Sweet staff. Vet a bit too laid back. If a serious condition, get a quick second opinion.

I got there and no one could find his appointment on the calendar. I pushed and described the woman I spoke to who booked the appointment. they located the appointment but the woman booked in 3 days in the past. so the staff told me to go home and that they would try to see him a couple hours later. the cat was crying and stressed from the ride over. How cruel. no one seemed to care about his health or well being. I came back and was squeezed into see Dr Steve logsdon. I warned him that my cat bites when stressed and that he should wear gloves. But no he didn't listen and my cat nipped him in the finger. Nothing serious but the dramatic performance put on by the "doctor" should have earned him an oscar. My poor cat was breathing seriously and was told he could go into a seizure.the cat was fine when I brought him to the hospital the first time but the stress from the staff making him leave and come back hours later was too much for him. My cat was 19. Well the doctor told me that I was causing him stress by trying to comfort him. Doc never apologized for mixing up his appointment and having to bring a sick cat back home then back again. Never apologized just blamed me for trying to comfort the cat. He yelled at my sick cat for nipping his finger. Then made us sign paperwork that he got bit. This doctor was over the top. Why wasn't he wearing gloves like most other vets? I told him to wear gloves. Then he told me that my cat needed to be put down. This made no sense to me. The cat was stressed from the doctor mishandling him and from being sent home twice. He then put him down. Instead of allowing us to cry etc he scurried us out into the waiting room with an empty cat carrier to pay for the miservices his office caused My husband and I were unconsolable. They made us wait in a line to pay up instead of having the decency to pay in private. Many other pet owners in the waiting room told us they were disgusted at how we were treated. Their normal process is to pay in private and to leave our s back door. Thank you for screwing up his vet appointment. I blame your office for causing him the stress that took his poor life. Do better . I called a few days later and asked what the process was when a pet is put down. The office manager was shocked when I told her what happened. Why were we treated differently,? Avoid this hospital. Their poor communication, lack of processes in place, lack of empathy, and judgement is going to get them in serious trouble someday. Do better. Treat people better. I should have read the poor reviews. I will forever feel guilty for beinging my pet there.

Dr Couts worked with our fearful dog Denali, gave her the time she needed to warm up to properly get the exam, vaccinations & labs done without using restraint methods. He laid on the floor her first time there, waited for her to approach him & that alone showed me the level of care & knowledge they have as we wanted her to be comfortable at the vet & not be forced into anything or muzzled if unnecessary. We now bring our current dog Kernel there & he loves seeing/meeting everyone & runs in looking for the treats & the attention! The CSR's, assistants & techs are very knowledgeable, caring & all work with fear free methods which we love & appreciate. They are happy to answer any questions I have & I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a place to bring their loved pets.

I called them to see my dog, who was dying, and they simply said they were full today and didn't have time to see us. Shameful. Think long and hard about using this place if that's how they treat customers and patients. The one time we needed them, they turned their back on us. And don't believe whatever they say in their response about not having the facilities to treat him if he needed overnight care, I begged them to see us and they wouldn't even examine him to see what was wrong. Rest in peace my boy.

    Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital

    Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital

I'm trying to find the right words to adequately praise Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital…read more(MVRH), its staff, and Dr. Kelly Larabee, an Emergency Physician whose compassion and professionalism made an extraordinarily difficult day more bearable. While traveling from northern New Hampshire to Boston, we stopped in Woburn and discovered that one of our very elderly dogs could no longer get out of the car on her own. When she finally did, her rear legs collapsed beneath her. In addition to the weakness in her hind legs, she was breathing rapidly and drooling excessively. As a longtime dog owner, I recognized the look in her eyes immediately--the look that says, "It's time." Fortunately, we were less than a mile from Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital, a Level 1, 24-hour emergency and specialty veterinary hospital. We arrived without an appointment and were met by a team that was immediately welcoming, compassionate, and remarkably efficient. It was clear from the moment we walked through the door that MVRH has built a system of care designed to deliver expert treatment with both urgency and empathy. Our dog was promptly brought into the treatment area and made comfortable. Shortly thereafter, we met Dr. Kelly Larabee, whose kindness, professionalism, and genuine concern were evident from our first conversation. Dr. Larabee confirmed what we had feared but already suspected--that the time had come for our beloved companion to cross the rainbow bridge peacefully. Dr. Larabee and her team brought an extraordinary degree of humanity to veterinary emergency medicine. They treated our dog with dignity, tenderness, and respect, as though she were a member of their own family. During one of the most difficult moments a pet owner can experience, they provided not only exceptional medical care but also comfort and compassion for us. I am not sure the average pet owner--or member of the public--fully appreciates the expertise, systems of care, and operational excellence that make an institution like Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital function so effectively. Having spent much of my career in process engineering, I was deeply impressed by both the efficiency of their operations and the quality of care they delivered. Every aspect of our experience reflected a well-designed system staffed by highly skilled professionals who never lost sight of the human and emotional side of their work. Dr. Larabee and the entire MVRH team were as compassionate as they were capable, and as caring as they were efficient. Their professionalism and humanity turned a heartbreaking day into one marked by dignity, peace, and gratitude. We would all be fortunate to receive the same standard of care in human medicine.
