My cat got sick very suddenly and when the emergency vet recommended euthanasia, I wanted to take her home to.process and try to plan what was going to happen. It was also over a holiday weekend, so I knew my options may be limited. I am so grateful that Dr. Henderson responded to my website inquiry that I submitted late on New Years Eve the next morning, on New Years Day, and was available the following day. It was less than 3 days from going to the emergency vet to the say she died, so I'm glad she didn't suffer any longer. Dr. Henderson was quick respond to my emails, answer my questions, and confirm the appointment. The website has a lot of useful information and I was able to be prepared. On the day of the appointment, she called me when she was on the way. When she arrived, it wasn't rushed, and she gave me time to say goodbye and also keep some fur and a paw print. I had her remains back in just a few days and she gave me the option of delivery or picking them up at her vet clinic. I opted for the latter since I didn't want the remains to be outside on a day I wasn't able to be gone. Even at pickup, she came out from work and sat with me to go over everything she was handing over. It was the worst day of my life losing my best friend, but I know she didn't go in pain, and Dr. Henderson took such good care of her. My 12-year-old, 72 lb., front tri-pawd Husky mix Etta, was a sweet, beloved part of our family. She was a rescue that had been part of our family for 10 years. Her amputation was due to cancer about 2 years ago. She had gradually, over about 3 weeks, stopped walking. It started with having difficulty standing up from a laying down position, to not being able to stand at all. After evaluation by her vet we started medications that didn't help. There was then a frantic hospital visit when her symptoms got worse. Both vet and the hospital neurologist recommended euthanasia. I was not ready for that. She was fine, she looked great, she just couldn't walk! Reality finally sunk in. It took a final visit with the vet, who went through the physical evaluation and testing while explaining everything and what it meant, mostly negative reflexes and signs. I accepted the prognosis. When we were ready, we contacted both Lap of Love and Beyond the Rainbow since they both had excellent reviews. Beyond the Rainbow had such a warm and caring tone when I called for information it struck a chord with me. Their rates were less than the other organization, but most importantly, their standard service included many things that were extra with the other company. For my dog, the price was $575, which included a private cremation (not communal), clay paw print, fur clipping, and my dogs' ashes were brought back to me in a beautiful cedar box with her name. Depending on where you live in the DFW area, there may be a travel charge. Dr. Heiniman was the veterinarian who assisted us during this time. She was very caring and patient. She guided us through what to expect. She encouraged us to give our dog her favorite snack while she gave her the sedative. After observing it taking effect, she gave us time to spend with our Etta. She stepped out of the house and told us to come get her when we were ready. After her return, Dr. Heiniman explained that once she injected the medication into her vein, it would be 1-2 minutes before she took her last breath. It took a couple of minutes and she was peacefully gone. The doctor gave us more time after she passed, until we were ready. Everything was so respectfully and caringly done. We never felt rushed. When our cat Margot was nearing her final days, I was terrified of losing her, and equally terrified of not ending her pain soon enough. When I discovered home hospice care was an option, I was relieved but freshly terrified that I would end up with somebody who would treat it as something routine or that something would go wrong. Dr. Henderson banished all of those worries, and gave our cat the absolute best care and attention and grace that I wanted so badly for her to have. The doctor came a day earlier than agreed upon due to Margot's condition and didn't make us feel bad for asking. Margot got to lay in the sun comfortably while the doctor expertly administered the sedative, and gave us ample time to let Margot know how much we love her, while also not letting us suffer too long watching her. And after it was over, she was so patient with me while we worked out the inevitable logistics of cremation and urn delivery. I cannot recommend Beyond the Rainbow or Dr. Henderson enough for giving anyone's pet a graceful, respectful path to their final rest as she did for us. After initially having to cancel on them once because my husband wasn't ready, they were extremely graceful and easy to work with when it was time. Hello fellow Yelpers and Yelpettes. I contacted Beyond the Rainbow among many others. Of the ten that I contacted their were only two that called back. Thankfully it was Dr. Heinemann. I explained that my ten year old puppy's health was in decline and it was time for him to pass peacefully. We had a couple of days to bath him in all the love we could give. Dr. Heinemann was extremely compassionate letting us say goodbye. My puppy was able to pass at home. This made all the difference! Dr. Heinmann delivered his ashes a week after his passing. When we finally came to the realization that it was time to put our almost 10 year old bulldog Wilbur down, we knew we wanted to do it at home. We did not want it to be in a clinical setting at the vets office. We wanted him to feel comfortable, surrounded by the things he loves, right to the very end. This decision could not be taken lightly so after a lot of research we chose Beyond The Rainbow. I called and talked to Dr. Heinemann and she was fantastic answering all my questions, and was able to understand me through my tears. When I had questions later, she was great to reply to those as well. On the day of, she was so fantastic explaining everything that would happen. She played with Wilbur some and was able to see why we had reached this very tough decision. She gave us reassurance that we were making the right choice. We were able to give Wilbur one last treat of ice cream while she gave him meds to relax him. He passed with us holding him and telling him how much we loved him until the very end. He was on his favorite love seat with his favorite blanket. While it was absolutely devastating to our family, to say goodbye to our sweet boy, it was also the most beautiful way for him to go. After he passed, she left us to have some time alone with him. Once we were ready, she came back in and my husband helped carry him out. We had him cremated and about a week later Dr. Heinemann delivered him back to my house , along with his paw print and clippings of hair. We had picked out an urn ahead of time so his ashes were already in it. I was so glad I did not have to drive to pick him up. This was the absolute toughest decision to make and one of the hardest things we have ever been through. Being able to say goodbye in such a beautiful way, in our home, was exactly what our family needed and what Wilbur deserved. I have told everyone I know since his passing who have pets, if you have a chance to do this at home, do it. Sadly, all pet owners must say goodbye to their pets one way or another. If possible, there is no better way to honor your fur baby than doing it at home and I cannot imagine a more compassionate company than Beyond the Rainbow. I can't find enough words to praise this wonderful service , in particular Dr. Heineman who came to our house yesterday morning to assist my Irish Setter over the Rainbow Bridge. Just her demeanor alone was comforting and helpful in reassuring me I had made the right decision. Seamus had bad hip dysplasia and Sunday afternoon went down and was unable to get up. I suspected that something else was also going on as he had lost a lot of weight over the past 6 months but my vet wanted to see if we could get some weight back on him before running lots of tests. As he was lying on the floor, unable to get up, but not showing any signs of pain, I noticed his belly getting bigger and assumed he was building up fluid. To make a long story short, when Dr. Heineman looked at him, she said there was more going on than just the hip dysplasia which verified in my mind I had made the right decision. She gave my daughter ( who had driven up from Belton to be with me) and me as much time with Seamus loving on him and giving him treats. As she proceeded, Seamus had the most peaceful and loving transition over that sweet bridge. I will be forever indebted to Dr. Heineman for her care of Seamus AND my daughter and myself. All I knew was that I wanted my baby to transition peacefully in the privacy of our own home. I contacted Beyond The Rainbow on a Thursday, and they were able to accommodate our request to have a vet come in on Saturday. When Dr. Henderson arrived, she explained the entire process to us. We have never had to put a pet to sleep so she made sure she answered every question we had. She was so gentle, caring, and understanding of our baby Dubzee, and everything we were going through. The Dr allowed us to take our time, gently explained the process before during and after. Allowing us time before, during and after to love on and hold our little Cloud was such a gift. We had recommendations for two other facilities. Both offered far less service for a couple of hundred dollars more. If you are reading this, you are likely in an emotionally devastating place.
