I've been going around the island for years and how can I miss Aloha Shrimp? I've read great reviews, even an ROTD, so I bookmarked it. The reason I keep missing Aloha Shrimp, is because my family prefers the other business, the one with that starts with the letter "R". Our recent ventures around the island lead me here, will it is because I didn't have luck with placing my phone order with our go to shrimp place so I mentioned to my family that we should try Aloha Shrimp. Aloha Shrimp was not hard to find, I don't look to my right, every time we go around the island, this is the reason I keep missing it. Located in Hau'ula, closer to the Polynesian Cultural Center. Look for a nice blue truck on your right, its a great spot for this shrimp truck, lots of parking and picnic tables with views of the mountains and the ocean across the street. We had no problem with getting a parking space and picnic table, and bonus, no wait!! (we arrived after 3 pm) We were greeted by Calvin, the owner's son, such a hard worker, he shared with us what the most popular orders are which was #1 & #5. We purchased #1 & #5, which is spicy garlic lemon shrimp and the garlic shrimp. We bought 2 plates just to test it out, just in case it didn't pass the test. The shrimp plates are 13.99, cash only. The verdict, We all enjoyed both shrimps! Compared the the other shrimp truck Giovanni, it is way better. The shrimps are jumbo, not oily, soggy, with the right amount of sauce, they were delicious. I really like the spicy garlic lemon shrimp, I could taste the lemon very lightly along with the spicy and garlic sauce. What I didn't like about Aloha Shrimp is that @13.99, it is kinda pricey and for such a small portion. For a plate, you get about 6 shrimps, 2 scoops rice, salad and pineapple. For the price and portion I would stick to my usual. Oh, did you know Aloha Shrimp made Yelp's 100 in 2017, where have I been? I would have checked this business our sooner. All in all, Aloha Shrimp passed, when the other half and my son voted. I will be back, need to bring my college daughter to give it a try. Ok so recently I headed up North and couldn't decide what to get for lunch with my family, after driving and figuring out where to eat my lady pointed out this truck and said she's been here with her friends before and we should try it out. I had the Chicken Plate which was delicious it's honestly so simple but really flavorful My kids and girlfriend had the garlic shrimp which they absolutely pounded my son had a couple pieces left and my girl took care of them super fast, you know it's good when she goes all out on the shrimp. I would even go out on a limb and say this place is equally as good as all those shrimp trucks you hear about on the north shore so.. if you find the lines are to long there keep driving and be on the look out for this little blue truck. We ordered the chicken katsu, coconut shrimp and the spicy lemon garlic shrimp. We got an extra plate so we would have a snack for later but very little of this made it home with us. The coconut shrimp was some of the best I ever had. The coconut was crunchy yet soft and sweet and really had a great coconut flavor. It didn't taste fried at all, it was really amazing. The spicy garlic sauce was sooooo tasty, next time I would order a side of that for dipping and just for my rice it was so so yummy. My husband was very skeptical of this place and didn't want to order his own plate. Granted, we were the only customers when we arrived around 11:30am. Stumbled upon this cute little shrimp truck after kayaking and snorkeling around Chinaman's hat. The couple running the business were super sweet. This place is cash only, there may be an ATM in the store nearby. We got the coconut shrimp which is the best coconut shrimp I've ever had in my life. Then there's #7 Crispy Chicken and #8 Pork Chops, and finally, #9 Coconut Shrimp. My +1 ordered the Garlic Shrimp and that sauce looked incredible. I chose the Spicy Garlic Shrimp. Both were served in a take-out container with two scoops of white rice, green salad with ranch dressing, and a pineapple wedge for $13.99 each. The shrimp was so good - plump and juicy! The spicy garlic sauce was mild and dee-licious! There was enough to cover the shrimp and a little extra for the rice. Although the shell was still attached to the shrimp, it was fairly easy to peel since it was split and deveined. Thank you, Aloha Shrimp! That saved so much time, was less mess 'n fuss, and I thoroughly enjoyed my plate in the comfort of roosters crowing, the gorgeous Hawaii weather, and a tarp-covered picnic table area. Personally, I really loved the spicy lemon shrimp and thought that this place is even better than Giovanni's (taste wise). Not much to say about service since it's a food truck but I will say that there isn't really a place to wash your hands nearby so if you're planning on stopping here, I'd recommend bringing some hand wipes or hand sanitizer. I was looking forward to this from all the 5 star reviews! We got the spicy garlic lemon shrimp and a sweet tea. The shrimp was good but nothing special, I'm shocked they have 5 stars compared to other shrimp trucks on the island because it's mediocre - maybe it's the service, the owner was kind. The sweet corn on the side was ok.. tasted like it came out the can, bland and watery. Surprisingly the pineapple was not good either, it was very tart and barely sweet. This is the first time I've had a pineapple slice in Hawai'i that wasn't good. The sweet tea was good! It comes with lemon slices and was by far my favorite thing in my order. I'd recommend big wave shrimp truck in Haleiwa instead if you want an unforgettable shrimp plate. Overall not bad, but definitely not worth a drive read more
