A Five stars rating in my mind needs a few ingredients. 1) space: severe floors, and rooftop seating with a unique view. Steep stairs but worth the climb up. outside seating available. Bar seating if you just want drinks. summertime sunsets or fall/early winter gas burner warmth, the rooftop is a great option. 2) service: the hostess was accommodating and asked us if we would like to wait at the bar till seats opened up at the rooftop and the kept us updated. One word: expensive. You can expect to drop about $50 per person for a simple Mexican cuisine you can pay less than $20 elsewhere. But like everyone said, you're paying for the view. I have been here for dinner twice and have been to the bar, B61, downstairs multiple times (awesome lemonades btw). Most recent trip was for a birthday party for roughly 20 people. Started dinner as soon as they opened and the place filled up quick! There's nothing to say about the service but the food was just mediocre. Started off with free chips and salsa and ordered the guacamole ($12). Very expensive guac considering the portion of it. I had the fajitas de pollo ($19) and it was very salty. Among three people who also had fajitas, they only gave us one basket of corn tortillas with four tortillas inside. I don't know how they expect us to split that. Also ordered a side of arroz con queso ($7) and this was amazing. The flavor and texture was on point. Probably will come back for the view and try something else on their menu. Took my mom and a friend visiting from Tampa here for dinner. We had reservations for 8:30 which is perfect because that's sunset time now that it's summer in New York. The waitress was nice but I was a little annoyed how long guac and an appetizer took when it wasn't really busy. The main course came out less than five minutes later so we couldn't really enjoy the app. Nonetheless it was all delicious, we had a variety of seafood tacos and fajitas. A very nice place. Went on a Saturday night and was able to get seating upstairs to get a great view of the city. It was a rainy night so it was pretty cool out there. The food was really good and the staff was friendly. My only complaint was the price. A dinner for 2, with an appetizer, 2 margaritas and 2 beers came to almost $150. The area is definitely not my neck of the woods so I cannot frequent. However, I would recommend to others, especially for a date night. read more

I don't recommend you make a long trek out for Alma, but if you're a local and need a date spot or a place for a group, it could suffice. The ambiance is a little weird. I feel like it's trying to be cozy, but misses its mark. Service is great here, and the view of the city is cool, but the food is below decent and definitely overpriced. Red snapper special - lets start with the gpod. I'm glad I ordered this. Comes with onions, cherry tomatoes, and garlic cooked into it, but the rice underneath the fish was goopy, which I didn't like. The actual fish was pretty tasty though. Chicken enchiladas - decent portion of chicken, a little spicy from black pepper, and satisfying. Doesn't come with enough of the sides though. Speaking of the sides, they were kind of gross, particularly the cheese and guac. Guacamole - very obviously pre-made. Didn't enjoy. I make better guac, and they sell it for $12 here. No bueno. Haven't been here in a long time and they didn't disappoint. The menu is somewhat limited but still sufficient. Service was efficient and friendly not overbearing. I had the chicken, my guest the shrimp. Both dishes were delicious and very satisfying. The staff keeps the seating separated and masks on. ( which is so important these days). It's all about the roof at sunset. Breathtaking view! Lots of steep steps to get there, so if you are recovering from foot surgery, like me, take it Lento y fácil! Waited at the downstairs bar for 1/2 an hour for our table on a Sun eve. Not a bad place to wait. Trivial pursuit cards were on the bar so I could test my stupidity. They took our phone & called us when our table was ready. Nice! Meh pint size margaritas offered downstairs-a couple flavors of margaritas (frozen strawberry in a big machine & mango purée or traditional is what I recall). They were just OK. It looks like they have a much bigger selection and very different looking drinks offered upstairs-garnished & pretty. They may actually be a whole different establishment now that I think of it...working in harmony. I had what I believe was the only vegetarian meal, vegetable tacos. They were yummy with fried avocado. I'll be back for the atmosphere & I'll just have a beer downstairs if there's a wait. Saving fruity drinks for the good looking ones upstairs! FYI they are currently working on the roof area, so I would call ahead if that's why you are headed over (I was). I'm pretty particular when it comes to margaritas, that being said, I highly recommend the "Guava Roma" and the "Pepino." The guava is perfect, subtle, but flavorful. The cucumber although a little sweet for me it's one of those times you don't mind. Chips & Guac - I order this at every Mexican place. I will say one of the best ones I have had, really creamy and has a kick, also you get a decent amount. Also the chips are perfectly thin and crunchy. Plantains - Skip! Did not hit the spot. I would say they were very underdone. Short Rib Enchiladas - Amazing! a little junk foody but very satisfying and hearty. Steak Tacos - Dry, not much going, took it to go and added sour cream and cheese at home :/. Tres Leches - Really yummy and not too sweet, took this one to go as well and it carried really well. Would definitely head back for Tres Leches & Guac. Although, the food was pretty good I would say a bit overpriced, especially since the roof was under construction. Wonderful!! My husband and I were visiting NY and were looking for a restaurant with a view. The margaritas were great! And average price. But the quality of the margaritas was terrific! I had the margaritas of the day and my husband ordered the original. I ordered the veggie tacos, very very good! So much food for the price. My husband ordered the chili rellendo. He said it was very tasty. I also ordered a side of plantains and guacamole. The guacamole was amazing! And very creamy. Overall our experience was great! I loved the views from the roof deck. We had ceviche and I had a nonalcoholic mango mojito. They both were so good. The chips and salsa was on point. We ate these tasty treats while we waited for a corner table was available. When we got the table, we ordered fish tacos and three are given. These tacos were sooooo good. This restaurant is based on Oaxaca style food and it is very, very good. The service there, from the bartender to the wait staff were all so helpful and professional. The view is really what you pay for here. The menu is a bit pricey for what you actually get. I had the fish tacos which were pretty good but not so spectacular that I would pay that price again. I really liked this restaurant. There was not much people here when my friend and I came but it was a Wednesday night. Our orders were taken right away and our food came out pretty quickly as well. To start off they gave us a complimentary appetizer of chips and salsa. It was really good. The dip was spicy and chips were yummy and fresh. I wanted to get some to go! I ordered a guava margarita for my drink and it was okay. I just wish it was sweeter. For our entrées I had the fish tacos which came with 3 and my friend had the steak enchiladas. My fish tacos were okay, fish was under seasoned and I wish the tortilla shell was softer. It was too chewy so I wasn't a fan. However my friend's enchiladas were so good. The steak was seasoned very well and the sauce was yummy. Definitely wish I would have ordered this. My friend and I want to come back in the summer to sit outside during the day. If you steer out of the money areas, you can find some of the best authentic Mexican family owned restaurants, serving up for a third of the price. My bf got the "fajitas", and was disappointed bc it was not prepared in a stir fry fashion as traditional. It was more like a big sliced piece of London broil, and came with tortillas obvs. He said the meat wasn't very tender either. I'll try it once more, so I can grab a view, and try something from the top floor menu. I will make a reservation for sure. But then that's about it. Check it off the list. Been there done that. Paying for the view, which is better (and free) from BK Bridge park, across the street. Prob good for a nice rooftop cocktail, but uncertain if there's a bar up top. The views from the upper levels of the restaurant are unbelievable, however there are some major flaws. During dinner this evening a mouse was running around the 3rd floor dining room floor. It was immediately brought to the attention of the waiter, I believe his name was Jason, he graciously offered to move our table down stairs and told us that because it's an enclosed roof deck that they sometimes have problems with animals. That would be understandable if a bird was to get inside, not a mouse. We figured that since there was nothing else offered at the moment by the staff that perhaps when the meal ended a round of drinks or dessert would be offered by the staff. But when that was not the case I figured maybe there would be a portion of the bill discounted, that never happened either... Something as disgusting as a rodent running freely around the restaurant and all the staff was able to offer was a change of table is a poor reflection of not only the establishments ownership but of the hospitality industry as a whole. Due to the lack reasonable restaurant etiquette I cannot recommend this restaurant at all. read more

The best thing about Alma is the rooftop view of NYC. The day we went also had a really nice sunset so we were definitely really lucky. Although the view was a 5, I gave it a 4 (would give 3.7/5) because the food took extremely long to get to us, which was sort of understandable because we had a table of six, and because the food was decent, nothing really wow other than the pork ribs. The brazino butterflied fish was less flavorful and smaller than I expected (thought it was bigger from previous photos). Decent food, I think the main selling point here is definitely the view and environment. The staff were really nice. Would come here for a nice dinner with friends or family for special occasions (and if it's a nice sunset day). read more

I've always been a fan of Alma for many years. In the past they were only open during certain hours around brunch and dinner closing throughout lunch time which was extremely inconvenient. I was very relieved to see that Alma is now open all day so you can come here at any point of the day. The service was very friendly and I love sitting upstairs on the roof deck overlooking Manhattan. The view is spectacular! Alma has one of if not my favorite rooftop in Brooklyn. Onto the food: Guacamole with chips: the guac here is freshly made and extremely good. Short Rib Enchiladas: I really loved this dish. The short rib was delicious! This dish was bursting with flavors from the ranchero sauce and the Gouda cheese. Arroz con queso: this is one of my favorite dishes in the world. The only other place where I have had this was at Dos Camino's except they call it "Arroz con crema". If you like rice and cheese then your sure as hell going to LOVE this. This dish is amazing for sure!!! Overall Alma is definitely a great go to spot. The dinner menu is a bit pricey for Brooklyn but given the atmosphere it is still a place I come to periodically. read more

Following Emily C.'s review, the rooftop's view is f-ing gorgeous. There was a moment at dusk when I didn't know whether to keep my shades on or take them off. Oh, the views... but other yelpers have said it before. What they haven't said is that you can enjoy the view from the seemingly less desirable, but actually quite attractive lower level (Dia de los Muertos stained glass everywhere!!) I started in on the complimentary chips/salsa (average salsa, but still tasty) and soon I was throwing back giant margaritas with the best of 'em. By the time my cheese & portabella enchiladas with pepper sauce came out, I was feeling it. And these things were goooo-ooood. I ate 2.5 out of 3. Maybe that was just the tequila talking. Note, they don't put the usual rice/bean accompaniment with the enchiladas. I didn't mind at all as I'm prone to wasting those fillers. The tequila kept talking well past dinner, when I regretted my lapse into excess. I can't fault Alma that. I'll go back and will probably upgrade them a star. I just wish the food was a bit spicier. I was dining alone, they had a seat upstairs at the bar just in time for the sunset. Absolutely breathtaking views. I ordered a margarita (pic below)and chicken fajita.. both of which were excellent. I have no complaints about this place. I came here on Sunday evening with a friend of mine. We had a taste for Mexican food and we were in the area so we ended up here. We came around 6pm and we were immediately seated at the rooftop. It had a clear view of the Manhattan skyline from where we were seated. I had 2 appetizers, shrimp tacos and lamb. The food was so flavorful, cooked to perfection. We also had a pitcher of sangria that had me on the tipsy side. As soon as we were finished eating, there was a fireworks show close by, (Made it romantic) lol. The show lasted 20 minutes. I was told there is a fireworks show every Sunday at 7pm.
