I am trying my best to help a very close friend settle her debt, in doing so I found out she hired this company without understanding the complexity of the contract they had her sign. I have called now on three separate occasions to settle everything and they keep dodging the the questions and refuse to let me speak to a manager. I am not sure what the next step is as they are not cooperating what so ever and seem to be trying to drag this out. I see they are located in California, can a complaint be issued with the attorney general in California, possibly contact the local news station to get some publicity on the issues at hand as it appears as though all of the reviews are the same, negative. Alleviate took money from my account without my approval. I asked several times for my money back; however, they would not return it. They caused me overdraft fees on other withdrawal. I asked again for my money and the guy in the phone said, "I can't hear you." I had to call my bank to get my money back. This is a scam, they don't tell you all the charges that will be added to have their services. Instead of having to pay half of what you owe in you credit card, they also charge you additional fees. On top of what you are paying to pay of your debt, I had to pay $1350.00 extra for their services. So honestly you are still paying the full amount of what you owe. If you want to pay off your debt early, you still get charged for the additional services. Please don't use this service, it's horrible. I am so frustrated with this company, very misleading on their information and only in it for their fee. I was told no fees would start to be collected until all debts were negotiated and settled. They settled on the smallest debt agreeing to make 25 dollar payments to them and the rest of the payment went to pay their fees. I have been with the program almost two years they have yet to settle another debt but have collected their 25% plus the monthly fees. They called me stating unless I can make additional 200 a month payments they could not negotiate another settlement as I did not have enough in my reserve funds WTH I am paying almost 500 a month to them already, I could of saved my credit and struggled to pay it myself as I had never been late on a payment. I wish I could have read even a few of the reviews posted here before I signed up with Alleviate - all are heartfelt (thank you, Kevin M ) and so very true in the misrepresentation this company promotes, plus the worst customer service I've ever experienced = non-existent. I think the worst part - people who have turned to them are in a bad place and are hopeful. This company preys on this - and often the client is left worse off than before and beyond disappointed. I signed up with this company last November to assist with Debt Resolution. I didn't received ANY type of communication from them regarding the settling of 2 bank accounts for months!- despite numerous phone calls and emails. I was always told by a representative (who is in a call center and you hear other conversations) - they will send a message to the "Negotiation team"? What team? Who are these people? They would not provide details. I asked to personally speak to ANYone regarding my accounts, but I am only informed they will pass on my message. I thought I would be able to work with someone - like when you call your insurance company or tax person. I was convinced when I signed up, to let my 2 bank accounts lapse and the company would reach out and find a settlement amount less than I owed. 5 months later - I had NO communication or updates from them and my bank has not been contacted regarding either account. One of the accounts went to collections (which I did NOT want) and I made arrangements MYSELF with the bank directly (I could have done months ago) on the 2nd account. I didn't want a 2nd account to go to collections. I wish I had just called my bank from the very beginning. So I guess this is how they operate? Do nothing for 5 months collecting almost $500 a month. and then reach out to the creditor who by this time would take any $. I could have done this myself and saved $. I was frustrated - so not only posted a complaint in the BBB website and Trustpilot - I stopped the Autopay. Only then! - did I have communication via email and phone calls (often at odd times) They do tell you that your credit will be affected - but like another client who submitted a review - you just don't think it will plummet. Mine from 754 to 530. So my credit is totally destroyed now because the collections for 7 years. Of note - I had other credit cards with room for emergency expenses...but due to the drop in my credit score - they lowered my credit limit. I had no idea this could happen. God forbid I need my car fixed or something breaks in my house. I feel I did my part - I reached out the minute I received the notice I was eligible for a settlement - no response. I kept trying to make contact - nothing. All I needed was a quick discussion on the account status - isn't that part of what I was paying for? I would have settled at a larger amount - rather than then less - and have a collections debt now on my record. A senior, who operated her own business, was hit hard due to covid. At the time of starting he debt was 81500.00. They explained they could save 30% to 40% off her debt. The senior suggered some health problems. Alliviate was taking almost 50% of her retirement. After 5 years-60 payments should have ended as the terms of the contract ended. She had paid 63,300.00 towards the debt. Turns out 25000.00 is still outstanding. They have money in a trust account, which they will not give back. Well they took another 1055 out of her account in may-aftrr the 60 payments and contract ended. Due to her health this is at a standstill. Not only did they allow one of my major debts to fall into collections without telling me, but when I asked for a refund, they ignored all communication. These people are very kind on the phone, and very forthcoming, to a degree, about their business. Here's basically what they do. First, they collect your business information through an agent that will promise you, sunshine and Santa Claus, blue skies and lollipops.. They will be in contact with your creditors to ensure that your payments get made in a timely fashion and yet magically somehow you will end up debt-free within a certain amount of time through deductions made every month from your account and what are 50% of your perceived debt Now here's the truth: the money they take every month goes into a trust fund that money is split two ways after ignoring your creditors for a Linkley period of time, something you could do yourself. They will offer your creditors, who are desperate at this point to get any amount of money from you they will call you and harass you until you are blue in the face. Once your debt is at 50% of what you owe, keeping in mind that your credit rating is now dropped really low and is in bad shape (I hope you don't need your credit during this time, or some thing comes up where you need to borrow money at an unsuspecting time), they will pay your creditor 50% of what is owed because by four years in a trust fund you will accumulate quite a bit of money. They will make an agreement with your credit card company or bargain with them for paying off your credit at a reduced rate with the agreement that your credit will be shown as paid off in full, and your credit will go back up some, but it takes credit in order to build credit, so if you're not using your credit, then the chances are not going to build any credit. Oh, where is the rest of that money that's in the trust fund after it's been paid off? It goes back to this company so they're going to try and bargain for the lowest price. They can pay these credit cards off at, so they can keep the rest of the money. By the way, I can't guarantee that your credit card companies will ever work with you again since you did an ugly negotiation against them and they didn't make any money. Keep in mind credit card companies are in business to make money too, and they want their interest, so this might work out badly for you . In the end, I decided to pay off my credit cards directly, like I should have in the very beginning, and fix this mess myself. This comes down to morals and ethics. You do what you think is right if you think that credit card companies are scheming liars who are just taking and robbing you and don't deserve to hold you under the guidelines that you agreed to, then go with this company and in the long run you will be fine. I hope no emergencies come up for you in four years. We hired Alleviate Financial Services in April 2023 and paid them $14K to assist with the reduction of our IRS tax debt. They have done nothing to fix the situation which in turn has escalated all of my problems with the IRS. Yes, they have made my situation worse than it originally was, and they have NEVER spoken to the IRS on my behalf. I have days before the IRS will seize all my assets, bank accounts and home. Alleviate does not care and says anything just to get me off the phone. I have been directly lied to, my account has been transferred to multiple people and no one has helped. I advise against doing business with this company. I wish I had looked at Yelp reviews before I did business with them. The opening line for one of their advertisements is " We don't take any fees unless our clients are completely satisfied". That is a lie. I couldn't have been more dissatisfied. You never get the same information twice. If you sign up for the portal you automatically are signing a waiver and you have to use their lawyers if you have a dispute ( I didn't use the portal). You are to get a monthly call to keep you updated on the progress of the work being done with your creditors. I never received one until they knew I was very dissatisfied. When I wanted my money back first I was told I would receive a full credit and after receiving no payment or correspondence I called back and was told they were keeping all of it (over 2000) for fees earned. After 7 months they had only worked with one of my creditors. In the welcome package and through talking with the credit "counselor" it was made to seem after an initial hit to my credit , my credit would start to rebuild fairly quickly. When I spoke to one of the women on the management team and asked how was I going to build back my credit in a timely manner when after 7 months most of my creditors (3) hadn't been approached. Alleviate financial is a scam! If you don't have any financial literacy then this place is for you. Let me start off by saying that the initial call stated that I qualified for a loan. Upon completing the sign up process they called to tell me that its not a loan that it is debt consolidation. Secondly the negotiations are a joke! What they do is tell you stop paying your credit cards to let the interest build and you get a charge off, then they come in with settlement payments thats actually higher than what you could have possibly done on your own. Also be careful on what cards you enroll because if have any cards that have no interest, Alleviate will basically allow the interest to kick which would lead you to pay more than what you initially owed. I had a card that was $520 when enrolled, they offered me a settlement that was $40 more than what I owed. I rejected that settlement offer and they called themselves renegotiating and then I get a "settlement offer" thats now $20 more than the first settlement. This is just one of the my cards enrolled, I'm sure the others will be a headache. Do your research before signing up with them. Your credit will get destroyed and the will give you round about answers to any questions you have read more

So I fell for it and tried it. Back in March of 2020. I was told many different things. I did read and was informed my credit was going to tank. After a couple of years I kept informing them that since they didn't contact a specific creditor that i had set up on autpay. I actually ended up paying them the full amount I owed them which was over 4K. I emailed them the letter showing this. I noticed on my custodial account that several accounts were only been paid just over $1.00. It appeared to me that 1 account that was left (possibly on purpose )after all this time that was still not settled. Even though I had around $2800 in my draft account. Why? With me paying off an account on my own my enrolled debt was over 4K LESS! They also after many of my debts were settled, tried to get me to take a personal loal with another company to "Pay off the Debt Sooner".....why would I get myself in debt with another company for another 3 years when I'm almost done with YOU?!? Yet my payments were higher till the end of my contact. They had the audacity to try and extend it past MY SIGNED CONTRACT, that I still have. When I brought this up the 2nd time then said ...oh let's see about getting you graduated. Are you fing kidding me! I AM POSITIVE THAT I OVERPAID FOR 5 months. If you have to consolidate your debt, I highly encourage you to look for a different company. This company is corrupt. They are NOT here to help you. They will sign you up for an agreed upon monthly payment amount. Then their "negotiators" will offer you settlement terms that won't be covered in that amount. So you'll have to come up with more money. They will try to spin you into getting a loan with their partner company, Fresh Start Lending, which will only set you back even further. I have paid far more money in this program than the total amount of my debt. Between their fees and the interest on my fresh start lending loan, I am paying nearly 50% interest on my debt.
