Doctors Shiplov & Coffman are great and so good with my dogs! It's why I keep going to this place. However, the front desk really needs a lot of help. Every single time I go in, there is no acknowledgment of my presence, The front desk people ignore us customers. Then, when one of them finally asks "may I help who's next?" People just go up there. Not realizing who was there 1st. So, naturally people get upset. Yesterday, I watched a a front deck woman hang up the phone and just stare at the fish tank, spaced out for about 5 minutes while the waiting room was packed with people waiting to be helped. Well, I got annoyed and walked back up there and said "I haven't even checked my dogs in yet and my appointment started 5 minutes ago". Ridiculous and terrible customer service. Once finished with my appointment, I had to endure the same wait & chaos of the front desk again just to check out. I heard a woman making reference to the same frustration and the young woman behind the counter didn't appear to care or try to show understanding toward the customer. What happened to customer service? I was there for 2 hours & that is insane for a few vaccines. I really think that if they don't do something about the front desk by adding a computer check-in kiosk, that they are going to continue to get bad reviews like this and possibly lose business. read more

The front desk staff are uninterested and completely unhelpful. I arrived early for a 2:00 appointment for my shelter dog Ivy. We tried to be patient while the waiting room slowly emptied. Ivy is a nervous dog, and kept trying to get up in my lap (I get around by motorized wheelchair ) as I returned to the desk 4 times to ask about the delay. Nobody actually checked. Just, 'Oh, we're going to see you soon." Without making eye contact. After an hour of checking over and over, I finally got to see a vet who dispensed ear cream. As I was checking out I was informed that it took a long time because I was a walk-in. What? I made the appointment the week before for 2:00. Everybody there saw the struggle I was having as the delay stretched longer and longer. My fingers dislocated trying to hold the leash while trying to calm my dog. There were 5 attendants talking and laughing with each other but avoiding interaction with a struggling customer. I asked three time if I could reschedule because I couldn't wait any longer, but was assured it would just be a minute. Stringing me along was senseless when I kept offering to reschedule. I was in a lot of pain by the time we got out of there, and felt invisible to boot. Also, don't expect any acknowledgement if you use their office to bring an elderly dog in to put to sleep. I was referred to this hospital by 3 people and specifically Dr. Coffman, when I called to book they got me in the next day at 11am. Wait time wasn't bad at all. My 12 year old chihuahua was very much due for a dental and since we were new clients, she was booked for an initial exam. I also wanted to do a full blood panel first due to her age, so the technician took her to get that done and brought her back within 2 minutes. I thought the results would take a day or two but to my surprise the doctor walked in and had them in his hand. Dr. Coffman went over every single result in depth and said everything looked great to do the dental same day. I wasn't expecting that but he said he could squeeze her in and she would be ready for pick up with in 2 hours. I had also asked if he could do X-rays before hand (not included with dental cleaning). This experience was over the top and exceeded my expectations!!!! When I picked her up, the doctor went over the X-rays with me and showed me a video he took during the dental to explain why he had to extract some teeth. I promise you, you will not find any other vet with such affordable prices AND amazing handling and care for your pet. The service they provided and flexibility they had was absolutely great, if it would have came down to it, I honestly wouldn't have cared to pay a thousand dollars. I'm also normally a nervous wreck when it comes to taking my dog to a new vet due to her age, but I felt so at ease leaving her there because the staff were great from the moment I got there. Dr Coffman has been in practice for 28 years and when I tell you he went over every single thing for me from start to finish, not many vets take the time to do that and I admired that. My little girl came out tail wagging and a little sleepy, ate some food later on that day and slept like a baby. I also want to thank the receptionist and technicians for being amazing, so welcoming, and so kind, what an amazing team this hospital has!!!! I drop my dog off to be kenneled on Thursday evening. What I have been doing is calling daily to check on him. I have been a CONSISTENT customer since 2004. No other vet office has cared for any of my animals. I have also referred many to this office. Today I called and it took me 23 minutes to get someone on the phone to advise me of my dogs status. This gave me instant anxiety Janessa answered the phone and immediately advised me that he was doing good but they had an incident. Incident? Yes, my dog has been aggressively trying to get to other dogs and dislocated the shoulder of a worker? Huh? Oh Wowwwww. My dog weighs 78 lbs. A stocky 78, so I ask how large was the worker, thinking that maybe it was a petite person. I was advised that it was beside the point, my dog is aggressive and they will attempt to keep him away from the other dogs. I couldn't ask about the worker becI immediately became upset with the tone and the language that I was being fed. My dog is not vicious, now I'm worried about how he will be treated until Tuesday and I am am three states over at a Memorial Service and can't get back before they close. I am so upset that I have a headache and my blood pressure has increased. Loyalty, professionalism and common courtesy doesn't seem to matter anymore. I am done. I was referred to Dr. Overton after having had a awful experience at Stone brook Family Vet Clinic. I called them and was able to schedule a visit that same day but I scheduled it the next day to give my cat some time to mentally recover. Upon entering, we checked in and sat down. I love how there's bird cages in the waiting room. My cat found it very entertaining. However, he does not like dogs so we waited outside. We waited about 10 minutes before being called into a room. It was a small room but it had a bench with a soft blanket on it. How thoughtful. I kind of came in there advising them of what they need to do given my cats recent experience. I warned them he might become aggressive because he's scared and hurt. I asked them what their protocol was for handling aggressive pets. I asked them a lot of questions to which they answered them all and even comforted me because it was clear I was anxious about this. Meanwhile, my cat was already getting angry so I put him in his carrier and he pooped in it. They said I'd have to come back in an hour as their x-ray machines are being used. I was a little anxious but eventually agreed. An hour later, we get a call that he's ready! Dr. Yu did a great job explaining everything to me and answering all of my questions. I've been a customer for over 30 years! There is something to be said for that. When I first started going here it was only Dr Overton. When we first started with AVH, Overton would make house calls! We first met him when he came to our house in the country to give a shot to one of our dogs that had distemper. Fast forward 30 years later and Overton is a consultant for the business and the place is still serving the community. My son has several dogs and he drives quite a distance to get the dogs treated here at AVH. His 95 lbs husky/wolf has had an issue with his tail. After lengthy treatment of trying to save the tail it required amputation. Dr Shiplov has treated multiple family dogs and once again he was here for us. He's a great vet and has always done our family right. I was expecting a $800 plus bill! What a surprise when the bill was less then $400. This included a teeth cleaning too! UPDATE: came back 2 weeks after my initial e for a dental appointment, and although his teeth are nice and clean, I'm disappointed in the treatment of my dog. He was returned to me with poop covering his entire butt, was begging for water (he drank the entire bowl in under a minute. Only can assume he's gone all last night up until i picked him up for water), and ran to the grass to pee (again, assuming he was not taken to use the restroom since i dropped him off). The afternoon staff seemed a lot less professional as I was just treated like a number, and they all seemed super young and a little snobby. I told them I picked up my dog with poop all over his but and they pointed me to the paper towels. No apologies, nothing. Although cheap, I just can't justify this place at all. DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE IF YOU REALLY DO LOVE THEM. Brian is a complete fool and said my beautiful 7 month orange kitty just had asthma and made me keep in there all day with no love for him. He then called to say to come get him and had me sitting in a waiting room for over 30 mins just to release me with a very sick cat. HE DID NOTHING TO HELP HIM. Gave me meds and said just give him this and he will be okay then sending me home to my little girls. I couldn't do it and took him the BEST clinic in Allen, Veterinary Emergency Clinic. As soon as they saw him they rushed him back and tried to save him but it was too late and they had to let him go. I told them where I took him first since it was closer and I used to know the vet who first started the place. But they were appalled at how they treated him and me. I couldn't stop crying but they treated him so sweetly loving on him and me as he passed. It was the worst time of my life watching him fight for me to stay alive. I hope you read this warning and not take your animal here because they DO NOT CARE. They want your money and that's it. This place should not be taking care of sweet loving animals who show us so much love. The hardest part was telling my two girls t they lose Taco, our favorite cuddle buddy. I will never ever forgive them for making me believe he would be okay and to take him home for my kids to see him like that. How dare you call yourself vets. You are KILLERS. read more

I love Dr. Coffman! He and his staff have been such a blessing in Phoenix and my life, I wish we had found him sooner. Prior to Dr. Coffman, I had been to veterinarians all over - Garland, Carrollton, McKinney, Frisco, Colleyville, Plano, Allen. I live in Rockwall now and we still make the drive to Allen because I feel safe that Phoenix is in his care. He's fixed her throughout the years for ACL tears, a ruptured spleen and now in her twilight years bone cancer and an amputation of her left hind leg. Post surgery, when she was still having a whining tantrum that could be heard through the whole hospital all he had to do was walk in the room and touch her and she went quiet and settled to sleep. My pit, Phoenix is a caretaker. She's helped my ex sleep through his PTSD. My nephew when he was an angry little kiddo about his parents divorce, I'd often find him babbling to her in a closet. One crazy night when she wouldn't stop barking, she saved a woman that was being beaten by her boyfriend 3-4 blocks away (that's a crazy story). Anytime my siblings or cousins have an upset in their life they would call me up and ask if Phoenix was available for a walk? a sleepover? a weekend getaway? I can't. These people. Get your own bloody dog! But I knew why they wanted her so off she went. She has provided comfort to so many but there are not many who she can just turn off and be comforted by. We've been coming to Allen Veterinary hospital for about 10 years now. Dr. Shiplov and Dr. Coffman are exceptional. They care for our pets as if they were their own. We have had many dogs with special needs. Ranging from a Great Dane with Addison's disease, to our chihuahua that is blind and deaf due to an injury. The vet techs and the doctors take exceptional care of all of our special needs fur kids. I can always count on an honest assessments and incredibly reasonable pricing for their services. The front desk isn't without its opportunities at times but I believe in giving a little grace during this challenging staffing time and knowing the volume of clients that bombard the staff daily. I couldn't see entrusting my pet's care to anyone else. So much so that we make the 35 minute drive just to make sure that our pets are well cared for. read more

(We have also used Ace Pet Resort and have nothing negative to say about that.) Four weeks ago we brought our 15 YO golden in for the last time. It was a busy, hectic Saturday, but we were shown sympathy and empathy. Kelly gave us a necklace with our pup's hair in a little bottle to remember him by. I make appointments ahead of time and they are always within a reasonable amount of time. Yes, they are busy-that's because they are excellent. This week, my dog had an emergency and was going downhill fast. I was there before they opened and Jessica was so kind to get me and my boy in and get him immediate treatment. Appointment? What's an appointment? I had an appointment today for my dog and walked in to see 20+ animals waiting to be seen. I waited for 45 minutes and only 2 animals had been seen in that time. Waiting wouldn't be so bad if the place wasn't so disgusting. I left. I really don't think this office and its exam rooms have even been painted in 20 years, and the paneling, cabinets, and counter tops are from the early '80s. They need to learn not to over-schedule and put a little money into the place. I am very disappointed in what has become of Allen Veterinary Hospital. We have been going there since 1999, when it was just Dr. Overton; long before Dr. Coffman began running the clinic. I need to find a new vet - any suggestions? Please please DO NOT take your pets here! Pets are DYING by the multitude due to improper anesthesia and due to misdiagnosis. Do NOT ever take your vet here especially if they are undergoing any type of anesthesia. We're talking basic neutering/spaying, dental cleaning, etc.. Healthy pets again are dying here! I have taken my dog here who was misdiagnosed, and know several people whose healthy pups were put under anesthesia and did not come out alive. One took her healthy puppy in to be neutered, and the other took her healthy pup to have his teeth cleaned- BOTH DIED!! When Dr. Overton ran the office it was great, but he retired. So many complaints have been received for Dr. Mcanally, and Dr. Coffman- but no one is reporting to the state. Please report to the state- very surprised they still work there.Here's are several reports from people who have gone there. I don't know how they can stand by while so many innocent healthy animals die! Their office also calls people to take down bad reviews... I will NOT be taking my review down! Wish I could give zero stars! This place is under review now by the State of TX. If your animal has suffered harm or death due to this clinic. Please report it to the state of TX. To file a complaint you must: 1.) submit your complaint in writing by using this form: (form can be found at veterinary.texas.gov)- it is two pages long 3.) you will need to outline the details of your complaint and get a copy of medical records, 4.) Fax complaint and info to: 512-936-0837 Medical records can be requested from the clinic via phone or made in person. Phone number to clinic is 972-727-8383. The office has to keep records for seven years- if they tamper or destroy documents/evidence- they will be prosecuted. The reason why this place is so cheap and always packed is because they stack appointment upon appointment and then cut corners to save on costs. Your pet deserves better! read more

We are thankful to have found this vet! We recently had to put down our kitty, Mufasa. They helped us fight for him as much as we could until we knew there was nothing to do. They gave us the best care, kept him for a few nights and kept us updated at every turn. My four year old loved the animals in the office and the seasonal decor as well! We've been through so many vets that tried to get us to do the most expensive tests or operations that weren't necessarily needed. We were pleased with the costs, and never felt pressured. Prices are wonderful! They offer the most affordable teeth cleanings for your pet, and the gentleman who performs them is awesome, Will. $110 + meds, which includes any teeth needing pulled!! I've had many experiences with them and I will continue to be a customer of theirs. They have walk-in hours and I've never had a problem booking an appointment either.
