I went to Allen's Plumbing Supply for my Mr. Cool mini-split heat pump equipment. What a mistake! PLEASE, do not patronize this business! I could have bought this equipment from Amazon for a lower price but I like to patronize local businesses. Unfortunately, I paid considerably more and the customer care was WORSE than I ever thought possible. Amazon will accept returns. Allen's does not, even on un-opened boxes. Johnny Allen IV, the owner was all smiles when I was ordering my system but as soon as the payments went through all "customer care" went out the window. After that they didn't want to know me. The problems started when the equipment wasn't delivered as promised. The equipment was supposed to arrive early on Monday. When they didn't show up by Monday noon, I called and was placed on perpetual hold. Eventually someone told me that they could have the system delivered by 3pm. I had another appointment and so I told them to come at 8am on Tuesday. The goon behind the customer counter should never be allowed to be in a public-facing position. He became absolutely hostile when I tried to explain that just because Allen's was experiencing problems, that doesn't mean that they are MY problems.. The delay cost me a full day of work. Do NOT go to this business for anything. Not even a plastic washer. They are the worst ! read more

Rude employees is saying the least I was told $65.00 for a replacement sink sprayer that I bought the same one at Home Depot for 12.99 Not the first time they've stuck it to me Ran out of heating oil last month they wanted $5.23 a gallon for heating oil and a emergency delivery charge at 1pm on a Friday I live a 5 blocks from the store lady said driver could stop by on his way back to the store ! I got a delivery next day from Merrill oil for 3.85 a gallon with free delivery on a Saturday! I don't understand how they stay in business the owners and employees have a bad attitude and treat the customers like there superior to them ! Rude, no return policy and ignorant to wearing masks. We had purchased the wrong part and went in to return it or get store credit and were told they have a no return policy due to COVID. (All other stores are accepting returns after being 7 months in to the pandemic). The reasoning seemed illogical - the store associate had no mask on! We had a recent occasion to order a new hot water heater from Allen's...Unfortunately the new heater didn't ignite properly...Despite the fact that it was a weekend, the technic (Matthew) made several visits on Sunday to our home to try to repair the malfunction...A new part was Fed-exd to our home, and Matthew installed it and, viola, we have hot water...Matthew could have jut left us hanging until part was received , but he didn't ... he made the extra effort on Sunday morning himself to try to fix it... If you are a homeowner DIY'er, avoid this place at all costs. They are not friendly to DIY'ers, will never take back product (even unopened in original packaging), will not offer to help with recommendations. They are about as unfriendly as you can get in a business. I know they are convenient to Oxford and Seymour, but you are better off spending the extra time to go to Home Depot or Lowe's. read more

I would rather travel a half hour than 10 minutes to go to this place. They can't even be considerate and update their website to show what their true hours are. It says they are open from 9-1 on Sundays and I arrived at 12:15 and the doors were locked. Another customer got out of his car and said to me, John Allen doesn't care about his customers and I then said, I've never been a fan but it's close and it this, I'll never step foot in there again. Look at all the reviews here. John Allen "Mr Cool" is a typical, slimy, scumbag salesman. He will be your best friend until you swipe your card, then he is a ghost. All his promises of support, "anything you need" and to answer any of your questions are out the window. He will sell you a mini split system with the promise of money back from the state of CT. What he won't mention is that instead of DIY (which these systems are sold as), you need to have an Energize CT licensed contractor install these for any rebate. Does he not know, or does he not care? Which is worse? I'll be following up with Mr Cool since he claims to be "working directly with the company." He gave me his personal number on my receipt, only to ignore a majority of my texts which were just simple questions. I'd have to go back to the store to get any support. Once I had had enough, I told him I'd be following up with Mr Cool and leaving appropriate reviews, he got back to me very quickly and gave me every excuse in the book. He also sold me the wrong air handler, which thankfully we noticed before we installed it. It still clicks loudly when it's on, but who wants to hear their TV from 50 feet away when they want to keep warm at night anyway? Save yourself the trouble and buy online, or better yet go to Energize CT and get a better system...these things are junk. (bonus: everyone else that works there is so insanely rude. We generally go out of our way to avoid this store, but it is unfortunally locally conveint. My husband went in to purchase a faucet for our kitchen sink that broke. He can home and attempted to fix it. It was the wrong size and ended up having to go to the manufacturer in Southington to get the proper piece . No big deal. I went to return the faucet--no package but I had the receipt, it was not in the package.............clearly unused.......I got my husband on the cell......he talked to the salesperson and they refused to take back a USED item. It was not used and I had the receipt. Under no circumstances EVER fell comfortable with a purchase that you get there!!!!!! No matter how big or small.......it's just not work it!!!!!! Go to Lowe's or Home Depot or better yet ( I am a believer of supporting local business) got to Southbury Hardware they more than willing to help. . read more

Every time I need a plumbing thingy, Allen's is the place I end up getting the right part. I've brought 5 different brands of the same part from Lowe's and Home Depot, and each brand lasted maybe two weeks, each. Went to Allen's, explained my problem and came home with the right part. I wish I looked at the reviews all over the internet for this incredibly RUDE business before I bought the product that didn't work. When I tried to return it, Pete the clerk got unbelievably hostile, explaining that their "No return policy" is "plastered" all over the store. After several other ignorant remarks, he said he'd "take the heat from the office" and issue a credit. After I got my credit, I told him he needed a course in customer relations and he told me to just get out of the store. I was going to contact the owner, but when I saw all the negative reviews on this hole, they apparently are aware of their crude business practices. read more

This place should be burned down. I worked there for a few weeks and finally told John (the owner) off and stormed out. He treats customers and employees like garbage and works people to the bone. Everyone gets minimum wage and absolutely NO RAISES. There are no breaks, including lunch breaks, and Saturdays are mandatory for all employees. He even tried making everyone work Sundays as well. 7 days a week, no acceptations. Also no vacation time is granted, no time off for doctor's or family time is permitted. You are expected to sign your life over to this guy for minimum wage with NO RAISES. In the short time I was there I witnessed several customers get clearly ripped off and came back to scream at him, and his wife had to call the police several times because it got so bad. They design systems for people and over sell them equipment, and then ABSOLUTELY NO RETURNS, even if the item wasn't opened. I have no idea how he is still in business. John Allen deserves to be dragged out into the street and shot. read more

I pretty much echo what Robert said about Allen's. I'm in construction, and do most of my own plumbing on my house, but am not a plumber. I sometimes don't know the specific term for a part I need, and when I ask I am most often made to feel like an idiot. The prices are regularly %30 higher than Home Depot for the same items, and I got horribly overcharged for a 5" piece of copper pipe which I didn't realize until later. It was the owner who made the mistake, and I had already used the part and I was out of luck. I once got unsolicited advice on buying a 320 gallon propane tank that was delivered with %100 conviction and was %100 wrong. If you must go to Allen's for the convenience of a small part which you don't mind getting gouged on please find one of the younger guys there. I have actually received good and helpful service from one or two of them who haven't been taught to be inept and rude yet. read more
