We stayed at a fantastic hotel overlooking this restaurant and it seemed busy and food looked good so we decided to try it out as our last meal in Rome. From the beginning it felt like a tourist trap and the food and service proved correct. Our waiter "Sami" suggested a "wonderful wine that is not on the menu but very good". I politely declined and he brought out another bottle and tried to open it at the table but I told him that I didn't want any wine and preferred a beer. He said, "okay if you wish" and took 15 minutes to bring me a beer that I didn't have any choice on. When we ordered our food, we asked for the bruschetta and he said you sure you don't want the caprese salad? I told him "no, just the bruschetta" and he walked away annoyed. At this point i was annoyed that this guy was consistently trying to upsell me and get me to spend more money when we weren't even interested in what he was offering. The food finally arrived after 45 minutes and was decent (we ordered lasagna, a pasta with mushroom and prawns, mushroom risotto and pesto) and the food was fine minus a very undercooked risotto but the service just rubbed us completely the wrong way. At the end of the meal Sami came to us and gave us all including my kids a card with a qr scan to leave a review and said "leave us a good review on google now". I smiled and nodded and he tried to insist we leave a review now before we leave and said connect to WiFi so we could show him. At this point I just told him "no" and he stormed off all annoyed and took his qr cards back. Then he comes out and brings the card reader to pay and insists on a tip (this was the very first time anyone insisted on a tip the whole trip) and when we scanned our card he signed it himself and added a tip instead of letting us. I don't know what this guy's deal is but please PLEASE avoid this place and don't believe the reviews saying Sami is great, he's just pressuring people on the spot to leave a review. There are so many great restaurants in the city, choose any over this place. Worst case if you have to eat here, make sure you don't get Sami as your server. read more

Whenever I'm in town, I make a point to visit Ristorante Alla Rampa. It's always been a convenient spot with consistently great food, which is why this recent experience was so disappointing. Unfortunately, both the food and the service fell far below expectations. I was unable to find the seafood dish I had in mind, so I ordered the fettuccine bolognese--typically a reliable choice. However, the dish was underwhelming: the sauce was overly runny with very little meat, and the pasta itself was undercooked. The service was equally frustrating. Our waiter seemed more focused on upselling prosecco than providing attentive service, persuading us to order a bottle that was significantly more expensive than what we originally requested. To make matters worse, it was served barely chilled. When we asked for it to be cooled, the ice bucket brought to us contained more water than ice, which did little to help. Trying to get the check became another challenge. Despite the waiter passing by our table numerous times, we were unable to get their attention and ultimately had to ask another server for assistance. Only then did our waiter return--with the bill and a request for a tip. Overall, this visit was a major disappointment. 10/10 experience. Alla Rampa completely exceeded my expectations. I ordered the FETTUCCINE ALFREDO made with just fettuccine, butter, and parmesan, and WOW. Proof that when simple ingredients are done right, the result is pure perfection. The pasta was perfectly cooked, incredibly creamy without being heavy, and the parmesan flavor was rich, silky, and absolutely heavenly. Every bite melted in my mouth. No extras needed, no distractions, just flawless execution. This is classic Roman-style comfort food at its best. I used to come here with my aunt and uncle ( real Romans) for years. It was great BUT NOT anymore. It is now geared towards tourists with inflated prices and rude unprofessional waiters( including Sami) who are pushy and push for a review and an American style tip. I will have to cherish my beautiful old memories because the decline of this restaurant is heartbreaking. Food quality declined too. read more

My family and I decided to have a late lunch at Alla Rampa after visiting the Spanish Stairs. To say that I am disappointed is an understatement. I wanted to try out a restaurant that served steaks because I wanted a break from the Pastas and Pizzas. Ah man what a huge mistake that was... The server was clueless and didnt know what was good on the menu. He brought the food out then disappeared for a while until it was time for us to get the cheque. After a long day, Mr. Q and I went to the restaurant nearby the museum with the longest queue. Normally, it works when we don't check Yelp/TripAdvisor reviews. However, this place is simply awful. And the host who walks around doesn't help much either when you ask him to take an order. He then mumbles something back in Italian and walks away. But he never gets english spoken waiter to take orders. I'm extremely surprised that people who work in a restaurant in a busy tourist area don't speak English at all. If you speak Italian, you get seated quickly, but if you don't? You will watch people who come later, cut the queue and get in without reservations. Service is extremely slow. Tap water is not free. ---Bread: Outdated bread and soup sticks. They put it on the table as if it's free. Other people didn't touch much either; they recycled a lot of bread, then sell the bread to the next customers. We have a slice of bread that looks like someone else touched it before. Ugh. --+Raw beef carpaccio with grapefruits: It's a nice bite if it's not too sour. Together with the arugula and grapefruit, the beef is completely flavorless. --+Lamb brain croquettes and fried zucchini: Lamb brain croquettes are just fried lamb brain with a flour coating. It's a bit gamey, but it's textured nicely. It's like eating fried meat tofu. Fried zucchini is nice too; there is too much zucchini than lamb brain croquettes. ---Veal with mushrooms: Inedible sour dish with chewy and dry meat. Steak: Steak came out with a layer of super salty bacon. It's terrible. Probably the worst meal since we've been here. This place is an obsolete tourist trap. read more

Absolutely not. Two words... food poisoning. I normally always check reviews but after a long day, sore feet, and a rumbling belly we just opted for alla rampa. Boy was that a mistake. We ordered rosemary steak and chicken parmigiana. If two dishes could be slathered in sauce and still somehow taste like nothing, it would be these. I questioned whether I was in a simulation where food doesn't actuallu exist. My parmigiana was a few broiled cutlets slathered in a cheese sauce? And it gave me food poisoning, which was a great end for our last day in Rome. :/ Everything was overpriced, servers weren't especially friendly, and food was awful. One star for location. read more

Alla trampa over here is a huge tourist scam. Don't go here because they will take advantage of the fact you are a tourist. Ordered the lamb pasta and i had more shattered bones than actual meat inside. Literally one bite of meat and 10 spoonfuls of shattered fragments of bone. At the end of the meal, they will even have the audacity to ask you for a required tip. They will try to play it off like oh the service charge wasn't included. When no one else had to pay it. Just avoid the place they have marked up tourist prices too for meals not even worth it. Save your money go somewhere else. read more

i dined alone without reading prior reviews save for the recommendation of a friend who gave me a long list of Roman restaurants. It is pricey for sure but the waiters are seasoned and look dapper in their white jackets and black bow ties. I had the Carpaccio di Manzo with rucola e parmigiano. The portion was generous and with great balance of flavors. My main was the Spaghetti Vongole which I ate every last noodle of. It was superb. not very heavy as other roman pastas tend to be - the sauce was quite delicate and refined in fact. I am seeing a lot of negative reviews on the service. Fortunately for me I was treated with much courtesy and attentiveness. even jovial with each other, with other customers and with me. I will surely recommend and return as well. read more

Being seated inside was a very refreshing touch to the area around. Fitting in around the atmosphere was a fancy touch by the waiters and servers in great clothing and great personality's. The service was very good, straight to orders and very fast about getting us our food. Heading into the food portion was 5 great spaghettis. A great marinara and basil touch to the tender spaghetti. A good ratio of sauce to pasta as well. If the bread was a little softer then I would be able to dip and eat with the sauce but kind of hard which is docking it a little bit. Charged us for the bread/oil fee even though we did not touch it, and to top it all off they charged a 10 Euro "tax" in cash even though the service charge was already included in the bill. We spent 10 days in Italy and this was the only bad meal we had. I ordered the linguine with crab, which was a half of a crab on top of linguine. Normally I don't mind cleaning crab but the taste of the whole dish was awful - I only took a couple bites. This was honestly the worst food I've had in a restaurant in probably years. We had also ordered a zucchini appetizer and spaghetti Bolognese that totally lacked flavor. The service was also poor. The only beers were German, which I found very peculiar... and now I know why - definitely only targeting tourists. When I told the server that my dish was bad/didn't like it - he just said "ok" and then brought the check (and he repeated me so I know he understood what I said). We chose this place because we liked the vibe from outside as it was lively... but Do not waste your time or money here. The restaurant was pretty empty so it was very easy to be seated immediately. We were immediately given bread with our meal. Little tough and dry. Even if you don't want bread you get it and €1.50 is added per person to the bill. A common practice in Italy Started with the Caprese salad. Tomato and mozzarella with fresh basil, doused in a nice olive oil. Very good You will notice there is no picture of this because I inhaled it before I thought to take a picture. It was as beautiful as it sounds. Trust me. I had the spaghetti bolognese which was very tasty and my girlfriend had the seafood tagliatelle which was the star of the night. Absolutely fantastic. A couple of drinks and our bill was €60. Not bad But why the 3 stars you may be asking yourself. The service was way off. I was part of a party of six, we were in the vicinity of the Column of the Immaculate Conception. Considering the area was swamped with tourist, I am assuming that the Ristorante "Alla Rampa" is a touristy restaurant. The ambience was pretty cool. The response time of our server was OK. I wasn't too thrilled about the way my pasta order came out (seemed not cooked enough for me), but upon returning to the US, I was told by a fellow American that Americans doing know how pasta should be prepared.
