My wife and I ate at Boccaccia for a date night and her birthday. It was great that we got one entree and one dessert for free. I had the Ravioli Spinaci e Formaggi and my wife had the special -- an amazing prepared trout along with a side of the gnocchi for a slight up charge. Unfortunately I forgot to get pictures--we were so hungry to start eating. For dessert my wife had the chocolate mousse cake and I had the tiramisu. Both seemed they had been defrosted earlier in the day but overall the taste for both were still quite good. Just a bit of sections that were still pretty cold/frozen. The service was great and our waiter kept checking how everything was. I'm sorry I can't remember his name. It was also great to see how he and the other waitress interacted with the other customers. I've heard amazing things about this place so I was excited to give it a try. The building is kinda hidden and out of the way which is nice and parking was easy. The inside is small and intimate and while we sat down in an empty section, within minutes it was full of people and became very loud and it was hard to hear the people I was eating with. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable and knew when to check in and when to leave us alone. We started off with the bruschetta which is just three pieces of bread topped with a pesto like sauce, tomato and mozzarella. It was okay, but for the price tag I was expecting more than 3 on the plate. I order a side Caesar as none of the entrees come with salads and it was very delicious and a good portion size for the price. For the main dish I got the capellini del sud and while us was good, it wasn't anything special. Angel hair pasta in a light sauce with minimal artichokes and sun dried tomatoes. If you would like to try or add a little Italian to your life, I would suggest Boccaccia Ristorante. This place, based on its ambiance, it is perfect for that romantic dinner. The setting is very welcoming. When you walk in, you get the feeling of Little Italy, walking back in time to 40 or 50 years ago, maybe Chicago [for your that have been will understand]. Throughout my travels, I can remember some of the classic Italian restaurants I have been and this restaurant reminded me of and brought back fond memories. You get the feeling that the food served is authentic. Prior to our arrival, I had called not realizing they close at 8pm. I called about 7:30pm seeking to get more information about the restaurant and their hours. To my amazement, the person that responded to my phone call invited us to come have dinner even though I was 20 minutes away from the restaurant. When we got there, most people were leaving. It felt nice having the space to ourselves. Our waiter came to serve us and we never felt rushed. We started off with appetizers. We had the Bruschetta. As you can see in my photo, this appetizer consists of buffalo mozzarella and roasted tomatoes topped with basil and olive oil served over grilled bread. It was delicious!!! For our drinks, we wanted to try something new. We ordered Zevia which is a non-alcoholic drink that comes in a can. To be honest, this drink tasted like diet or watered-down cola. I was not a big fan. When our food was ready, they were served in a timely manner, hot and excellent. In their Secondi section in the menu, I ordered "Pollo Parmigiana." - Classic chicken parmesan with a side of penne pasta in a spicy tomato sauce. This was delicious! It was well seasoned and filling. I under estimated the portion served. For dessert, we felt bold and requested our server to surprise us. She did not disappoint at all! She brought us "Tiramisu" for dessert. To sum what this dessert is, its coffee-flavored Italian dessert. Fun Fact: Tiramisu means - "Pick me up" in Italian. One last thing I do want to bring anyone reading this and is searching where to eat, if you're not familiar with the area, it can be difficult to find the restaurant. Your GPS will tell you that you are there, but all you will see are two white houses. This restaurant was great with just one hiccup (but they fixed it) I gave it a 4 because the chicken Parm honestly was not good at all. It was pounded out too much, it was about 3 ounces and overcooked I sent it back. Our waitress Morgan was awesome about it she sent me out a half order of Cappellini del Sud (I added shrimp) it was delicious!!! Even though my Chicken Parm was not great, i had upgraded the pasta (Orecchiette con Salsiccia alla Piemontese) IT WAS FANTASTIC!! The flavor BOOMED! We love Italian so looked forward to dinner at this restaurant with friends on 1/6/23. The location is almost hidden and it feels like a hidden and dimly lit gem. Take your flashlight or phone to read the menu. I ordered diet coke which was brought out in a can. Refills are not included. The bread was brought out but is nothing special, don't waste your carbs on it. Chicken parm looked nice but that was the best part of the dish as the breading was fairly tasteless and the texture of the meat was strangely off...my husband also ordered chicken parmesan and his piece of chicken looked like a twin to mine, he commented that it seemed preformed. My sauce was too spicy and tasted like it had cayenne in it, although I asked for regular marinara (upcharged $2.50 for a sauce change). The pasta was ok but a little tough. The serving size was small for the price point. I didn't give dessert a try but based on the food our table received (along with surley service) I would recommend skipping it and skipping on going to the restaurant. My girlfriend and I came here tonight because we could not decide where to go. My girlfriend had been here in the past but it has been 10 years since she had been here and she did not have a good experience then so she was apprehensive. First off the Sysco chicken they used for the chicken piccata was room temp at best, no flavor in it or the pasta, my girlfriends meal had so much balsamic vinegar on it you could drown in it. I don't know if the food is good, but the service is horrible. We made a reservation for 630. They called and asked if we could change it to 645 and we said that's OK. We were celebrating my daughter's birthday. We stood in the front for about 15 minutes past our reservation time and then decided to go over to the bar to ask Lady about our reservation. She said "there's a sign in the front that tells you to wait there". A few minutes later I came back up to her and told her that we had made a reservation because we were on a time limit. She said yes ma'am. I asked her her name and she just said yes ma'am, and walked away. Super weird. I guess we will never know how the food is. By the way, a party of 15 left right before us because they had screwed up their reservation and did not have tables for their office Christmas party. After reading some great reviews about Boccaccia, we finally had time to check it out this weekend. The location is a bit hidden, particularly when trying to find at night. However, the rustic location and decor make it a nice place to enjoy an evening meal. The menu is not overly large, providing just enough options for most. I enjoyed the chicken piccata and my wife the chicken parmesan. The piccata had excellent flavor, chicken grilled quite well. The parmesan was a little undercooked and cold; it was hard to tell the true flavor. Both came with a side of pasta with a spicy red sauce. I enjoyed the sauce; not your standard red sauce for sure. We will certainly try it out again, next time different pasta specials. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a nice, quiet dinner with Italian fare. read more
