Nearly 28 years ago, Dr. Allyson Gonzalez helped save my family. In August 1998, she delivered my son Bryan by emergency C-section at UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center. He was born weighing only 1 pound, 13 ounces and spent three months in the NICU. It was one of the most emotional and uncertain times of my life, and I will always remember Dr. Gonzalez's calm, compassionate care and professionalism. Today, that tiny baby has grown into a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), helping patients and making a difference every day. As a mother, there are no words to fully express my gratitude for the role Dr. Gonzalez played in giving my son a chance at life. I started seeing Dr. G sometime around 2004, maybe earlier, I can't remember, and I was with her for nearly 20 years. She brought my son into this world, staying calm and keeping me grounded as his delivery was a bit complicated; she helped me through miscarriages, and other difficult moments. She was my rock. And then sometime around 2021, it seemed like things got off-kilter, and her quality of care and attention seemed to wane. I switched insurance around the same time, to one that her office didn't accept, and because I was also not feeling right about things, I switched doctors. I've been with another doctor for the past several years now, and all the while I've been missing Dr. G. I miss her realness and the connection I had with her. This other doctor is "a good doctor", but she is no Dr. G when it comes to heart and soul. I don't know if Allyson is still practicing (I haven't had luck making contact), or if she'll ever read this, but if you're out there somewhere Dr. G., know there are patients who still love and respect you and have loads of gratitude for all you did for them! read more

I had nothing but a great experience thus far. There was a delay in getting a response when trying to make an appointment but the receptionist called and had been out sick, completely understandable. Dr González was nice professional and personable. I was referred to her. She explained what test she was going to run and why. I have been a patient of Dr Gonzalez since 2014 (first at her location at Women's medical group and followed her since). I reached out in January to schedule my annual visit -- no response to voice messages or texts left, no one picks up the phone during office hours & her website is not operating. And her social media has not been active in almost a year. My insurance company attempted to contact her/ the office as well with no response. She also is now no longer listed with my insurance. So, two stars because I had a great experience with her but obviously she's either retired or left this location and made no attempts to contact patients to at least let them know/be able to easily obtain their records from her. Dr. Gonzalez was my OB/GYN for more than two decades. She is a wonderful person and a wonderful doctor. Unfortunately, she's no longer around. I did receive a text to this effect when I called to make an appointment for the new year ago. Someone (not Allison Marie the receptionist) gave me a link I could use to get my medical records. Unfortunately, I I went into a denial/procrastination phase and didn't try to use the link until many months later. It didn't work, and I am now unable to get my medical records. I just scheduled an appointment with the OB/GYN I used before Dr. Gonzalez, the physician who actually referred me to Dr. Gonzalez! Her name is Dr. Allyson Leong. I haven't been to see her in many years, of course, but I'm going to give her another try. She's located in Santa Monica, phone number 310-264-1777 for those of you who are desperately searching for another OB/GYN. I can't be sure, of course, but I'm going to assume that Dr Leong will also give me excellent care. Although there was something really special about Dr. Gonzalez. She gave me excellent care (including three cesareans and an urgent blood loss correction). She also spent a lot of time talking to me about my life and trying to help me with my personal health problems. And she gave off wonderful healing vibrations. She placed me on a medication that was not needed, did not educate me on the side effects that now have me dealing with being pre-diabetic & this time last year was not pre-diabetic. So I finally heard back from Dr. Gonzalez after 9 weeks since my last appointment and decided to share the results of my blood tests over the phone instead of calling me into her office. Dr. Gonzalez apologized for the length of time it took to return my calls but didn't give any explanation as to why aside from, "you just slipped through the crack." I cannot believe this woman and her team. I genuinely hope that nobody else has to go through the same traumatic experience I did. read more

Had a wonderful first time visit with Dr. Gonzalez. I have been meaning to find a primary OBGYN for some time, and I am so happy I found her. Dr. Gonzalez and the staff were very friendly, and they were able to see me right on time! Dr. Gonzalez was incredibly knowledgeable, attentive, and caring. The office only takes cash or check, which the office manager kindly reminds you many times before your first appointment. In my experience, this is fairly common for private practices. Rudest, most abrasive staff. When I first got to LA, I was told to go to this doctor from a primary care doctor named Romana Haider - who also was terrible. First off, this address listed on Yelp isn't her current address from what I remember. She is now on Wilshire. Let me cut to the chase here, I don't remember much about my one visit to this office, because it was well over a year ago. All I do remember is that I didn't want to be a regular patient here for whatever reason. However, today, out of the blue, I get a call from a very abrasive and rude woman demanding I pay her upwards of $300 for an overdue balance from my visit in August of last year. Mind you, it's been over a year and a half so I have no idea what's going on. She has no patience for my questions, and is telling me she is sending my balance to a debt collector. This is the first call, and the first I ever heard, of this overdue balance. I have insurance, and I figured the insurance would cover the pap smear. I asked if I could be sent the bill and I will talk with my insurance company on the issue. She said no. Flat out. She said it's too late for that and either I pay right now over the phone, or it is going to a collections company. Excuse me? This is the first you have ever tried to reach me, although you claim to have sent me mail since - that I never received not even one letter or notice. Truly, I was blown away and almost in tears on how abrupt and rude this woman was on the phone. She ended the conversation with saying "Um, ok whatever" and proceded to hang up on me. I tried to call back, but no one is answering. There are so many great doctors out there, with great staff, it's really unfortunate places like this are able to practice legally. My recommendation is Julie Ma in Pacific Palisades. She is a primary care and can preform pap smears, has no issue with billing my insurance, and is a breeze to deal with. Fantastic! I am a newbie in LA and was very nervous about picking the wrong person to have my check up with. Having just moved over from the UK in December, this whole procedure was quite different to me. I spent a good hour reading up about different gynecologists in the SM are. Preferably I wanted one with at least 4 stars, 5 would be better. I don't understand why Dr. Gonzalez only has a 3.5-star rating at the moment. I hope this changes, as she truly was fantastic. I was very nervous upon arrival, especially when the nurse told me I had to take ALL my clothes off (we don't do that for a pill check up in the UK, they just check your weight, blood pressure and pulse). After a short wait, Dr. Gonzalez came in, she was friendly, tried to make me as comfortable as possible and did her job as quickly as she could. The pap smear exam is never nice, but I don't think anyone one else could have done it any better. I have had some pretty bad experiences with UK gynecologists to compare to. Before booking my appointment, my research led me to read a few strange stories about the unhelpful receptionist staff at the Woman's Medical Group. For example, not being able to attend if you're wearing perfume, copying patients credit card details to keep forever and generally being rude and snippy. The perfume rule is true, although a bit of strange request, this wasn't hard to adhere to. The staff however, were more than cordial to me. I'd even say they were friendly, and very helpful when it came to all the insurance matters as I am still getting to grips with that. I would like to mention, if you'd like to avoid having to pick up your birth control prescription every month, try and ask if the prescription script can be phrased to state "can pick up 3 (or multiple) prescriptions at one time." Something similar to that anyway. I didn't do this and only have 1 months supply on me. I was told at Walgreens my prescription was phrased in a way that sounds like I am only allowed 1 months supply at a time. Overall, it was a very successful appointment and I won't hesitate to book again with Dr. Gonzalez again for my next appointment. I strongly recommend Dr. Gonzalez to anyone looking for a gynecologist. read more

My first gynecological visit ever was with Allyson Gonzalez. It was truly horrible. I am only sorry that I waited 15 years to write a candid review. Without getting into all the details, I will leave it at this: the exam was borderline violent and remarkably painful. I kept asking her to stop, yet she continued. Her lack of sensitivity or concern for me as a first-time patient was truly alarming. I never set foot in her office again. Since then, I have found myself a phenomenal gynecologist who is gentle, caring, and patient. I am happy to share his contact info with anyone who may be interested. The office staff was rude and unhelpful. They scheduled me for a service the doc couldn't provide at the time, costing me a $25 office co-pay. I asked if I had to pay another $25 next time since I had to come back. The receptionist rudely said, "You still got to see the doctor, right?" I pointed out I wouldn't have come in had I known the doc couldn't do the work at the time. The receptionist said only, "You still have to pay," ending the conversation. Two words....Freaking AWESOME! I love Dr. Gonzales. I tend to be excessively meticulous when it comes to choosing a physician/Gyno and have not been able to settle with one until now. After all, it is my body :) Not a good thing because then I'm not able to track my records but I'm healthy so all good for now :) Back to Dr. Gonzales. She's great at fitting me in even if her schedule is chaotic, I call in prescriptions and she has no hesitation in having her staff put in the request ASAP. Her personality is amazing, very hip, down to earth, kind and attentive. Gives you thorough explanations and advice, never rushes. The staff as well, very friendly. I recommend her ALL THE TIME. An absolute joke. Dr. Gonzalez was great but the office is a dump and the best of all is whilst I did my due-diligence to find a doctor covered by my network that doctor did not offer me the same effort when it came to my lab work. Instead she sent my blood work to a laboratory not covered by Anthem Blue Cross and instead has stuck me with a $400 bill. Will never go here again and encourage everyone to run fast. read more

I don't usually write reviews unless it is really necessary. In this case it is, seeing the negative reviews on Dr. Gonzales is really surprising and makes me consider the source. I have been her patient for 13 years, she delivered both of my children and has always been nothing but caring. I am one who still gets really nervous every time I have my check-up and she has always been very gentle and makes sure I am comfortable at all time. Not sure where the "borderline violent" comment comes from when Dr. Gonzales is nothing but gentle and really cares about her patients. I always recommend her to my friends and my family. read more

Dr. Gonzalez is a horrible doctor. She misdiagnosed me when I came in telling her what was wrong, but she didn't believe me. I turned out to be right. In the mean time she diagnosed me with polycystic ovary syndrome, and ran a bunch of unnecessary tests without telling me. I got the bill later. I talked to her about it and she kept calling me "hun," and telling me that there isn't anything she can do about it. I told her she could pay for the unnecessary tests. She didn't seem to like that idea. She said NO. I am stuck with the bill and test results that avail me nothing because they don't relate to anything. I knew what was going on all along. I wasn't going to write anything about this, but I think other people should know what happened to me. I'm sure she can do a pap smear and all of that. But if something is wrong, I just don't have faith that she really knows what she is doing. Also, if I was wrong and caused someone extra costs and grief I would apologize and make things right. She's not willing to take responsibility for her mistakes or even act like she cares about the trouble she caused. Anyway, that's my experience. I hope it helps. P.S Before this I was a patient of Valerie Kelly's for about five years. She's very nice, but was out of town at the time. (Also, she's a nurse practitioner, but in my opinion WAY WAY better than Dr. Gonzalez). I've had trouble with the people who work at the office too. I've been going to Dr. Gonzolez for about five years and always had nothing but good experiences. I mean, I don't enjoy going to doctors but she made the visits as best as possible. Dr.Gonzolez is warm, friendly, extremely knowledgable and an overall great doctor. She delivered my perfect baby boy last year and throughout my pregnancy always listened to me- my concerns and apprehensions. She helped my baby come out when he was ready after 36 hours of labor and didn't try to pressure me into inducing labor or C-section or other things I wasn't comfortable with. I was so shocked to read some negative reviews about such a great doctor. I totally disagree. My exams during my 3rd trimester were routine though uncomfortable - Hello? You have a fully cooked baby about to come out of your vagina - a little discomfort and cramping is normal. How do you expect to get through labor and delivery if you can't handle a pelvic exam? Weird. I've also had only nice interactions with the staff there. read more

I should have believed all the previous yelp reviewers who warned of the financial shenanigans (I read elsewhere about their billing your credit card without your knowing for improper fees) at this place. Without my authorization, they apparently made a charge to my credit card without telling me. My insurance pays 100% of the well woman exam, but the office managed to bill with the incorrect codes, says my insurer. Dr. Gonzalez was very nice, but I wasn't impressed with her medical exam. Also, despite my leaving numerous messages to get my lab results, as others have said, they've never returned my call. read more

I have had horrible experiences seeing Dr. Gonzalez during my pregnancy, and I recently switched to a different Dr. during my third trimester. I would like to forget the whole thing, but I feel that other women should be warned. My top complaint is that she started giving horribly painful and long pelvic "exams" during my third trimester (pushing down on my belly, pushing, pulling and rubbing on my cervix, etc). When I complained about cramping and bleeding for days after each "exam", she said that was normal. Now having switched doctors, I realize that third trimester pelvic exams can be quick and painless - it only takes a few seconds for the doctor to feel if you are dilated. Dr. Gonzalez was inappropriately trying to stimulate my cervix and accelerate labor without explaining what she was doing and without asking permission (I think that the last time I saw her she was actually trying to "sweep my membrane" which is considered a procedure, not an exam). I see this as a serious breach of trust and power. After a few exams like this I told her I wanted to refuse pelvic exams all together, after reading in several reputable sources (e.g. Mayo Clinic studies) that these really aren't necessary at all during the third trimester. She was extremely pushy about continuing to do them, and practically ordered me onto the table. Unfortunately I gave in, which I regret, but it can be hard to say no to your doctor. When it hurt so much I told her to stop and she did not, I started yelling and sat up on the table. She acted like everything was normal. Sorry if this is TMI, but I really think other women should know what she can be like, even if she seems nice at first. My other main complaint is that she started trying to convince me that I should plan on getting induced into labor before I was even 37 weeks - how would she know at that point if I was going to need to be induced? She became more and more insistent on this point as I approached 40 weeks, and finally she told me that she was going on vacation shortly after my due date, and we would have to induce labor. I refused, and she told me that I would then have to rely on whoever was on call at the hospital to deliver my baby. She didn't have a replacement doctor that would actually see me in an office during my final weeks, and she waited until I was almost 39 weeks to tell me she was leaving! There were a number of other problems I had with the office (I agree with all the negative reviews posted about issues with billing and cleanliness in the office, bathroom and exam rooms), and I had various other disagreements with her, but the two above are the most serious ones I thought people should know about. Up until these problems during my third trimester, I thought she was OK - I never really loved her as a doctor, but I had trouble finding a female OB in Santa Monica when I moved here, so I stuck with her longer than I should have. She seemed fairly reasonable and supportive of my decisions until things started getting down to the wire. Thank goodness I have now left her practice, and I won't have to deal with this kind of behavior in the delivery room. I am now seeing a fantastic male OB. Ladies, if you are willing to see a male, there are great options in the area! I know the female OBs here are in high demand and it can be hard to get in. Also, remember that it is never too late to switch to a new doctor (even in week 38, or later!) - I thought I was trapped with her since I was so far along, but a friend helped me find a new doctor that would take me. Your doctor works for you - if they are misleading you, not informing you, and pushing you to do something you don't want, take your business elsewhere. read more

I have been a patient with Dr. Gonzalez for over 16 years. I had been complaining to a previous doctor about numbness on my face and not menstruating for 2 years. He said it was just something that happens. It was Dr. Gonzalez who discovered, because of her thoroughness, that I was producing too much prolactin, which usually indicates there's a growth (tumor) in the brain. She had an MRI done immediately and prescribed the appropriate medication to bring me down to normal levels. She has always been caring, involved, thorough...absolutely brilliant! The staff has always been friendly as well. If you're looking for an OB-GYN that won't treat you like another number and actually follow through with you, then look no further than Dr. Gonzalez. Dr. Gonzalez is great. She recently delievered my baby and I couldn't be more happy with her care. She listens, she takes her time, and I get the feeling that she really likes her job. I switched to her in almost my 6th month of pregnancy because I wanted a doctor who supported natural childbirth and I definitely found that with Dr. Gonzalez. She was recommended to me by a well known doula in LA as the best doctor in Santa Monica for natural childbirth in a hospital. I think that's absolutely the case and I recommend her without hesitation. I consulted Dr. Gonzalez briefly for a concern that only she, out of many physicians, was able to diagnose as unrelated to gynecological issues. A slight professional overlap is the only reason I did not continue to see her as my doctor. One thing everyone should know about her: besides being supremely intelligent, good at her specialty, and affable, she is one of very few physicians who treats her patients as whole human beings. I know for a fact that she inquires about the psychological, personal, and social lives of the women who see her, making appropriate suggestions and referrals. She seems to be acutely aware that they are not women divided into segments of physical and emotional experience, but are the totality of these factors. Once I was speaking to a man who comes to see me and mentioned he might like to take more getaways with his wife. He replied that her gynecologist had suggested the same thing. "Is she Dr. Gonzalez," I asked. "How did you know that?" he said. I recommend her to anyone. read more

Dr. Gonzalez is amazing--I became her patient four years ago when my original ob/gyn in the area dropped my insurance company and left me scrambling. Everyone at the Women's Medical Group in Santa Monica is so kind and open and flexible. Dr. Gonzalez was with me every step of the way through my second pregnancy, and not only supported my decision to have a VBAC, but encouraged me and gave me tips to stay healthy throughout. Now, I'm facing a new set of challenges as I undergo chemotherapy for breast cancer, and Dr. Gonzalez is still there for me--she called today to find out how my appointment with my oncologist went and just to let me know that she cares. Dr. Gonzalez is the best! She delivered our second child and we had an amazing experience working with her. She was supportive of our desire to have a natural childbirth and she took all the time necessary to answer questions. Dr. G is also very down-to-earth and comfortable to talk to. She is one of the best doctors I have seen. Unlike the OB/GYN I had with my first child, I never felt like Dr. G or her office were a factory and that I was just another chart. I rarely post on any websites, but when I stumbled upon these negative reviews I had to say something. Dr. Gonzalez delivered both of my children, who are now 5 and 2 years old. We have since moved away from Santa Monica and is now living on the East Coast. Every time I go to my new OBGYN I lament the fact that I can no longer see Dr. Gonzalez. Dr. Gonzalez is an amazing doctor. Not only is she intelligent and on point with her diagnosis, her demeanor and attitude really put me at ease during my pregnancies and my deliveries. I had a very difficult labor and delivery with my first child, but Dr. Gonzalez's calm and confident demeanor gave me the strength to deliver my baby despite my exhaustion and nerves. My second child was easier, but carrying a child while running after a 2-year-old toddler with very little help took a toll on me emotionally. Dr. Gonzalez was there to listen to me spout my frustrations, she took my emotions seriously when others would have just said "oh it is just the baby hormones talking." Yes, her front office has always been a little rough around the edges, but if you read and understand their billing process carefully when you first do your paperwork, you will be fine. First off, this isn't a review of her staff or billing issues, neither of which have affected me negatively. This is a review of Dr. Gonzalez. I was referred to Dr. G by a friend of mine. I was pregnant (a total oopsie) and my Gyno wasn't an OB. I asked a colleague who had such good things to say about her OB when she was going through her pregnancy and I trusted her referral. I was BLOWN away by her expert knowledge, easy approach and most of all the time she committed to our appointments. I'm used to a doctor giving me, at most, 10 minutes of their time, prescribing something unnecessary and sending me on my way. NOT Dr. Gonzalez. She makes me feel as if I'm her only patient of the day and she must schedule her appointments with timing in mind because I've never waited more than 10 minutes. She gives me a thorough examination and we talk about any concerns I may have. I'm thankful to be rather healthy so I don't need a lot of follow-up or medications but I have found that when I do, she gives me samples and manufacturer coupons to help with the out-of-pocket costs. Recently, I've had to call her with questions, and she ALWAYS calls me back the same day and never seems rushed to end the call. She's also the only doctor to ask me about my life, kids, husband, work, etc. which may seem irrelevant but weighs heavily on my overall health. She's patient, knowledgeable, kind and compassionate. When I battled through post-partum depression after both of my kids, she was the one who empathized with me and helped me through a lot of the emotions. For that, I love her. Let's not forget, however, she's human and because of that she doesn't have ALL of the answers but she's willing to find them. I have nothing bad to say about her because quite frankly, my experience with her has been outstanding. read more

Dr. Gonzalez is an amazing doctor who was by my side throughout my entire pregnancy with TWINS! She is caring, knowledgeable, funny, professional and honest. I can't say enough wonderful things about her! If you are looking for an OB in Santa Monica and are pregnant with multiples, Dr. G is the doctor for you! Jackie Snow (who I also highly recommend) at the Women's Medical group did my yearly exams for 6 years and put me on prenatal vitamins when I was ready to get pregnant. The day after I thought I was pregnant, I called the office and they scheduled an ultrasound for me right away. This was great since I was eager to find out the status! To my surprise, not only was I pregnant but I was having TWINS - WOAH!! Jackie immediately told me I have several options for OB's in SM. She never once tried to sell me on going to Dr. G (even though she is in the same office). I decided to have Dr. G by my OB. She has twins of her own so she knows how serious this type of pregnancy can be. She helped me relax, stay positive and told me to visual the tree of life for the next 6 weeks. She listened to my fears and concerns and told me my twins would be okay! I left her office thinking, what a wonderful experience I just had! I wasn't her patient but she treated me like I was for the past 10 years. From that point on, I saw her once a week for 9 months! My husband came to every appointment with me. She took a great deal of interest in both mine and my husband's life. She spent a lot of time talking to us. Asking how both of us were doing, how work was going and if we had certain things prepared for the birth of our twins. Dr. G took me and the twins to 38 weeks! My water broke at 3am, 1 day before my scheduled c-section at SM hospital. I called the Women's Medical Group at 3a and the operator connected me to Dr. G in 1 minute. Dr. G calmed me down, told me she would call the hospital and would see me soon. I felt GREAT and was READY for my twins. I plan on staying with Dr. G. I have recommend her to friends and my mom has already signed up to be her patient. Side note: the front desk staff is AMAZING and VERY HELPFUL with state disability paperwork. Paperwork can be a real pain and the state is impossible to deal with. Being pregnant (with TWINS) can be stressful and you want the right doctor's team on your side. Dr. Gonzales is the best! Dr. Gonazalez delivered my son 6 years ago. I haven't seen her since my last postpartum checkup because my employer changed insurance companies and Dr. G. is no longer in-network on my new plan. I just can't afford to go out-of-network. I have been bouncing around with other OB/GYN's since, and have found no one who compares with Dr. G and her level of detail, attention, and expertise. She was very thorough during checkups, has a good sense of humor and great attitude, discussed options when we needed to make decisions, was great about including my husband in the conversation, took the time to explain things to me, and helped me resolve problems with a range of options. I really wanted to do a natural birth (no drugs, etc.) but when my labor was not progressing, she recommended inducing with pitocin. Because she had been so respectful and supportive of my birth plan, I trusted her recommendation because it was medically needed. Even in the turmoil and chaos (for me), she told me that if she didn't induce, my chances of needing a C-section would increase -- I thought that was very proactive of her to explain to me why she was making this recommendation. She's very reasonable and balanced, and I trusted her completely because she was so communicative and respectful from the first day I saw her. After the pitocin, she helped me make it through labor with no epidural, though I know that had I wanted it, she would have administered. I would highly recommend her to anyone. I found her office staff (Rosie) to be very pleasant as well. read more

Dr. Gonzalez was by my side as I went through a high risk pregnancy in 2009. I am now on the other side of things with a daughter who is thriving + almost 6-year old. She cared about me "360" as a person, noting "psychosocial issues" as well as "medical issues" + their inter-relation. read more

Dr. Gonzalez is a great doctor. I went to her for my yearly check ups for some time, and last year she delivered my daughter at St. Johns. Throughout the whole pregnancy process she was fantastic - answered all my questions (even when I called in about extra questions : /!), gave me confidence and prepared me well for delivery. She is a warm and caring person and a doctor you can really trust for their expertise and as a person. read more
