Adulting definition: the practice of completing the mundane, responsible tasks expected of a fully functioning grown-up. As a home owner you have a lot of responsibilities where you need to juggle many responsibilities such as but not limited to finances, insurance, property taxes, preventative measures and maintenance. The other week I wasn't feeling well and stayed home from work which ended up a blessing in disguise as I had a leak in one of my 50 gallon tanks. I noticed the leak from the night before where I shut all but one valve and turned off the electric breakers. As water leaks can lead to property damage, I had to immediately get a plumber as I'm not a DIY person. I reached out to my BIL where he recommended either Allen's Plumbing (AP) or Roto Rooter. I decided to first check AP on Yelp and saw low ratings from good friends of Peter Y. and Victoria A. It's unfortunate my friends had below average experiences with AP where I was skeptical. But I trust my BIL and took the leap of faith. AP is a local company that started in 1982 servicing 24-hour service to both Oahu and Maui. The process was simple and efficient. I called first thing on a Friday morning and after addressing my issue, I was advised their plumber can be at my home at around 11am. Their dispatch contacted me a little before 11am to inform Jonah, their plumber, is on his way and arrived at about 1120am. After the assessment, it was determined that one of my hot water tanks had both internal and external leaks. I was provided an onsite quote of replacing the tank, installation, labor, parts, and disposal of the old tank. I was forewarned by my BIL of the higher than usual quote with AP, but trusted the integrity, service and professionalism of AP and agreed to the proposal. After committing to the quote, staff went on the road to secure my water tank replacement and came back about an hour later. This allowed me some time to clear the area and place more towels on the floor as water accumulated. When the staff returned, I advised them to use the side gate for a much easier access to the wash room. Luckily it was a breezy and sunny afternoon, ideal conditions in transporting the water tanks and installation. It took about 3 hours for Jonah and his colleague to disconnect and remove the damaged tank and install the new tank. I'm no expert in this field but waited patiently as I do have solar panels which perhaps caused extra steps in removing and installing. When I saw one of the staff load a box with the leaking water tank into their van, I sensed the task was soon to be completed. Prior to Jonah leaving, I did also mention my sink fixture in one of the bathrooms needed to be replaced where he also gave me a quote. It was already late so it was agreed I'd be calling back once I've made arrangements to have my sister house sit for me due to my work schedule. I paid my bill in full and the boys left my home. I had some minor tidying up to do as the laundry room floor was still wet. Overall, an amazing first experience with AP where I'd be sure to contact them again. I am impressed of their service, professionalism, dedication and knowledge of their industry by providing the service to get the job done. Note that due diligence is also required by the consumer. Saturday morning, after 14 yrs my water heater finally tapped out and started leaking through the bottom insulation and panels. Thankfully, we caught it in time!! No water or mold damage to my unit or the connecting unit.. whew...!! I messaged a few companies via yelp and some were very slow to respond (days later), but [[HIGHLIGHT]]Allen's Plumbing were surprisingly instantaneous. I'm sure it was a bot at first, messaging me for heater info, but once info was submitted, Kane (Allen's rep) contacted me and started appointment process.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]By Sunday I was locked in for a job assessment appointment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Though there was some unplanned, uncontrollable challenges the day of assessment appointment, Kaohu (Allen's scheduler), was able to request necessary information / photo's to keep the work process moving forward. Thankfully this made things so much easier and faster.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] By the end of the phone call I was booked for heater replacement. Following day I received another call from financing as I chose to finance the repair instead of out of pocket.. (yes they have financing options).. they let me know that I was approved for financing and that they would furnish me with a quote. Later that day I received the quote for 3 repair options: 1) replace in kind, 2) replace entire system: heater, solar panel, circ pump, piping and valves, or 3) downsize and upgrade to hybrid system. The quote was very transparent! Cost to replace, discovery work, tax credits and even cost of equipment and valve replacements that was not included in option 1 package. I took a gamble and chose option 1 - 'replace in kind' hoping my existing equipment and valves were still good and functional. Thursday came and the technician's showed up.. I call em the 3-J's: Jonah, Jesse, and Jaren (haha). They got their tools and equipment situated and got right to work. Pulled out the old heater and installed new heater. Relocated existing pipes and circ pump to now sit on top of heater, freeing up some space in my already small/ storage less townhouse.. The team was very polite and kind, worked well with each other and very respectful with noise.. I almost forgot they were out there working lol. Anyhow, the boys got it done, left the place cleaner then I gave it to them and walked me through the install and changes before they left. Really appreciated the work they did and how professional they were. Side note: option 1) replace in kind. This option did not include circ pump, mixing valve and or controller. If my equipment didn't function correctly it would have been additional cost to me. So big gamble on my part. I'm highlighting this because the guys made every effort to inspect existing equipment and since found in good condition, did not replace it 'just to make the sale'. So I felt effort and honesty should be highlighted in this review. I really REALLY appreciate that about this company and work crew. They weren't out to take my make money. We have used Allen's Plumbing multiple times to repair both residential and commercial leaks. They have consistently been responsive and professional over the years, albeit a little pricey, which is warranted because of their responsiveness. Today, however, was a different story. Today, Saturday at 1:00 pm, a second floor office tenant called and said a water supply pipe in the shared Women's bathroom was leaking and there was a lot of standing water on the bathroom floor. She said she shut off the supply valve but water continued to leak. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I immediately called Allen's Plumbing because of their past responsiveness and repair excellence. However, their answering service took several minutes to record the service request. When giving her the address, I must have had to say and spell "Waialae" five times before she got it correct.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]She told me Allen's would call back in 20 minutes. They actually took 39 minutes to call back.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The kicker was that after I had explained in detail to the answering service that a pipe was leaking and we needed service immediately to repair since the shutoff valve was not turning off the water, and water was all over the floor in the second floor restroom and leaking into the first floor bakery, the Allen's Plumbing nitwit who returned my call asked if I needed immediate service or could wait until a future time for their service.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When I reiterated to the nitwit that the pipe was leaking and this couldn't wait for future service, he said we don't have anyone to do the repair today. I am thinking, then why the F ask if I need service immediately? Great, so I thought.... Hours whet by and no call or no plumber to fix the hot water heater. Kitchen sink has been draining progressively slower. After multiple self remedy treatments such as baking soda and vinegar, hot water from the faucet and boiling water from the electric tea kettle, decided to leave it to the professions. ALLENS PLUMBING my go to reliable professionals, who I have used consistently in the past and they have never let me down. My go to plumber at Allens plumbing is Bennett Peters, called for service on Sunday and requested Bennett, lucky he could come out on his second appointment Monday, can't beat that! Bennett Peters showed up at 11 am, after his initial appointment. Bennett took care of my immediate needs, clogged p trap and pipe, I then asked what else could be done as preventative maintenance, I trust Bennett's professional opinion as he always tells it straight, what I might need and what I don't need. Bennett took care of the Basket Strainer and Flanged Tailpiece. As I always go to Bennett Peters and Allen's Plumbing for all my plumbing needs I signed up for their Ohana Membership program, for a fee, but it will save my monies on the next call out. I regret not checking Yelp reviews--especially Cindy's, Thom's, and Dana's--before contacting Allen's Plumbing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We scheduled an appointment, which was confirmed, but the technician never showed up on Friday, nor did we receive any phone call. We had to reach out ourselves to check on the status.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When the work was finally done, we were charged over $800 for a simple valve replacement that took just one hour--a shocking discrepancy between the work performed and the price. No clear breakdown of costs was provided, just a quick "please sign here" as an iPad was pushed in front of us. Later, when asked for a breakdown, we saw that one of the charges was for "shut down water at main control", which meant walking outside and turning off with a handle with no wrench needed. At the start, we were told the estimate would depend on the scope of work, such as opening the wall, but as non-experts, we expected a transparent explanation to make informed decisions. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. We will never use Allens Plumbing again and will be sure to share our experience with friends and family. read more

Created 10,000 worth of damage to my unit and then claimed they didn't do anything. Kerry, from Steven's Plumbing Service, came over to snake the line of a clogged kitchen drain. He wanted to charge us $800, which included a $70 savings, to snake ONLY the kitchen plumbing. He told us that even if he were wrong about the solution he would provide, we would still need to pay $800. (Guy was out of his mind). Once we told him "no," Kerry walked right out without saying a thing and drove away. We called up Allen's Plumbing immediately and got a quote for $197 as opposed to an $800 bill. The W/H is in a tight closet with lots of pipes running between the W/H and the a/C making it challenging to install especially such a heavy item. The Plumbers, who came, Daniel and Kapoi, were respectful, professional, and did a great job. Being in a high-rise, it was a little expensive but worth it for a stress-free installation. read more

We've been using Allen's Plumbing for the last 9 years. Everything from standing water in our tub, water heater installation and this time to check out sewer line with a camera, Allen's Plumbing has been our go to business for all our plumbing needs. I'm always impressed on how professional the staff is. I rarely have to wait more than a day to get service. And they are open 7 days a week. We had a really weird experience with one of our toilets. There was a loud rumbling behind the walls and then all of a sudden the water in the toilet bowl came shooting out. It was the weirdest and slightly scary thing. Thankfully Allen's Plumbing was able to come over and check it out. It wasn't anything too serious. We appreciated Bennett able to put a camera down the pipe to make sure there wasn't anything bad going on. Bennett was professional, friendly and very respectful. Appreciated his hard work and sharing the video feed while he navigated the camera through the plumbing. Allen's Plumbing has consistently provided excellent service and a fair price. read more

Here's the pros: they do answer the phone when you call, even later at night and they offered emergency services for an additional $300 but I could wait till the next day for my issues. Reps were very nice on the phone. Getting someone to come out to my area of the island was also an additional plus. Cons: my tub diverter/spout needed to be replaced. When the worker came, he took everything apart to see if he could fix things and mentioned that the original repairs were done wrong and that he could risk breaking a pipe if he went ahead and repaired things properly. In my mind, since I'm not a plumber, I trusted what he said but on the flip side, I've been living in my unit for almost 6 years and never had an issue with the spout the way that it was so I'm assuming it was originally done properly. To make a long story short, he found a way to get a new spout back on so my shower could work but the sealing that he used is already cracked and the spout is loose... that was never an issue before and I'm very upset considering I paid almost $300 for this and it's not very secure. He never went over payment plans with me even though on the phone, I was told that he would. He also kept mentioning he didn't want to be held responsible for things breaking later on or damage- I definitely understand his concerns but as a professional apart of a reputable business, he shouldn't have been worried about his ability to do his job nor should he have been expressing that to a customer. All in all, I'm disappointed because I don't know how to resolve this sealing issue on the loose spout I paid almost $300 for. read more

Called Allen's for minor plumbing (the hose was stuck onto the washer spigot and after trying all YouTube suggestions and DIY remedies - the hose was stuck and water was already leaking probably from our attempts to untwist the hose attachment. "Let's just call a plumber, they may just need to replace the spigot without further damage," hubby said. Made the call and unfortunately could not accommodate an immediate appointment (a day later) only to find out on the day of the appointment that "the plumber's running behind and we need to reschedule to the next day." A day is not gonna kill me so we agreed. Only to wait all morning for a 12 noon appointment then to be called 30 minutes prior to reschedule AGAIN because their technician "may not be familiar with that job." (Insert wtf face) I guess we won't be calling them again. Zero service and 1 star customer service. read more

Scheduled Allens Plumbing for a quote to replace a main shutoff, was resscheduled 2 times. When the plumber showed up a very high quote was provided based on other quotes. Also I was told that there was a $60.00 trip charge for the quote, I was not made aware of this until the technician told me. After disccusing the charge was waved. Note that other competitors such as Steve's Plumbing, EverTrust plumbing and others do not charge for quotes or "Trip charges". I have to mention that the people on the front desk as well as the technician were curtious and proffesional. I would not recomend this service. read more

A friend referred me to Alan's Plumbing she was very pleased with the service they had provided for her single family home for many the company is based out of Maui but does service oahu. I had a small issue with my bathroom Basin needing to replace the cartridge in the faucet where it was starting to leak. Prior to this call I was so impressed with what I have been told I signed up for their Ohana program it's quite a good deal you need to look into it. He tried his best to get to the cartridge in the basin, as I watched him it absolutely appeared that the unit was frozen after all it was 10 years old . He discussed what we could do and gave me the option of getting an entirely new faucet. I chose the new faucet , and I do not regret getting it . He brought it upstairs showed it to me I explained to him my concerns about the unit as I am on the 6th floor of a condominium and truly cannot afford leaking into my neighbor's apartment he understood he spent time doing this and put all of his knowledge of Plumbing into the job to make it work right. All in he was there for approximately an hour and a half I have an amazing new bathroom faucet , and probably don't need to do anything about it for another 10 years or more. I know we're all trying to be very frugal and make wise decisions . A wise decision is when you have pride in your property and do make the changes and update what needs to be updated ​ deferred maintenance never is a good idea. d a v i n I thank you ​ so far all is well and I have had nothing but compliments from friends about the unit you installed . As I joked with you you just up the appraisal of my apartment by that upgrade. We've had Allen's Plumbing come by a couple times to fix our faucets. Both times we have had great service. We were lucky to get the same guy come by and fix the problem. He quickly diagnosed the problem and gave us the different options. Both times the job was done efficiently and the most important part no more leaks or water spraying everywhere! Some people say that the prices are a bit steep, but I see it as a convenience and a worth while value. Why? It's peace of mind knowing they have the supplies they need to get the job done right the first time. So yeah, I'll gladly pay the price. Also they're busy, I can guarantee, that if I'm having leaking faucet problems, someone else is having the same problem. We've been lucky that we have been able to get same day service. But the thing is with repair services, you have to be patient, sometimes some jobs take longer than expected, sometimes it's quicker. read more

I thank God that Allen's Plumbing was referred to me. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I think the dispatcher, who was amazing and also able to pick up on my frustration must know his or her technicians/Plumers because Tyiwara A, who was sent out to my home, had patiently listened to all of my complaining (frustration) and assured me that he was there to help me[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I had called and dealt with 4 other plumbing companies before calling Allen's Plumbing. I will not list the names of the companies as that would be slandering which I am not taking apart of, but let's just say that all four of those "Plumbing Companies" were clueless and did not provide much information on how to remedy my leaking pipes. One of the companies didn't even show up. No phone call saying they are running behind or anything. Just did not show up. Tyiwara was the opposite. He explained what the challenge is and what he can do to fix it. Even took the time to draw a sketch educating me on how the indoor plumbing system works and made me feel like, "Ok, now I have someone with years of knowledge that knows what's going on and how we can get this/these leaking pipes fixed and back up to good working conditions. Tyiwara is scheduled to come back later today so we can come up with a plan and execute said plan ASAP. I'm still frustrated at this whole situation as most people would be. Difference is that now I feel like I have a team on my side ready to address the challenge so I can finally get this done. Thanks to Tyiwara! I thought I had a minor issue but as it turned out I had a bigger issue under my sidewalk. Justin was great in finding the. Leak source and patched everything up as good as new and better.
