I am so disappointed and angry with this animal hospital. I have been with them for more than 20 years. The last 5 years we banged heads on the care of my babies. I was told that I am over sensitive and worry to much. I only wished I had followed my guts intuition. I wouldn't recommend that you seek Veterinary care at BAH . Again I am disgusted and so disappointed that I trusted them to do the right thing. Moved on and my animals are currently being cared for. No thanks to BAH. read more

I love the fact of how close this is to my house and how fast they got my cat in. Plus the cost was so much affordable than my visit elsewhere. What I didnt like is how they handled my cat and they didn't seem like they really liked their jobs. They didn't answer any of my questions, kept blowing me off. They literally showed ZERO concern. However the last at the desk was very friendly and helpful. As much as the cost was affordable. I'd prefer to pay more elsewhere and know they actually care about my fur baby. I will not bring any of my babies here again unless there's different vets assisting !! read more

I worked for Beverly Animal Hospital for about 2 weeks as a Receptionist and I would've stayed for the long term had they given me a chance. I worked in Veterinary hospitals for many years but I was out of work for a few years because I became a single mom so I was out of practice. We were down one person and had a busy day at the office and I was not able to answer the phone on time because it was only my second week and the other person working with me was also new. The Manager(who's also new) jumped to conclusions and let me go that day and told me she also fired one of the Technicians on the same day. I then noticed the listing on Indeed for an "experienced" vet tech so my guess is this person didn't meet her expectations either! When I first started working there I learned that almost everyone was new and that everyone had left for other jobs, I didn't think anything of it until I could see why. There are several changes being made and the rules are strict. Management expects everyone to just jump right in and know everything right away!. I felt I was being as productive as I could by answering the phones before expected and learning the computer as fast as I could, granted I'm not fast at typing so it slows me down but I do the best I can. I was also trying to learn their language, what can be shortened in the notes?,,example.. "phone call from owner" if I wrote "pcfo" would they know what this means? Anyway, I felt the need to write a review here because I don't feel that I was treated fairly and employers at BAH aren't given a chance and it's no wonder why they're so short staffed and have major turnaround (which was also noticed by several of the clients). However, I did find that Dr. Friedman, his son Jake and his tech Tasha were extremely nice, hardworking and love animals! I'm sure it's no secret to them who I am and so going forward my advice to you is to hire an assistant manager to take some of the load off the one that's there and maybe have more team meetings about the changes so that everyone is on the same page with what's going on and can be trained in the same manner. Also, There needs to be more time to train new employees, it's not fair for the workers to be fired left and right because they're not meeting the expectations within the first couple weeks and are let go because you don't have time to train them! I would also say that there needs to be more empathy and compassion for the long term clients who are used to the way it was before. I have a cat named Fluffy and he is diabetic. The vet I was taking him to was charging me so much but Fluffy was never getting better. So I moved to Beverly and Beverly Animal Hospital is down the street from me. So I was like you know what I am going to try them with Fluffy. OMG!!!The best thing that ever happen to Fluffy was he had someone that new what they were doing and actually cared about my Fluffy. Fluffy has never been so happy,energetic and runs around playing. It is the happiest thing to see is my little Foo Foo finally feels GREAT!!! We owe all the thanks to the Fabulous Dr and staff. They are all so unbelievable!!! I am even getting my boss to transfer her kitty over there. If I could give them more stars I wouldn't stop. They go above and beyond and don't rip you off. Dr. Friedman is incredibly sweet! He saw my 9 year old cat for the first time today and he took his time making sure she was comfortable and healthy. Long time client but now wish I never was. Not surprised at all to see so many one star reviews here. Front staff, one older lady in particular has been rude since day one. You ask vet questions about health when they are puppies and get no help but when a problem occurs they are willing to help for a ton of money. One time we went for annual and we're told all was fine by vet and then went to pay reception and were hit for over $300. We asked why. Staff had to go ask vet and we found out THEN they had like Lyme disease and needed pills. Pills that would do nothing for the Lyme. Nothing was even mentioned in the room with vet. Nothing about Lyme, pills etc. Read all the one star reviews here. I agree with all of them. read more

I will start by saying that I have always liked Dr. Friedman. But the front desk staff are awful. They are cold and have no empathy. After bringing both of my cats there for over 11 years, I was told today that they "don't take emergency patients". I was told to go to another town, in a crisis and while panicking, where I had to have my beloved pet put down. I was going to Beverly Animal Clinic for years. There was the star employee Mary who was kind caring and professional. Once she left everything went downhill from there. There was one isolated incident where my son was sick and I had a check returned. It took me a little while to pay it off I did. At the end of the day I care and live my fur babies like my children of course. It seems that Dr.Friedmans upfront desk employees run the show. It also appears you cannot be proactive in your own pets care. At the end of the day it is my experience that the monies and charging people money is far more important than your pet. It is not a crime to owe money secondly Covid has effected us all. Too make families and credible people feel anything else is unkind and wrong. read more

These guys have been so wonderful with my new(ish) puppy over the last few months. We adopted from Cape Ann Animal Aid a few weeks before the pandemic hit. Initial puppy wellness visit was good, vaccines were clearly explained, and they figured out a schedule that would keep my puppy from being overloaded with shots in any one week while keeping visit costs down. They even squeezed us in in literally the last hour possible to be able to give her the last of her distemper shots when the emergency shut down was announced. Post-corona, they were just amazing with advice and then medical care and treatment for a case of bad gastroenteritis. Both vets are great, and I especially appreciate Dr. Shosho's warmth and communication style. Great vet's office--glad they're in my downtown! read more

Should have written this a while ago but couldn't bring myself to. Dr Friedman is patronizing and likes to hear himself talk. I'm an experienced cat and dog owner, I don't need the basics lectured to me at every visit. He misdiagnosed my dog, which led to hours of pain, a 2am trip to the emergency vet in Woburn, ending with my beloved therapy dog being euthanized. Of course he denied doing anything wrong. Will never go here again and always try to dissuade others. read more

We were taking our cats to Beverly Natural Animal Healing Center a while back and my beloved Sasha was having all kinds of problems that never seemed to get any better. We finally switched to Dr. Friedman at BAH and he figured it out right away. We've been going to him ever since. He is gentle and kind and always listens to our questions. Over the many years we've taken 5 cats and 1 dog there and have been satisfied every time and have full confidence in both Dr. Friedman and Dr. Shosho. We had to take Sasha, Minnie and our dog Suzy there when the time came to let them go (not all at once, thank heavens). As devastating as this was for me, I was comforted by the kindness and compassion of Dr. Friedman and his staff each time. There is expertise and goodness at BAH, and I wouldn't trust our animals anywhere else. read more

After 15 years bringing my animals to Beverly Animal Hospital, Dr. Friedman and Beverly Animal Hospital, turned out to be a huge disappointment. I went to Dr. Friedman for all of my dogs and cats for 15 years total! I had always felt that he was a very good vet and had seemed genuine and efficient in giving the best care my animals. I loved the 'former' staff that was there in earlier years. The women at the front desk that he used to employ, were kind and sweet and despite how busy they were, they always had pleasant conversations with clientele in the lobby, as we waited our turn. Back in the day, it was a great place to bring my animals. Then a few years ago, his practice changed drastically. A HUGE difference! In 2015, Dr. Friedman replaced his former staff with all new front desk staff. These newer staff are younger, seemingly inexperienced and honestly...really unpleasant women. I had one female staffer on the phone, argue with me about the dosage (that they instructed me to give!). She upset me so much, she wouldn't listen and she told me that I had given too much dosage to my dog... even though the dosage was exactly what I was told to give him! At that time, my mother was terminally ill and living with me, and I had a lot going on. I explained this to the staffer on the phone and yet she had no regard for my feelings or my situation. I told her that I needed to bring my dog in for the scheduled procedure (despite the disparagement about the dosage), because I had very little 'free' time as a caregiver and could not reschedule. My dog was perfectly fine and was prepped for the scheduled procedure. Yet, they still refused to let me bring my dog in as scheduled. Then the technician eventually got on the phone and she was just as nasty as the first woman. To say that they were cold and uncaring, would an understatement. I felt that after 15 years of entrusting Beverly Animal Hospital and spending thousands of dollars at their office for my various animals, I should have at least been given the respect to talk directly to Dr. Friedman. But I could not get through the concrete barrier of those nasty women at the front desk. And to top it off, they told me that I was welcome to bring my dog 'somewhere else'. It was a huge disappointment for me to see how weak and easily manipulated Dr. Friedman was by his new staff. Relationship ended. It was simple as that. After 15 years of bringing my various animals to him, Dr. Friedman still never so much as called me, or sent a letter, apologized or explained. Zero concern. So....I did what they suggested, and I brought my dog 'elsewhere'. Best thing I ever did! I brought my dog instead to DANVERS Animal Hospital and I cannot say enough about how professional and wonderful and caring they are there. Wonderful experience. I bring all my animals to Danvers Animal Hospital now. Seriously, consider going to Danvers Animal Hospital instead. Because they treat clients with kindness and respect. Everyone at Danvers Animal Hospital is professional and caring, including at the front desk. Sadly, Beverly Animal Hospital and Dr. Friedman turned out to be a huge disappointment. This is a difficult review to write. on the one hand, Dr. Friedman has always provided great care to the many animals we have brought to him over the decades we've been "patients". on the other hand, the front office staff, in particular the newly minted practice manager, have made it impossible for me to go there anymore. The relationship spanned multiple generations in my family and has now ended because of the way a staffer decided to handle one of the longer standing clients they had. shame. prior to a recent visit for a spay for a new dog of ours, i called the office to gather some information. Long story short, there were many gaps in the office's explanation of the process (i only discovered this later with subsequent calls to and from the office). Only when calling to schedule the spay did i find out that another procedure was necessary for my pup. i was denied the ability to make the spay appointment until this box was checked. i was a bit upset as now it seemed the date of the spay would be pushed out as we waited for results. that's when things turned real nasty. i like to ask questions. and since i bother to take the time to ask the questions, i feel as though i am due some sort of reasonable response to that question. So when i began questioning new policies that had been put into place since our last visit, the Practice Manager became quite difficult to the point that she accused me of yelling, being demeaning, telling me i did not have the right to ask these questions, etc. etc. etc. again, very nasty. She then hung up the phone on me. very professional. Fast forward now to the prep visit for the tests that were needed ahead of the spay. I walked into the hospital, weighed my dog then asked who the practice manager was. When she approached, i asked for an apology i felt was due given the tenor of our last call. i guess that was the wrong thing to say. she tried to kick me out but i refused. she then started crying. not making this up. ended up sitting with my mouth shut as this person stormed in and out of exam rooms, slammed stock on the floor and sobbed. what an absolute disgrace. I'm not going to judge anyone's personal emotion state, however, i was beyond shocked that the doc would let someone run is practice that is so clearly unstable, in my opinion. I've seen some craziness before, but i could not believe the manner in which i was treated. disgusting and shameful. We went through with the exam and spay and am so very sad to say goodbye. We do so much enjoy and respect Dr. Friedman. Unfortunately the folks he has now decided to surround himself with are not of the quality of years past and could give a rap about customers that keep the lights on....maybe some people need to be reminded every now and then that its not magic....you need revenue to remain a going concern. I waited two months for my first appt for my new pet. I was then informed my appt was cancelled because I didn't send the paperwork by July 7th for an appt on the 21st. I had to reschedule once so July 7th was when paperwork was due for my original appt. When it was pushed a few weeks I assumed I had time and sent them the packet a week in advance. Then I got the email it was cancelled. Now I'd have to wait till September. I don't understand how this is an appropriate expectation. I will be finding a vet with reasonable availability and at least the courtesy to give me a call before they just cancel my appt. read more

At first I thought this was a good vet but they turned out to be a bunch of money grubbing crooks in the end. I love my dogs and have to trust the people caring for them. Trouble began when they vaccinated her for kennel cough even though there were no symptoms. Next she had an allergic reaction to vaccine. They gave her a shot of benedril to counteract the vaccine which did not work. The whole experience cost me over 300. I then went to cvs and bought over the counter benedril for 5 dollars. No apologies nothing. If anyone knows a good vet let me know. read more

We only came to Beverly Animal Hospital because it's the closest place to us that honors the Friends of Animals spay certificate. Before being able to schedule an appointment for surgery, we had to bring our puppy in for a check up. I can understand why this is necessary, but it was an annoyance because we have our own vet. When we got there, whoever we met with (the vet? a vet tech?)... well, he was irritating. Talked to my father and I like we were both children or something. He had such a patronizing attitude. He kept blabbing on about things we already knew -- and when we did have questions, he refused to answer. My mom will be bringing our pup to the vet for her surgery, and since neither of us would be there that day, we wanted to have our questions answered. He kept saying, "We'll go over that when you bring her in." Ridiculous. Needless to say, I'm *very* glad that once our puppy is fixed, we'll never have to step foot in this building again. read more

My bunny (of 8yrs) got a severely big lump on his little paw. I brought him everywhere. I called every vet in the area. No one was willing to do anything about it. Many vets offered to put him down.. no one would do the surgery...all hope was gone. My friend told me about Beverly Animal Hospital & to bring my bunny there. So I did.... and YES! They offered to do the surgery a few days later, for an extremely low price! My bunny was brought in, fixed up, taken care of, and sent home. My bunny is so happy now. And so am I.. Especially when every other vet would have just put him to sleep. Thank You Beverly Animal Hospital. I just got your follow up call to make sure my Little White Bunny is ok. Sorry for the long story but this is important. The Dr. seemed kind at first, but his staff always left much to be desired. My approximately 9pd boy cat, was subjected to unnecessary surgery and my 20yo female cat was given medication that apparently wasn't important enough to refill without an appointment almost 2 weeks into the future her symptoms to this day have not changed without the medication. So the treatments were in my opinion uncalled for. One day Patches was severely ill with abnormal sneezing for the entire day, I called hoping for immediate relief for her and was given an appointment for the next afternoon a Saturday, her symptoms needed immediate attention so I let them know I wanted to have her receive emergency treatment, the response was they didn't think it was that serious (I wish I had the mind to video her) I called the emergency clinic and was given the okay to bring her, it was a Friday afternoon traffic was severely backed up, (the clinic was understandably busy, but entrance was out of because of Covid. I would have to leave her alone with strangers) I wasn't told until I arrived told that I would have to leave her there for approximately 3 hours, I was very upset that I wasn't told this beforehand an hour drive away from home. I did not want to further stress her by leaving her. She and I lost our other companion a few years ago, at that time I left the house suddenly with Tabby Cat and she died before she could get help and never came back home Patches, of course, was upset for weeks, whether Patches remembers that or not, leaving her was out of the question. The night ended up with an online Veterinarian suggesting Zyrtec, I carefully treated her and before the night was over both Patches and I were thankfully relieved. The money was more important to them than Patches' life in my humble opinion, I believe they somewhere along (in their 29 year business) the line they lost empathy, for pets and people. I gave them ample time to respond by reaching out to them several times, I was accused of harassing them their attitude was completely defensive, I have all correspondence with them. read more

DON'T go here!!! The doctor is bad, bad ,bad!!! Brought my small dog in, who sometimes bites if he is scared. I let the doctor know this ahead of time. The doctor was scared of my dog biting him so he made ME put on the muzzle!!!( my dog only weighs 14 lbs.) Then he never took his temperature!!!(one of the 1st things all vets do) Gave my dog a pathetic exam and then wouldn't look at his teeth because he was afraid of getting bit. I told him that my dogs breathe was awful and he needed his teeth looked at. (Again, EVERY VET DOES THIS DURING EXAM!) then charged me $450!!!! For a useless appointment. He has a reputation of being lazy, wish i had listened to everyone who told me this!! GO TO DANVERS!!! read more

There are basically 2 things that my dog, Chloe, hates: Visits to the vet and visits to the groomer. If I am driving her around and get anywhere within 2 blocks of either place she starts whining like there's no tomorrow. That being said I trust the care of Chloe to Dr. Freedman without reservation. The facility is absolutely spick and span and the staff there is very friendly. Dr. Freedman is very good about explaining everything; LOL, almost to a fault. For example, there is this new test that test for heartworm, distemperment, and 2 other things and Dr. Freedman will explain what each thing test for then will explain how the test works. I relate this to ordering a strawberry ice cream and then getting a how-to make ice cream thesis from the scooper jockey! Give me the ice cream already!!! LOL, I still think he's great. If you adopted your pet from the Northeast Animal Shelter they do accept spay/Neuter Certificates which essentially allows you to get the procedure for free; you only need to pay for the medication out of pocket. Their pet medication is cheaper the petmed.com so I always give them my business for those items. Though I have not shopped around for any other veterinarians I am 100% happy with their service and care. read more

Also, everyone helps you in not being overcome with guilt when it is the best choice to let your animal go and to end their suffering. Brought my cat here once, when she was vomiting. Emergency hospital had done an inconclusive X Ray the previous night and she was no better. Was told there was nothing to see or feel and "cat's vomit". We knew something was wrong and she ended up at the emergency doctor again at 3 AM the next day, having surgery, during which a piece of string was removed from her intestines. Yes, it was difficult to diagnose, but she almost died and we didn't appreciate being condescended to. Would never go back. read more

I was quoted 130.00 which would cover all her shots, preop exam before gabby to be spayed. Well my son took her in with 130.00 they gave her her shots. Took a sample of her poop. Than told my son that there is anouther shit and it will be 14.00 more or Gabby could not be spayed. Josh came home with ou tI the shot. Just before moving to Beverly, my cat had to get staples because I accidentally cut his skin while trimming his hair. When I got to Beverly, the first thing I did was to call Beverly Animal Hospital to make an appointment so the doc can take staples out of my poor cat. I do agree with the previous yelpers that he spends time explaining things, which can be either informative or patronizing. Dr told me to brush his hair every day to avoid my cat's hair being tangled so I don't have to cut his hair. I actually do almost every day despite him attacking me with his all might. Yet, it was nice to get the reinforcement that I need to be more diligent. In addition, my cat threw up on the way there. He and his staff were very nice about it, letting me use the room to clean it up. Dr told me I probably shouldn't feed him before taking him in the car. I ALWAYS avoid feeding him for a few hours when he has to be in a car! Yet, I didn't feel like he was "patronizing" me. He seems to care about animals and want to share his knowledge. Dr was just really really nice. After throwing up & staples being off, my cat acted like a king on the room, exploring all places in the exam room. I felt embarrassed with his behaviors but Dr wad totally cool with it because "he is a cat." I just loved his attitudes towards my cat. I'm definitely going back there as long as I live in Beverly!!! P.S. And, he didn't charge me for his service. After paying $200 at the emergency vet, this was such a help! read more

I used this vet for the first time this week. Because it was such a brief visit and because my pet's problem had started to resolve itself, I can only call it average at this point. But Dr. Friedman was very friendly, soft-spoken and he took the time to educate me on the options if treatments should my pet's problem reappear. I also was pleasantly surprised to receive a senior discount when I checked out. The office also contacted my former vet by fax while I was there to get my pet's vaccination record, though I have to call them to get the entire record faxed over. read more

Used to take my dog to the VCA in Wakefield which I never loved. We moved to Beverly, so I decided to try this place because it's much closer. Boy am I happy I did! I feel the care here is so much more personal. Dr. Friedman sees our dog first (no vet tech first) which I like, and he gives a lot of time and attention to her. Very happy taking our dog here and definitely recommend! Prices also seem more reasonable than other places I've been. They also have a nice little selection of Lupine leashes/collars available for purchase in the waiting area which is nice. read more

I have been going here for many years. The care and compassion that is shown at BAH is amazing. I have had the misfortune of having to put down two cats here and the dignity and humanity the staff demonstrated made a hard day easier. The staff is super friendly, I am able to get appointments quickly without sacrificing care. My very nervous 8 year old cat was giving kisses to Dr. Friedman half way through his exam. I know how, when Dr. Friedman gives an injection he Pats and rubs the cat to help comfort and distract him. read more
