Saw a posting about this spot being good. Wanted to support local business. The location is dark and dreary. Looks more like storage than a restaurant. The man behind the counter knows little to no English. No menu with prices available so I used pictures to order. We got a gyro and chicken plate with 3 drinks, water, and 2 juice. Overall the food is bad. No taste and the chicken was burned dry. Gyro was okay but the lamb was re-heated, not fresh. Worst of all, overpriced for the service and bad quality. We got the tourist trap prices. Why he didn't have a menu with prices listed. Avoid as all possible costs. Go next door to Samakmak. Not recommended, run dont walk away from this spot. read more

So glad I stumbled onto this place on Yelp. I have been living 3 blocks away from here for over 10 years and have ALWAYS judged this place by its appearance - a very small, limited market, therefore, I've never stepped in here once. All of that changed when I saw they had decent reviews. I went based off of everyone's recommendation and had the grilled chicken sandwich. Since I was super hungry, I ordered a chicken gyro too...BEST DECISION EVEEERRRR! Unfortunately, they didn't have a menu, to take away or on the wall so other available menu items (and prices) are of mystery, which is a bit of a turn-off. Everything tasted great but as one Yelper mentioned, they do take a while. Even though I called ahead, it still took a minute because there was only one man who takes the orders and prepares the food, all while having to watch the front of his store and tend to additional customers. Still, the food was worth the wait. Everything had a nice taste and flavor, just note, if you request and sauces on the side, double check your bag before leaving because he forgot to include my sauces. Also, the chicken sandwich isn't your typical chicken sandwich on a roll or hero, its actually on a pita, still, that definitely did not hinder the taste (only the portion and it's ability to fill you up depending on how hungry you are =D ). I have added a picture of the grilled chicken sandwich for viewing so you have an idea of what your buying. The gyro was really good too! I actually preferred it to the grilled chicken sandwich. It seems more juicy and had more flavor, probably because of the bread that they use for it - it's not your typical thick pita that some gyros come on and it's softer than the pocket pita bread used for the chicken sandwich. When I came here, I ordered 5 sandwiches: - 3 grilled chickens - 2 chicken gyro's - 3 cans of soda This all came out to $30.50. I did ask the price of the sandwiches, although I should have. But I figured each sandwich must have cost somewhere between $5.00 - $6.00 and the soda may have been somewhere between $0.50 - $1.00. Also keep in mind that it's very difficult to find parking, so definitely try to bring someone with you who can wait in the car. West Side Ave is a very busy street, especially near this restaurant. The food at AlNOOR is soooo tasty. And they have a great selection to choose from every time we go to eat there. If I'm not getting a gyro with the zesty hot sauce, ill get a whole chicken and just enjoy that BBQ taste with some fries and a desert if i have any room. The middle eastern sweets are amazing as well. The owner and his wife are very sweet people as well. Consistency, great tasting food that not anyone can make as PERFECT as they can. Hands down, Best chicken and gyro sandwiches in the Jersey CIty/Hoboken area. Chicken gyro is sooo good, sooo tasty and full of chicken. The original gyro is amazing as well. BBQ chicken is the best I ever had. Then they also cook various Egyptian dishes daily: macaroni béchamel: bechamel is a white creamy sauce, they mix in pasta and ground beef... sooooo good Mulukhiyah w chicken Lamb chops by order..... amazing Stuffed grape leaves, stuffed peppers and egg plants called mashie, filled w rice, ground beef and whatever else makes it sooo tasty... also other traditional egyptian meals.. sides are good as well.. from pickled veggies, soups, baladi salads.. Egyptian food is tasty w many healthy choices as well. Falafel is always on POINT. They also carry a beverage called Brazilia. Must try. Cant find it anywhere else. I had heard a lot about this place and finally had the chance to check it out a few weeks ago. I got the famed chicken and a small rice. The guy (whom I presume also may be the owner) was super friendly and gave me a card, advising me to call in advance next time to save some time. When I got home, I found the chicken a little on the dry side, although the skin was still wonderfully charred. The rice was like a much better version of Rice-a-Roni, like a pilaf with little bits of fideo (those skinny noodles; not sure what the Middle Eastern term for it is). However, it benefited from a few grinds of salt and pepper. I had expected awe-inspiring chicken and was admittedly disappointed. Despite this, I knew I had to give it another try, because of the rave reviews. I figured maybe I came on an off day. And so, I returned about a week ago. I had a craving for shawarma but, once inside, found myself trying the grilled chicken again, as well as falafel. The same guy was working and was just as hospitable as before. This time, I got extra hot sauce and white sauce on the falafel, as well as hot sauce on the chicken. Again, everything was cooked to order but didn't set me back more than five minutes or so. This time, the skin had the same wonderful char, but the meat was super juicy and flavorful. The hot sauce reminded me of Carolina-style barbecue sauce, thin and vinegary, but with a touch more heat. The falafel tasted fresh and the accompanying sauces were perfect without overwhelming the taste of the falafel or the salad. *This* was what I'd been awaiting and was happy I gave Alnooor another chance. Based on my second visit, I will definitely come back, especially to try that shawarma. Parking is usually pretty easy as long as you aren't being lazy and demand a spot right in front of the restaurant (there aren't any). Also ignore the looks of the neighborhood because it's really not that bad. And one more FYI, most of the times I've seen online are wrong: the guy told me he opens every day at 2 pm. read more

This is one of the very few places I trust ordering from in jersey city. Their food is just as good and as trustworthy as the one you make at home. The owner and his wife/staff will do their best to accommodate any special requests for ur food. Whether it is just a sandwich or a catering order for any event you may have. I have tried most if not all of his meanu. I wish they had delivery service then I would have be ordering from daily. Best BBQ chicken in town, never experienced dry ones as some here said. Alnoor is the real deal. I eat Alnoor weekly. And for me, it's all about the grilled chicken! I have no doubt the other options are very good. I've had their falafel before and enjoyed it. But I keep coming back to that chicken. I live just up the street, and the smell of BBQ that pours out of Alnoor and fills the air is positively captivating. I used to get the chicken gryo, but we've started just getting the whole chicken (with extra hot sauce), which provides multiple meals worth of food for just $11. They've recently expanded to a larger space, and they stock an impressive collection of middle-eastern and Mediterranean groceries. It looks like they are selling more halal meats as well. They have more tables now, but this is mostly a take-out place. You can call ahead to save time. I've heard they are planning to add delivery soon. Rico (the owner) and his wife are wonderfully nice people, and clearly take great pride in their work. I was very happy to see them move into this nice, new space. They deserve the success. Al Noor has THE best REAL BBQ chicken...EVER!!!! The owner has been making this chicken since the 80's...he does it the same every time which is perfect. You can get it regular which is a lemon, garlic mop or BBQ, whole for $10 or 1/2 for $5.50. He makes it fresh to order every time. And you will never be disappointed. I seriously cannot stress how great it is. I learned about this place visiting family and every time I came I requested the chicken. Now i live here and i get chicken from here all the time. This place is no frills, very casual and normally i just call ahead and pick it up but they do have a few tables...almost everyone just picks it up tho. If you pick up just park at the gas station across the street and walk over. i have for years. If you go you should really try the dessert his wife makes. It's called khanefe, I believe. It is on top of the case, near the register and looks like very thin noodles on top. It's these "noodles" on top and bottom filed with some sort of middle eastern cheese...similar to a cross between ricotta and cream cheese, then baked and while still warm drenched in orange blossom syrup. AMAZING!!!! They also have excellent gyros, and other things...I always get the chicken and the dessert. read more

Alnoor has the BEST BBQ CHICKEN I have ever had. It's fresh, wonderfully seasoned, and tender. Don't look for barbeque sauce, it's not there, but you don't need it. Quality is always consistently delish! The falfal are also tasty. There are gyros, but I've never tried them. There are always people there. Most people carry out. One Saturday night around midnight when I was driving by Alnoor and couldn't believe the steady stream of people in and out getting food. Décor-wise, I hate to say it's a hole in the wall, but it is. Half the store is a small grocery, the other half is a huge grill. There are 2 tables and 4 chairs. But you're not going for the décor, you're going for the food - again and again. read more

i eat here fairly often, and not just because it's convenient. the chicken sandwiches especially are so good. we have one relative and one friend who we have gotten stuff for here, and now they politely insist that every time they come to visit we eat here. chicken and gyro sandwiches and platters are all amazing. the owner rico is a really nice guy, too. i'm glad to give him my business and i'm doubly glad because the food is top notch. after writing this review i think i'm gonna have to go eat there tonight. read more

I really wanted to love this spot as the owner couldn't have been more nice and pleasant, unfortunately the BBQ chicken that everyone raves about was so dry it could have been beef jerky. It did have a great taste though. I tried their falafel sandwich another time and I've only had a falafels one other time so I don't have a lot to compare it to but had that been my first time trying them I wouldn't have been blown away. I'm not motivated to try them again, but since they're so close it's possible I will. read more

Not sure how this placed scored so well but the food is absolutely disgusting! Person making food did not look like he washed hands in between tasks and there was some man standing in the kitchen coughing while my food was being prepared. I tried to eat my food , it was really late and I was starving but, ended up throwing the gyro in the trash. This was the worst gyro I've ever tasted. Just went here today and got a 1/2 bbq chicken because of all the praise that it's received. I didn't think the chicken was as jaw-dropping as everyone else made it to be. A few of my pieces of chicken were actually pretty dry. I'll definitely be back to try their gyros since they looked really good when i was there. read more

Over the past two years, this place has gone down hill. We used to eat here regularly ordering a whole chicken or a chicken gyro, but stopped visiting after we had a couple bad experiences. We've gotten raw chicken a couple of times and don't want to take the risk anymore. read more
