Unfortunately my schedule was tight, so I went to Bonny's on a busy Saturday afternoon. There is parking on the street, so I had to park a five minute walk away, near the corner. Usually I love to poke around a nursery, but I didn't feel comfortable in such a crowded space. After making my purchase, I asked for help to bring the plants to my car. I have known Bonny's for forty years now, and would trust them with my life, and my dog's life. A deeply established nursery, Bonny's is casual and prolific, and it's a pleasure to learn from Sal and Joe with their vast knowledge and different styles. Bonny's has been in the family for quite some time --it's unique, well-stocked, quirky, trustworthy, and of course practical. Over the years I've come to love this place. Joe and Sal have been kind to me (and to my dogs Buffie, Dash, and Finn). They have big hearts. But they also have smarts and know-how, experience, patience, and thoughtfulness. And they have best "lived in" office you'll ever see. Now that I no longer have my own garden, and live across town, I don't have the short walk down Garden Street to their magical garden. But I go there regularly and like to stop for a chat, and maybe buy some geraniums, ferns, or pansies for my little square of earth next to the sidewalk. And. of course, Christmas is a tradition at Bonny's. It's practically a religious ritual. I've never known such a friendly, knowledgable, gentle business. read more

This place has a super generous and friendly owner, a nice little selection (space limitations have me wishing for more sometimes). We picked up some basil over the summer and flowers. We got lots of basil from our plants so that was good. It's close by for city people so that's an advantage. Saving trips to more suburban larger garden centers. read more

I've been going here since I moved to the area in 2010, and while everyone else I know seems to go to Mahoney's - I like this small, family run business for my own personal gardening needs. I know very little about plants, so every time I go here, the fellows helping me out are always helpful and I get wonderful plants each time. They are also honest... they care more about you getting what you want/need than they do about getting your money, which is what keeps me coming back. (I'd rather not go to Home Depot, and wait a few extra days for a new shipment of soil to come in). Their prices are also reasonable, and they seem to have a lovely selection (without being super knowledgable about plants, that's what it looks like to me, anyway). read more

Anyplace that treats my little grandson with the respect and love the way that the crew at Bonny's does every time he goes there earns as many stars as the scale will allow! We went there today to select a small Christmas tree for my son and daughter-in-law's apartment, and the place was abuzz with activity. Despite the busy time, Sal (the owner) and his guys treated my grandson as if he were the most important client of the day! He has visited there with daycare classmates from the school at the end of the block and they recognized him immediately, gave him some free stickers and let him climb behind the wheel of a giant pickup and honk the horn. They chatted him up and made him feel like he was part of the great family that has run this highly regarded small local enterprise for decades. What a welcome discovery today to find Bonny's Garden Center! After visiting Home Depot and NOT finding what I wanted, I asked Siri for garden centers near me. Up popped Bonny's. I had never heard of this place but decided to give it a go. Thank goodness I did. Tucked behind the rotary near Fresh Pond, Bonny's is a calming and sweet oasis. The place has such a great vibe - so different than the sterility of Home Depot. The people are so kind, and the plants are so beautiful - this place is just plain happiness. I got this random idea that I wanted an indoor lemon tree. Yeah, a lemon tree.. inside. So I stopped by on a whim to see if I could find one. The guys there seemed gruff at first, but ended up being super helpful - telling me exactly where to go and giving me detailed directions on how to get there. I walked in this week and saw two beautiful trees I had been wanting for ages just waiting for me - a white lilac and a Japanese Maple - in all their splendor. Find nicer guys. Just try. This market offers exceptional plants in that they tend toward being well-rooted and not root-bound. This is rare for area nurseries, and I peruse them all. They'll help you carry your stuff to the car without expecting a tip and can likely answer any question you may have related to how best to grow your perennial, annual, small tree or shrub. If I could give 10 stars I would! The customer service at Bonny's is incredible! We bought a Christmas tree from them last week and for some reason the Christmas tree kept falling over (this has never happened to me and I'm def not a Christmas tree rookie!) so I called Bonnys to see what I could do about this issue, and Saul (I hope I spelt it right) the owner sent someone to our home to fix it immediately. Their primary concerns are the people and the trees! The nice gentlemen, Kevin, came by with a saw and a new stand and we all thought at 5pm when he left that it was all fixed and sturdy (it appeared that way!), well around 9pm I was laying on my couch and the huge tree fell on top of me! I was shocked to say the least! I called Saul back and said I DON'T WANT THIS TREE ANYMORE, IT ATTACKED ME! Saul asked if I was ok and if everyone was out of harms way if we just prompt it up for the night because he said he was sending some guys over the next day to help. I was so shook up about it I had my husband deal with it (who is Jewish and didn't want a tree to begin with). Well the guys came by the next day and worked with my husband while I was out. I came home and the tree had been completely swapped out with another and everything totally secured and perfect! I am so glad now that my husband, who knows how much I love Christmas, didn't let me get rid of our tree all together. I know it sounds like a simple story but the level of customer service that Bonny's showed us is something I wish every vendor displayed! The fact that Saul would risk being short staffed during the busiest time of year bc my Christmas tree was trying to fly the coop by sending men over to help far surpassed any kindness and care for people I have seen in a very long time. Bonny's truly made our Christmas holiday cheerful again, and not only that but my husband even says we are only working with Bonny's from here on out when we get our tree each year! This place is truly as good as it gets!!! Growing up in Cambridge, my family always came to Bonny's for our Christmas trees. I just moved back to the area with my 3 yo son and took him there for our Christmas tree this year. We were going to just get one at Home Depot, but I thought I would give Bonny's a shot because I knew it was a little more "Christamsy." Not only was our tree a few bucks cheaper than Home Depot, but the service and Christmas spirit was incredible. I will forever go to Bonny's for our Christmas trees. They were so good to my son letting him help pick out the tree and cut parts of it. They don't do the shots of wine in the back like when I was a kid, but they made my son feel that special Christmas warmth. I wandered in because I have an issue with my poor Ming Aurelia dropping all its leaves, and the sort of cranky-seeming man told me he doesn't know anything about indoor plants. But then he spent a significant amount of time writing down phone numbers of places for me to call who DO know about indoor plants while asking me questions about bugs and watering. I had decided to repot anyways, so I bought the stuff I needed, and he told me if I called the other places and they said not to repot, I could bring the stuff I bought back. This is by far the best place to buy a Christmas tree in the Cambridge area. My husband and I just bought our tree and it was such a pleasant experience. They had a great selection of trees, wreaths, and accessories - all at reasonable prices. As other reviewers have said, the service is the best. The man who tied the tree to the car did an expert job, the cashier was so sweet, and the men up front looked everywhere to find a door hanger for my wreath.
