Don't expect a lot of space to stretch your arms and you'll probably wait a bit to be seated. If these things don't bother you, then try out this restaurant. THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS!!!! There are roughly 6 workers and they bust their butts to provide excellent service. Lots of food for little price. Heads up, they only take cash but have an ATM machine inside for your convenience. Wow, we've been on a roll finding some excellent 5-star gems & Allen's Corner Diner did not disappoint! It truly is a tiny little diner with 6 tables & the counter so if you go there at typical breakfast peak times there may be a line, especially on a weekend. We went on a weekday around 9 a.m. and luckily there were 2 tables open. They serve breakfast & lunch as well and they have daily specials listed on their chalkboard in addition to their usual menu items. The service was excellent, both our breakfasts were delicious, and coffees were refilled promptly. Their meatloaf is the BEST meatloaf I've ever had (don't tell Mom...lol). I had the meatloaf in the Mama Jane's Breakfast which was a slice of meatloaf they toasted on the griddle, 2 eggs, hashbrowns (you can ask for onions to be added...do it!) and toast. First time I came here it reminded me of an old fashion diner with limited seating. It is the Perfect place to order breakfast the way you like it. They are open for lunch and breakfast every day. Their poached eggs are incredible and the prices on their daily specials are reasonable. If you're lucky enough to come the day the owner makes baked treats you will be delighted. They only take cash, no credit cards, but given the low price point of the meals it seems reasonable. read more

Waitresses weren't wearing masks either, so I guess Covid hasn't travelled here yet!! Ha! We'll wait to go back.... Covid is real & not worth the chance of getting it & passing it on to someone else. I can't say enough about this cute little diner. I love places that treat you like family and make the food fresh. The biscuits and gravy were phenomenal and my son's pancakes were the size of his head. The hash browns with the onions grilled perfectly, so yummy! The service was very friendly, and even though the place is small they don't rush you. When I am out this way again, I will make it a point to stop again. Keep up the good work! read more

We (My daughter and her finance') were looking for breakfast after picking up a bed in Huntley and stumbled upon Allen's Corner Diner just a few minutes off of our return route. The special of the day was the country fried steak which we all opted for, electing to have onions added to the hash browns (a good call). The CFS was crispy and delicious, the white gravy was bold and flavorful and the optional Cinnamon Roll Pancakes were fabulous. Once again, the best of all possible reasons to choose a local restaurant over a chain. I can't imagine how one could be more pleased. Clearly a local treasure and, one that has been around since 1921. I would go out of my way in the future to give this place my patronage. If you want to be happy where you spend your money, I would recommend this place, or...you could go to McCareLess and have a McBreakfast and feel the eternal gratitude of corporate America. Allen's Corner is the quintessential country diner. All the basics you'd expect and they are prepared perfectly. I am a breakfast guy and I've tried over half the items on the breakfast menu. Can honestly saying I didn't have one I disliked. Their biscuits could be a little fluffier. It is cash only so be prepared (they have an ATM). No big deal for me but it does irritate some. I'm there 2 or 3 mornings a week. read more

We were in the area doing a volunteer gig helping harvest corn for the Greater Chicago Food Depository and we drove by this on the way and I knew I wanted to have brunch here after. So we headed here hungry after working in the sun and knew it would be good when we drove up and almost all the parking spaces were full and there was a line. After waiting about 15min we were seated, all the waitresses were friendly and good came out pretty fast even though they were busy. They are supposedly famous for their skillets (also known as stir fries!) and I had the chorizo skillet which was great. I also only had the half size which was huge and still came with 2 eggs so I can only imagine what the full size would be! Everyone really enjoyed their meals and the space was really homey and I enjoyed trying another local diner out. Also enjoyed the non city prices!! read more

I'm a breakfast guy, especially on vacation, and this place does everything right. I've been here probably 15 times over the last 5 years. My folks live in nearby Huntley, so when I come visit them I request that we go to Allen's Corner. The coffee is stiff and the pour is always near. There's a friendly vibe through and through. It's a transitioning farm community and so you're likely to see hard-working people who have finished their early-morning duties at the counter. Regulars. The eggs are exceptionally fresh. So, if you like over-easy, your yolks are gonna spill beautifully and with vibrant color and flavor onto the plate. The toast can sop up what you don't catch with the fork. They ask if you want onions in your hash browns. They're great either way. Also good is the egg sandwich that includes a slice of meatloaf. They used to call it the Sammy but now it has a different name. Consistently fresh eggs, good coffee, great service and a friendly atmosphere make it a must try - especially for breakfast - if you're in these parts. read more
