For a myriad of reasons the great city of Jersey City is often times my entry point into New Jersey, and as such I often like to start off my Jersey odyssey with a customary breakfast of the states official delicacy of Taylor ham on a roll with egg and cheese. This humble deli serves what at this point I have determined to be the best in the city, and at a wonderfully low price point (around $5 on my last visit a few months back. Thin, well done to the point of crispy layers of pork roll interspersed with hard scrambled eggs and layers of American cheese between a kaiser roll in a manner quite similar to your favorite local bodegas bec back across the Hudson befitting the cities deep ties with NYC. The sandwich is compact tight and just the perfect amount of filling, leaving you satisfied and satiated enough to start your day but not so stuffed that you're already ready for a nap. Grab one to go and eat it on the run or, should you have some time to kill and the weather is pleasant take the short walk though the lovely brownstone blessed neighborhood to the nearby leafy and serene Van Vorst park and soak up the atmosphere while enjoying the salty goodness. read more

I was being incredibly indecisive (it was clearly my first time there), and the staff was super friendly and welcoming. I ended up getting a hero with Salsalito turkey which I highly recommend; I'd never seen that type of Boar's Head before. Damn, Best darn Turkey Bacon Sandwiches i have had in a very long time. We stopped here last summer, and i was impressed with the sandwiches here. But daaah, The East Coast have better deli sandwiches than the West Coast. I am sorry to say, Jersey does it better than Cali. But i didnt come on here for a pissing contest. An upscale bodega that offers a great breakfast. These wonderful ladies are cracking eggs faster then an egg fight at the Golden Corral. And they are so friendly there. I have been coming here for years and I and upset I haven't written a review until now. Dixon deli has been a staple in the downtown Jersey City area for years way before the drastic change to this city. They serve breakfast and lunch and make A great breakfast sandwich or platter. I usually order the turkey bacon with eggs spinach and pepper jack cheese. With a side of avocado. It's a great start to the day but also a great lunch too. They are generous with their food and also with their prices. It's not very big and there are a few seats to sit by the window. But the food is good when you walk in you order you food in the back by the counter. There are usually people waiting to order. But the food comes our pretty quick. Probably the worst breakfast I've had . Ordered eggs with bacon home fries , hash brown and toast. The eggs were overcooked, bacon was shredded to small pieces , the hashbrown was burnt on outside and oily on inside. They forgot the potatoes and the toast. Definitely will not be going back. read more

This is exactly what a deli should be. No frills, nothing fancy, cash only. If you don't want to hangout in the store, maybe call ahead with an order. They had run out of round rolls by the time I arrived but the long ones they used instead were crusty on the outside soft in the middle. When in doubt and unsure of what to eat during lunch time, I end up at Dixon Deli. Their sandwiches are delicious and super cheap! One thing I really like is that they are very customizable and you can tell them exactly what you want on your sandwich of choice. In terms of customer service, they are great! They are always nice and respectful to the customers and very upbeat! They definitely treat you like they've known you for years. This is my new go-to spot in downtown JC for breakfast sandwiches. Called ahead for a pork roll, egg and cheese on a roll and it was ready for pick-up in minutes. Tell-tale grease stains on the paper wrapping revealed a delicious 2 egg sandwich on a fresh roll, soft in the middle but crusty exterior. Nice balance between pork roll, egg, cheese and ketchup (that's right, I like ketchup on my eggs!) Did I mention the sandwich was only $4?!? Quite a bargain for downtown. Bravo! read more

Moved around the corner from Dixon Deli about six months ago and discovered them to be a super pleasant surprise. Whenever I need a quick and super cheap bite to eat I'll walk down the block and order their beyond burger which is delicious. I want to emphasize again how cheap they are! Everything. They are cash only but I literally go out of my way now to keep cash on me for the sole reason of using it at Dixon deli if I'm in the mood. My boyfriend and I love Dixon deli. The ladies that work there are amazing and very nice. The actual store section here is not super extensive. That being said, if you need a snack, yummy breakfast, quick lunch, or some sweet treats- this is your place. The Taylor ham, egg, cheese on a roll is great. Such a good alternative for when the line at wonderbagel is just too long, or you just don't feel like walking that extra block. For lunch, the cheesesteak, or grilled chicken sandwich are amazing. I picked up a honey turkey w/ american cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo, hot sauce, salt, pepper on a roll and a BLT on a roll for my fiancee to eat in Van Vorst park. The turkey: it looks like they only use slice-to-order Boar's Head meat here which is a huge plus for any cold-cut sandwich. The meat was plentiful, the bread was somewhat fresh and the tomato had good flavor. this sandwich was a solid for $5. The BLT: mounds of thick bacon covered with lettuce and tomato - was happy to see they didn't skimp out on the meat. Price was fair at $3.50. This place is a great spot for getting a legit deli sandwich - it's very close to the stuff you'll find in NYC at a lower price point. Delicious Italian sandwiches, steak fries and breakfast sandwiches. They are flexible with what you want/don't want on it. Seems like they are improving their grocery selection too. Fresh meats/cheeses/veggies for the sandwiches and fresh milk etc for your staples. The negatives- super large selection of cat food and water taking up grocery space which could be expanded to have so much more. They also keep fragrant cleaning supplies next to food which makes some of the food stinky. Maybe separate those somehow?? Hamburger was so so. Didn't taste super fresh. Also, they won't place a trash can outside since one employee said neighbors toss dog poop into it and other household trash so people massively LITTER outside the shop. Dixon Deli is a little corner deli with amazing pricing for fresh sandwiches! The turkey sub at 4.50 was an incredible deal until lettuce, tomato, onion is an extra charge but even still that totals out to less than $6.50, I've just never been charged like that before. The turkey is sliced to order and all ingredients are fresh. They take care to make your sandwich the way you want it!
