    The wife's fried okra
    Jim B.

Looking for a quick fun lunch or dinner break. Allen and sons bbq is the place to go. Today the wife wanted fried okra and they have some of the best around. So, I ordered her fried okra and I ordered two chili dogs, I forgot to say Carolina way which includes coleslaw. Did not know I made this mistake until I unwrapped and noticed no coleslaw. But, the chili dogs with mustard were still delicious. Two small cokes, two dogs, and fried okra was $17.00 dollars for lunch not a bad deal.

Best BBQ spot in the area. Homely country-style ambiance, excellent customer service from the super-friendly staff, and fast servings. The sweet Southern hospitality spirit moves here. Our waitress was professional and nice. Went here with fam for a relative's Birthday, and I enjoyed the restaurant's cozy atmosphere. Heard they've been in business about more than 20 years since I was born, and that this is their 2nd location. Pork BBQ is their specialty here, so I ordered the big BBQ plate that comes with 2 sides of your choice and hush puppies. Amount seems fair for $16 price and they have a lot of classic sides to choose from, including fries, onion rings, coleslaw, fried okra, baked beans, corn, etc,. Some of us ordered a burger plate (no bread) with 2 sides and hugh puppies. Food tasted fresh. Pork barbecue was well-cooked, great with vinegar, which I had to ask for. Vinegar was fantastic. You can also order the Pork BBQ as a sandwich. We also had banana pudding for dessert. Haven't tried their milkshakes so might try it next time. Allen & Son reminds me of Cook Out with its Southern-style fast food offerings but I'm not sure if their burgers are good because I haven't tried them.

The food at Allen's is spot on the only issue that I have is the parking is not always friendly but other than that. Allen's is a great place.Barbecue is definitely delicious.

This barbecue was recommended to us by a barber from carborro and it did not disappoint..... They had fabulous classic Carolina pulled pork with their famous vinegar sauce. we also enjoyed Cole slaw, fried okra, fried dill, pickles, coleslaw and new Brunswick stew. My son had the fried catfish which was also delicious. He also really enjoyed his tater tot side . They served two really big pieces of fish with each meal.. all the meals came with tasty hush puppies. Service was good and quick . Ambience was fairly typical of Carolina barbecue places.

We saw this as we were driving by and decided to turn around and check it out. We pulled into the small parking area which is shared with another business which we also checked out. My wife and I were not hungry because we had just eaten but after quickly looking at their ratings on Yelp and Google we knew we had to stop. Since we have moved to North Carolina, my wife has discovered that she loves hush puppies and this gave her another opportunity to try them. They have a menu board on the front and you order through a window, then wait for your number to be called. There is also signage stating there is indoor seating but we did not go inside since we were just grabbing a light snack. As we checked out the menu, others were waiting for their orders and picking up. You know when they have on their menu board "Bulk Orders To Go" it must be good. They sell their BBQ by the pound and the coleslaw, potato salad, Brunswick stew, baked beans, collard greens, and mac and cheese by as much as a gallon. We decided to just try the hush puppies and a side of the mac and cheese. The place looks like it has been here for many years and is a staple in the community. We also were impressed to see their recent health score of 99. My wife enjoyed the hush puppies and although the mac and cheese was creamy I did think the noodles themselves were overcooked. Would we recommend stopping - absolutely!

BBQ, coleslaw, baked beans and the single hushpuppy

It definitely had more of a take out atmosphere to it, rather than a dine-in one. The menu didn't have a whole lot on it for smoked options. The only smoked meat option I saw was pulled pork, so no brisket, chicken or ribs which was kinda disappointing. I got the pulled pork plate which comes with a SINGLE hushpuppy which I've never seen just 1 given before and I got baked beans and coleslaw with it. The beans just felt like heated up plain beans, nothing special about them. Coleslaw was pretty good, but a little dry. The BBQ was pretty tasty, very moist and didn't need any BBQ sauce. I also got the catfish sandwich to try and that was fantastic. It was fried perfectly and very good. I'd definitely recommend the catfish. The service I had wasn't that great,it took forever to get my drink refilled the entire time I was there and it was not busy today. BBQ - 7/10 Catfish Sandwich - 8.8/10 Baked beans - 5/10 Coleslaw - 5.5/10 Potato salad - 4/10

The pulled pork was just not good. It was very fatty and tasted like a lot of vinegar. Sad.

We wanted to try something new so we went ahead and went for it. We pulled up and parking might be confusing for some, if you pull up behind the car wash just circle around to take a parking spot, if you pull in front of the car wash you'll have access to the drive thru and the parking spots on the right. Easy to maneuver around but very limited spots in general. Ordering was easy, they let us order at the drive thru since there were a few people ahead of us at the normal area. They have menus posted in 3 different areas, the 2 main ordering areas and then at the corner of the seating area. They also had a Katsu special posted on the window that wasn't on the regular menu. We really wanted to try some of the sweet and spicy bbq sauce, but they had ran out so we got the normal bbq sauce and Polynesian. I really enjoyed the original bbq sauce it reminded me of a thicker soy sauce with a hint of sweetness. The kaylenes Polynesian sauce was very sweet and something my husband really enjoyed. The chicken was cooked to perfection, it wasn't dry and was very moist. The short ribs were a little more on the dry side but good overall. The pork was one of my favorites. It was flavorful, moist and overall just some of the best pork I've had. Polynesian meatballs were just regular meatballs covered in the Polynesian sauce. My daughter ate almost all of them (she's only 2!). But they were pretty moist and reminded me of the meatballs you get at baby showers. Spam musubi was good overall, can't go wrong with it. My son really likes these. Mac salad was good, was macoroni pasta and carrots in their island style way. My husband really enjoyed the veggies, said it would be really good with a pupusa. Hahaha. White rice was cooked good. Our only complaint was overall it lacked just a bit of salt. But the sauces made up for it. Service 10/10. Food 9/10. Location 7/10. Price 5/5 You may have to wait a little on your food but it is very well worth it. Would definitely come back and need to get here earlier so we can try the sweet and spicy sauce!

Just forty minutes from, my husband, our friends, and I chose the inn for a birthday weekend getaway, and from the moment we arrived, it felt as though we had stepped into a storybook village hidden in the Carolina countryside. Fearrington has the rare quality of feeling like a town within a town: intimate, charming, and thoughtfully preserved. Despite a bustling arrival moment, the warmth of the welcome immediately softened everything. The front desk associate greeted us graciously, answered every question with care, and even personally guided us to our cottage after helping my husband navigate charging options for our car. We stayed in the Grand Suite, and it was nothing short of enchanting. The interiors felt timeless in the way only truly refined spaces do traditional without feeling heavy, luxurious without trying too hard. In the sitting room, a handwritten birthday note and a plate of the inn's beautifully hand-painted chocolates awaited me, a gesture so personal and thoughtful it immediately set the tone for the weekend. The bedroom itself felt regal, anchored by an elevated, bespoke headboard that gave the room a quiet grandeur. But it was the bathroom that completely stole my heart. Black and white, classic and serene, it seemed to whisper relaxation. The heated towel rack enthusiastically recommended by the front desk quickly became one of those small luxuries you suddenly cannot imagine living without. And then there was the bath. Deep, jet-filled, and accompanied by the inn's soothing bath salts, it became the perfect ending to the evening. Every detail at Fearrington seems designed to slow you down in the most intentional way. After settling in, we wandered through the property's shops and gathering spaces, where every interaction felt genuinely warm. The boutiques were beautifully curated, filled with surprisingly well-priced treasures that made it dangerously easy to linger. Everywhere we went, someone gently reminded us to "try the salted butter," advice we happily followed over cocktails and dinner later that evening at the restaurant. The sleep itself was restorative in the truest sense. The bed was impossibly comfortable, the cottage wonderfully quiet, and the entire experience carried that elusive feeling of being deeply cared for. What makes Fearrington so special is that it does not impose a singular aesthetic or experience upon you. Whether your tastes lean classic, modern, romantic, or understated, there is a corner of beauty waiting to meet you there. It is refined without pretension, luxurious without excess, and deeply rooted in hospitality.
