Now before you roll your eyes and say to yourself.. Is he being paid to write this review? Well sort of.. But not the way you might think. I was paid with respect, kindness, generosity and more than what my expectations were walking In. Hate being haggled? Hate feeling like your worthless for having to pawn something to survive? Hate the feeling that you walked away with not what you really needed? I know I do. I have sellers/pawners regret every single time and feel discounted by every pawn shop I've ever been to.. Until today. I can't emphasize enough how gracious the staff was and how grateful I was for walking in the door. If I had a need for more money right this second, I would go back just to experience what it's like to be truly valued. I'm in awe. I have a urge to go out and just buy someone I don't know something just to share the happiness I have right now from them helping me out. Crazy how they, without even trying and knowing really the impact that they had on my day, they were so kind without effort. I might have learned something today.. And that is.. Good honest reputable people exist sometimes without us recognizing them. So I am doing so now. So without wasting any more time. Thank you Sarah for your kindness. I live in Seattle, so I called and spoke to Wady about scheduling a time to drive down (3 hours) to look at his selection. Wady assured me that he would treat me like a family member and find the absolute best diamond available in the range I gave him (shape, size, color, clarity, price). He said that he would arrange to have at least 2 and maybe 3 diamonds for me to review. I thought that was a little odd, since the website appeared to represent an established showroom. When I arrived, I was surprised to learn that there is no showroom at all. I walked upstairs from the street and was met by Wady in a small office with a sliding bar door for security. There were some gray file cabinets, a couple of desks with chairs. His wife was there working on some papers. He retrieved 3 small envelopes containing diamonds he had ordered. He emptied them into my hand--no loupes, not even a black velvet background pad or a light to look at them. I asked for these things, and after rummaging through some items on the desks, they found them and set them in front of me. Only one of the three diamonds was within the price range I had provided him; the other two were well above my budget. I looked the stones over and decided to think about it. Wady kept saying I was under no obligation, but that he had "paid shipping costs" and "spent several hours" researching the very best diamond for me. On my drive back to Seattle, he called my cell phone and tried to convince me to buy the diamond I was considering. I told him I still wanted to think about it, and he was not happy. The next day (Sunday) I texted him a question about that diamond, and he responded that he wasn't in the office. No problem. On Monday, I called to ask him whether the diamond had any "bowtie" effect (an artifact that you can sometimes see in Marquise diamonds). He became defensive, told me "you want me to give you an education for free," and then when I pressed him on whether the diamond had any bowtie effect, he said, "yes, it has a small bowtie, but you know, you are dealing with a professional here; I am very busy and do not have time to talk with you." And then as I was answering him, he hung up the phone on me mid-sentence, and I never heard from him again. I later found a marquise diamond that was nicer in just about every respect (size, color, clarity, no bowtie) for about $2000 less, using the major online websites, all of which have very close up photography and videos that are even better than using 10x loupes in person. My girlfriend said "yes," for the record, and she absolutely loves her ring. Looking back, my personal impression of Wady and Northwest Diamonds & Jewelry is that this is a relatively low-budget, middle man operation, selling diamonds at a higher price than what is available in the market elsewhere. Perhaps most importantly, he became quite unprofessional in his interactions with me once I did not agree to buy his recommended diamond right away. I would just recommend doing your homework and shopping around.

After placing a large order, more than two weeks passed without any shipping update. It took three separate requests before I finally received a tracking number. Tyler assured me my package would arrive the following Tuesday, but when I checked the tracking information myself, it showed that only a shipping label had been created. The carrier had not yet received the package. Because of the delay and conflicting information, I requested to cancel my order. Tyler told me that wasn't possible because the order had already shipped, even though the tracking information clearly showed otherwise. After asking to speak with the owner, I spoke with him briefly. Our conversation focused solely on how I wanted my refund issued. There was no discussion of the conflicting shipping information or the concerns that led me to cancel the order. Since I had paid by credit card, I requested that it be credited back to my card, but I was told a cash refund would be easier. When I picked up my refund, I was handed a large amount of cash with no receipt or documentation. After counting it at home, I discovered I had been shorted by more than $200. I immediately contacted the owner and returned to collect the remaining balance. Again, I was handed cash with no paperwork. Since the beginning of this issue, I have requested three separate times to speak with the owner to provide feedback about my experience. Each time I was told he was unavailable, in a meeting, or out of the office. Despite those requests, I have never received a return call. The true measure of a business isn't how it treats customers when everything goes right--it's how it responds when something goes wrong. I chose to support JRC Gold Exchange from the week they opened because I believe in supporting local businesses. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling that a year of loyalty and more than $11,000 in business were not met with the level of accountability, communication, or customer care I expected. I will do business with Portland Gold Exchange in Sellwood going forward.

Went there to buy a gold coin and 20 sliver coins…read more The vender went to the back and weighed a tube of sliver coins and told me there were 20 in it. I foolishly did not count them myself. When i got home i found the tube only contained 19 coins. Called the vender and asked him about it. He claimed it weighed correctly. So i now have 19 coins instead of the 20 i paid for. No big deal but made me lose confidence in the store.
