900 am, October 02, 2025 I'm on time. Check in. Fill out paper work. No one ahead of me. Then a few minutes later, a customer comes in and checks in. WTH, she gets taken ahead of me to do her standard testing before me??? Whatever, it's definitely unappreciated, moving on, minus one star. My time's valuable too. I'm assuming that my optician wasn't ready to test yet as she wasn't the same person I observed earlier. Okay, examination time. I did one standard test, then was asked if I want to have the retinal images done for $29! Haha, later talked to Dr. Mike, he said every other year is fine. Maybe I had forgotten that there's a fee for this imaging. We move on to a different room and my periferal vision done the old fashioned way without a machine? It was one of those "how many fingers an I holding up" test. Then we did a pressure test with a tiny hand held tool. A very different experience from the prior year. We did a check of my 2 current glasses, one of them was my photochromic sunglasses. Both of them were very close to each other in prescription. On to the exam with Dr. Mike... Since I declined the retinal imaging, he did the dilation drops. I'm hindsight, I should have asked for the disposable sunglasses. It was so uncomfortable driving on a bright day afterwards, almost unbearable. Or be sure to have extra dark sunglasses in your car. He did the standard lens checking next. We did that, is 1 or 2 better thing with that massive machine in my face. The result was very little change. I guess I'll have to request the prescription electronically as I was not given a print out. Dr. Mike friendly as he's always been. His care is top notch, the best optometrist ever in my opinion. Parking: there's plenty of street parking as this medical office is in a residential neighborhood. However, in the rear of the building, there are a few spaces and one for disabled with a wheel chair ramp up to the back entrance. read more

We visited Dr Allred because my baby girl was tearing in bright light and our pediatrician recommended we saw an optometrist. The Allred office is part of the Infant See program which offers free eye exams to any infant under 12 months. Making an appointment was easy. Just called the office, though note they are pretty busy and couldn't see us for a month. Day of appointment - office was easy to find, checking in was easy, and inside the office is very large and clean. Dr Allred was incredibly nice and patient with my squirmy 11 month old. He did a very thorough exam and ruled out any issues. All my worries were eased and I'll be happy to be back once baby girl needs to start getting regular exams. Highly recommend, especially for children. Even considering changing myself. read more

Worst experience ever. Wait don't get me wrong, the doctor and his assistant for eye testing were great. Problems?: 1) they've been calling me & texting me non-stop for the past 4 months or so, stating that I needed to come in for eye exam. 2.) They didn't tell me until after eye exam, & picking out my glasses, that "oh, and your going to have to pay out of your pocket because your insurance. Won't cover your bill or glasses until January 2025. (I'm wondering why they were so adamant about me going in and not once told me "it'll be out of picket!) 3.) The other assistant (for fitting, getting bill in order) was so rude and treated me like I was cheap & tight because I didn't want to pay $300.00 + out of pocket instead of waiting till Jan.). Rolled her eyes with me and didn't want to help me understand why they pushed so hard for an appointment without, not once, saying "before we get started, just so you know, you'll have to wait for a couple months for insurance to cover. Well she really put a hudge damper on their company. Perhaps she's just prejudice and definitely judgemental. The kind of people that shouldn't work customer service. I will never return to them. I'm elderly, Hispanic and have been going there over 15 years. Good by Allred Optometry...sad that one rotten apple can ruin the whole bunch. read more

I am a regular at the eye doctor so it was a big step switching from my familiar eye doctor that I've had for the past 12 years, but I'm SO glad I did. Dr. Allred is a fantastic and established eye doctor in Fullerton. He was extremely thorough and has a lot of the latest technology and up-to-date education on eye health. The office staff is friendly and the office itself is clean, organized, and filled with helpful information. You can even make an online appointment. I do not recommend Alleed eye care! I spent $800.00 on glasses I can't use! Dr. was supposedly going to send my glasses back. Then I was told they wanted to wait to see if my vision fluctuated. They never sent them back! Next visit they tell me take them and try them and call back if not ok. I did and was tested again and told they'd send them out for new lenses. I asked them to please move the bifocal up it is too low I can't see clearly without lifting them all the way up. I was told that wasn't an issue. They called and said glasses were done I went and got them by this time the Warranty was expired and I'm stuck with bifocal tinted sunglasses that are completely useless! When I text talked to the girl she was non responsive to me. They got paid, they're good! I wouldn't ever recommend Allred eye care!! BEWARE! read more

I have been coming here for years and the new location is very clean. I have to say I do not visit often, just once a year for my annual checkup, but it's always a pleasant experience. All of the doctors are great and the staff is kind. The contacts are a little expensive so I usually ask for my prescription so I can buy my contacts and glasses elsewhere. Tip! I recently had my annual visit and continue to be thoroughly impressed with Dr. Amanda Alves. I had been wearing a specific contact lens from Acuvue that was discontinued for years and she patiently tried others and is always up to date on her knowledge of what's new. She gave me some newer trial lenses to try and I'll be darned, she found something I can comfortably wear again! (I've had a dry eye problem due to fibromyalgia for years.) I love that she also suggested some drops that I had already picked up as soon as they came out. These were a win as well. She is professional and knowledgeable, but you can also tell she truly cares about her patients. She listens, remembers all the details, and always goes the extra mile to find what you need. You know I really liked this place since the first time I took my daughter when she was very young and Dr allred had seeing my daughter the very first time , then 2nd time around another male doctor seeing her for her eye exam she did amazing. Now my daughter is 2.5 years old made appointment with same doctor that saw her last year. About a week ago I get a called from the front desk stating that the doctor that seeing my daughter last yr apparently doesn't see kids.. what so then why did he see her last year did he forget that my daughter did amazing and didn't give any problems. I was really annoyed because the front desk very rude was not able to help me and tell me why..and that only Dr allred sees kids. Then on top of that you guys always work with patients schedule then after covid you guys don't see patients after 5.. so wierd!! it's a very hard decision if I want to go back. read more

I was referred to this optometry be a friend and she raved about the doctors here. However, when I called to set up an appt, I was greeted by a person name Karen. I had some questions regarding my insurance and wanted to make sure that they accept it, then I was trying to see if they could work with me regarding the appt time slot because it was going to be a 30 min drive for me. She sounded like it was a hassle to get me in. She's very rude and unprofessional. If that's the treatment I get before even stepping into this office, I wonder what's it like to actually be a patient here. Apparently, from the reviews, I wasn't the only one to be treated that way. I was really annoyed with the way I was treated. I also told my friend, we will not be coming to this office anymore. The office is located within a strip mall off of Chapman Ave next to the Post Office. Parking can be a hassle as the lot isn't very wide, but I never had to park far from the office when visiting in the past. My previous review remains the same as I did leave because of the information regarding eye care seemed too gimmicky for my taste. I went here for years to see Dr. Rice and ended up leaving shortly after his retirement. In regards to the mailing list, I have updated my review based on the timeliness in which Dr. Allred himself sought out to find a resolution to the error. Despite requesting numerous times to his front desk staff, my name had not been removed from their list. I do applaud Dr. Allred in acting swiftly to assist me, but it is unfortunate I had to resort to a one-star review in order to get this resolved. If this is your optometrist or you are considering this particular office, it is clean and Dr. Allred was always friendly. I am thrilled that I finally found a good eye doctor with fair prices. I am actually in year 3 going here. They truly maximize my insurance dollars. They are super laid back and friendly. Typically, most offices step heavy on the frame prices and then offer a "discount." The prices for the frames here are already reasonable but they do offer a 20% discount. I paid a total of $62 for Ralph Lauren frames and lens. That was my portion after insurance. Eye appointments are important not only for vision as they can detect many other health related issues simply from eye examinations. I never knew this until I heard a story of a man sent to the hospital by his eye doctor. They found an artery nearly blocked; so his eye doctor caught something. I'm really sad to have to update this review. Dr. Allred is a terrific optometrist and used to have a spot on facility, but things have really gone down hill quickly. I have been informed that he is doing some teaching now, which is why he is rarely in the office anymore. I attribute most of the issues to his absence because prior, he really ran a remarkable ship. That being said, I won't return to this office ever again. There have been major changes in staff and the once cheery, super upbeat, and overly polite folks are long gone. While I was waiting to correct an issue I had with my glasses, I had to listen to a conversation happening amongst staff regarding IN DEPTH personal female issues. I could describe but it makes my stomach queazy to even think about it...IT WAS GRAPHIC. This conversation went on a solid 10-15 min straight and made me very uncomfortable. It was telling however, because the staff used to have everything so on point with every customers information (I used to feel like they knew my name, dog's name and the street I grew up on! lol) , and now they can't keep anything straight...probably because they are having multiple personal conversations on Dr. Allred's dime. There is a real disorganization/lack of communication happening, which led me to be advised to purchase a $340 pair of glasses that I didn't need, because my current glasses already had the same prescriptions (but the sales girl apparently didn't read that and insisted I needed new glasses this year). They did correct the issue and refund me after MUCH confusion/time/energy... I had to complete another exam, then speak with a sales girl, then the manager who was visibly PISSED at having to refund me and told me that normally ALL SALES ARE FINAL WITH ANY FRAMES. Hear that? So if you think you like a set of frames but when they come in they aren't what you remembered, you're out of luck and $350. I've never experienced this policy in an optometrist office in my life and have been a glasses wearer for 20 years. All in all, sad to see another independent business that once was remarkable, hit the skids. read more

Having had some not so good experiences at other places, I was so happy to find him when I did. I have gotten glasses, contacts, and polarized sunglasses at this office, and they have always been exactly what I was looking for. Dr. Allred is a very pleasant person, and I enjoy chatting with him on our annual visits. He has given me an honest opinion about my vision and options that I have considered, and has taken his time discussing them. Tip: They do this scan that is a map of your eyes to check your eye health. The cost is very reasonable. Only $29. I went to another place where the same scan cost $89. You should do it.
