REVIEW FOR: THE HAIR OF THE DOG PET SPA I had came to this groomer a handful of times when I used to live locally in the area. I had moved to Costa Mesa and tried a few groomer spots, they just don't compete with this groomer. So today I had the free time to make the drive to this business. I called a few times and left them a voicemail when my call didn't go through. Since I couldn't get through, I went on their website to make sure they accept walk ins, which stated they do. So I was I was on my way. I arrived and the receptionist in the grooming salon was on his phone. I greeted myself and asked to check in my dog. He told me that they are not taking walk ins. I told him that on their website that they do which is why I drove all the way from Costa Mesa. Unfortunately, he still stood his ground and repeated no walk ins allowed. I was really disappointed because I love supporting this business and most importantly I drove a hefty drive to do so but got turned down. While walking to my car, Marcello the groomer stopped me and asked what services I needed for my fur baby and explained that he was able to take me. I was instantly happy!! He told me the services would be completed within an hour so I waited in my car in the parking lot to be able to immediately pick up my pup in consideration to Marcello in case his Friday schedule was busier than usual since it is 4th of July weekend. Our dog can be groomed while he's here for the next week!" And, we've been waiting for an on-site groomer so we can have our dog groomed whenever he is on site. So I walked back to the window and waited for help. Marc: (Acknowledges that I am at the window) Me: Hello! I want to see about having my dog groomed while he is here for the next week. Marc (direct tone): "When did you want to make the appointment?" Me: "He's here for the next week. Any time works." Marc (direct tone): You have to make an appointment. Me: Okay. What do you have available? Marc: July 9th. Me: Perfect. (Preparing to pay for the works!) Marc: What kind of dog? Me: Shepherd/Husky Marc: I don't groom Husky dogs. They are too much to handle. Me: (Completely bummed because I LOVE my dog and would pay for the works!) Marc: Have you groomed a dog before? Me: No. (That's why I'm asking for his services. My mechanic doesn't ask, "Have you ever tuned up w car?) Marc: No. I can't groom your dog. Huskies are too much to handle and it takes 2 people to groom them. Me: (I would've paid for another person to help groom our dog. I would've come in to help. But I wasn't offered anything except the direct/unwelcoming tone and demeanor. The sign for services didn't stipulate that there were certain dogs they didn't take (pic). This was the most unwelcoming and "not nice" dialogue I have ever had with ANYONE that has ANYTHING to do with pets. I respect that any business owner has the right to refuse service but this was a bit strange. Extremely pleased with the service. I boarded my cat here for two weeks over Christmas, and it could not have been easier. They accommodated my date changes and were extremely friendly and helpful. I could not for the life of me understand how this place got soo many positive reviews and then realized alot of it was for the grooming service. This review is for the boarding facility only NOT grooming or the staff. I came by to see the facility before boarding my pets. I am soo glad I did because I will NEVER bring them here. The tour of the kennels was soo depressing. It smelled awful and was soo noisy. The woman taking me on tour was speaking so nicely to the animals (she was really nice) but most of them were so anxious and scared and clearly hated being there despite what she told me (I work at an animal hospital and have for a very long time... I know what anxious, depressed, and scared look like). This place looks like a shelter... I really felt like I was wandering the cages looking to adopt one of these poor souls. The photos on yelp do not represent the kennels one bit. I suggest anyone who has boarded in the past or may board in the future to take a tour. read more

Our house was being fumigated so we dropped our cats off here. It was hard because the 7-8 years since we rescued them it was there first time away from us. So they were a little scared and the staff said they didn't want to come out and play. The staff are very friendly. We'll be back the next time we go away which is next month! read more

My dog didn't ultimately stay at this place and I'm glad she didn't. When I called to make the reservation I was given the list of vaccines she needed to be up to date with in order to stay, well, she wasn't, so I immediately called her vet and got her missing shots which were flu shot and one called lepto which according to my vet wasn't recommended to be mixed with other shots within a short period of time because it's strong and often makes dogs have bad side effects and I was so hesitant and felt bad to give it the go, I normally wouldn't because I don't want to make my baby sick but went on and did it anyway that was Wednesday Dec 15th and she's a very healthy dog so figured she'll be ok. Well, indeed she puked like 3 times, appetite gone, and overall she was feeling down which I felt bad for like my vet said if her symptoms got really bad I had 3 emergency vets I could go to if my vet was closed. So the day of the drop off comes Friday so only 2 days later and everything is up to date and then the lady says Bordatella shot needs to have been given within the last 6 months even though the one she got was for a full year (it's still good until March 2022) so officially she's still good on that according to my vet but lady on the phone I assume is the owner just rudely said it is not, she needs to have it within the last 6 months, I don't even think this lady is a vet herself as the website clarifies that there's no vet on the premises. Now, I'm not about to go back to my vet and put yet another vaccine on top of what my baby has already gotten and got sick from. I told her she's still good on Bordatella and I can show her prof but very abruptly said no and told me that is not her problem. Well, MY DOG is MY problem, you're just a damn business who don't have a personal relationship with my pup and you're only putting her in a kennel for the time being. This people don't care and clearly don't care what REAL vets say and recommend. I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

Dropped my dogs off here for couple days, glad I found this place it's affordable and the dogs were taken care of. The staff seemed to be happy about being around the animals as well. Minus one star for them coming home smelling unpleasant. I asked if they could give them a bath before I picked them up, unfortunately they did not have a groomer at this time. My pup isnt the most nicest when it comes to strangers but for some reason, he feels calm and at ease when it comes to Marcello. Marcello does an excellent job making sure my pup comes out smelling clean and looking fresh! Appointments are easy to make and he is usually very good about finishing up the job in 2-3 hrs which I really appreciate since my dog doesnt like to be caged up for too long. Marcelo has a private grooming spa behind the all star pet resort. I met him a few years ago at Affordible Animal Clinic. I had a German Shepard and Marcelo was the only person I ever trusted to groom her. I brought my dog Aliyah to Marcelo since she was a puppy. She recently passed away from cancer at the age of 4. I never took her to any other groomer because I saw how much my dog loved him. He has a true gift with dogs. I tell my friends he's a dog whisperer. When I realized my dog was coming to her last final days with me, I really wanted to give her one last good bath so she could rest peacefully. Marcelo accommodated her and when we arrived my dog melted at the sight of him as usual. The care, love and kindness he always gave to my dog is priceless and I will never forget it. I recently took in another dog that needed a good home. I brought her to Marcelo to groom, it was no surprise that she trusted him and was thrilled to meet Marcelo. I gave this place 2 stars instead of 1 because the woman running the place is so nice and because I suppose we could have had a worse experience with boarding our dog. We took our dog here about a year ago because it was less expensive than most other places. That should have been a red flag. When we picked up our dog, they didn't give us back his toy that we had left there with him. That wasn't that big of a deal, and had I realized it wasn't in the bag when we left they probably would have gone to find it. The bigger problem is that the poor little guy was INFESTED with fleas, and he is severely allergic to them. We had him on topical flea treatment, and he most certainly did not have fleas when we left him there. He also had a giant scab on his back that appeared to be from some kind of cut. That really concerned me. So his allergies were in full gear, which results in severe skin irritation, stubborn ear infections in both ears, and lots of $$ at the vet. So much for saving money by boarding him there! Would have been less expensive in the end if we had just taken him somewhere else. I recommend VCA Kennel Club Resort and Spa. More expensive but definitely worth it. read more

This review is just for the grooming in the back. I love the groomer, Leslie. My dog is not the most behaved dog when he's being groomed, so I always get antsy when I do bring him to a groomer. I've tried grooming him myself, but it's just so hectic. Maybe it's because I don't have the proper tools. Before coming to Leslie, I've taken my dog to a groomer in Gardena, a groomer located inside his veterinarian's office, and PETCO. The groomer in Gardena was wonderful, but I stopped going to him either because he closed or he was too far. The groomer at his vet's office was awful. When Maguire first came out, he looked so cute. I usually carry him out with me, so I didn't notice until we got home. My dog limped and whined every time he took a step. I looked at his paws and they were shaved down raw -___- Needless to say, I never took him back. PETCO was too expensive and took the whole day, so I stopped going there after his first session. I don't know how I found Leslie, but I did. I believe she's there from Wednesday through Saturday. She's open at 8am to accept her furry little friends. I don't know what time she closes or what time she stops taking in dogs, but she's told me before that she's stayed until midnight finishing dogs. I've come there enough times that she knows Maguire by name, so when I drop him off at 8am, she just asks for my phone number and lets him in. He usually gets picked up at 1pm. I don't ask for a fancy haircut. I just ask her to shave him down. After each haircut, she sprays Maguire with this unbelievably wonderful smelling cologne and a handkerchief around his neck. My dog's about 25lbs and his haircut is $35. read more
