This place is great. I got all my veggies and herbs here and they're thriving. I took away 1 star because I think their staff could be WAY more helpful. Also if you're going in there for more than a few things - which I was - it's not very easy to lug a cart through the greenhouses, nurseries and storefront. I'd suggest they offer to hold items at the front for people who are doing a lot of shopping so they don't have to lug it around like I did. All in all I'm really glad I came here for all my stuff instead of going to Home Depot. read more

So so so so cute! Very cute farm with fun items and great holiday products (so many pumpkins for Halloween! and the shop inside has really unique items). I even went for a hayride this fall around the farm on a tractor and got to see their two big cows (steer?) (they're right next to the parking lot). It's pricier than getting a pumpkin from the grocery store but it goes to a good source, supporting mom and pop/local businesses. Everyone I met there was very nice. I even met the owner and she was absolutely lovely! Definitely going back for their great service and fun environment...and obviously the hayrides! read more

Allandale Farm is like an oasis in a sea of city concrete. Once I get there, I breathe a sigh of relief. It's just nice to be on a farm. They sell really yummy home grown fruits and veggies and other local products. Occasionally they have fun events with live music, like cider tasting, that bring the neighbors all together. I would give them 5 stars if they came down a wee bit on price. I'm happy to pay more to support the farm, but it's hard to cough up $7 on a small bag of chips. A good way to avoid the higher prices is to keep your eyes peeled on sales - sign up for their email list and you will get notification of their end of season discounts. read more

Bought a beautiful Christmas tree, door wreath, and fresh boughs this past weekend. The staff wrapped it, carried it to my car, and tied it to the roof for no extra charge. They even had warm cider to sip while I was browsing. So glad this place is near me! read more

Boston's only farm! This place is truly a gem for this city. It's beautiful and quaint and full of plants and produce! Seriously, there are rows and rows and rows of flowers, vegetables, greens and fruits to grow, you'll totally get inspired to grow your own garden, even if it's an urban one (they have pots for you, too, apartment dwellers!) And I'm not saying this because I have some friends on staff there (who keep a beautiful goat and some cute chicks and are learning to keep bees!), but because you just feel good when you get out of your car at the farm stand. The staff is very knowledgeable and the selection is great. Also - you're truly shopping locally! Go green! read more

I can't imagine why someone would not give this place 5 stars! Maybe becuase it's a little spendy? But I mean, c'mon, it's a FARM in the middle of BROOKLINE. How awesome is that? It's so pretty too, and has fun herbs (I'm looking at you, pineapple mint) and even some farmer's market foodstuffs. It's hard to get more local than this place. I live a mile from Allandale and I can't imagine ever moving. The staff is amazingly friendly and knowledgeable and the plants are always in great shape. We own a 1/2 share of the CSA and the summer flower share. We buy our Christmas tree in the winter and the worst time for me are those first few months of the new year when they are closed for the winter. This is a true Boston gem. read more

Inspired by this week's newsletter on farmers' markets, I have to give a thumbs up to Allandale. They have a limited selection, but they only carry super high quality veggies and fruits. I prefer that over having to weed through a lot of junk for the one good piece! There's also a greenhouse with plants/flowers and nice pottery. If you go try the Maine Root sodas; they are out of this world. [ The ginger ale is tangy, sharp and - how incredibly - actually tastes like ginger ;). ] read more

I gotta tell you - I feel bad for giving it 2 stars, but it's meh-I've experienced better (which I believe is a 3 star rating maybe), but this is what I feel. I have become obsessed with farmers markets - and I went because this is so close. This is a great flower market, yes - but as far as produce goes, I've seen better. Their tomatoes are good, but other farmers markets offer up to 7 types of tomatoes at my disposal (yum variety!). Their blueberries were not good at all - they were sour and I can buy that at the supermarket. Their white currant was horrid period - so sour that I felt I was eating lemon. Their portobellos were good. That's it? Sorry, Allandale, thanks for the produce but I will not be back (too expensive). read more

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas now that we've picked up our tree from Allandale Farm! Their selection of Christmas trees is really amazing and a fun experience that got our whole family into the holiday spirit. We bought a cute and relatively inexpensive Alberta Spruce table top tree since we typically spend the holidays in the Midwest with our relatives, but they have some truly grand specimens as well. In addition to the trees, Allandale has plenty to deck the halls with an ample selection of beautiful and amazing smelling holiday wreathes in their Christmas shop, as well as holly, stockings and a nice selection of affordable ornaments (we bought a bunch that were only $1 each!). Over the summer I visited them at the Roslindale Farmers Market, and of course was pleased by the beautiful selection of produce. We also got our thanksgiving turkey through these folks and boy. My 4y and her 7y old cousin loved the camp. When asked what a typical day is, camp director John Lee replied, "well, they could look at a worm for 5 minutes or 25 minutes-- it's hard to say!" I love having a farm (almost) right in Boston. Definitely hands down the best corn in Boston. They have a nice selection of baked goods and can also be counted on to have some interesting native plants for sale. I am not sure if they still have them but when I used to go there as a kid there was a chicken coop. Watching them fascinated the younger version of me and gave me something to do as my parents shopped. read more

Being from western Mass originally, I had missed being able to go to farm stands and buy local seasonal fruits and veggies. So I was very happy to finally find Allandale Farm! We just went and got our pumpkins there, and they had a great selection. We've also gotten some delicious fruits and vegetables there before, along with a jar of amazing local honey! Aside from the fresh fruits and veggies, they also have a ton of plants and gardening supplies, as well as locally-made baked goods. I don't drive, but whenever a friend offers to give me a ride I say "take me to Allandale Farm." I wanted another bee-attracting plant for August and found a perennial "Blue Hobbit," which has purplish blue spiny flowers. If I had $10 for every perennial that I bought from Allandale Farm, I would be a rich man, but then I would not have beautiful flower beds. I'll take the beautiful flower beds, thanks. I live in Groton, MA and Allandale Farm organically farms the fields right behind my house. The farmer Ethan and his crew are very friendly. Last summer one of the workers gave me some corn. It was the best corn ever. Very tender, juicy and full of flavor. Organic is the way to go. They don't use any pesticides or cow manure (thank God) which is a blessing since the fields are about 50' from the house. I wish they had a stand in Groton. I believe they are the only large organic farm in Groton which allows agriculture by right. read more

i am totally hooked on allendale farm. i feel like i'm out in the country yet it's minutes away from home in jp. i don't buy too much food there, aside from the occasional crescent ridge chocolate milk for my hubby. but when it's planting season, i've been known to frequent allendale multiple times a week. i actually got "shut off" this spring : ( in the summer, i love the flowers and try to get all my perennials at allendale. every flower i have purchased has done really well. you can't say that about home depot flowers, which are a total mixed bag. the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. they have good variety and everything always looks healthy and well cared for. in the winter i have gotten a few christmas trees here. they have always done well and are beautiful. the salespeople are super nice and will tie it on your car. plus they have a bonfire and cider! so cute you will pay a little bit more at allendale, but the quality is worth it plus you're supporting a local business. sounds good to me! read more

I was surprised to see a farm so close to Boston. The card I picked up says it's Boston's only working farm left, and I believe it. Nice place. Absolutely packed, almost too packed so we had to circle around several times to look at displays. Lots of plants and it felt very garden oriented. Interesting selection of ice creams. What my friend and I decided to try though were the muffins. We got one with huge chunks of plum that was absolutely delicious.The other was labeled as grapefruit but it was orange. I thought it was great though so no complaints. $3.50 for two home made muffins was more than reasonable. The lines took a little time to get through, like I said- it was packed. I wish they had a bigger selection of home made foods like chicken pot pies but they did have a ton of stuff packed into a somewhat small inner store area. I will definitely stop by again when I'm passing through! read more
