    Red Chilquiles con borrego

Food and Service is amazing here. Came across this little place after finding out Corazon at Casa Frida no longer opens at 11am on Saturdays. This place is a must, food is very delicious here, had to come back the next day with my dad. Oscar the owner was very attentive and recommended to get the Chamorro de puerco on my next visit. Had the red and green chilaquilles, had the machaca plate and the barbacoa plate all were great. Can't go wrong with the food here. If you like coffee then I would recommend on ordering the cafe de olla

Drove across the border and looking for a brunch joint. When we pulled up I wasn't sure the shanty was the restaurant, but it was, and if you have never eaten breakfast in a filthy old barn, this is your chance! 45 minutes into a 15 minute wait we were ready to leave when they called our name. At least I got to hang in a hammoc on the front lawn... Could have used some more info about the menu, but the staff wasn't very friendly or helpful...so I ordered the eggs with chorizo dish, which was very good! Seeing what the next table ordered made me upset because it looked so much better than the basics I ordered. Ambiance is filthy barn, service left a bit to be desired, and prices were as expected... this joint does not make the list.

Amazing food! One of the best pancakes I've ever tried. The ambiance is nice and cozy. I felt like I was eating at my grandmas house, with the amazing loving and welcoming aromas coming out of the kitchen. The staff was Avery polite and attentive. I will define tally come back.

Cute little mom & pop restaurant for breakfast and brunch! Large parking lot and little play area for kids. Super cute outdoor patio and waiting area with chairs, benches, and hammocks. Checked our temperature and supplied hand sanitizer upon arrival to maintain Covid19 regulations. Food was amazing! All authentic mexican dishes. Produce comes from a local farm. Reminded me off my grandma's home cooked meals!! Service was great, they offered and explained everything on their menu. They had freshly squeezed orange juice- SO good! Aguas frescas made daily and OMG their cafe de olla im not a huge coffee fan but when in Mexico I try cafe de olla everywhere I go. This is by far the best I've had!! I didnt have to add any sugar or milk/creamer. It was just amazing with their canela flavors!! I ordered chilaquiles, half red & half green (to try both) with a side of eggs and beans. It was so yummy I finished my plate! We also ordered eggs with chorizo and a side of beans and potatoes- also very yummy!! Cant forget the handmade tortillas made fresh to order!!! My boyfriend is traditional Mexican and loves spicy salsas with everything. The waiters brought him their homemade salsas to try. He enjoyed them so much we purchased some to bring home with us! Overall GREAT experience!! This lovely place made us feel like we were in our grandma's kitchen! HIGHLY recommended!!

Don't get fooled by the way the outside looks. Inside the place is clean and has a nice Mexican vibe. Food was very good and service was great.

Great food, lovely ambiance/customer service. It was a bit of a wait, but it's not a huge place and understandable. I'd definitely remind giving this place a try.

10/10 food!!! Better breakfast than anywhere I've been to in all of los angeles, texas and new york. The BEST item is the lamb! It's the best lamb I've ever had. You'll thank me later. Small hole in the wall, ifyyk energy. Will come back.

We stopped here for lunch and the food was incredible. We had the Borrego al Horno en Hoja de Platano and the Orden de Quesadillas. The area was great and very authentic, and the waiters, chef and owner were all welcoming. Definitely recommend and will be back here if I'm in the area.

The absolute worst service I've ever had in a restaurant. The waitresses are horrible and inattentive. Avoid at all costs.

I enjoyed it, I just wish it had less hominy. They had baked potatoes, hot dogs, empanadas, beef stew with potatoes. There was an omelette station that was working at a fast speed. There was a dessert station of sweet treats. I believe I paid $140.00 pesos for two. The baked potatoes were loaded with sour cream, butter and bacon bits. The empanadas were good but could use more seasoning inside. There are pancakes, fresh fruit and Mexico rice. If you enjoy coffee this place has a great brew. I wish the set up was different. They have the omelette station with people waiting where the menudo station is. A lot of foot traffic. The service was just ok for me. At least from the drink person, I was almost done eating by the time I got my drink. However everyone else was awesome! I was expecting something different because of the name. On weekends, they feature a premium all day menu that includes all you can eat crab legs. Between the cold and warm crab leg options, I found the warm ones to be superior as they're less salty and much more flavorful. The buffet offers a solid variety of Asian fusion staples, such as fried rice, orange chicken, and honey shrimp, alongside a surprising selection of sushi and decent sashimi. My personal favorites were obviously the crab legs, stir fried whole mushrooms, clams, string beans, and the scallops with vermicelli served in the shell. The service is quite attentive; the staff is quick with drink refills and clears finished plates promptly. They also provide practical extras like crab crackers and disposable gloves. While the dining area is spacious and relaxed, I would suggest skipping the dessert section, as those offerings were not appetizing. Overall, it is a reasonably priced spot for a wide variety of food in a comfortable environment. A solid 3.5 stars.

If you are visiting double check the temperature of the sushi, the texture of the chicken, and mold in the fruits. There was also cream cheese ragoons, I was wanting eat but as soon as I took it apart there were black spots in it , so I set it aside. Something we ate here was just not right as our entire family is experiencing sickness. And I put buffet in quotations because it's not actually a standard buffet, but more of a sit down "all you can eat". You need to be at blue card level (2nd tier level) to gain access to the buffet but they sometimes will let new people or red cards enter if they aren't busy. There's also a mandatory $8 (recently raised from $7) tip per person that's dining. If you're not black card (highest tier) you usually have to wait 1-2 hours before even being called to get in line. Then you have to wait in line 20-45 additional minutes before being seated. Black cards get to skip the initial wait and go directly into the line to wait to be seated. Once you're seated you get to choose a soup, salad, or both and then wait for them to bring you the food. Then you have to wait again for your server or try to flag one down to place another round of orders. On average my family has noticed people usually only do the appetizer round, one or two main rounds, and dessert because of the long service times. My family averages around 4-5 main rounds so we sit there for 3-4 hours sometimes with the majority of that time just waiting. The service is the main reason I say this place is hit or miss. If you get a nice and attentive server then everything goes great, but some of the servers are very noticeably there to just do the minimum amount for the job and that's it. Some servers will listen to your orders and actually tell you what additional options there are (like for the lobster tails we didn't even know until months later that we could get it with garlic butter or different sauces on top of it), and some even go and get the food to bring directly to you if they notice you've been waiting too long. Others.. will look around and barely hear what you're ordering and get the whole plate wrong or forget items for your order, resulting in you only getting 2 or 3 of what you asked for instead of the whole 4 that you're supposed to get. Or sometimes the opposite happens where they bring 2-3 of the same item on one plate and none of the other items that you ordered. It's already bad enough that most of the time, the servers only come to your table every 30-45 minutes so you're waiting an incredibly long time just to get one plate of food. The best times to go are definitely the weekdays very early right when they open (if you're not a black card) and the worst times are Fridays and weekends. They also have a recommendation to not have groups larger than 4 because they either split you up or you have to wait an extremely long time for a table to accommodate your group (because they only have 2 tables for large parties). They honestly should just turn the cafe dining room into an additional dining area for the buffet since that space goes wasted after they close and the cafe is literally right on the other side of the wall of the buffet. We've been coming here every other Friday for the drawings for almost 2 years now and the service is so inconsistent but the food is great! There has only been one time I was served a rancid lobster tail and almost threw up in the dining area. The menu changed last month and we tried the new tenderloin, it was absolutely perfect. But then a few weeks ago we tried it again and it was served well done even though we all asked for medium rare (and that's the last time we ever ordered the tenderloin because of that). One problem that happened the other day though was that the people doing the seating weren't seating any of the black card line. There were 8 tickets lined up and only 4 for the other line, but they kept seating the other side and kept putting up a new ticket. The group in front of us had 2 disabled people waiting for 30 minutes (and one of them was missing a leg). I felt so bad for that guy. The explanation was that "we have to follow the timestamp on the tickets to seat people fairly" but hello??? We're not blind. No one was being seated in the black card line for 30 minutes, even small groups of 2 that were in front of us started complaining. I don't understand the "timestamp" bs because we can actively see people getting in the other line, paying waaaay after the 3 groups ahead of us AND us, and still get seated before us. A group of 5 that paid after us in the general line got seated before any of the 3 groups ahead of us. It was just ridiculous but was a one off bad experience compared to the hundred we've had but thought I'd mention it. We still love coming to eat here because the food is great and consistent and almost all of us are black card members so we get food vouchers, but the service definitely needs some improvement or at least consistency equal to the food quality.

For starters, this place is Michelin recognized, and was rated best breakfast in the world in 2015…read moreby FoodieHub. I told myself if I'm ever in the area again, I have to make an effort to eat at this place. Well, the opportunity arose as I was staying at a nearby winery. The biggest problem I encountered was finding a ride to get to this restaurant. Taxis are nonexistent in the area. Ubers are only in the area when someone from Ensenada requests a round trip to the area, so no they are not available to others. Therefore, I expressed my frustration with the front desk at my winery hotel and they took on the task of finding me private transportation. About 40 minutes later, they called my room to inform me that they located a driver. Unfortunately, he requested an inflated price for the to and from the restaurant. Private drivers down here know that you have few choices, therefore, they can ask inflated prices. Yes, I was in a pickle, but I really wanted to go. I did not rent a car because many of the roads hug cliffs and everyone drives fast, because they know where all of the mountain curves are. Being from Chicago, where we also drive fast but don't have mountain cliff roads decided to play it safe and let others do the driving for me. Anyhow, I debated, and in the end agreed to the expensive terms because when I going to get the opportunity again to eat at a place rated best breakfast in the world? How was the breakfast? It was absolutely delicious, everything was made from scratch. I ordered the cafe de la olla which interprets into coffee from the pot because typically it is prepared with raw sugar (piloncillo), canella (cinnamon sticks), and orange zest. How was the coffee? Delicious. I had some machaca (small bits of dried beef) with eggs which came with delicious refried beans. I also ordered the excellent chilaquiles with an egg and a side of bacon. I also needed to order the one thing most talk about on their menu which is the corn bread pancakes. They used the recipe for a typical corn bread sold down here called pan de elote to make the pancakes, and yes, they were excellent. Turning the batter from this recipe into pancakes was a brilliant idea. Also, I cannot leave out the great tasting freshly made corn tortillas that came with the food. The tortillas down here taste different from the ones back in Chicago because down here a white heirloom corn is utilized rather than the sweet yellow dent corn from the Midwest. Was it the best breakfast that I have ever had in Mexico, or anywhere else for that matter? Well, it definitely lived up to the hype the breakfast was amazing and I do highly recommend it. If you do decide to visit, my best advice is show up early because a line forms very early. I have been lucky to have also had other amazing breakfasts in Mexico and other places in my travels. The secret to this restaurant sits right behind it. On the restaurant grounds is an active ranch, which also doubles as a small zoo, where they source their milk and meats from. Yes, they raise their own animals which later become items on the menu. Does that fresh matter? Yes, it absolutely does make all of the difference. Does it sound cruel? Well, that is a whole other conversation. Let's just say the animals are treated humanely. All of the livestock looked happy as they roamed around the grounds. Unlike the way livestock is treated inhumanly in the United States in dirty overcrowded housing where some never get to see the sun or roam freely in the open air. Livestock in the US are constantly given antibiotics and growth hormones, also fed gmo feed with questionable health implications for those that consume them.
