To be fair, the owner has promised the problem will be fixed tomorrow. I will update. Also, to be fair, my part of the blame is not listening to my instincts. I nearly backed out of my appointment and wish I had. I had a consultation with the owner, and that's where the red flags (which I dismissed) arose. I mentioned I had a major life event in a few weeks so we had to get this right. However, when I got to the appointment, more confusion because someone else was supposed to do my hair but she called in ... but I'd done the consult and made the appointment with him?? I can tell you now that during that consult I did not ask to look like the Heat Miser or Tigger the Tiger from Winnie the Pooh. Yet here we are. Originally, I have blonde in the front and it was growing out, and a *light* auburn all over. I said that's what I wanted. Just touch up the roots and color me *exactly* as it already was. Several times I said this during the consult. Apparently, several times was not enough ... or loud enough. At the time I was concerned that the owner was too concerned with telling me how great a job he would do, oh he had this grand idea (also said during the appointment), trying to be charming, talking a mile-a-minute and running around the salon, that he wasn't focused on what I was trying to communicate: basically what I wanted. I was worried he didn't L-I-S-T-E-N. I was right. He didn't remember what I wanted, didn't get any of the color right, and it was clear he didn't remember the consult or listen to me then or at my appointment. During the appointment, he totally forgot to do the front blond streaks, claiming he didn't know (how "I want the roots touched up *exactly* what I have" meant I wanted my hair darker and to grow out the blonde, I don't know). He then rushed around, slopping on some color all over my front hair, and the sides of my face. He went on to another color appointment while I "cooked." And cooked. And cooked. When they finally took out the foils, there was some blond, and ORANGE. Just ORANGE. I swear: Heat Miser. Meanwhile, I'd been there well over two hours. He promised to fix it, and I guess that would have been another hour, but I needed to leave. I'm not one of the idle rich who can dawdle the day away at the Salon. I also have health issues that need addressing throughout the day, and it was getting time to take care of that. I'd naively thought this could have been done in two hours. So, here's the thing: it will be someone else who fixes my hair tomorrow. Let's see how that goes. One concern I have is that he didn't listen to me because maybe he just took one look and decided he had a better idea and dismissed what I wanted. He was going to improve on my idea! If you are looking for a great haircut, look no further, Shimi is the best stylist you will ever find. I have curly hair and Shimi knew exactly how to cut it. He gave me a fantastic cut that I love. I went here on a Saturday with an appointment. It is very easy to set an appointment on their website. The place is not quiet by any means, it's bustling with activity and has great energy. My appointment was slightly delayed. Shimi was apologetic about the time and he and other stylists were conversing with me, so 15mins didn't feel awfully too long. A lady did my hair wash and it was 'Shimi~time'. He gave me a brief consult on how much he would cut and I was okay with that. He worked his talent and finished hair cut is super awesome! I had a cut and color with the owner. He didn't leave the color on long enough and it didn't cover my roots. He charged me and when I called to complain he said that they had a discussion after I left on how to do it better the next time. He knew that my roots weren't covered and charged me anyway! He also gave me a terrible hair cut. It is completely uneven in the front and back. I asked for a refund and he refused. He then hung up on me. I have been twice now to Salon Tel Aviv, once for a cut + color and once for a keratin treatment. It's a personal little place, only 2 chairs, with just Shimi + Artistea. They do an amazing job and I absolutely love the work, very high quality. Shimi is an outgoing + opinionated stylist, so if that's not your jam, this may not be the place for you. He will definitely tell you if something won't look great on you, but if you're flexible you will get an amazing treatment for your hair type and style. And great work does take time, so definitely don't schedule your appointment back to back with something (which is basically advice for all salon appointments in my experience). I will definitely be sticking with Salon Tell Aviv + Shimi for the future, very happy with everything. I love this place. I have had my hair cut by both Shimi and Ariste and been very pleased with the outcome! I have curly hair cut in layers, which I didn't realize was hard to cut, but it's been botched by all too many other hairdressers - not these two, though! They're both delightfully quirky humans; I admit part of why I come here is to listen to their funny (especially Shimi) banter and get to momentarily feel like I'm in that Adam Sandler movie "Don't Mess with the Zohan." (I'm pretty sure that character was inspired by Shimi, by the way.) I also appreciate that they don't pressure me into buying products. In this modern day of big corporate everything, it's refreshing to walk into a local business and work with real people who are invested in what they do and do it well. What a fantastic experience! The reviews were spot on. Don't be in a rush... enjoy the experience. Bring friends. Or meet new ones. Walk out feeling fabulous. Looking better than you imagined. I met some new folks, had great conversation, found a fantastic artist so close by, and spent time in a warm environment on a cold day. So worth it. And reasonable too! I'm so happy I stumbled on to this spot and Shimi. He doesn't just think about this cut, but the next few cuts to get you to where you want to be. I went in for partial silver highlights and a curly hair cut. Left the salon $200 later with my hair a yellow, sticky frizzy mess. Owner Shimi tried 3 times to fix the yellow color and then told me it would be my signature look like Cruella de Ville's gray streak. Styling products used were Paul Mitchell, not organic as advertised. The cut was cookie-cutter long layers, nothing specific to curly hair. Website says Shimi has 20 years experience when in fact he graduated from hair school six years ago. The experience is stressful as Shimi is bossing everyone around and fighting with employees. I asked for partial highlights around my face and he started foiling my whole head. When I questioned it, he said I needed full highlights. I was not expecting the extra expense nor was I offered a choice. None of my concerns or personal preferences made any difference as Shimi proclaims he knows best and is not afraid to tell you. I offered him the option of refunding my money since I now have to get a new haircut and color correction. He did not respond to my request. I will work with the credit card company to dispute the charge as the false advertising is why I went to the salon in the first place. Don't believe anything on the company website. read more
