Daniel came in my home and knew what was wrong within just a few minutes. He cleaned some pipe out and my air was on again! He cleaned up, went over a few things I should look for in the future and emailed me the receipt from his tablet. Very professional. After considering several companies, I chose D&D and spent tens of thousands of dollars on two new systems. Unfortunately, the 5-ton system had always been finicky and difficult to operate from the beginning. I then went away on vacation for two full months, during which the system was barely used. I returned home on August 7. Despite being finicky, it was cooling the house. D&D had a visit scheduled for August 10 to take photos of the unit for what I was told was the "final permit inspection." Before that visit, the AC was cooling the house. After that visit, it stopped working properly and was no longer cooling the house as it had been. When I reported the problem, D&D blamed it on a secondary air filter that another contractor had temporarily placed over ONE return inside the house. What I find difficult to understand about that explanation is that the AC had been running and cooling the house with that temporary filter already in place before the "inspection photos" were taken. The noticeable problem occurred after that visit. I called the office, and they sent another young technician. After his visit, things became even worse: the entire system stopped working, and there was no power going to the thermostat. Around the same time, my kitchen light also began flickering. My family was now completely without AC in the middle of the Sarasota summer heat -- for three nights already! After all this hassle, I personally contacted the Sarasota County construction/building department because I wanted to speak directly with an inspector. I also told D&D clearly that I wanted an IN-PERSON final inspection, not simply a photo inspection, because I have several questions and concerns about the installation that I want to clarify directly with the inspector. After everything that has happened, I want those questions addressed during an actual inspection. I called D&D again requesting emergency service. Despite this being a newly installed system that had completely stopped working, I encountered serious resistance. They gave me a service window covering almost the entire day. I had to travel out of town for business. About two hours into my four-hour trip, I received a call from their office saying the manager wanted to accompany the technician because the technician was new and inexperienced. However, the manager could not come that day. I told them that was unacceptable. Their staffing and supervision problems should not become my family's problem. If D&D believed their technician needed a manager present, then D&D needed to find a solution -- not decide that my family would spend another day without air conditioning simply because their manager wasn't available. If having people, including children, suffering inside a house that felt like a sauna wasn't enough to make this an emergency, I would hope that at the very least the welfare of a dog completely dependent on us would matter to them. But apparently, none of it was urgent enough. Despite giving me an almost all-day service window, the technician never showed up. We were left without AC again. My sons were complaining that the house felt like a sauna and that the heat was making them feel sick. This is simply unacceptable after spending tens of thousands of dollars replacing two HVAC systems. What makes this experience even more disappointing is the enormous difference between the attention we received before the sale and after the sale. The salesman was extremely attentive and very good at pushing his product. He even bragged about being related to the owner of the company, which naturally gave the impression that he had a close connection to the business and would stand behind what he was selling. However, once we had serious problems, I contacted him several times asking for help and felt completely disregarded. Apparently, being related to the owner was worth mentioning while making the sale, but it did not translate into accountability or assistance when we actually needed help. When a customer spends this kind of money replacing two complete HVAC systems, they should not have to fight to get a newly installed system working, repeatedly call for help, receive an almost all-day service window, and then have nobody show up at all while their family remains without AC. Based on my experience, I absolutely cannot recommend D&D. If you are considering this company, be very careful and ask questions about what happens AFTER the sale. Don't judge a company only by how attentive and persuasive the salesperson is when they want your business. Selling an expensive HVAC system is the easy part. I understand businesses make mistakes, but this was not one bad day. It was a prolonged series of failures, excuses and expenses that placed our home closing at risk. In November 2024, Sean McCutcheon's installed two new Bryant air-conditioning systems for $28,399. Their written proposal specifically included "permit and inspection by local municipality" and stated that a second day would be required for the inspection. Nearly two years later, while selling our home, we discovered that the permit had never been finalized and remained open. We had never been notified that an inspection was still required. The company claimed it had a note saying we were out of town when the systems were installed. That was false. I was at the house and spoke with the installer while the work was performed. The company also had my telephone number and email address. This did not explain why nobody contacted us afterward or why the permit remained unresolved for nearly two years. During the home-sale inspection process, kinked ductwork restricting airflow, significant moisture and visible organic growth in the HVAC areas--including on or around the equipment--were identified. Sean McCutcheon's had maintained the systems under its paid maintenance program. Despite repeated access to the equipment, none of these visible conditions had been documented or brought to our attention. Had we been told, we would have addressed them immediately. The company said checking the ductwork was not its responsibility and claimed its technicians had never seen the visible organic growth. Yet its proposal acknowledged that the systems would be attached to existing ductwork and stated that an estimate would be provided if duct modifications were needed. No such warning, recommendation or estimate was presented during installation or later maintenance visits. Because closing was approaching, we paid Sean McCutcheon's another $1,975 to repair the ductwork and approximately $6,000 to another company to remove and remediate the organic growth. We also hired a different company to install a whole-home dehumidification system because I would no longer allow Sean McCutcheon's to work in our home. When the municipal inspection was finally arranged, the work did not initially pass. A Sean McCutcheon's technician told me they had tried to get the prior work "grandfathered," but the inspector would not agree. Their $1,975 duct-repair invoice included commentary and theories about other conditions and possible causes that went beyond the work they were hired to perform. Because the invoice was going into our closing file, I asked for a replacement describing only the work performed. The company refused and told me changing or recreating an invoice was "impossible." As a business owner, I know businesses correct and reissue invoices every day. When I initially declined to pay until the invoice was corrected, the company contacted our real-estate attorney and stated it would not sign the affidavit needed for closing unless the $1,975 was disclosed or paid. To prevent the dispute from interfering with closing, I paid it despite objecting to the invoice's contents. At every stage, instead of taking ownership and helping solve the problem, we received another excuse, denial or deflection. Proceed with extreme caution. Independently verify that every permit has received final approval, obtain a separate evaluation of your ductwork and airflow, and inspect your attic and HVAC equipment for moisture and organic growth. Do not assume a paid maintenance program means visible problems will be identified or reported. I will never use this company again or recommend it to family, friends or anyone purchasing a major HVAC system.

The technician arrived, and I mentioned that the bedroom is always a few degrees warmer than the rest of the condo. He went outside, came back in a few minutes and told me that there must be a blockage in the ducting, and I needed a whole new unit, which would be 10-12K. I was astonished, because I own a number of properties, and it has never cost anywhere near that for an 800 sq ft. condo! I said I didn't want to spend that kind of money right now, and I'd jst purchase a home warranty on the property, which I had planned to do anyway. That way when the AC stopped working they would repair or replace it. He stepped outside, then came in and said his boss wanted to talk to me. The "boss" got on the phone and told me very severely that my unit needed replacing. I told him "No thank you. I don't wish to spend this amount at this time." He then said, "My technician told me that you are planning to buy a home warranty. That is insurance fraud, which I don't suggest doing in the state of Florida. EXCUSE ME?????? I told him that since the unit is functioning - if I purchase a home warranty there is no fraud taking place. This unit could run another year, 2 years, 10 years! It is not acting any differently than when I purchased the unit and had a home inspector check it out! His response was, " NO! It is broken and you need to get a new unit NOW!" When a company puts on the full court press like this, it is definitely a scam. They feel that if they scare a woman into believing them, we will buy what they are selling. I'm sure they looked up the ownership, saw it was in my name and figured they'd take advantage of a widow or single woman. I would avoid this company AT ALL COSTS!
