Excellent! I had my first experience today based on Yelp reviews. I had a 30 minute facial, spa pedicure and express manicure. All three services were great. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful and the ambiance is so relaxing. The spa was spotless. My services were first rate, my skin is glowing and my nails look fantastic. This was my first trip to a spa since I ran the Chicago marathon last month and my feet are now back to normal! Ask for Laura for skin and Vernita for nails, you will not be disappointed! I went there for a facial and I had a very good experience overall. The lady asked me what I wanted to get from the facial and I told her what were my skin issues. Since I don't know anything about the type of services, she assisted me in the best manner asking me questions and she tried to find out what I needed. The staff is great and so are the massages. This place is so lovely and has a very "zen" feel to it. Today was my 1st visit to this spa. The 2 young ladies in the front were nice and very quick checking me and getting my stuff put away. I got the Hot Stone pedicure by Maryan. Boy was it fantastic! My one issue is this place is not a nail place. Their nail color selection is small and for some reason those polish take FOREVER to dry. I sat under a fan for 20 minuets and left wearing flip flops, and when I finally put shoes on 2hrs later they still smudged. I came here today for one of the personal day spas and I had an amazing time. The place was clean, the shower room was crazy awesome (yes, heated floors), and the waiting room was very relaxing and soothing. Each person who worked on me took their time and was very nice. They frequently offered water or tea and I was addicted to their ginger tea (was having a crazy hangover so I drank the tea like a whale and kept asking for more). After each service I was asked to go to the waiting room to wait for the next person who will be working on me. Each time the wait was no more than 10 minutes. Everything flowed very well. A group of my friends and I celebrated my 40th birthday here. They arranged to have a yoga teacher come in to teach us a private class, breakfast and then we all have 2 or 3 services done. The body scrub was devine and I love that the nail products they use are all environmentally safe. The saunas they have are fantastic! One snafu with the billing at check out but management corrected it after I brought it to their attention. If you have a private party here on a Saturday AM bring in your own food as the nearby restaurants are not open and very few deliver. The restaurants in the building are just OK. read more

I have been going to Allyu Spa for facials, a little over 3 years. It's the best place to get a facial, if you decide to go, request Elizabeth. She is amazing. She isn't trying to sell you products when you go in, she really looks at your skin, tells you what she sees and gives you advice. For my girlfriend's birthday, I bought the couples spa package and I must say, it lived up to all of our expectations. The staff was very helpful, guiding us through our day and making us comfortable. We had a private spa, followed by a couples massage and a pedicure. I'm sad to see that Allyu has not been accommodating of cancelations and pregnancy issues. I have had none of those issues and have loved every experience there. The couples mini-retreat is just perfect. The massage therapists always listen to my preferences and concerns, the pedicurists are friendly but unobtrusive, the space is lovely, and I have no problem with keeping my things in a tote to be carried from service to service by the staff! I am unintimidated by the staff, and feel like they always strive to make sure I am having a comfortable and relaxing experience. I plan on going back. As often as I can afford. read more

I admittedly have not been to any other spa in Chicago, but I don't feel like I need to after coming here. It is so unbelievably peaceful. Everything from the smells to the sounds, you'd have no idea that just outside the door the lobby of the whole gigantic building is under construction. A few months ago I had the infrared sauna therapy at the recommendation of my physician for stress. That was meh, but it's not Allyu's fault, I think that's just not the therapy for me. The sauna area is clean and attractive though. Then recently I had a one-hour massage and it was just incredible and everyone should go get one right now. I felt so relaxed after, which was the goal. There was a great deal at Groupon for Allyu ($45 for waxing and an express manicure - that's less than I usually pay for waxing alone, so come on! I had to do it!), and so I broke my usual loyalty to Sinead in Wrigleyville and went for it. Best. Decision. Ever. I did the Brazilian (I like my coffee hot and my salon services scandalous). I've been getting my lady bits waxed for a few years now at a few different salons, and this was definitely the most painless. My waxer (Elizabeth? Pretty sure it was Elizabeth) said it was an oatmeal wax, but whatever it was, it was awesome. So long-distance high five Elizabeth, because you rock! I highly recommend getting waxed at Allyu. The pedicure was pretty much the best ever too. Granted it was just a simple express pedicure, but the girl who did it was really good and my polish has lasted a really long time (it's been two weeks and nary a chip!). So, I would say Allyu gets two thumbs up. read more

I know it is long, but it will be worth your while if you are looking for a good spa. My husband surprised me last month on my birthday, and brought me to this spa. The front desk staff was HORRIBLY RUDE (Sara was the front desk employee at the time), and not only did the front desk staff did not know how to explain what this company offers, but they could not even put a smile on their face and pretend. We were going to choose the massage services and pedicures. Sarah did inform us, that if we did not cancel 5-10 mins before the appointment that we would be charged for 50% of the service. After leaving due to our appointment being 5 hours later, we called 5 minutes after we walked out to change from a PEDICURE and MASSAGE, to a FACIAL and MASSAGE. Sara then again proceeds to be rude over the phone, and seemed irritated my husband and I wanted to switch our services to something MORE EXPENSIVE. She did say that this would be the last adjustment I could make to what we had scheduled. She did not say you were booked, she just said we couldn't make any more adjustments. The massage was wonderful, but the facial was mediocre. It felt like a second massage, which is what I did not want. My pours were not clean, and barely any extraction work done. Overall, from the judgment we received from the staff as well as the mediocre facial and HORRIBLY RUDE customer service, and spending $400 to be treated so negatively, we will never be returning. It is a great disappointment that we could not find a spa to return continuously, and I wish he would've waited, and didn't buy a gift card at this place for we could have spent my birthday at a place that would appreciate us, and create good memories for us. I am writing this, because I have informed the owner of the spa about my experience, and not only that she replied after almost a week, but my disappointment was shrugged as if I was not important as a customer. If you really want to have fun and enjoy yourself, go to a professional spa, make a good research. Location isn't everything, and not worth the money you work hard for. read more

I am from San Francisco, but even I found this place to be too "hippie." The smells, the colors, the products...not what I expected from a highly-rated spa. I went there with my fiancé as an anniversary treat and we were pretty "meh" about the whole thing. We started in the sauna area (that we had to book and pay for as a service, it's not included) and where you sit is essentially a board on top of other boards. It was moving around and felt really unstable and cheap. Not like other saunas I have used before. The facial was blah. The massage was blah. They also have no locker rooms, so you undress and put your clothes in a raggedy tote bag that you have to carry around with you like a pauper. You also have to book showers after your services if you want to get yourself together after your services, which I hated. I was slathered in all kinds of oils and I had to just get dressed, without the option to get myself together before I left. They also take your spa robe after your last service without telling you they're doing so. If you're looking for a nice spa experience with modern amenities, I'd look elsewhere. read more

HORRIBLE, AWFUL, HEARTLESS management & policies! My friend booked a prenatal massage for her and I a week in advance. The morning of our appt I had to be admitted to the hospital due to a complication with my pregnancy. My friend kept her appt and explained to them my situation. THEY REFUSED TO OVERLOOK THEIR 6hr cancellation policy and charged me 50% of the massage. EVEN AFTER I OFFERED TO BRING IN MY HOSPITAL ADMISSION PAPERWORK proving I PHYSICALLY was not able to keep the appt. Had I known I was going to the hospital obviously I would've cancelled in advance, however, it was a last minute emergency that came up 2 hrs before the appt. I spoke with TAMARA the manager and she would absolutely not refund the fee or even give me a credit for a future appt. This spa must be incredibly hard up for money, and as I see from another recent post, have NO respect for pregnant women. I seriously cannot believe they would rather stick to their cancellation policy rather than give someone IN THE HOSPITAL FOR A UNPLANNED EMERGENCY a break. We will NEVER go here again! read more

Several months later, I am now a regular here for deep tissue massages. Allyu has really become my escape from the city. I will come 30 minutes prior to my schedule just to relax and unwind in the meditation area. Even when you just walk in, the smell of Nag Champa incense takes you away. It's almost like you've been transported to Bali or Indonesia. This is the perfect place to sit down, close your eyes and tune out the world. I try to get in and see Amado every other month. Have you ever received a facial and left with a dirty face. Nope. Me either, but thanks to Allyu Spa my mother cannot say the same. My siblings and I treated my mother to a Pre-Mother's Day date which began with the Allyu Spa. Let me begin with the reservation. The individual who took my call was very pleasant and helpful. I didn't know what to choose for my mom. They put an aesthetician on the phone to help me make a more informed choice. Thank you. What they should also tell you is their location in relation to the street address and where to park. I assumed it was a walk up. It wasn't. Moving on... The place smelled fabulous. The receptionist and the person who came to get my mom were very pleasant. My mom also commented that the aesthetician who provided her facial was very nice and she did a great job waxing her brows. The problem: When we picked up my mom I thought... Her skin isn't glowing. Then we arrived for lunch at the Signature Room(great lighting). I looked at my moms usually radiant face and saw makeup on her face. Yes... Makeup... After a facial. I couldn't believe it... Neither could my mom. She first tried to casually wipe it off. I soon realized that wasn't going to work and sent her to the bathroom with my sister. She had to wash. her. face. After receiving a FACIAL. Mind blown. I was embarrassed because I selected Allyu and my mom was terribly disappointed. We should have returned to the Red Door. I contacted the spa. The manager, Elizabeth, offered to only discount the service because I was "otherwise very pleased with the service". Wait... what? Who said that? It was a facial. My mom left with a soiled face. What is there to be "otherwise very pleased" with???? I felt insulted by her response. After telling her, "The only proper solution is a full refund.", she acquiesced. My experience here was fantastic and I can't wait to return! My husband and I did the "couples mini retreat" package, which was 3 hours of bliss. It began with 40 minutes of detox and cleanse in the 40 minute infrared sauna, which was hard to withstand all 40 minutes, but when finished, felt amazing! Afterward, we showered in our own private area, to robe and head into the relaxation/meditation tent for about 10 minutes while waiting for our one hour massage to begin. The massage was heavenly, definitely one of the best I have ever had. After the massages commenced, we headed over to the nail area to get our 40 minute pedicures. The day was amazing and the staff was great! All in, including gratuities, our total was $350. We even had gifts! A $20 gift card to Bistrot Margot and some wonderful smelling incense that they burn in house. I love love love this place! read more

I had a 90 minute custom facial and received a mediocre product selling session. The aesthetician just wouldn't stop talking into my ears. The session was WAY less than 90 minutes and when I asked about this, the staff mentioned that it includes the consultation which was nothing but selling new products. So, it was my birthday and I woke up a little mopey turning a year older. My boyfriend woke me up @ 11:30 and told me we had to get ready as we were had to be somewhere by 1:30. I really wanted to sleep in, but alas, I got up and got ready ever so slowly. We got in the car and as I am driving, I ask him where we are going. He says 600 W Chicago Ave. So I figure, oh, we are having lunch @ Japonais? We park in the garage and cross the street and we go into a totally different entrance. We start walking down these stairs and I see a sign that says to the Riverwalk. I'm thinking great, it's freezing outside and he wants to walk around the Riverwalk? Really? Instead of heading outside, I look to the right and there is a SPA?! I look at him and he says, Happy Birthday! I wanted to burst out into tears. Yes, I am a sentimental sap. I had been telling him that I wanted to go for a couples massage for quite some time, but he always dismissed the idea. Upon walking into Allyu, we were greeted by the receptionist who gave us some paper work to fill out and we each also got a cup of hot relaxation tea. Totally hit the spot on a cold December afternoon. So after we fill out our forms, we get taken to a bench where we hang up our coats and take of our shoes. We are then given our spa slippers which were nice and comfy. The receptionists takes us back to the dressing area where there are two showers and a sauna. Nice! It's freezing, I'd love to sit in the sauna. Since we arrived early, they let us have the sauna area for a bit longer. Nice and hot and relaxing. Sigh. The shower area is nice. Almost like you are at home, you have everything that you could ever need. So after we clean up, we go to the tent area. It's in the middle of the spa. We both fall asleep. There was soothing music, dim lighting, a fountain in the back ground. My only complaint is, you could hear the receptionists talking and people walking back and forth. If there was a way that hey can make the relaxation area sound proof, that would be ideal. I'd fall asleep and wake up to someone walking out of a massage room or walking in. For the most part, everyone talks quietly, but you can still hear noise. Also, it's kind of weird, but the couches you sit on are stone. It's not the most comfortable thing, but they do provide pillows and cushions. It would be nice to have a deep couch you can drown into. So to the massage. My guy decided to choose the hour long hot rock couples massage. A girl massaged him and a guy name Gustave worked on me. Wow. Talk about relaxing. I love the hot rocks. Why didn't I try this sooner? The hot rocks are amazing. I apparently had a lot of knots on my lower back and thigh area so he worked on those. The hour long was just the perfect amount of time. The right amount of pressure was applied and after I felt so relaxed and good. I just wanted to nap. So after our hot rock massage, we were told to get dressed for our pedicures. I suddenly noticed, I've lost my ring. Funny as I don't recall taking it off. So everyone on staff is basically searching the place for my ring. Talk about a buzz kill. I was okay with losing my ring, even though it was my favorite. It is white gold with diamonds, antique looking. Well anyhow, one of the ladies found it in the sheets, she checked the laundry. The staff there was amazing. They actually found my ring in 15 minutes. They didn't have to look for it or they could have pretended to look for it and just say they couldn't find it. I was very thankful and able to enjoy the rest of my spa experience. Next up pedicure...I forgot the name of the girl that did mine, but she was great. She was Asian and she took her time. My boyfriend and I got champagne and she also gave me another cup of that amazing relaxation tea. She cut down my cuticles and also got all the dead skin off of the bottom of my feet. So much better than going to those cheap places, she totally took her time and I've never had such a great pedicure. She exfoliated my feet and put this pumpkin stuff on it to soften it. My boyfriend even got one. All in all, my experience @ Allyu was wonderful. My boyfriend and the staff truly made my birthday special. I would have given it 4.5 stars, but it isn't an option. Like I said, my only complaint is the relaxation area and the noise traveling. The massage, sauna, pedicure, all prefect! We even got a $20 gift card from them to Japonais and a 10% coupon for our next visit and incense. After the spa, we had my birthday dinner @ Japonais. How convenient is that? I have visited allyu spa twice over the past year due to the rave reviews online, and they have consistently provided disappointing services. Over the summer I booked a signature facial which was just a run of the mill massage. She tried to perform extractions, but her hands kept slipping which really prevented me from having a relaxing experience for the remainder of the session. I decided to give this place another try a few months later, hoping to be paired with a different skincare specialist. However, their online scheduling system is a disaster. I requested an appointment noting I'd be available all day in the comments. They emailed me saying there were no appointments available the monday I requested, and that I would be put on the waiting list. I replied that I'd be available on additional days and would like to be put on the waiting list. No response from allyu, about the availability for the other appointments. I received a email from allyu a few days later saying they had a cancellation and offered me an appointment on the Monday I originally requested. I replied that I accepted the appointment. Again, no response from allyu. I showed up on Monday only to learn they didn't schedule me for the appointment. The concierge said they gave away the appointment to someone else, and offered to reschedule me for a different day. I had already wasted my day off work and money for the commute so had no desire to return on a different day. I was further annoyed when I was told they gave away the appointment because I took too long to respond to the email, but I responded within the hour it was sent. Their excuse also meant they had seen my email, but they chose to not respond to my confirmation even when they knew they had scheduled someone else. All in all, here lies the Worst customer service for Chicago spas. read more

I think that Allyu is the best spa in Chicago. The atmosphere is so peaceful and a true escape. I have had a facial and 60 minute massage from here, both services were fantastic. What I really love about this place is that all of the massage therapists have individual styles, which cater to your particular body needs. There is also an excellent skin care line. The staff is also such a delight and it's so refreshing to be surrounded by people who truly love their job and want to help you.
