My girl dog was sick when I came back from a San Diego trip... We took her not knowing it was a one way trip. The vet student from NY was cool. My vet was too standoffish which was not good but the young man from NY (I am from NY) made up for it. Price is price and I knew it was a one way trip we tried to see if it was possible...I was given my options after my girl's evaluation was not good. I gladly paid for it as it was a fair price to pay for my girl and her cremation and such. I wish there was more selection regarding urns...The few they had were hideous. Still, I like that they were brass. I have a similar one for my Akita but much more attractive and ornamented. It was a rough day. The staff up front was nice all through out... One note, that vet student when I asked gave me a nice jar for a cut of my girl's hair...I used to call it chicken spots since she was a blue healer mix. I have a small cut of her hair in that jar and hold it lovingly still. That saved the review for Sage from being a 3 to a 5...That young man made it more personal and that jar a huge life long memento of my girl Allie...Thank you young man and do not lose that bed side manner.

I am so angry at this place. They are nothing more than a car sales lot. The doctor my cat saw before basically told the receptionist that he would call me back after he see's all his scheduled appointments then he would call back. This is after I said my cat is actively having a GI Bleed. They made me feel like crap that I won't pay $6000 dollars for a GI scope. They mention a trial of steroids. Now, he won't prescribe them. So, my cat has to be put down even thou she was playing this morning. I don't recommend this place to anyone. They won't have time for you if you don't pay out thousands of dollars. How cold this place is to people and their pets!

My dog Lola didn't have an appetite and was vomiting today. Was were worried she may have eaten or swallowed something bad. First time visit to Sage emergency veterinary clinic which is open 24/7. The veterinarian and vet techs were super busy but so good to Lola and to us as well. They took time to listen to our concerns and then recommended some X-rays to verify if she had an obstruction. Lola was there for three hours. Good news she's fine and Lola was given a probiotic medication and she will be on a bland food diet for a few days.

    The day after visiting Sage.

They quickly got my pup's healing underway, sent us home with clear instructions and they sent a message to our regular vet. Also, the costs were very reasonable. We have a great local Vet in Oakland, but when my sweet cattle…read moredog boy Dingo started projectile vomiting and had scary bloody diarrhea we needed urgent help. We called our regular vet, and with it being a Friday afternoon they had no available appointments. Totally understandable, we were referred to an emergency clinic in Berkeley. The traffic in that direction to berkley was terrible, and by this point my poor dog is shaking and pooping blood. My coworker from Pacifica, overheard my panic as I was on the phone at work with my husband who was with our sick dog frantically trying to find an emergency clinic, suggested VEG veterinary emergency group. She said she had heard great things and took her sick pup there, from Pacifica to San Ramon based on others glowing recommendations of them. I instructed my husband to rush to San Ramon, while I called veg to give them a heads up on my dog being rushed in. By this point, I'd called multiple other "emergency" pet clinics and was frustrated with the lack of appointments (and empathy). I called VEG fully expecting to get turned away and I was pleasantly surprised with how Wonderful, supportive and helpful the front desk gal was. She calmly heard me out, understood that I was at work my husband was in the car speeding towards them with a vomiting shaking, mess of a dog. She texted me an intake form to fill out. And told me not to worry and that they would be ready to help my husband and dog as soon as they came through the door. This place has pet emergencies dialed in. My husband said as soon as he came in, they greeted him and my dog dingo by name and took them in side and seen by a vet FAST. They quickly administered IV hydration, gave him anti nausea and anti diarrheal. They took blood for tests and X-rays ( or ultrasound I'm not sure) to check for blockages. My husband was blown away by the open lobby and the efficacy and compassion. Thankfully seems like our Boy will live to see another day, he's feeling much much better. And we now have a go to location for any pet emergencies. Don't hesitate on driving here from anywhere in the Bay Area for an animal emergency. They are worth the drive and the money. I will say it was not a cheap visit but given the circumstances the care and the efficiency was well worth every single penny. This place is great. Thank you so much VEG. The best in pet emergencies

The level of compassion and care that we received from her is unparalleled. She was so patient, kind, called with updates frequently, and genuinely cared about his well-being throughout his stay. When his condition got worse and had to be transferred to specialty hospital, she called hospitals multiple times, trying to get him admitted after being told they wouldn't take him and even escalated to her Director to also make phone calls. She fought for him - fought to keep him alive. After she was finally able to get a specialty care hospital to take him and he was transferred, she called daily to check up on him even after he was discharged from VEG. The world needs more doctors like her especially during difficult times. Dr. Matsuo is a kind human, who gives me hope again that there are doctors out there who actually care about their patients vs. focusing on volume. VEG is so incredibly lucky and fortunate to have her and I highly recommend that if your pet ever has the unfortunate need to go to VEG, you ask for Dr. Matsuo. We thank her so much for being so patient, having tenacity in fighting for patients, and being just an amazing, wonderful, compassionate person. We thank you so much for saving Pinot.

The surgical site did not heal properly, and we've continued spending additional money on medications, follow-up care, and X-rays because the issue still has not been resolved. What has been most upsetting is the lack of continuity of care and communication. Dr. Chaudhri is currently out of the office, and we were told there is effectively no escalation path for two days. We cannot even obtain our dog's X-rays or medical records promptly in order to seek treatment from another veterinarian. When a pet is still suffering after surgery, owners should not be left without answers, support, or access to records needed for continued care. We understand complications can happen, but the inability to reach someone who can help or authorize records during an ongoing medical issue has been extremely stressful and disappointing. I would not recommend this Vet for care. We've spent over $2,000 on care and still have a very ill dog. Lisa H

While I was waiting, three other clients walked in, and all of their animals were taken back to see a nurse immediately. When I questioned the staff about this, they claimed the other animals were emergencies. How are 4 starved and dehydrated kittens not considered an emergency? What makes this worse is that this place is supposed to work with local animal shelters, yet they couldn't care less about these rescue animals when it actually mattered. It felt like because these were rescues and I wasn't a standard high-paying client, they didn't want to bother helping them. A veterinary hospital should care about saving animal lives, regardless of where they came from. The lack of care, terrible communication, and rude behavior at the front desk are completely unacceptable. Avoid this place if you actually have a real emergency.

What initially raised concerns were fees that I felt were not clearly communicated. When I questioned the charges, I received explanations that did not adequately address my concerns. I escalated the issue as far as I could and was repeatedly told someone would call me back. That call never came. Over the course of weeks, I followed up multiple times by phone and email. I was consistently promised communication that never happened. Eventually, I received an email stating that if I had additional questions, they would be happy to call me. I immediately requested a call. Once again, no one contacted me. What bothered me most was not even the money--it was the complete lack of accountability and follow-through. This place gives off all the wrong corporate vibes: plenty of promises, scripted responses, and little genuine concern once an issue is raised. To be fair, there was one veterinarian who earned my trust. They treated my cat during her recovery and showed the compassion, professionalism, and care that I expected from the entire hospital. That veterinarian was the only reason I considered continuing to bring my pets here. Unfortunately, when the time came to make end-of-life decisions for my cat, I wanted nothing to do with this hospital. By that point, the lack of communication, empathy, and personal care had completely eroded my trust. What should have been a compassionate experience instead felt cold, impersonal, and disrespectful. I genuinely do not understand how this facility maintains such high ratings. I have received better communication, better customer service, and far more compassion from small, local veterinary clinics than I ever experienced here. If you are looking for a veterinary team that values communication, transparency, and treating pet owners with respect, I would strongly encourage you to look elsewhere. I regret choosing this hospital and wish I had taken my pets somewhere else from the beginning. The most frustrating part is that this entire situation could have been resolved with a simple phone call. Instead, I was repeatedly told someone would contact me, only to be ignored over and over again. For a business that cares for beloved family pets, that level of disregard is unacceptable. On top of that, their prices are very competitive--honestly better than most other places I've come across--which makes it even easier to keep coming back.
