Allegria is located in the small town of Carbondale. It's between I-70 and Aspen and anyone traveling to and from Aspen needs to make the detour and stop by here! Food is delicious, service is amazing and with the owner Benoit working there every night, you can see the passion in him and his staff. I ordered the Arancini and the Linguini alla Vongole. Both were flavorful and fresh and delicious! Topped off the meal with a tiramisu and I gotta say it was a favorite of mine! Usually most places have so much rum that it over powers the dessert, this one was perfect. Creamy, just the right amount of sweet and so good. It's a must! Fantastic Italian restaurant right on Main Street. Our server Katie was fantastic, so was rest of the staff. Very accommodative of our 4 year old, gave her crayons etc. The cocktails, baked mushroom caps with burrata, crab stuffed shrimp, kids pasta (cheese tortellini in white sauce) and the chop salad were all great. Their home made bread and blackened salmon special were not that great, but overall the dinner was great. Wine bottles were priced well. They even had a Dom 2009 holiday special for $250 (retails for $180+ usually). So not bad! Metal straws showed their environmental friendly attitude (all good scraps get composted as well). The interiors of the restaurant were cozy, neatly done. It's a small place overall so reservations are recommended. Would go back again anytime! read more

I was really anticipating a nice meal and a decent experience. Service was off and the timing of the kitchen was a nightmare. After we ordered drinks I was about to give our waiter our first course orders and she insisted that we give her the entire order "so the kitchen can time it properly ". BIG MISTAKE! Four out of six entries came out and after sitting there staring at each other for about 10 minutes I finally asked someone where the other plates are. Our waiter come over and mumbled something dismissive and I reminded her that she insisted we give her our entire order so the kitchen could handle it properly. After getting the manager over and another 15 minutes the two other entries arrived and this is where the dinner became insulting. For $80.00 the steak was improperly grilled and greasy and the "lobster"...dare I call it that, was an overly cooked, stale, mess. Truly disappointed. My husband and I picked this restaurant to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary. We showed up early and let them know we had arrived. They mentioned they could not seat us until about 5 min after our reservation time which we were fine with. We had a drink a couple doors down and came back. They didn't have our table and we waited another 20-30 minutes. We went ahead and left because we felt we had a reservation and were not provided updates, etc. after we had been told it wouldn't take very long. Somehow, at my recent visit to Allegria, the outstanding staff, ambiance and cuisine all triumphed and culminated at a superlative level. Chef Andreas Fischbacher and his cooks served up a house specialty, the beef stroganoff, a dish that still vividly occupies a pleasant food memory for me, something hard to achieve, as I travel out of state, and eat out seemingly more than not. What a masterful dish. I confess: it's been over a month and thus, I'm ill prepared to discuss its nuances and specificities. I would heartily recommend that and when dining here, getting to know the staff. They are wonderful. A couple gripes: the servers were rude. They treated us like second class citizens because we didn't have reservations. We waited until all the people with reservations to eat and leave, with no complaints. Last I checked you can still wait for a table at a restaurant. My parents do not drink. At all. My dad ordered an ice tea. It was a strange tasting fruit tea, I didn't like it, but he's not picky. It was not refilled or even offered to be refilled the whole time we ate. Last we asked about the desserts and when we didn't order one the server had a bit of an attitude. Would I go out of my way to come back here? No. This place was recently featured in 5280 restaurant as the place to dine in Carbondale. Maybe if you've come from aspen and are wearing head to toe designer everything.. This place was simply amazing. My wife and I made reservations for our anniversary and couldn't be more pleased with the choice. I really wish I caught our server's name (shame on me) because she deserves recognition for being on point, super sweet and all around amazing. Kent, who I assume is the bar or front of house manager (both?) was also an amazing host for the evening offering compliments and recommendations. Overall, you can tell the staff takes pride in their jobs, which is a reflection of the business culture and amazing food they serve! We had the Lobster Ravioli, Osso Bucco and Tiramisu. All absolutely to die for, but the Osso Bucco was by far the best I've ever had! And the bone-in veal offered a delightful little treat of buttery smooth marrow to slather over a piece of cheesy bread from our bread basket. We will, without a doubt be back someday. We wanted to love this place, but sadly it fell so short. The reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because the Lobster Bisque was seriously the BEST Lobster Bisque I've ever had. The bread was great, and the house made pickles were lovely. Also, we really liked the friendly back-waiter. The decor is super cute, and Allegria seemingly has the bones of a good project. Our issues were 2 things: The entrees and service of the main server were seriously lackluster, especially given the high expectations set by the light, frothy, deliciously nuanced flavors of the lobster bisque. Let me start with the service. When she got my daughter's drink order wrong, it was no big deal. However, she seemed unapologetic and lazy about the other mistakes. We explained to her ahead of time that my son won't eat a kids pasta with green mixed in. So when she forgot to make a note of that, and his pasta arrived with fresh basil on top and an unnecessary unusually large topping of Italian parsley, she tried to make it our problem: "I mean, I can take it back to the kitchen...if you want." She then tried to claim that the obviously fresh chunks of basil mixed in there were "just a part of the chef's sauce". Um, no. I'm a home chef. When I cook herbs in the sauce, they are more a muted green - mixed in color, not bright green, just thrown on top. She also had to be reminded about the nice bottle of wine we ordered. When my husband had to ask her to bring the wine, her response was: "Oh, I'm not good at multitasking." Wow. Regarding the Entrees, my husband ate his Veal Piccata, even though it was under seasoned, over breaded, and uninspired. My kids looked at me regarding their kid's pastas, and said, "Mom, this is bad." I tried their pastas. How hard is it to make a simple tomato sauce? It was flavorless, watery, and had an odd flavor. Even the meatball was unseasoned and had a strange watery consistency. My butternut squash ravioli was horrid 5 ways to Sunday. First of all, the ravioli was dense and overstuffed with a cloyingly sweet butter nut squash concoction but nothing else. There was no redeemable sauce, yet no salt element whatsoever. The Brussels that accompanied the dish were random, unincorporated, and all together lacking flavor. Speaking of no flavor profile, the sausage, if it could be called that, - that was promised in the dish was just sadly hanging out on the side of the bowl. It was weird, and it didn't taste good. At that point, we just asked for our check and bailed. The chef seemed nice. He came out to thank us for coming. We should have said something, but we were just exhausted from being stuck on the mountain during a thunderstorm and just wanted to leave with our remaining wine packed up so we could cut our losses and go get something else to eat. The apps were outstanding, the staff, nice enough. Entrees need work and salt big time. read more

Tonight this place was rockin! Busy and lively. We started with the butternut squash bruschetta no lardons, a beet salad and a watermelon salad. Oh yea the fried ravioli. A fresh fish special tonight rock fish was really tasty, a big piece of the fish in a tomato sauce with some clams and mussels on top. A linguini with clams was shared with our kids, a chicken picatta with pasta on the side, a cacio e Pepe with a lobster tail amd a spaghetti pomadoro. All were really great. Prepared with love. The setting is warm and inviting. The Caesar salad was good. The veal was heavily breaded and then deep fried, and tasted even worse worse. The baked eggplant Parmesan was mush. The lamb Bolognese was horrible. The bread served in a paper bowl with sub par oil oil was more fitting a bad pizza joint. No cracked pepper for the salads. The service was amateur, and even unprofessional. $6 for a 2oz side of cold mushroom sauce that tasted terrible. I keep giving Allegra a 3rd and now 4th try....it keeps getting worse. Issues with service, communication re: food allergens, price, attention to detail, and taste = one star. We ordered curbside pickup for dinner tonight. I get to the restaurant to pick up my order and they said I had already paid...I hadn't. I gave them my credit card and said to double check. They brought the check and asked for my ID for the bottle of wine which I provided. Then when I went to the back of the restaurant to pick up my order (I saw that it was ready) the manager or chef (older guy with grey hair in white jacket) gave me an attitude and asked to see my ID. I was about to get it out again when a waiter told him everything was already set. Older guy then told me I needed to pay, even though I had already done so. I told him I would show him my signed credit card slip but the young waiter again told the older man that I was good to go. I thought the attitude was a bit much but was willing to let it go. I just wanted to get back to our room and relax! So I asked if the gluten free instructions were followed, they said yes, smiled, and I left. When I got back to the hotel, I realized they hadn't provided any flatware or napkins. Fine. Grabbed some from the hotel. Got back into our room and realized the to-go packages they put the food in were NOT appropriate. The mussels had leaked through the paper lid, and all over the inside of the paper bag. I'm lucky the food didn't fall through on the walk inside the hotel! My husband's to go meal that he pulled out and rested on his lap for a minute leaked marinara through the ripped foil packaging. So now his jeans are stained, and we need more napkins. We start to eat and his chicken parm is bland and lukewarm. I take a bite of what I thought was gluten free bruschetta...and immediately question that it's gluten free. I call the restaurant and the guy who answered said it wasn't gluten free. I told them this is a big problem since I ordered GLUTEN FREE bruschetta. He says he'll get the manager, Andreas. He gets on the line and just says, "this is Andreas". I ask if he understands what is going on or if I need to start from the beginning. He said they would not issue a refund because the bruschetta is gluten free without the bread...and that they don't offer GF bread at the restaurant. WTF. The word bruschetta refers to how the bread is prepared. Literally you must have bread to have "bruschetta". So now I am eating some chopped tomatoes, burrata and pesto (they also forgot to add the balsamic reduction that's listed on the menu). The mussels were fine but you're supposed to have bread to soak up the broth! Lastly, I got charged about $10 more for the mussels than what was shown on my online order. No one pointed out that prices for online orders is different than when you pay at curbside pickup. I only figured it out after I got off the phone w/the restaurant once I looked at my itemized receipt. Over $100 for a meal that was lackluster, with a side of rude service. So I'm giving one star for the mussels and the bottle of wine - which turns out was the saving grace of our night. This seems like a cute space and we had high hopes. Maybe if you eat in person it's a better experience! But save yourself the trouble with curbside pickup...order elsewhere. read more

Meh...went in early on a Friday evening (5:30pm), restaurant was empty. We were asked if we had reservations, we didn't. They seemed hesitant to seat us (table for 5). After a moment, they seated us but made a comment that we must be through by 7:30pm as there was a reservation. One member from our group asked how fast their kitchen was! We order our food and drinks. Server was very good at explaining her favorites. But then asked if we wanted bread service. We didn't know what that meant. We were then told it was $1.50 per person if we wanted bread. That's odd...I've never been to an Italian restaurant that charges for bread. Maybe special garlic or mozzarella bread. Anyway, we all wanted some, so for $7.50 ; the table got bread. And the bread was just "ok". Nothing to write home about. I ordered the flat iron steak and frites. Steak was perfectly cooked. Fries had lovely seasoning on them. Friends were just ok with their selections. Nothing bad, nothing great. Service was fine. Maybe we went on an off night? We probably wouldn't return. read more

We had a wonderful meal here. The wine list is very interesting. Our meal started with some incredibly fresh warm rolls that seemed right out of the oven. We ended up sharing a Carbondale salad and the pappardelle pasta with lamb. Very fresh ingredients and pasta apparently made in house. Our waitress lacked a smile but was otherwise effective. Andreas (one of the owners) is the premiere chef, and does a wonderful job. He makes you feel welcomed, whether you are from the community or just visiting. Beyond the ambience (warm, inviting, friendly), the food is good. Tonight I had the most amazing meal there - and I have had dinners at top restaurants from all over the world. We had three items on their special menu - the trout, the salmon, and a pappardelle dish. It was fabulous - out of this world. If I had only one complaint, it would be that there was too much food. It was so good that I felt compelled to eat more than I needed. Wine list is good and very reasonable. This should be a must stop location. I had heard great things about this restaurant and was exceptionally eager to try it. I understand that most restaurants are short staffed right now, but the wait staff here could not have been worse. My party ordered entrees and and appetizer and when our entrees arrived our waitress announced that she wouldn't be bringing our appetizer since we had already received our entrees and there was, "no point in bringing it out" (we still wanted it). I ordered a chicken dish and wound up with shrimp on my plate (I'm allergic). The manager was apologetic, but on top of this, the food was downright awful. We never received a water refill either. I hope that the new management is able to turn things around as this establishment has a decent reputation, but my experience was anything but that. read more
