it is sweltering hot in there. I ask the receptionist a few questions, which I thought were common questions but she couldn't answer any of them. All the responses I did receive were snide, I actually almost left WITH my dog as I was not going to leave her with this rude woman; my husband talked me off the ledge so I left my baby. I got back to pick her up and the receptionist was a bit more nice this time but it could be b/c she had a personal friend there with her. I did see the Dr come out from the back but I can't say anything about him as he did not say one word to me when I was there. The vet asst brought my baby to me and her collar was on twisted, I realize a small thing but when one entrusts their baby to someone that person expects to get her/him back the same way they went in. The biggest thing.... looking at her wound it is purplish and bruised nothing like other dogs I've seen nor did my other dog have such an awful looking cut. read more
