I am a collector of hats. For well over a year now I have been looking Burns style cowboy hat... pinch crown flat brim with a pencil roll. Enter Allen's Boots in Austin. While they did not have exactly what I was looking for, much to my amazement they were able to create exactly what I was looking for! Custom blocked while I waited! I picked a Resistol sage green 4 1/4 brim and they reshaped the crown, flattened the brim and gave it a 3/8" pencil roll to boot (sorry/not sorry for the pun!) If you get a hat made for you there, be sure to ask for Will. Not only is he a master of his craft, he is the real deal! While working on my hat he regaled us with tales of cowboys, cowboy hats and how they are made. I came here from California expecting to buy some great cowboy boots. I walked in and the guy at the front said hello but he was too busy on his cell phone to do anything but say hello.. I went down all the aisles tried on about 20 pair of boots and not one person came to help me. Keep in mind I was expecting to spend $400-$500 on a pair of boots instead I walked out what the hell is wrong with their customer service when they're selling $500 boots? Not very impressed with this place. They are basically like the Walmart of boots. The ladies who greet you when you walk in the door are extremely friendly. I was looking for boots and as I went over to that section and started looking around it's pretty overwhelming. The first two pair of boots I pulled off the shelf had the insole coming off or out of the boot. That didn't make me feel so comfortable on getting a high-quality pair of boots. So I decided I would move on and look for a hat. I did buy a hat and I have to say the guy working behind the hat counter was rude and pushy. OK I get it you have to pay for the hat before they shape it. But the guy wouldn't even answer basic questions every time I ask him something about the shaping of the hat or would it be able to be possible we have to pay for before I shape it. I think he said that five times. I ended up getting it and now regret it because I saw better hats at better prices with friendlier people up the street at Cavender's boot city. I did get a hat there also. A huge difference in friendliness, no pushiness and extreme helpfulness. If you were looking for hats I would go to that place or another location and you'll get better service. I ended up getting boots at Tecovas wow what a difference in quality and customer service. They made you feel at home and valued. The only reason I gave this place two stars instead of one is it appears people like them because they've been around so long. Might be a nice place to visit walk around and see you've been there but go someplace else. I also forgot how rude they treated my daughter , husband and kids when they were checking out. All of the employees really seemed more worried about what songs were playing on their stereo system than the customers. read more

I loved visiting Allens Boots! Upon walking in, I was kindly greeted by a salesman. The endless aisles of leather boots is a boot-lovers dream! They have a huge selection for women, men, and children. And there's something within everyone's budget from a $100 to $1000+! Boots are sectioned according to womens, mens, and children and each aisle is sorted by size. I was there for at least an hour trying on several boots. It's a tough decision with so many choices! There's also western apparel and accessories, like cowboy hats and Bolero ties, for both men and women. Service is excellent. The selection can be overwhelming so I appreciate the occasional check in from a salesperson. Check out was easy too. I like the giant reusable Allens Boots shopping bag too. Allen's boots has a great selection of boots for both men and women, in terms of variety. Cost is another matter. First of all, I clearly understand good quality boots can be pricey. That's not the issue. Nearly everything I picked up in the women's section was more than $500. My husband even found a $4,400 pair of boots. The overall feeling of the store was that it is an over-priced tourist trap. We found amazing boots at much better price points and quality at other shops. If you want to go just to check it out, go for it. But you can find much better value for your money elsewhere. read more

He was extremely patient, as I'm no Texas gal, just a gal from the big city of Chicago! When you walk in, you're just mezmorized by all the boots. It's just aisles of boots. You can try on any boot and they are organized by size. There are so many helpful people, but Andrew took the time to help me out and make sure I find what I want. Megan was amazing. She took my husband and myself all around the store, spent quite a bit of time helping us find boots that were JUST right. We didn't end up purchasing anything (I'm sorry, Megan!) but only because everything we absolutely loved was fat outside of our budget. Think $1000 + dollars. If I had a lifestyle where I wear boots regularly, it would make sense. They have some really high quality boots in stock. They carry other stuff like hats and belts but the focus here is boots. They have added a Lucchese store which is nice and making this place a bit more upper scale. Visited Austin last weekend for the first time and really enjoyed walking up and down South Congress. After checking out Heritage Boots up the street and then walking out with my tail between my legs (they carry FANTASTIC boots, some of the most well-crafted art specimens I've ever laid eyes on in my life don't get me wrong - plus the staff was kind, but the no touch / no photo policy / $$$$ price tags lord help me) I stumbled upon Allen's and felt a lot more at-home. They offer a wide selection of boots and what I love is that there are no pushy salespeople following you around. So with that being said it's definitely more of a self-service vibe. Some people might see it as a "lack" of customer service but I prefer to have more privacy for my shopping experience. The woman that helped me check out was so friendly and helpful. She recommended that I try on my boots one more time before purchasing to make sure my heel went up and down in the boot. She explained how, as time goes on, the leather around the ankle will sink and make that area tighter - so it's important that the boots aren't as tight as a glove when they're brand new. I bought a pair of Liberty Black boots - and they're TURQUOISE. Couldn't be more "me". I had the most wonderful customer service experience at Allen's Boots on South Congress yesterday. A few months ago, I was gifted my first pair of boots. I was present when they were purchased, but, due to my total lack of knowledge about boots, I ended up with with a pair that was ill-fitting. The well-intentioned sales rep. with whom we spoke really encouraged me to go with a very snug fit. I listened, aware of my lack of expertise, but after wearing the boots for several outings, I began to panic. I knew my beautiful new shoes were not going to work out. They were causing me so much pain. And I was devastated; they were such a meaningful gift to me and I wanted so badly to continue to wear them. I was very concerned about what my options would realistically be when I returned to Allen's with questions, so I put off going. The dream would be acknowledgement that the boots were far too small, that they were indeed hurting far more than new boots should, and that there was another pair available (in exactly the same style) that would fit me perfectly. I didn't see how this all would be possible- surely there would be complicated return policies and my style either wouldn't be on the shelves anymore or my size wouldn't be an option. When I returned to the boot store, nervous that I may be told this situation was "too bad and so sad" and that if I preferred another pair I would need to fork over a significant amount of money to buy them, I found that the dream was actually a reality at Allen's Boots. I checked in with the women at the front desk (Angie and Paris) and they couldn't have been kinder or more helpful. They sincerely listened to me, acknowledged that I had indeed been sold a pair of shoes that were very much not for me, and did everything they could to help me find the exact same boot, in my size. They introduced to me Taylor, who helped me locate my boots in half a size up, and who walked through multiple steps to ensure I would be happy with my new shoes and that they wouldn't hurt me . We tried on multiple different sizes, she felt my feet in the shoes to make sure my toes and arches were in the correct spots, and she showed me how to use leather conditioner to make wearing a new pair of boots significantly more comfortable. I just really can't thank Angie, Paris, and Taylor enough, and I am hoping Allen's will give them all well-deserved recognition for being awesome at their jobs and genuinely kind people. My original pair of boots were something I would not be able to afford to purchase for myself. They were gifted to me by somebody who means a lot to me, a lot of thought and care went into selecting them, and the present was incredibly generous. I was really genuinely sad when I realized that I wasn't going to be able to wear them anymore because of how much pain they were causing me and the long-term damage I could see them inflicting in the future. I was so nervous about going back in to Allen's and what my options might be, and I am beyond thrilled that I now can enjoy my beautiful shoes. Thank you ladies for your time and consideration! I have lived in Austin for 3 years, and didn't own boots. Just never quite felt Texas enough. I strolled into Allen's on a whim and bought my first pair of Lucchese boots at today. I have never been more impressed by service than I was here! Having worked many retail hours in my day, I am particular (and nitpicky... there, I said it!) about the standard of service I receive when shopping. Usually I'm withdrawn and want to be left alone to do my thing. A gentleman approached me with a casual word and we began chatting. He was attentive and informative, helping me carefully select my pair based on size, style and color. When I'd zeroed in on my favorites... He hand-worked the ostrich heel on the left boot, creating the perfect fit! I don't know which I loved more, the boots or this kind man! I knew I'd trust his hat expertise, so we headed there next for a match. He walked me through sizing, brands, styles, materials, the whole deal - I'm an information nerd and loved learning! I settled on a Charlie One Horse straw that had a slight blemish, but it was the last one. He offered to order, but I just knew I needed that one right then. When we got to the register, the Lucchese's rung up at a different price than the sticker reflected. The gentleman must've seen the disappointment on my face, and immediately said he'd be right back. He went to check with his GM, came over and said they'd honor the price! It was a substantial discount, and I didn't even ask because I didn't think it'd be right to given the difference. They did right by me every step of the way! I, of course, gratefully purchased my first pair with confidence that I won't be going anywhere but Allen's in the future! What an incredible shopping experience - a wonderful team ready to assist, and a beautiful selection of boots! I was looking for a pair of Justin lace up bull hide ropers to replace my 25 year old pair. Found out that they haven't been made for several years. Went several places in San Antonio and Austin and just couldn't find anything that fit enough to even do break in. Went in to Allen's and looked around tried a couple pairs before Nannette Medrano stopped by to help after her last customer.
