Everyone who showed up were professionals and did their work quickly and efficiently over a four visit project spanning almost two months. After breaking up and removing the old asphalt, a base layer was put down and then had to settle for 4-6 weeks. In the meantime, we add brick pave edging and had the whole porch done in one long day. FYI, asphalt projects are dicy and depend to a great deal on the weather and tends to throw off the companies schedule. The work tended to drag a bit, but they stayed in touch and when ready, came and did the job to my complete satisfaction. I've worked with lots of companies in the area and Fifth Ave is a top notch firm.

The owner agreed to come by to look at it and was unwilling to hear any of the concerns. He offered to put more sealant on the driveway for an additional fee (over $150) after saying it looked like there was too much sealer on the driveway to begin with. How is this a resolution? They installed our driveway 6 years ago and have been the only company to touch it since. Very disappointed to say the least.

They installed the retaining walls, cleared out all the debris, and put down barriers and crushed rock. They also removed a long row of hedges and poured concrete that matched my existing decking perfectly. Given the tight spaces around my pool and all the flower beds, my yard was extremely difficult to navigate. Despite the challenges, they went above and beyond. At one point, I thought I had a pool issue, and even though it wasn't his responsibility, he came by in the evening, dug out the lines, and tried to troubleshoot the problem. I can't thank him enough for the peace of mind that gave me. I'll admit--I was nervous going into such a big job with a company I'd never used before. He let me express my wildest dreams, while still letting me know what is realistic, how certain things should be done, offered his opinion/suggestions but would never try to push anything on me! He never ever ever once acted like a salesman! If anything he did his best to keep me within my budget LOL. My husband appreciated that! But it's hard especially once you see their work! I was adding on things right up until the last day and bless Nick, not only did he not want to kill me but he was more than happy to do it all! But the best feeling in the world was once everything was done (around like 4pm so everyone was out walking around/coming home from work) the amount of COMPLIMENTS WE GOT!!! THEY DIDNT EVEN GET TO PULL THEIR TRUCKS AWAY FROM THE CURB BEFORE THE COMPLIMENTS STARTED ROLLING IN!! They put on a show for us and my whole block and EVERYONE was all to excited to see the finale! And boyyyy did the people let us know how happy they were for us (and their increased property value!). It was a very refreshing experience seeing a team show up at 730am, prep the site, start by 8am and end by 5pm. Everyday. Until the job was done. AND THESE GUYS PUT IN WORK!! OMG!! Communication = A+ you will be informed/updated about EVERYTHING and if you have questions, the response time is impeccable! Rain, shine, didn't matter these guys hustled! Every guy on this team was the utmost respectful to the point where, I was doing a walk around with Nick on the final day and the second I entered the backyard, all men stopped work and just stood at attention. I had a very unusual experience with Basic Landscaping. I hired them to plant trees and shrubs on…read moremy property and signed a contract for $53K. When they were done, they charged me additional $2300 for planting extra plants, which was never discussed with me before it was allegedly done. Nevertheless, I paid additional money without saying anything. At the end Basic asked me if I wanted to sign a maintenance contract. I declined because it was very expensive considering the amount of work being proposed, required inclusion of lawn maintenance (I do that myself), and also had language regarding dumping yard waste on my property. The biggest issue I had with Basic was that they planted the wrong trees and refused to replace them. The centerpiece of my landscape design were three trees with bright yellow and red leaves. Basic planted a green leaf variety of the same tree, completely ruining my landscape design intent. When I complained about this, during the warranty period, Basic initially tried blaming me since I did not sign a maintenance contract, probably assuming I was too ignorant to figure out what happened. When that argument did not fly, they tried blaming the plant material supplier, which again had nothing to do with a $53K planting contract I had with Basic. Finaly, after many months of stalling, they said that I complained too late. I understand that sometimes mistakes happen, however I found it unusual that a contractor who made a mistake would aggressively attack me, in writing, and refuse to do anything to correct a problem. Additional to the problems described above, another Basic proposal, to address the lawn flooding issue, had a ridiculous solution - move the water from one end of the lawn to another, and the proposed price was incredibly high considering it involved two guys with shovels for a day.
