Alleia is a culinary MUST to experience while in Chattanooga. It's perfect for a special occasion, whether it's a date night, family dinner or girls night out. Definitely make a reservation because it gets busy on weekends! The front door is super heavy and the interior is dimly lit. We were seated in front of the open kitchen which was pretty cool to see. Our server was friendly and helped make good recommendations. Drinks were just ok for me - I'm a gin girl and there was only one option on the vast cocktail menu. The Edge of Darkness was a bit heavy for me - kind of Negroni-esque. I probably should have tried a wine instead. However, the Smoke Signals mezcal cocktail was actually a refreshing alternative. We started with the steamed mussels which hit the spot since we were starving! The pappardelle with braised veal was fantastic - the pasta being made in house made all the difference. So, I dont see an option to change my previous review, which was not stellar. Not because of the food, but because of the service. The management reached out to me after my last review and explained that they had just instituted a new system, which is why the service was lacking. He sent me a gift card to come back and try again. We did tonight and I have to say not only was the service excellent, the food was as amazing, as it's been previously, and we happily almost $400. I appreciate that he gave us the chance to come back and try again, as I live over over 100 miles away and travel to Chattanooga for weekends for the food scene. The waitress was great. She was nice and attentive. The atmosphere was cute. I ordered the big dog cocktail. It was a beautiful purple color and I enjoyed it. The bacon wrapped dates were fantastic as well. The meal went down hill from there. I ordered the squash ravioli. It was not good. The pasta was thick and gummy. The squash was basically raw on it. I also got the grilled romaine. It has a funky taste. The romaine and apples and cheese did not pair well. My husband got the NY strip medium rare. It came out way over done but tasted okay. We made a reservation for Saturday night and were seated right away. By the time we got there which was around 9pm, the rush hour had subsided. The restaurant was a perfect ambience for a nice dinner. I ordered the Gnocchi with chicken sausage and mushroom. I would say it was a 7/10. I enjoyed it. We had our engagement party here last night and it was amazing!! We booked the Renaissance Room. We had 28 guests (2 tables of 14). I worked with Jeanne to plan the event and Alleia was extremely accommodating of my requests. They really went above and beyond. For example, they added vegan dishes to every course and let us in the room early to set up some decorations. Jeanne was super responsive and helpful. The food and service were AMAZING and we highly recommend Alleia! It would be a great rehearsal dinner spot too. Came in for our anniversary while we were visiting Chattanooga- restaurant was beautiful inside, much larger inside than it looks from the outside and even with the tall ceilings it wasn't loud or have an echo. We had reservations and were sat right away on a Friday night. The waiter had great recommendations and was very attentive. For drinks I had the Cherry Poppins which was bright, lots of cherry flavor, my husband enjoyed a glass of the Chianti. We started with the bacon wrapped dates and the arancini - the dates had a great smokey flavor and the arancini was deliciously crispy filled with fluffy rice, cheese and meat sauce. For entrees I had the Spaghetti All' Amatriciana which had crunchy smokey lardons of local bacon and tomatoes and had a tiny bit of heat to it which was a nice spin on the classic with perfectly al dente noodles. Husband went for the Papperdelle with braised veal which he said the veal was fall apart delicious and the papperdelle was so thin and perfect. The serving size was very generous and the prices are unbelievable. We passed on dessert since we could barely move but they came back noting it was our anniversary with a scoop of their homemade blackberry buttermilk gelato we still managed to consume all of and it was a really interesting mix of tart and fruity and sweet. This was my first time at the restaurant during a business trip to Chattanooga. The place is very nice with lots of character starting from the very big wooden front door, to all the light fixtures, paintings, brick walls and candles. Food was amazing! I had the fig preserve pizza, fire roasted okra and Panna Cott for dessert. I would give this place 5 stars but my server sucked! I told him it was my first time dinning there and the restaurant was highly recommended by the hotel where I stayed. The server never welcomed me, did not introduce himself and didn't offer to explain the menu or make any recommendations. His response was: What would you like to drink? After I told him and he came back with my drink, he said: What would you like to order? He did not ask if I had any questions about the menu. After he brought my pizza and okra, he basically dropped it off and said: Enjoy! Didn't ask me if he could bring me anything else. Now, just to add that when I went for dinner it was 5:45 and he had only one other table in his section. Majority of the time he was talking to another waiter. He never came by to check on me or ask if I need anything until I was done with food and asked for dessert. If you want a dark place with tiny paper pieces as menus you can barely see, in an upscale restaurant, this is your place. It's loud, unless you are in the outer space with the windows it's loud. We sat right by the open kitchen. Although there were open booths we would have preferred. It's not really a place for kids. But our little granddaughter was with us and a few more kids came in with their parents. We ordered the margarita pizza as an appetizer and the rice balls. Both were good but the pizza was skimpy on toppings for the price. You are basically getting sauce and a thin crust. Everyone at the table ordered different entries. I got the bolognese. It was basically a bunch of sauce with a tiny portion of pasta. Good but not satisfying. Had the worst heartburn after.everyone enjoyed their meal. I wish Theo had a child's menu. Only spaghetti and a wasteful amount for a child. No bread unless you order a flatbread or something. I hate that. We ordered desserts. Tiramisu was ok, very mild coffee flavor. Ordered some kind of fried bread with rosemary that wasn't good. I got the flourless chocolate cake. Rich but way too bitter. The joke of the night was the sorbet. My husband got the peach and granddaughter got strawberry. It was one tiny scoop of each together on a dish. The server misunderstood I guess. Not at all worth the ten dollar price for a tiny tiny scoop. It was $20 for two scoops the size of a golf ball. Coffee was basic. They have no sweet tea so that's a big no no for me. This is not your typical red sauce and pasta Italian Restaurant! The feeling when you walk in is inviting and serene with lots of candles and enough light to see your menu but not real bright. We were surprised to get a last minute reservation because the restaurant was so busy the entire night. We were quickly seated directly in front of the kitchen, so we had a great view. Our server was very friendly and was very attentive. He gave some good recommendations. We started with the taleggio flatbread, which was delicious. Our server brought us some pomodoro sauce to dip with it. I'm glad we ordered an appetizer because the entrees took about another 30 mins to be ready. We weren't in a rush, so we didn't mind waiting, and we could see that the kitchen was continuously pumping out food, so it was probably just a busy night. Alleia is nothing short of fantastic. * Initial thoughts: The place is fairly upscale. It's dimly lit, can be used as a place for a romantic dinner or for larger parties as well. They have interesting and unique decoration in some of the parts of the restaurant. * Service Our server was fantastic and genuinely enjoyed being there. We spoke to him throughout the night and his recommendations were spot on. * Food: The food was absolutely amazing. For an appetizer, we ordered the Flatbread which was sprinkled with taleggio cheese and truffle. It tasted wonderful and we ordered it as per our server's suggestion. For our main course, I ordered the gnocchi, which they were able to happily substitute the chicken for more mushrooms and other vegetables. Again, the food tasted amazing! I ordered two drinks. The first was "la vie en rose" which was all right. It was a gin drink with ginger, lime, and rose water topped with a piece of sage (pictured). The second drink I ordered (per the server's recommendation again) ended up being one of the best drinks I have ever tasted. It was called the Pompelmo, and it was a great, sweet drink that paired well with the entire meal. Highly recommend. Lastly, for dessert we ordered the flourless chocolate cake w/cinnamon gelato. My girlfriend loved the gelato more, while I enjoyed the cake more. What a beautifully decorated restaurant. It's very unique and I loved the ambiance. We had a drink at the bar before dinner which was really nice. I got the uptown girl which was delicious. I also got the total eclipse which I was not a fan of at all. We sat near the kitchen was fun to watch and the booths are very secluded and private. For dinner we started with the Margherita pizza was good. I've had better pizza but I liked the simplicity of it. The dough and crust were very good. I ordered the veal pappardelle which was delicious. The flavors were on point. My husband got the spaghetti all' amatriciana which was spicy and very smokey. He liked it. So, I need to make an addition to my previous review. Finally gave them a try on carry-out pizza. I love brick oven pizza, but it can be tricky, will it hold up when you add the toppings? No fear here, great pizza, with some unique recipes and ingredients. We went recently to Alleia. I had read many reviews so chose it for a date night. First date. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The service was terrible. The main reason I chose this restaurant is because it looked romantic and they serve beef carpaccio which is a favorite of mine. I ordered that as an appetizer. My date also ordered a Diet Coke. I had tea. We waited 15 or so minutes to receive our drinks. I had to ask a second time for them. Then our main course came out. The appetizer never came to the table and we waited and waited. The server never recognized we didn't receive our food. In the end my appetizer never came out. When I pointed it out the server said "why didn't you tell me." At a restaurant as nice as Alleia I shouldn't have to tell you. While eating our main course our glasses were completely empty and we were waiting for our server to refill it. They didn't refill our glass until we were almost finished with our main course and that was after me asking for a refill already. We were there on a Monday night. I really wanted to like this place and thought it would be nice for a first date. We were highly disappointed. read more
