A friend recommended this cafe right in downtown Rockford. The hot chai was yummy! Yay for alternative milks! I was surprised by how big the avocado toast was- one slice of toast under avocado spread with a fried egg on top plus cut fruit on the side - all in the box! So good. The servers were friendly, knowledgeable & fast. The restaurant can get loud depending on the customers, but we were able to have a normal conversation without being bothered. Our experience was so pleasant here! We enjoyed how nice everyone was and contributed to the warm-welcoming atmosphere. I enjoyed a latte with their "wired syrup" which was a yummy mixture. Exactly what I was going for. For food I scarfed down a turkey, cranberry, cream cheese type wrap and was impressed at the quality. The turkey was thinly cut or shaved and had a great texture to it. Ok the pumpkin brûlée blend they rolled out for fall is PHENOMENAL. I got it in my latte but a friend had it with her mocha and vanilla syrup and said it was the best coffee she'd had all week. Every single time I come to Wired Cafe, my coffee and food taste amazing and are exact to order, and the workers are always so friendly. I also love the feeling of community you get when you come inside - there is a huge chalkboard wall with lots of messages on them, flyers on the walls, and literature on the tables that highlight community resources and I think it's so lovely and important. This is definitely my "go to" place when I'm downtown Rockford. Their Chai Tea Latte with cinnamon.....so GOOD.....especially on a cold day. I have only ordered off their lunch menu and my most recent experience was on February 28th where I ordered the Big Apple Wrap. Delicious. Atmosphere and people inside are always friendly. You do get a sense of community and I am always happy to support a small business when I get consistently good service. This is definitely one of the gems in downtown Rockford. read more

This is my go to place for coffee because it is a close walk from work! I love the atmosphere, their coffee cups and pink lids! Their breakfast is also very tasty, I would recommend the breakfast burrito. They also have lunch options and specials that they post daily on their Instagram. Stopped by the Bubble Hive & they highly recommended Wired Cafe for a coffee & lunch. We went ahead and tried it & omgggg delicious! Mother/daughter owned & full of homemade recipes. Tastes like you went to your moms house for a bite to eat. Every thing is full of love. We ordered a medium toasted marshmallow & bubble hive lattes with CBD, banana walnut bread, the mark sandwich I think it was called with Turkey, bacon, & Mayo... and a bowl of homemade chicken noodle soup. I had a mocha latte with coconut and a chocolate peanut butter cookie. What I like about Wired is the simplicity, the newspaper clippings and art on the walls, and the friendly service. The mocha was delicious (take it from someone who tries mochas everywhere) and the cookie was more than big enough for me. I would recommend this place for anyone in or passing through Rockford. This review is long overdue. I lived in Rockford for almost 6 years and drank more coffee from Wired than all the other coffee shops combined. While the coffee itself is indeed great, the people who work here make this coffee shop outstanding. Crystal, Shanna, and Maggie are incredibly down to earth and get to know their customers. The atmosphere of the shop is great as well. I did parts of my work from Wired most Monday mornings for almost 3 years! Wired feels like the type of coffee shop that is in OTHER cities, not Rockford. I frequent this coffee shop, since I learned of it, because of a few different reasons. 1. It is quiet and the temperature is appropriate. I can work on projects there and not be distracted, and I am never too warm or cold. 2. The staff and owner own their barista skills. The owner went to barista school before opening up, I have since learned, and her and her staff will even go so far as to brew another shot of espresso if the first one didn't "pull" the way they wanted it to... I am speaking from experience. 3. They treat all their customers like family. Somehow they already know my name and EVERY OTHER CUSTOMERS name who walks through the door, how pleasant. They also remember that I like soy milk, and when they changed their soy milk recently, went out of their way to make sure that I liked the change. 4. The food is amazing. They have some combinations that are different, like my favorite, the peanut butter wrap. Organic peanut butter, honey, and sunflower seeds wrapped up and served with veggies or string cheese. They also have a list, right out in the open, with all the organic foods they serve. I like that they do this because then its not like they are fooling you and saying "all food here is organic." Instead they give you the chance to see what is actually organic in the ingredients they are using. 5. Their prices are unbeatable, at least for the drinks I get. Less expensive than anywhere else in town, currently. These are all the reasons I love Wired. So refreshing after begging the universe for years for a local coffee shop closer to me. read more

Wired is a new concept in an old part of downtown Rockford. The best part of this cafe is the chairs that sit by the window looking out over East State Street. They offer free Wifi and a friendly atmosphere. I simply had some Two Leaves and a Bud tea (www.twoleavesandabud.com) which is a favorite of mine. They provide the honey and plenty of lemon. The staff was super nice and regularly checked in with me to see if I needed anything. For Rockford, this is a nice addition where few exist. read more

The customer service is amazing. Very quickly, the staff learns your name and knows what you like. Best of all, they focus on supporting local businesses, and buy as much of their product locally as they can. Shanna Hill does their baking, and her creative offerings are delicious. She makes a delicious strawberry coffee cake. She made me a whole one that I used as birthday cake in the summer. It was a great alternative to the traditional cake, and also very summery. They have some delicious sandwiches. Their warm ones are great. I usually don't like sandwich bread to be ciabatta, but the ones they use are actually quite tasty. My favorite sandwich is sometimes a special on Thursdays - a sauteed veggie sandwich on pretzel bun with garlic mayo and provolone. It's heaven in a sandwich. read more

I went to Wired after it first opened mostly for a coffee drink, wifi access, and because I'm always curious about local restaurants and businesses downtown. So many people in Rockford miss out on the very best food Rockford has to offer when they rule the area out because "downtown is too dangerous" or other such inane reasons. The coffee drinks are amazing, wifi access is free but more secure due to the way they run it, and my curiosity paid off BIG time when I discovered this cozy gem. The woman who runs Wired and her daughter have an amazing memory for customer names and usual orders. Not too mention I've never seen either in a bad mood (at least visible to me). They really make an awesome place perfect. I don't get out much anymore and I cannot drink coffee either, but Wired is still the first (possibly only) place I choose on rare occasions I get out or convince someone to pick up something for me. My current restrictions are no problem because in a very unusual turn for me, I LOVE everything they serve to eat and drink. I also love that the portion sizes are normal, not unhealthy American portions. My all-time favorites are the Old English (is it called Buster Bub now?), Breakfast Sandwich (with hollandaise sauce you can taste but it is NOT messy!!?), and Old Fashioned Oatmeal on the breakfast side. For lunch, the Big Apple Wrap is a good alternative version of the Old English, the BLT is AMAZING, and my favorite that may now not be there is the Spicy Beef-n-Cheddar. The sides for each are awesome and let me get my fix of the cucumber salad I first had and loved at the short-lived Cru, which was a great little cafe down the street owned by the Brio (Abreo now?) people. I've replaced my coffee drinks with any of their various fruit smoothies (you can even ask for a mix of flavors) and hot chocolate sometimes. Their desserts look delicious, but I'm usually full by that point. They also have wonderful daily specials, and a different soup and quiche of the day (oh! I forgot how much I love their quiche!). Delicious does not rule out healthy at Wired. The peanut butter is natural, but naysayers won't be able to tell the difference. I was a naysayer. I just cannot say too much in favor of Wired or this review would just keep going and going and going. I must stop now due to hunger pains as I wait for lunch from Wired coming via my mother (very, very soon, I hope!). [EDIT: They said they can still make the Spicy Beef and Cheddar even though it's not on the menu! Although, it seems the cucumber salad is no more. I LOVE them! Thank you for making the sandwich!] Do yourself a favor. If you only eat on the east side and never cross the imaginary border into the downtown area, break the rules and eat at Wired. Go get handmade chocolate at Daniels down the street. Make reservations for an out of this world special menu event at Abreo or get the best Asian food in town at Bamboo. All within a few blocks of each other. After you realize how amazing our local food spots are downtown, we'll venture across the bridge and investigate other unique spots with food you can only find downtown. read more

[ Visited in August, 2010 ] Well here's a shining star in the sea of boring strip-mall coffee joints. Found on State Street (perhaps soon to be a great street?) in Rockford, Illinois, Wired Cafe is a great, bright place to hang out. The iced tea was nice and strong (they serve 24-ounce drinks for a large) and the service came with a smile. The pastries looked fantastic, and I'll certainly have one the next time I visit. Oh, thanks for having clean restrooms, as well. If everything in Rockford was a nice and the Wired Cafe, we'd all live there. read more

I've only heard good things about this place so I came in with pretty high expectations. I ordered the Best Sandwich Ever and it definitely lived up to its name. The bread was warm, nicely crisp on top, and had just the right amount of juiciness from the tender hot beef. The provolone, grilled onions, peppers, and garlic mayo provided a delicious pocket of comfort. I was feeling bold so I also had their snickerdoodle cookie and an apricot smoothie. The cookie was light and slightly chewier around the outside, which is just the way I like it. The smoothie was refreshing and flavorful. In the time I was there, Crystal knew most of their customers' orders before they even said anything.
