We visited over Winter Break and tried Sage right after Christmas, as a family of five. We were all impressed and highly recommend visiting Sage...a great 4 star experience. Food was very good and service (Gray was our waiter) was excellent! Our favorite dishes were: Wedge Salad, Crab Cakes, Ahi Tuna Tacos, Short Ribs, and their ice cream and churros were fantastic! Had dinner at Sage last night and found it be an overall good experience. Servers were responsive and friendly and the 4 entrees we tried were well prepared with a very nice presentation, albeit unsurprisingly expensive, considering the restaurant is located in the Snowmass Club. The Elk in particular was excellently prepared and delicious. The sides and appetizers were somewhat less impressive - the lobster risotto seemed heavy without much flavor and the arugula salad was absolutely loaded with beets, which one may not be expecting. With regards to the atmosphere, considering it is late December in Aspen/Snowmass, presumably one of if not the busiest time of year, when nearly all the restaurants in Aspen are fully booked, there were shockingly few customers, leading to a somewhat awkward feel. The Snowmass club itself is beautiful and luxurious but the restaurant decor is a bit lacking for character. Overall, a nice place for dinner with good food, but given the variety of other great options in Aspen at roughly the same or lower price, it would be hard to recommend as a first choice. read more

I'm shocked to see that the Sage has 3 stars -- this has been a 5 star institution for myself and my family for the past 15+ years. First -- special order the broad (it's free, but you have to ask for it). It's focaccia rolls, and it's absolutely to die for. Arguably the best bread I've had at a restaurant. Ever. Second -- the chicken tortilla soup is everything you've ever wanted in a soup. It's thick, it has a generous helping of chicken, it's flavorful but not too spicy. It's such a "wow" dish that I even order it in the summertime. Third -- the deserts. Holy cow. The ice cream and sorbet here are homemade, and they are absolutely superb. If you're going to come to the Sage, don't miss out on the delicious desert! Fourth -- the ambience. The patio overlooks Snowmass mountain, and it's one of the best views you'll see in all of Aspen valley. There's a reason why the Sage is a common spot for weddings-- the view is unparalleled. I'll split the difference between the other two reviews with my rating. I was a guest at Sage three times; each experience was quite different from the last, leading me to believe that Sage has many identities, some appealing, some less so. Lunch: Sage for lunch was excellent. Based on this meal, it was a 4 or even a 5. The soup du jour (carrot ginger) was AWESOME and the serving was huge. Even so, I was sad to finish it because my mouth loved its taste. On the waitress' advice, I ordered the half size on the chicken caesar salad. She was right: it was enormous. Although it was delicious, I could not finish. My dining companion had a burger and fries that also looked really good (the fry I tried confirmed it). Service was excellent. Bar: We returned to Sage for after-dinner drinks around 9:30 to learn that they closed at 10. No matter, we got bottles of wine and relocated to the lobby so we weren't in the way. That is, we got bottles of wine after finally getting some service at the bar. An irate German man ended up shouting something about missing a bartender to catch their attention (it was funny at the time). A little after 10, they shooed us out of the lobby saying the staff could not go home until we did. We were not allowed to take the glasses for our wine, so ended up having our drinks out of paper cups they provided instead. This was probably a 2 experience. Take out lunch: I placed a takeout order by phone an hour in advance. When I went to pick it up, I don't think it was ready. It took the girl a long time in the back to bring out my quesadilla. Based on how warm it was, I don't think they had made it before I arrived. This is sort of good from a freshness perspective, but sort of bad from a service perspective--I told them I wanted it because I was heading to the airport and didn't have a lot of time. The quesadilla was pretty good (not exceptional) and I loved the salsa it was served with. My conclusion? Go to Sage for sit-down meals. That's what it does best. read more

I've been going to Aspen/Snowmass since I was a kid. My family was once a member of the Snowmass Club. Now we own a property in Snowmass and occasionally want to have a nice cozy meal without the Aspen scene. That's when we head to the Snowmass Club. It remains cozy and charming, but the positives stop there. We went there for Thanksgiving dinner. I suppose it is hard to get experienced help at the beginning of the season. I imagine that cooking a mass of food (it was very full) to be served over 3 hours is difficult. However, if those challenges can't be overcome, don't do it. We ordered a bottle of wine as soon as we sat down but it wasn't served until we were nearly finished with dinner. We poured the entire bottle ourselves. Our water glasses were empty after the first fill. Our plates weren't cleared until we asked for the bill. In short, the service was awful. As for the food, the turkey was average. The potatoes were okay. And the Brussel sprouts were awful. The best thing about the meal was the apple pie crumble. I know the recent review that gave this 5 stars has to be planted because they said it was a "good value". Even in the best of times when they were on their game I would not say they were a value (it is Aspen/Snowmass afterall). However, what we paid and what we got was an outright rip off. We should have ordered pizza. read more

Mike Ferro makes or breaks this restaurant, he gives 5 star service to his customers, actually he wasn't even our waiter, saw we were missing our sides & promptly delivered them to our kids with a smile. Mike is definitely the best waiter/pool side bartender I've ever experienced in my 25 years of living in Aspen. This is what the service industry should be all about. Sage is a nice concept in a nice spot but execution is brutal. We enjoyed some champagne and nice wine but when the dinner came the disappointment started. I ordered a selection of fresh Colorado meats including elk sausage, fillet and something else. The waiter said the chef recommends it medium. Oh dear, not a good sign. We ordered sauteed spinach as an accompaniment. My selection of meats was medium alright, if you consider medium dry and overcooked. I had about two bites of each and stopped eating. The spinach was good if you're suffering from some kind of acute sodium deficiency. There was so much salt we gulped water to get the taste out of our mouths. At $230 for two of us I would strongly recommend you go elsewhere unless you prefer badly prepared, over-salted food. read more

I've eaten here about 15 times. There have been a couple of times (mid-April, big seasonal turnover of staff then) when the service's been off, but in general the food's good. I've had the mixed grill two times and it was good (I'm sort of a medium-rare kind of guy, maybe some weird alchemy happens beyond that, cannot comment.). I've had most of the menu and been pleased. Wine list has some finds, mostly in the French end of things; cannot comment on domestic. Got pushed out by a big party and they walked us, with a nice bottle of wine. I seriously think the other review may not be representative, maybe I've been lucky. read more

Your heart goes out to the chef. He's producing quality cuisine. Without good service, though, your customers will never be happy. The food was great, even meriting the prices in this uber-inflated culinary market. The service was geologically slow; after we decided to ask for the check it took twenty minutes, and two other servers, to find our waitress. Sage was a great spot for a break after some snowshoeing. Nothing wrong and In-line with Aspen pricing. But not overly impressed

Recently visited Sage over the winter holiday break with my family. We wanted a nice special dinner in a lovely setting to begin our vacation. Instead, it was an utterly over-priced disappointment. We had a reservation, and the menu looked appealing. However, it took our waitress 15 minutes to bring our drinks, we had to flag multiple wait staff to get bread and it took over an hour for the entrees to come out. Clearly, the entrees had been placed under the heat lamp in the kitchen because all taste and moisture had been leeched out. The food - filet mignon, lamb, chicken wings and squash cannelloni - seemed to have been microwaved and then served. None of the staff offered to do anything to recompense for the time we spent waiting for food. Overall, this place is over-hyped and poorly run. I understand the service in the Snowmass area tends to be mediocre (having gone to multiple restaurants in the village), but this experience was incredibly poor. Sage is nice to look at - poor for eating. read more

Eat at the bar or on the deck in the summer for knockout views of Mt. Daly. Happy hour specials are excellent for apres-ski -- plus, you can find warm, fresh-baked cookies in the lobby after 4 pm during ski season. read more

I was hesitant to try Sage because of the mixed reviews but we were staying at The Snowmass Club and after a day of snowboarding we wanted something easy. I didn't have high expectations going in. What a pleasant surprise! The local salad was fresh and tasty. We didn't have to ask for it to be split ( we were sharing), they did it using common sense. My son's seared scallops were delicious. Other people enjoyed the braised beef short ribs, Maple pork chop, and chicken fingers (my 4 yr old). For dessert we shared the kids ice cream and cookie as well as the peanut butter and chocolate tort - all delicious! The service was very good and friendly. They brought crayons and a an activity menu for the kids. All in all, we had a very nice, enjoyable dinner. Won't hesitate to return! read more

Very casual and easy when staying at Snowmass residence club, kids can go play in kids club after ordering... Good wine list and food was a seven out of ten. They were happy to hold the meat on certain dishes for our vegitarrian friends and make special orders for picky kid eaters. Service was a six, not fast or professional but very friendly and polite. Dont bother to go out of your way to eat here if your looking for an exceptional meal. If you'er there already, it fits the bill for an easy night without taking the shuttle somewhere better. read more

Agree with this overall rating. Best thing about this is the location if you're staying close by and don't feel like jumping on the shuttle. Food just adequate and service a bit slow. After reading previous reviews about Thanksgiving dinner a year ago, I was apprehensive about going there this year. I was pleasantly surprised that the holiday buffet was exceptional and the atmosphere was extremely inviting. This reviewer would not give a 5 star rating unless the service matched the ambience and food quality. The selection was a little limited but there was plenty of variety to go around. The $75.00 per person for Thanksgiving actually seem like a bargain. Not only was it great they threw in the view for free. Many thumbs up. read more

Terrible food and service. The staff seemed overwhelmed and unable to handle more then a couple tables at once. For being a country club restaurant they should be held to a higher standard. Stains on the carpets was the first thing I notice. Plus all the staff wear black polos. Not necessarily fine dining. read more

Sage deserves less than one star. We went as a group of ten for a business dinner. We made our reservation several months ahead to make sure they could accommodate our group. The food was good, but nothing special. The service was HORRENDOUS. Our server acted as though even our most basic requests were a huge inconvenience to her. At the beginning of the meal, we asked the server if we could have separate checks. She said this was fine. When the time came to pay, she became downright belligerent. In a snarky fashion, she said it would "take over thirty minutes" to calculate the bills, which was a gross underestimate. It took over an hour for our entire party to get their checks, and most were incorrect. At the end, in her frustration (we actually stayed composed throughout this ordeal), our server threw one of the check folders forcefully to the middle of the table and sighed loudly. As a large party, we expected to have the usual 20 percent gratuity added to our bills. However, most of our group was charged gratuity twice (44%), especially unreasonable considering the horrible service. Also bizarre was the mix of inaccurate Spanish and English our server was speaking to us throughout the meal, despite not having any Spanish speakers in our group. Finally, I decided to speak with management. A very young looking and clearly inexperienced manager came out to talk with me. At that point, he should have assumed responsibility for the entire table, apologized, and personally handled the situation. Instead, he defended the server, stating that it was a "nightmare" trying to sort out our check. I assured him that his "nightmare" dealing with the our checks was much less of a nightmare than the experience we just had at Sage. read more

New summer features are delicious! We had the sweet miso glazed salmon filet with steamed broccolini to-go and it was perfect for an easy, healthy dinner. Proportion size was good and order was ready in 20 minutes. Definitely recommend! read more

Lots of Pretension, doesn't deliver. Three of us for a light dinner. Started off with an appetizer of deep-fried calamari; 2 of us thought it was poor, one thought it was okay. Inconsistent cooking, some tender, some hard; spicy breading that was not good... hard to mess up, but they did. On to the $16 hamburger. After explicit instructions as to "rare", it arrived overdone. The waiter noticed, asked if I wanted it replaced, I was hesitant but he insisted, so back into the kitchen it went.... and the improved version arrived more than 15 minutes later, after the others at the table had already finished theirs. Cooked correctly this time, but even so the meat was fairly tasteless. The bar was so limited as to be a joke. 3 domestic lagers -- Bud, Bud lite, Miller (I think), one local lager, one local amber. That's it!! No IPA's, no ales, no seasonal beers, few craft beers. This in a bar that is housed in ski country?! All in all, quite disappointing, food-wise, and over-priced.
