I was unable to recover data from them in different ways. Disc one was an external drive that would not power on. I tried removing it from its external enclosure and powering it from another, more different enclosure to no avail. The system was indeed down. Disc two was an internal drive that used to be my C drive- my boot drive. I removed it from an old computer after it stopped booting and put it into an external enclosure. Several different computers (Mac & PC) would recognize it sporadically, though none could access the data on it- error codes always came up. Before I removed it, from the old computer, I tried booting from an optical disc and other assorted methods, many other assorted methods... I believe I was very thorough in my efforts. I sent both in and received near 100% recovery. They said it was 100% from one and 99.9% from the other but I am unable to find that .1%. I got all of this for just barely above the $300 price in their name (each, not total). So for about $600 total (including new discs on which my recovered data was transferred and return shipping) I got this incredible service. The total price I paid for both discs at 300DDR is less than I was quoted at several other places for one disc. At each step they were great communicators, from their receipt of the discs to my receipt of the recovered data. I called Jack and lucky for me he said to come over in a couple of hours. He has a nice, bright office next to his house, not far from the freeway exit for Trader Joe's. He's so easy to work with--smart, personable and clear. He knew exactly what needed to be done. I have a backup service, but having done a backup install before, I knew that would take days. Jack took care of everything and had my laptop back to me that same day. There is nothing like the security of knowing your computer is only in the hands of one trustworthy person instead of sitting in a backroom, handed off to someone you've never spoken to. Also, Jack is an authorized Apple tech and his fees are fair. He also helped me choose the right router (I was about to buy something I would have regretted).
