It says reservations suggested as it's the 'fanciest' restaurant among the few. Our waitress was kind and attentive, she was fast and efficient. We were given olives and focaccia bread for a small appetizer. We ordered the penne pasta and a cheese pizza. The menu was pretty traditional Italian and the drink menu was big. This was my 3rd time being here. This time I opted for the Duck Breast w/ Sweet Potato Cappelletti. It was FANTASTIC. The duck was cooked perfect, but the Sweet Potato Cappelletti was such a unique flavor & texture I my mouth had not had the pleasure of trying before. I cannot recommend this dish enough! Il Poggio is nice, and the place is comfortable, and our waitress was sweet and helpful throughout the meal. Blue Moon on draft was a plus. They bring out Italian bread slices to start - a nice touch, though fairly standard. The standout was the grilled chicken Alfredo pasta (not on the menu, but they were accommodating). It was made with linguine and a lighter Alfredo sauce that was flavorful without feeling heavy, really well done. The Bamboccio pizza was also very good. We split both, and it was the perfect amount. The food was okay. We ordered the bread. It was nothing special. They didn't even pour our olive oil and balsamic for us. We also ordered the shrimp linguine and octopus salad. Food was very good. We shared daily special of spinach salad and snapper as well as penne from the menu. Unfortunately the waiter thought we wanted the penne and the snapper brought out at the same time so we had to send the snapper back and when it was brought out after we finished the penne it wasn't very hot. Also it was described as being a whole snapper that was deboned. It was not a whole snapper. It was a filet and it was poorly deboned because I got four bones that I had to remove from my mouth and almost swallowed. Plus they did not provide the price of the snapper special which ended up being $88! $88 for one filet of snapper! Why should I have to ask for the price? Someone came out who I believe was the manager and she was very concerned about the issues we had so we appreciated that. She provided complementary tiramisu and espressos which were also very good. We would definitely come back again for the quality and taste of the food. They just need to do a better job training their waitstaff. read more

Went there yesterday and what a disappointment. The food was horrible and way overpriced. I ordered a dessert to wash away the dinner and that was horrible as well. When we went back to our hotel and ask the front desk if anyone else complained she told us everyone thinks the food is horrible and overpriced. Will never return! Under new management. They no longer give you complimentary home made bread. The food is bland & tasteless. The butternut sage ravioli used to be delicious, & now it just tastes oily & has no sage in it. (They only give you 5 pieces of ravioli that cost $35) The spaghetti bolonaise tasted like ground beef with no spices. We ordered the veal, but received a pork chop. The owner tried to pass it off as veal. She couldn't even apologize for the mistake. We ordered 3 cocktails, & had to wait 25 minutes for the other 2 to arrive. The filet was $86 & had no flavor. The entire experience was such a let down, & the management could only make excuses. She could've just apologized & comped us a dessert or something. This place is located in the Snowmass Mall, only a few minute walk from the Viewline Hotel. Thankfully we were able to make last minute reservations because the place was packed on a Sunday night! So definitely make reservations in advance. Sean ordered the salmon special with a side of butter pasta and I ordered the cavatappi pasta (think fancy macaroni) with tomatoes, garlic, basil and olive oil. There was also some drama that happened at the table next to us where I believe the manager had to get involved and it seemed like he handled it very well. To start... The food was really, really good. The service was very poor. We waited almost an hour for our food, server did not even check on our table for 35 minutes, then just a random sorry your food is late and left before we could say anything. Not only was my salad 1/2 the size of the same type of salad I used to order when the former owners ran the restaurant but the pizza( which used to be so good) was expensive yet tiny and dried out. I'm sorry to say this but I could never recommend Il Poggio to anyone any more. They have gone so far down hill that they most likely will go out of business soon. read more

Not sure why this place has inflated good reviews, as all the recent ones seem to be really poor. For starters, the waiter was way too close for comfort and was stumbling around while walking. Created a very uncomfortable environment. Our food took about an hour to get, only two pastas, no appetizers. A group in front of us got their order first despite them having a larger order. The food itself was extremely underwhelming. Despite the overhaul of ingredients (outnumbering the amount of actual pasta), it was bland with just an unsavory combinations of mild flavors. The only thing really keeping this place in business is its location. What a cluster-f*** of a meal. We could not get a reservation last year so we were so excited to go this year. What a disappointment. The food was generally ok. The service was terrible. The table wasn't ready for when we got there. We paid $80 for a rubber lobster tail with pasta. And as a bonus it had a hair in it. It took over 2 and half hours to eat. I was expecting a nice, Italian dinner with good service, unfortunately they didn't have either. The place was full, so perhaps they just cater to a different crowd. The food was mediocre, the wine was meh, and the restaurant needs some remodeling, better furniture, and more air flow, it was stuffy. Our server was nice, but she didn't know much about the dishes, there were no check-ins when food was served, so from a service standpoint it didn't meet expectations for the price point. The food was really the part that was awful. They didn't put in the effort or felt like they cared. The beet salad was beets, with some sweet dressing and arugula on the side that was dry. Not sure how you can call this a salad or be an Italian restaurant. The tuna tartar was very dry, the tuna just looked frozen and sad, and the whole thing fell apart. The halibut was dry, the crust was weird and it was very bland. It was a really badly conceived dish. The worst of them all was my husband's pizza, that looked like something that was microwaved in a movie theatre. Considering that Snowmass is close to Aspen proper, it is truly surprising how mediocre are the offerings in the former. Tonight we returned to Il Poggio for probably the fourth time. Each time we are amazed at how full the restaurant is considering how mediocre is the food. The food comes out of the kitchen and tastes like someone showed the cooking staff what it is supposed to look like and told them to duplicate it. Forget about taste. There isn't a single dish that would be not be benefitted by looking at a Marcella Hazan cookbook on how to cook Italian food. This evening we ordered Negronis to start, they never came, and it took a couple of reminders to have them served, and then they came mid meal rather than before. A special of the night was garlic toast served with a whole head of garlic. This is a simple dish where the head is decapitated, lathered with butter, wrapped in double aluminum foil and cooked for 45 min. or more so the cloves ultimately spread like butter. This version was undercooked, so the cloves did not spread at all. We ordered another to accompany our main course and discretely told the mairee d' they needed to be cooked longer. The second batch was no better because the person responsible simply put them under a broiler, not realizing the head needed to slow cook for many more minutes to achieve butteriness. This isn't haute cuisine, anyone can successfully do this at home. Our main course was a garganella, literally a tubular pasta with bolognese sauce. There are a couple of ways to do this- simmer chopped beef with herbs and flavorings for hours or use cheap hamburger meat and make forgettable meatballs Of varying shape and size and add a little flavorless tomato.stock . I'll Poggio opted for the latter. There really is no competition in Snowmass. The restaurants are all really mediocre. That may be the reason I'll Poggio survives. I don't want the restaurant to die, I simply feel ownership should get a kitchen staff that can produce really good Italian foods read more

Totally agree with Kate B. This place only exists because of its location. The food is Italian in name only and the pasta dishes are better made in 24hr road diners albeit they are priced at fine Italian restaurants prices. A six inch frozen thin crust pizza priced at $25 is a real ripoff. And a bowl of chopped beef with poor quality sauce and pasta at $35. Was another ripoff. We came with a group of 8 people. The food was excellent, and the service was impeccable! Best meal we had in Snowmass.

Made a reservation for a Friday 6:30pm, but when they called to confirm the day of, we changed to 6pm. We ordered the gnocchi, seared duck breast and prosciutto pizza with a glass of cab between two people. I really enjoyed the olives that come out to start and the bread. We got two servings, because my boyfriend loves bread. When the waiter came back, he said "that's probably enough bread right?" Which doesn't seem harmless, but I thought it was kind of rude and assuming lol All the food read delicious, but lacked salt/flavor IMO. Good wine pour, or maybe because the stock glasses are small. I also didn't like that when the hostess greeted us "good evening" and I said "hi good evening" she didn't say anything back, just stood there. I replied "reservation for Claudia?" And then she walked us to our table. Like um how about a "how May I help you" or "do you have a reservation?" Il Poggio was great, my wife and I had a really great meal and surprisingly it was a very reasonable price. The Apps were great we got the Burrata and split an App Portion of toe Cavatappi. I got the Gnocchi with Veal for my main dish which was alright, I probably wouldn't get it again but have a feeling when I come back and get something else this review will be moving up to 5 Stars because all the food around at other tables looked amazing. We ate at il poggio for dinner one evening and it was yummy! They started us off with some bread and olives. For dinner, we ordered appetizer versions of the bolognese and the ravioli and the dustino pizza. The pizza was so good - had a little bit of a kick, was crispy, and the flavor was on point. My sister really enjoyed the ravioli but I found the ravioli to be a little too thick and sweet. The bolognese was good, but the noodles were lukewarm in comparison to the sauce. For dessert, we split the olive oil cake which was okay. Loved the combo of macerated berries and cake but the cake was a little dense for me! read more

What a disappointment! My family and I dined here over the weekend and it was so mediocre. My mother-in-law had the shrimp pasta. The shrimp was totally over cooked and rubbery. My dad got the lamb, awful! I had a pizza that was more burnt than not. My mom did enjoy her pizza and my husband liked his halibut, so at least 2 of the 5 liked their meals. Been coming here for years and it has significantly fallen off. 1.5 hour wait for the meal that was overpriced and underwhelming.

The manager cannot manage a restaurant. Such a disappointing night. A table for four. The dishes came to the table one person at a time. Each person ate before the next dish arrived for the next person. The calamari was sliced like thin radishes. The bolognese was inedible as they layered it with a 1/4 topping of bad tasting panko crumbs. Clearly not real Italian food. The manager said thanks for the feedback as he would like to let the kitchen know. He took zero accountability for his restaurant and blamed it all on the kitchen. I was not there to help them improve service or educate them on how to service quality food. Clearly the manager is a newbie or an utter failure at knowing the restaurant business. Yes we paid full price and took care of our server as it was not her fault that she works with an incompetent management team and kitchen crew. I can assure you nobody there is actually Italian. . If you want Italian go into Aspen or choose something else entirely. I have only written 2 slightly negative reviews in 30 years. This is just an honest assessment and hope you and your guests can save yourself money and more importantly have a good experience dining out. All the best. read more
