I have enjoyed eating here multiple times over the years and it used to be excellent. Last week, we were headed home from the airport and I suggested we stop there since it was right along our route. We were seated immediately but waited quite a bit to be acknowledged after that. Finally got drinks and then bread and salad. The bread was very good, the salad was ok and then the entrees came... My spaghetti tasted like tomato paste out of a can, very bland tomato flavor. I ate it but it wasn't something I'd order again. The chicken alfredo we ordered was dripping with alfredo sauce. I've never ordered Alfredo with that much sauce. I'm not sure that I'll choose to go back here unless I hear of improvements. I'm not sure what has happened here.. read more

I went to Provino's years ago and although I couldn't remember exactly what I ordered, I remembered that I liked it. My friend had a birthday dinner here, so I had the opportunity to come back. Ambiance was okay, not much natural light and pretty dim in there. However there was alot of space for my friend's large party and many seating options. I thought that for birthdays, you get a free meal but that's somewhat true. There are I think two options (or one? I don't remember exactly) for a free birthday meal or $14.50 off of any of the entrees. So not any free meal off the menu. The garlic bread rolls were delicious. They tasted very flavorful, savory, and had the perfect garlic taste to them. The buttery garlic sauce leftover at the bottom of the bread roll bowl was amazing. The salad came after and it was delicious, it tasted fresh. I especially liked the beets in there too. For my entree, I ordered the fettucine alfredo. Looking back at it now, I should've added some broccoli or grilled chicken. Anyways, I felt like my entree was just okay. It wasn't that flavorful, or amazing. It was just alright to me. Maybe it was also just my entree choice, but it was just very plain and bland. Service was okay. For me, I felt like the price didn't correlate with the quality of food I ordered. When we got ready to leave we ask for a to go box and the waitress said there was an up charge .. why would we pay extra to take our left overs? The waitress was not friendly at all! Great food + birthday deal! It had been a while since my husband and I had been to Provino's - we moved out of the southeast and now we're back, so we decided to stop in for a blast from the past. Plus, we remembered how good the birthday deal was, so we ended up going on my birthday. Provino's was fairly busy on a Wednesday night, but we were seated immediately when we showed up at 7:00. Our waiter was slow to serve us because of how busy they were, but once he realized that we hadn't been served, he was quick to get us garlic rolls, salad, and drinks. I forgot how good the garlic rolls and the salad were!! For food, I ordered the Chicken Ripieno and my husband got the Sausage & Peppers. We were both very satisfied with our orders. Calamari was cold and chewy BUT the manager comped it and allowed us to pick out a free dessert as an apology (apology accepted) made up for the first half for sure. The main dishes were absolutely phenomenal. The garlic roles always a hit (add some salt and pepper for an out of this world result) and the cannoli we got as a replacement was delicious. A horrible overpriced place and has nothing to do with the Italian cuisine. I ordered spinach tortellini- burned outside, cold inside with some chunks undercooked spinach in between. The waitress had to admit (since I was pushy) that they receive precooked meals and just warm them up. Pretty plain local (not even Italian) overpriced wine. People like salad and bread but it is something plain and can not be even considered as a real dish. So it might be good for people who have never tried anything better than McDonald's. My family has been coming to Provino's since it opened in the early 1989's. The last several years service and food has declined. Once John retired it has really gone down. Tonight our family went to celebrate a birthday. We had to beg to get salads and rolls. The food took forever and the server was so odd and awkward. He was not a new server and has been there for a long time. I'm sure he is a fine person but maybe needs training or a career change. So sad to see a great place go down so quickly. I struggled with my rating because it's more like 3.5 than 3. This place tries to be upscale but misses the mark in my opinion. The atmosphere is fine, a little outdated but not bad. The service was good, nothing great. I had the chicken Parmesan with a side of fettuccine Alfredo, both were really good! Definitely a step above the OG, chain Italian, but everything else was subpar. Appetizers were below average as was the bread. Without the main course this would be a 2 star experience but the Chicken Parmesan and Alfredo were both very good. Served in broken wooden bowls. Salad seemed to be bagged iceberg mix. When we asked our waitress about the wine sauce, she stated "it doesn't look good at all, I wouldn't eat it". I've been here many times and always have a great meal and leave satisfied. The salad and rolls are a favorite and I've found the cannelloni en bianco to be my favorite menu item. I was on here checking the hours for today and noticed some low ratings because people only got $14.50 off for a free birthday meal, it seems to me a lot of ungrateful once a year folks. Someone else complained over a charge for sharing an entree this is because salad and rolls have a menu price if ordered separately. I used to be in restaurant management and a restaurant owner in the infancy of the internet so I can't imagine dealing with it now. Provino's is an excellent restaurant it's not a five star place nor does it have five star prices. If you're looking for a date place and want Italian food you'll have a great time. read more

We decided to go to Provino's last night, as we have enjoyed our meals there in the past. We ordered Calimari, Scampi al Forno, Shrimp Fra Diavlo, and Chicken Francese. We were seated quickly, but that's the last good service that happened. The waitress, didn't see enough of her to learn her name, but she had dark blonde to light brown hair pinned back at the crown, despite having almost no other tables left us to fend for ourselves. We refilled our own waters, asked other tables servers for rolls, etc. The food was mixed. The calimari was still hot when it got to the table and quite good. The Shrimp Fra Diavlo was really bad with no spices that I could find, not even basics. It tasted like a can of crushed tomatoes on the pasta. The pasta itself was good though. The Scampi had almost no garlic as well. For such a large bill, we felt like we were robbed and left pretty disappointed. read more

My first time here, and I was not disappointed! When I entered the restaurant I was met with the most incredible smells and we were seated right away. A member of our group had some diet restrictions and our server was able to make some recommendations and also answered her many questions about substitutions. The salad was delicious and had a few ingredients I was not accustomed to, but it worked. The warm rolls were yummy too. 2 members in our group had the snapper with fettuccine, another lasagna and the member with dietary restrictions had shrimp scampi over vegetables, I had a difficult time deciding between the lasagna and the fettuccine alfredo and ended up ordering the lasagna, I enjoyed it and was impressed with the generous amount of ground beef. I sampled the fettuccine alfredo and immediately regretted my choice of lasagna it was that good! Our server Vince was friendly, attentive, knowledgable along with the right amount of humor. The portions were plentiful and we left with to go containers. I look forward to dining here again and will definitely order the fettuccine alfredo! read more

I don't know how the food could even be considered Italian food.....I have never seen such gross looking food in my life.....I ordered the spinach tortellini and it was hot around the edge of the plate and COLD in the middle which tells me it was cooked in a microwave which the server told me they don't even have microwave ovens in the restaurant .....I don't believe that for a second....the salad was so gross I was gagging just looking at it and the rolls were swimming in oil with chunks of garlic on top and they were hard as a brick.....if Gordon Ramsey were to visit there he would have thrown the tortellini against the wall....can't believe there are so many good reviews on this horrible restaurant...if you live in Chattanooga go to Tony's in the Downtown area....the food there is actually Good..... read more

I am in Chattanooga for a couple days after a conference in Atlanta. Are used to live in Chattanooga for 26 years but live up north now. I met up with some old friends and they chose Provino's for dinner. The salad and rolls were wonderful. We ate two bowls of salad. I had shrimp and scallop Alfredo, One of the guys had lasagna and another had chicken and broccoli Alfredo. Everything was wonderful! Our service was good as well. It had the old-school charm. I don't think the inside has been updated or changed in years. Our only complaint was it was cold. They turned off the air but it kept kicking back on. Luckily I had a few long sleeves in the car for us. I know they come here often but I'm sure we will be back! read more

We've been going to Provino's since I was a little girl, albeit not frequently. The restaurant is just like I remembered (pretty sure they haven't changed a thing to the decor). I'm not going to say this is the BEST Italian, but it's definitely good and filling. Your meal starts off with (a lot of) garlic rolls and a salad packed full of cheese, onions, tomatoes, beets (not my thing) and garbanzo beans. The salad and rolls are delicious. We both ordered the chicken parmigiana with angel hair pasta and marinara sauce, not the meat sauce, and was surprised when the plates arrived with a massive chicken breast. Our food was hot and good and the garlic rolls helped everything taste just that much better. We finished our meal with a strawberry cheesecake although the cannoli was recommended. I can see how or why others could of had bad experiences. The restaurant is dark which doesn't really give way for a calming atmosphere. This place is large and when it's packed it can take a while to get your food, we went at lunch and were in and out in under an hour. read more

I really really thought I liked this place minus the high price tag, I went back for my second time yesterday around 8 hours ago. The unfortunate truth is that the only reason I am writing this review is that I just projectile vomited for 6 straight minutes. If you're wondering the manicotti does smell the same going down as coming up. If your goal is to pay 2 1/2 times for a meal what I would elsewhere and to projectile vomit in the middle of the night after feeling just mildly queasy for hours than this shit hole is the place for you!! We went to Provino's for my birthday, because it is close & we've been wanting to try it (my spouse & I love Italian). I ordered a chicken dish similar to chicken scallopini which is one of my all time fave Italian dishes. When the young man that brought it out sat it down in front of me, I could tell it smelled "off." (And the sauce was very watery but that's not the worst thing) I decided to try a small bite anyway, hoping perhaps my nose was just off today. The meat was bad, not as in 'oh I don't like this dish' but as in the meat had actually turned, it was no longer safe to eat. I spit it out & was instantly fighting the urge to vomit. I asked a passing server to remove the dish so that I could better manage my resulting nausea. Our actual server brought it back stating that she was sorry that I "didn't like it." I explained that it wasn't a question of taste preference, that the meat was actually bad. Long story...at the end of the meal, as we never saw a manager, I expressed my concern that a manager never came to our table after this incident. The server explained that she told the manager, the manager apparently liked at the offending dish, & told the server that it was fine, that there was nothing wrong with it, that it wasn't a "big deal" & there was no need for the mgr to come to our table. When at the end of the meal, after we paid, I requested to speak with a mgr. The mgr came to our table, stating that the server told her that I had ordered a dish without any meat & she figured that she did not need to check because that took care of the problem. The mgr then made the excuse that she was the only mgr there & instead asked us what she could do... rather than simply offering to make things better in any way. We will NEVER go back. As a manager, you are the face of the restaurant. So, even though the food (with the exception of the rotten chicken) was just passing as far as being enjoyable, not actually good enough to recommend, the fact that the management is so completely incompetent assured our decision to not return. We would NOT even recommend this restaurant to people we don't like. read more

Been coming here for many many years but had not been in the past 5 years or so. Took new gf this time since she had never been. Salad was the only good part of dinner. Even the rolls were off because the garlic was green, apparently from oxidation, according to our waitress. It didn't taste like garlic at all. Apparently they make the garlic/butter sauce for the rolls early in the morning and that's it. Disappointing. The entrees were tasteless and room temperature. The Veal Diana and the Angel Hair dishes we ordered did not come out hot, not even warm. They both lacked any flavor at all. Veal just had the taste of tomato sauce and the Angel hair dish, light butter taste...nothing really at all. Extremely disappointing, especially for $60 for the two of us just for food and one soda. I had water, which was also awful due to not being filtered, but thats typical with sit down restaurants it seems. We did not complain as neither of us are the types to. The wait staff were ok but did bring the wrong food to our table once, and the place was not busy at all, we had a whole section to ourselves. And when our food came they only had one of our entrees and confusion about where the other one was. Pros: - food is consistent - food is served warm - garlic bread and salad come with entree Cons: - cleanliness of restaurant and staff is questionable, our server told us how sick she was, which was fine until she starting telling us way to much about her unhappiness and down playing he restaurant. - both servers we have had did not care to answer our questions about the menu, not sure if that is a thing for anyone else. - expensive cheap wine. - overpriced (in my opinion) Some things I am on the fence about is the environment. They hang Christmas lights up and there are scones, but really, I felt the decor was dated and looked unclean, maybe that is just me.
